I saw some dislike for the shotbolt so i'm gonna do a counterpoint, you can collateral with it, wallbang is more useful for those trying to counter the crossbow by hiding behind cover, and oneshots if it hits your body. Stomach shots kill and i've never had it fail me. Edit: taking both normal bolts and shotbolts covers utility and pvp
This is basically my main loadout. Lately, I've been leaving off the pistol with fanning and just using a melee weapon. The crossbow is so good, I rarely ever use my secondary. I actually lead with the explosive bolts, though. Once you know how to use them, they are absolutely devastating.
'Little Timmy jumping and dancing and eating a shot bolt to the face'. Amazing ;) Great content man, really good video format and flow of content delivery.
Tried this loadout last night - it really is super effective. 1 game, 9 kills solo. All involved using the Officer with dum dum, and as they go to stop the bleeding, hit them with the crossbow explosive bolt splash damage. @@HuntCraft24

A few notes since this video dropped: A) Nice vid, nice style, great showcase B) Reg bolts are awesome, for stealth, ammo, bosses, pve and pvp. Since the new poison nerf to Immo-bois, it's also nice to know that reg bolts can OSK on headshot, and I believe both special bolts OSK as well (I hope the poison nerf gets reworked/reverted, as Silent Sparks poison was awesome to eliminate Immos from quite a range) C) Uppercut/Mat are getting dmg nerfs to >125! So instead I like to run secondaries with melee attachments, as Immos can be taken out with bolt or stock, and I free up my tool slot. Pax Claw is awesome, and 2-slots have fun options
Thank you 😇 ya, normal bolts are cool but for me if i'm gonna use them, it feels like i can replace the crossbow with a bow and have quicker reload and a smaller weapon! ya the uppercut dmg nerf is pretty sad 🙁
@@HuntCraft24 fair. I like the stronger rotations on the crossbow, but the "stand your ground" nature of the bow is also super fun I'm also biased cuz I got a 50 m headshot on regular bolts, with a 60 m LeMat headshot follow-up on the teammate. That was years ago and the high is real haha. And every successful wall bang with shotbolt, so l run both of them The nerf is rough but it'll be interesting to see the variety
Since Shotbolt's only real advantage over Explosive Bolts is the muzzle velocity (both drop hard and the penetration from the Shotbolt is nearly useless), I tend to go half Explosive, half normal. Normal Bolts allow me to hold angles more easily and silently kill AI with virtually infinite ammo (you never know where a bolt came from unless you are right in front of the shooter or if you get hit) while Explosive Bolts just go kablooie and are just as good as Shotbolts at corridor encounters, if not better. A single ammo box doubles my total Explosive Bolt count (10 if equipped on first ammo slot) and covers spamming regular Bolts on enemies without recovering any. (Bulwark is recommended in order to avoid taking too much collateral damage when shooting Explosive Bolts at CQB.) My secondary of choice is the Uppercut; Ooga booga big damage and has six bullets to it. The Trueshot is great for Dum dum usage, but not really much competitive as a Crossbow secondary when it comes to any other ammo type because you either have to give up on muzzle velocity (FMJ) or not have a range increase (normal ammo or HV). (Say goodbye to penetration in any part of your loadout when using Dum Dum for the Trueshot, though.)
Great video, easy subscribe!, I would love to see more with different loadouts. My personal favorite is winne cent with dum dum plus short crossbow with choke and poison bolts :)
I just watched this entire video and never even realised i was watching a small channel. Then as i was about to click off i saw the low sub count and was shocked. Keep up the amazing quality bro
The shotbolt is strong but I prefer the normal bolt. With the shotbolt you can oneshot at any range but how many times you use it over 30m (the oneshot range of the normal bolt)? The real strenght of the shotbolt is that it kills if you hit the lower torso and, if the angle is correct, it can kill even when you hit the arms. And the penetration, even if it's not the best. All great things but I prefer the normal bolt 'cause it's completely silent, you can retrieve the bolts, heavy bleed if they don't die, more ammunition (very useful in a long fight), super fast and silent for the pve, the bolt travels faster and drops less (with the shotbolt you have to adjust a fair bit even at 20m if they are running). Obviously I'm not taking into account the explosive bolt, it's so different that it's like talking of another weapon.
I main explosive bolt crossbow with 4 ammo boxes. I can confirm from experience, almost nobody runs Bulwark. I can also confirm that few people expect or handle well the AOE.
I can't compete with meta rifle against meta rifle in 5/6 star lobbies. I'm old, my eyes are bad, and my hands are slow. But those same 6 star players who main long ammo tend to have no idea what to do with all the explosions and density of fire that 4 ammo boxes affords. I'm honestly surprised I don't see more of it. Almost nobody runs this.
@@HuntCraft24 I only take Bulwark in case I need to shoot a bolt at my feet because some weeb with a katana is running at me shouting anime lines over voice chat
What setting do you have that changed lighting for you inside buildings? I can see it get much brighter at >11:44 . I always struggle seeing people inside, this would help lots! Thanks!
I used to bring in shotbolts but arrows are just better. They can one shot to the chest and cause bleeding. I either run them down with my secondary while they’re stopping bleed, or chuck a grenade at them. They either stop the bleed and die or run and die from bleed.
i don't disagree, but if i'm gonna use normal arrows, i think the bow does a better job, just as silent, just as deadly, and it's a medium slot, and no punishing reload. probably gonna make a video about the bow too 😉
@@HuntCraft24 I like the hunting bow as well, but it’s not as good imo. The bow requires you to pull back the string and shoot it, or hold it and walk super slow. With the crossbow you can run and hipfire people pretty easily while dodging shots. I killed 6 people last night in Pelican Prison with the crossbow arrows. Crossbow over any shotgun for sure. Just takes time to get used to.
@@Yummeosbada I'm not saying this to be rude, but they're actually called bolts. Bows use arrows, while crossbows use bolts. They are similar, but very distinct. You may have already known this and just got confused, but I thought I'd let you know just in case. Have a great day, buddy!
@@HuntCraft24 2 sides of the same coin, imo. Crossbow reloads on movement, so it feels similar to a Martini or something. Great first video. Appreciate the lengthy intro with the details regarding the weapon capabilities and loadout options; while most might be old news to a vet like me, these intros are often glossed over and I often find I can learn a new trick or idea from them just the same when they're expanded upon. I usually don't stick around for gameplay videos, as many of the more notable Hunt streamers will simply append relevant gameplay to the end of their loadout intro and let it speak for itself; I much prefer the regular updates and commentary regarding mindset and thought process while reviewing the gameplay, something you've done here for its entirety. Lastly, I liked the inclusion of some of the limitations and strange 'why didn't that hit?' sort of replays; it can get a bit tiresome to see the same successes over and over. If instead viewers can see some of the shortcomings and limitations of a given loadout, it makes the whole video a bit more realistic and practical for those looking to try a new kit. Well done throughout.
