  • If you want to see wildlife in Yellowstone, head north!
The best sites in Northern Yellowstone include Lamar Valley, Roosevelt, and Mammoth Hot Springs. But don't forget about some great things outside of the park, such as the Beartooth Highway and Gardiner, MT, where the Roosevelt Arch is located!
The Beartooth Highway connects Red Lodge, MT with Cooke-City-Silvergate, MT, the gateway to the Northeast Entrance.
Once you enter the park, you'll be in the famed Lamar Valley, where the wild things roam, such as bears, bison, wolves, and elk. Don't forget about Trout Lake while you're there!
Also, don't forget the Roosevelt Old West Cookout, one of the best experiences we've ever had in Yellowstone. They'll take you by stagecoach to Pleasant Valley for steak, beans, coffee, cowboy songs, and more.

    Great video!!!
Watched many of yours before we visited in Sept 2021. Two things gonna happen now.
    1. As soon as the wife wakes up I'm watching this again.
    2. We're going back. Didn't get to Lamar Valley because of a road closed and ran out of time. Plus I'll drive that Beartooth Hwy.
    Thanks

Have been going to Yellowstone since I was 3 years old. I am now retired..but still go back every chance I get, it never gets old as it is constantly changing, and I love it when you find baby geysers that have formed since you were last there, LaMar area is among my favorites,

This is such an iconic song for Boomers who were serenaded each week on TV by Roy Rogers and Dale Evens.😌🌹🤠
Even today, my sister and I croon it to each other when signing off on our phone calls with each other!😀

Northern Yellowstone is my favorite part, especially Dunraven Pass and Lamar Valley. Since you are a history buff, check out the story here in Texas about Charles Goodnight saving the Texas "buffalo" herd. They say he invented the Chuckwagon. This year I intend on entering Yellowstone via the Beartooth Highway. The NE entrance is the only one I have not entered thru. When I took my wife to YNP for her first visit (2004) we stayed in the Absaroka Lodge too. Great views. She loved the Arch and was fortunate to see a mama grizz with 2 cubs. I'm interested in the chuckwagon meal this time cause I hate to cook! Thanks for all of your interesting videos and useful information.

    • @WereintheRockies
      @WereintheRockies  2 роки тому +1

Yes! I was aware of the chuckwagon invention. I haven't been to Texas (yet), but they tell his story at the Grant-Kohrs Ranch in Montana, which honors the open range era and the Goodnight trail

I think this might be my favorite video of yours so far, I'm so glad you did one featuring this section of the park! (Then again I'm a bit partial, since with the exception of maybe the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, this covers my verrrry favorite area of Yellowstone!) I made sure I brought my parents in through the North Entrance for our first visit last year, b/c I really wanted to experience going through the Roosevelt Arch before entering the park to get the "full experience" of finally arriving after so many years of anticipation, haha!
Hopefully one day, I can camp in the Slough Creek Campground and hear the wolves serenade me after dark/before sunrise (from inside my van of course LOL) - that is such a bucket list item for me! 🤞
Thanks for including all the history and facts too, as always! 10/10!

A great video. The Beartooth Highway is truly a gem. Everybody should experience it once, IMHO.
Having said that, I would have to disagree with you about Roosevelt Lodge's food. We ate there once, after waiting 1 hour and 45 minutes to be seated. The food could best be described as something whipped up by an 8-year-old, with no sophistication whatsoever. That experience was enough to put us off for the rest of our lives. We own a cabin near West Yellowstone and visit YNP multiple times every single year.

Excellent video. Thanks for correcting the name of the herd. They are Bison and not Buffalo. A Buffalo is a totally different animal and not native to North America. Another common misnomer is calling the original people in North America, Indians. Indians are from India. The original folks here are First Nations or Indigenous. Cheers

Little known fact Buffalo, Elk, Deer etc were virtually extinct due to wolves when Europeans first arrived (sarcasm), God people can be dumb, before some idiot accuses me of being a city born lefty, I grew up on a cattle ranch in wolf country and am extremely conservative, I simply believe in facts I can observe and the fact is there are insane tons of Elk in that region and Moose populations are expanding into more areas of the West just as wolf populations are increasing.
