Another cool thing about this episode - having an actual teenager play teenage Ahsoka really drives home just how young she was during the Clone Wars. She really was a child soldier.
Always, ALWAYS comes back to RLM's dumb take that Rogue One was for people who can't admit they like a kid's fantasy story, that it is too dark for the plucky happy-go-lucky heroic adventure. Like... Ignore the fascist executions of family, the planetary genocide, the trauma of realizing your dad is Space Himmler after he cuts off your hand in a duel etc... Oh yeah, now here's some slavery, a speciest massacre after the trauma of your dying mother, an army of clones, *_literally ambushing and murdering 6-year-olds that you helped mentor,_* and having your "plucky side-kick" be a child soldier. Yeah man, but Rogue One and Andor are bleak and dark tho... 🤦♂️
7:02 ahhh Hayden was perfect since the beginning
Ariana Greenblatt played young Ahsoka. She was also young Gamora in Infinity War, and most recently, the main young girl in the Barbie movie. I’m pretty critical of child actors, but cast her in everything. She’s great.
You know who else had child soldiers: the Nazi. This further drives how fallen the jedi really were
@@CVargas202 oof
The lines they say right before they clash “I won’t fight you” “I’ve heard that before” direct call back to his confrontation w Luke ; so much symmetry and in the end both are reborn as true Jedi
I always assumed it was call back to their fight in Rebels in the temple.
@@DirtyBeasts in Rebels she said "I won't leave you, not this time"
This was a callback to his fight with Luke in ROTJ
I cauggt that too.
too many folks misunderstood that reference and it annoyed me every time I see it. OF COURSE IT'S A ROTJ CALLBACK!!
This also means it actually WAS anakin there and not a conjuration from her memory
How the F did Jay managed to NOT spoil himself about Jacen, omg I'm laughing so hard XD
Same 😂
Anybody gonna tell him?
@@aldenwilkinsI hope they don't so he get the surprise at the end of Rebels
Captain Obvious here, but he was pretending.
In all frankness I think they should watch Rebels until the end before Ahsoka, just my 5cents
Adam's face had me STITCHES!!!
im sorry, i love the fact that Jay COMPLETELY missed that Jacen is Kanan's son. That is hilarious!
until he reads the comments
@@vinsanity40k Or watches the video!
Sssh! Spoilers!
I didnt even watch all of rebels and i knew it. Its not hard to see
Me too 😂😂 rebels remains unspoiled for now😄
The actress that plays young Ahsoka was also young Gamora and played the daughter in Barbie! She's making a name for herself.
Gah! You stole my line! I *knew* I should have trademarked it!
If I had a nickel for every time that actress played a younger version of an alien woman with no eyebrows, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
I’m so glad Hayden Christensen is finally getting the recognition he deserves as Anakin🥲
True but I can't get it out of my mind how bad he "hates sand".
He has 20 more years of acting experience and maturity under his belt. So of course he's improved. He was absolutely awful in the prequel movies, though.
@@Tessmage_Tessera It's the Twilight effect. The actor is good, but the dialogue and direction is shit. Even Lucas himself has said he sucks at dialogue and instructing actors in what he wants them to go for in dialogue-heavy scenes. Filoni literally had Christensen helping him direct during these WBW scenes, this isn't just him being told what to do, he's actually one of the people who made choices and decisions that went into this.
@@Knight-Bishop I'm sorry, but that excuse is very easy to shoot down. All of the other actors in the same movie had the SAME director and the SAME writers. So why didn't all of the other actors suck, too? Lucas also wrote and directed the very first Star Wars movie and nobody sucked in that film. Nope, we can't just conveniently pass this off on Lucas. Hayden was just a kid back then and he simply didn't have the chops yet.
@@Tessmage_Tessera ...i'M sOrRy, but that excuse is very easy to shoot down. Have you seriously only ever watched the Original Trilogy with rose-tinted nostalgia goggles? Half the dialogue and acting is wooden and clunky, almost just objectively so in every case. I love it to death but you're playing favorites with a series that has been that way from the jump. 🤣
"I won't fight you"
"I've heard that before"
From his own son Luke 😭
You're right Jay, it is SOOOO good to see Hayden get to act out some good dialogue and writing, and with actual good directing! This is maybe my favorite episode of any Star Wars show.
lol, as if Ahsoka had good writing and directing 🤣
That whole place between worlds thing was super shallow and ONLY geared towards cheesy fan service. What was even the point of it all? For Ahsoka to decide that living is preferable to being dead? Woah, so deep.
I was so bored by this lifeless episode about nothing.
@@memento81So you see someone enjoying something they like and you're just like "nah, lemme shit all over that".
Why do you want people to be as miserable as you?
@@DanReyesB are other opinions not acceptable to you or do you just feel entitled to a fully enclosed echo chamber?
@@memento81: As if Ahsoka had good writing.
Also memento81: Are other opinions not acceptable to you?
The hypocrisy.
This was definitely my favorite episode and I was excited to see Hayden Christensen back and this time directly after the events of Return of the Jedi.
This episode really showed just how young ahsoka was, like that baby beat Maul!
It’s crazy when you realize just how young she was when she fought Maul.
It also makes Maul’s defeat all the more hilarious.
17 three years younger then Anakin was when he got owned by Doku. This is the result of her being a War Padawan and his intense Training to survive that War. Training Matters. Anakin never held back in her training and she excelled showing how much Obi-Wan held Anakin back and why he was so frustrated.
Anakin was giving Ahsoka AP college courses to make sure she was well prepared whilst Obi-Wan acted like the Sub who just showed videos in class whilst looking for new jobs to advance HIS career "He's the chosen one, he'll be fine." No wonder Palpatine had plenty of time to influence him.
@@SamaritanPrime Not hating on Ahsoka's skill, she was undoubtedly a great duelist, but remember Maul was also trying to convince her to join him and not outright kill her.
“What was first just a dream has become a frightening reality for those who may oppose us.”
Oh they are not ready for that. Yes I know they’ve seen it already.
Adam and Jay turning into Beavis and Butthead laughing maniacally is peak Preview’d. I laughed soooo hard.
Oh it’s so in character for them and I love it so much.
Dave Filoni, Heir Apparent to Star Wars: (spends an entire episode doing rad gangster stuff)
Our boys: (incoherent babbling out of awe)
I love how it is Brendan Wayne, one of the Mando's, who is the one who pulled Ahsoka out of the water
The fact that Jay “missed it” and Adam was just waiting 😂….less singing and more paying attention Jay!
I have a sneaky suspiscion Jay has heard that last sentence more than once in his life.
Sam Riegel (Critical Role), his wife Quyen Tran was the cinematographer. She deserves an award for sure!
No Shit? Cool!
@@shanecovey8680 He also portrayed one of Thrawn's stormtroopers
Neat!
Not sure which was funnier, Jay missing it (or pretending to miss it) or Adam mouthing to us "He missed it!" But your reactions overall were stellar, gentlemen. Perfect mix of emotion and hilarity, as always. Bravo. ❤️
Watching this show with not finishing Rebels is riskyyyyyy
It's even MORE risky when you haven't finished rebels but watch Erik Voss' breakdowns of the Ahsoka trailer and episodes anyway, like I do. Still enjoyed the show, however.
Never tell Adam the odds!
The episode reaction we've all been waiting for. Preparing for the feels.
This whole second half of the season is just absolutely amazing, still get so giddy watching this episode
Yeah, this episode was the turning point for me. Everything afterward was so much closer to what I'd hoped the show would be all along.
"Ive heard that before" was a direct reference to Luke's "I will not fight you, father". It was Filoni's way of letting the audience know that this was indeed the spirit of a post Return of the Jedi, post Vader redeemed Anakin.
Also think Hayden added that line or suggested it. There's a cool behind the scenes featurette of it 😊
“I choose to live,” has me in tears every time.
4:10 It seems a lot of people didn’t pick up on the meaning behind this line. One of the many little things that helps mentally connect Anakin to Darth Vader, and shows like this to the original trilogy
True - some are connecting it to Obi-Wan, but you and I both know it's connected to Return of the Jedi:
"Obi-Wan has taught you well."
"I will not fight you, Father."
"You are unwise to lower your defenses."
Exactly
The line was also ad-libbed by Hayden 👏
Everyone who's seen rotj knew who he was referring to.
"I've heard that before" hits so different, with Luke saying the same thing to his dad in ROTJ.
It is criminal how good the cinematography was in this episode.
I love that fans realize that Hayden was just doing what he was directed to do by George Lucas in the prequels and that he’s not to blame for the clunky dialogue and wooden demeanor. And I’m so happy that fans are finally embracing him and are genuinely so excited to see him in both Obi Wan and Ahsoka, he deserves all the accolades for these appearances.
If memory serves the demeanor of grown Anakin was intentional too. So it wouldn't be such a jarring shift from Anakin to suit Vader. I just don't know whose idea it was. In theory it's great, but there could've been a better through-line.
This episode was fantastic and did a great job of showing how scary Vader would have been without the hindrance and restriction of the suit. Just the way Anakin tilts his head and says "Incorrect." Just sooo menacing with just a single word. So good!
I can’t believe Jay missed that big detail 😂 I was really looking forward to his reaction ngl
He hasn't seen all of Rebels
@@alexkramerblogs That's the point, he managed to not get spoiled the ond of Rebels 🤣
@@alexkramerblogs I know, I just found it hilarious that he missed what was being said and didn’t connect the dots 😂
AHHHHH I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR YOUR REACTION TO THIS!!!!!!!
The scenes with Anakin were absolutely PERFECT! When he ignited that red lightsaber I literally said “oh shit.” Some of those lightsaber hits just reminded you have how powerful he was. Those flashes between him and Vader gave me chills. With that armor he looked EXACTLY like Clone Wars Anakin. Hayden was on a whole other level of epicness and I loved every single second of it.
Something else that I want to make sure is highlighted is the music. It was perfect and fit those scenes very, very well.
I love how Ashoka seemed more hopeful when she woke up. Like she FELT like the Ashoka that we have always known. That scene with the Purrgil was glorious. The ending of this episode felt like the end of Empire Strikes Back. “Don’t worry, we’ll find them.”
I can see why they showed this in theaters. Some of those shots were so cinematically epic. For real, Dave Filoni needs to be in charge of everything Star Wars. This was probably some of my favorite Star Wars ever!
So many people were complaining about Rosario's performance being too "stoic", but failed to realise that everything in her life until this point weighed heavy on her, especially the idea that she might be destined to follow in the footsteps of her master. Anakin finally realised that with the "Is that what this is about?" line. He helped her see that it didn't to be her path. After that she was smiling and more carefree, just like the snips of old.
I love how Anakin is teaching Ahsoka two lessons here. #1, he's teaching her that she is more than isn't him and that she doesn't have to be afraid of the Dark Side taking her OR her apprentice. #2, most importantly, he's helping her see that she's been in a depression, likely since she learned Ezra was lost. She felt guilty for what Anakin became and it was eating her up. It wasn't as overt as Obi-Wan or Luke, but you can tell just how much her outlook has brightened when she wakes up and is just much more positive than before. She's not just going through the motions any more. She chose to LIVE.
I love the point you made Jay, about Hayden being the right choice for Anakin but having no clue how to perform the part because GL was a terrible director. I wish he had worked with better directors early in his career because the few times he collaborated with talented people, he gave great performances. He plays three different versions of the same character in this episode and they're all distinctly different. That's a great job done by him.
Totally agree. Hayden got absolutely shit on for years about his performance in the prequels and it wasn’t deserved. He didn’t write the script and he didn’t direct the movies, he just did what was asked of him by GL and he got eviscerated for it. His performances in this and especially Obi Wan have shown how good he can play Anakin when given good material to work with. I’m glad current SW fans are finally giving him the love should have gotten 20+ years ago.
@@MsJenniB81 He can be really good when he has the right stuff. If you haven't seen it before, watch him in Shattered Glass. He's fantastic
Young Ashoka was portrayed brilliantly by Ariana Greenblatt. She was young Gamora in the MCU, Sasha in the Barbie movie & Koa in 65.
The line from Ahsoka, "I won't fight you" and Anakin's response of "I've heard that before", is so important. It shows this isn't something taking place in Ahsoka's head but really is Anakin reaching back through the World Between Worlds from the end of his life.
The "I've heard that before" is a reference to Luke saying "I will not fight you" to Vader, twice in the throne room at the end of Return of the Jedi. There's no way of Ahsoka knowing that so Anakin's response can only be his. Coupled with his ability to switch between his Anakin persona and his Vader persona, i.e. the light and dark, demonstrates that he really was the chosen one as he has found the balance in the force between the light and the dark. We know the World Between Words allows for dipping in and out of time.
This episode made me cry and just made me so happy. I'm such an Anakin person. And Jay is right. Obi-Wan and this show ❤ really did alot for him
I loved that they didn't straight up turned him into Vader, they showed a redeemed Anakin with his darkness still inside. It's part of him, Just as Cade will learn centuries later.
Using a lightsaber must be muscle memory for Hayden Christensen at this point he's still got the moves all these years later.
Seeing Hayden with a lightsaber again was like seeing Michael Jordan show up to a local basketball court
This is such an underratedly brilliant comment. Hayden!!!
If you guys missed it there was a live action Kanan picture by the steering wheel
Goddamnit Jay, CONTAIN YOUR RIFFS WHEN THERES EXPOSITION!!😂
sheesh even Adam caught that Canan name drop and you--GYAAH
I love ya brotha, but sometimes you gotta hit the brakes
The core message from Anakin is that Ahsoka is everything that has come before her. This is true for her character and her show. As much as people like to bash certain parts of the franchise, it all forms a legacy that has brought us here today.
Hayden killed it in this. He was early clone wars Anakin, force ghost light side Anakin, and Vader if he never landed in the suit. All with different saber styles as well. Just the highest form of fan service (as a positive thing).
6:05 Anakin has the high ground now! He learned!😂
You two giggling when Ahsoka and Anakin start dueling sounded like bevis and butthead laughing at music videos. Lol😂
8:00
The actress who plays young Ahsoka also played young Gamora in Infinity War.
THIS EPISODE WAS 1000/1000 FOR ME AND I CAN'T STOP WATCHING and its SO good to see Hayden back in Star Wars and getting the recongitition he deserves!!!! its what I wanted for him and clone wars flashbacks!!!! this episode was perfection!!!!
This episode had so many feels... and I have been waiting since it came out to see your reactions. Was not disappointed. I rate that episode 100/10.
The thruth and honesty in your reactions, combined with the absolutely A-game humor! Is why this has become one of my favorite channels!
Makes one validated as to why, one is a Star Wars fan.. Or a fan of anything really
Anakin being able to use both the Light and Dark side of the force at will is beyond cool. If it was any other character that could do that, I would be rolling my eyes saying that it doesn't work that way, but for Anakin it makes perfect sense given his role as the chosen one who brings balance to the force.
Amazing episode,it was so cool to see Hayden being the Anakin from the Clone Wars and a master to Ashoka, even if just for one episode.Purgils are really cool too ;)
"He missed it." - I'm surprised you don't miss more stuff with all the adlib and banter.
I will never get over how badass Hayden looked marching towards Ahsoka and shrugging his shoulders. Then the flash of Vader with the thunder. Beautiful.
"Space Pinocchio!"
Did you know there's actually an animated film called "Pinocchio in Outer Space" (1964)? 😉
Did yall see Ahsoka's eyes go Sith for a moment when she was holding the saber to Anakin's neck?? Such an awesome episode!
The young Ashoka actress is playing Tiny Tina in the Borderlands movie. Can’t wait!
4:26 Adam and Jay become Beavis and Butthead giggling away for like 15 seconds! 😁
It's amazing that this episode did so amazingly well that it basically green lit love action clone wars. Filoni does it again making absolutely perfect Star Wars content
The music of this episode is so powerful
Thank you for pumping these out. I have been waiting for you two to react to this episode since it released, so good!!! The shedding of a tear on the shirt after the Anakin scene was epic, that same spot had me all in the feels.
This, to me, was the most special thing Star Wars has ever done. Moved to tears all over again.
This episode was both Filoni and Star Wars at their best! I think it is my favorite Star Wars ANYTHING in the last several years. Just wow.
Oh man then the edits of Hayden walking then the little snippets of Darth Vader oh it was done so well🔥
Thanks, Jay! Thanks, Adam! 💥 Wasn't the casting of *Ariana* *Greenblatt* as 'young Ahsoka' absolutely inspired?! She's been in some notable projects in recent years... BARBIE (2023), IN THE HEIGHTS (2021), AVENGERS INFINITY WAR (2018).
Realizing that Ashoka had to overcome her guilt over what happened with Anikin... oof
I love that Anakin referenced Luke when he told Ashoka that “He had heard that before” when she refused to fight him.
It's here! Finally! I could cry! Yey! I probably will cry during the episode...again.
Update: I did.

Its because Jay very often gets way too commited to doing his bits than to just watching the stuff he is watching. Sometimes i find it rather frustating because the bits he over commits to for me at least aren't that funy.
@@betaich lots of reactors tend to do that. That's why I am surprised a lot of them don't pause briefly in order to make comments.

"Live or Death" Ahhhh Such a Powerful episode 💙❤️🎇🧡💙👏
I missed ya boys! Shameless confession: I watched the series 6 times through. So much to unpack. Can’t wait to see your reaction for the rest. 😅
Been looking forward to the reaction to this one
young ahsoka is played by Ariana Greenblatt she was also young gamora in infinity war
y’all have an uncanny timing to post when i am cooking and i am so freaking here for it !!!
Im so glad y’all are back!
I loved that this episode was not a retcon of the PT. It just like Clown Wars, filled in missing details.
And then also allowed Ahsoka to know she wasn't responsible for Anakin's downfall. A question Rebels set up, but never answered. Now resulting in the berth of Ahsoka the White.
Just when I thought the Ahsoka hype was over, you guys are taking over the UA-cam reaction section 😂 🔥
All the Anakin/Ahsoka reactions were 👌. I love this show even more now😁
This is the review I’ve been waiting for, for weeks. Really enjoyed it. Thanks guys.
Just absolute peak Star Wars. Loved the ever lovin' shit outta this ep.
It's funny you mention Sabine meeting The Armorer... a lot of deep lore people and Star Wars theory crafters are putting their money on The Armorer being Ursa Wren, Sabine's mom. If that is the case, their meeting would be CRAZY on a whole bunch of levels.
Does a mall baby chili fries?
Darth a Maul baby chili fries?
So. for those who dont know......the last person to say "i wont fight you" to Anakin, was luke on the death star in return of the jedi.
Of any episode to watch the uncut, from any of my favorite Star Wars focused reactors, it is this one. 👏🏻
The young actress was also the young Gamora in Infinity War.
I wish we could tell them one of those X-Wing pilots is Brendan Wayne, aka Mando himself.
Great symbology when she entered the force nexus her path had a "dead end" and when she came back, her "path" continued.
*Willem Dafoe voice* "symbolism!! What's the symbolism"
Just doing a Boondock Saints reference in case you haven't seen it.
4:04 small detail easily missed - Luke said this to Darth Vader in the final showdown of RotJ, hence Anakin's response
The internet at the time renamed Ahsoka...aka Ahsoka The White. Yesterday (11.13.23) there was a poster release for the next Disney Plus Star Wars show.... "VADER." It just said 2024 release.
The actor who plays young Ashoka is the same who played young gamora in Infintiy War. Well versed young actor!
The Chosen One can do whatever the funk he wants to.
"I won't fight you/I've heard that before." Luke in Return of the Jedi, proving this was in fact Anakin (as Anakin the Father, per Mortis arc) not some weird subconscious projection like some people thought.
Ahsoka can also do the psychometry stuff because in Legends the Togruta had a heightened sense of perception through their physiology, which is why so many were Jedi.
IVE BEEN WAITING ALL DAY FOR THIS.
I’ve said under too many videos at this point but I will say it again. This episode proves that a Vader horror film would be so good
Oh, don't get Jay started on "Vader Kruger"...
