Tip from Minnesota, USA where we have EXTREME cold weather-when it's below zero and windy, wearing a pair of sunglasses helps your eyes not water and saves your eye makeup!
I'm in Finland in the beginning of January thinking "that's not dressing for the cold". 😅 Here, where the temperatures drop quite often below -20 Celcius (that's -4 Fahrenheit), you showed how you could dress on the warmest days at the moment. Still, you did manage to give me some ideas, so well done! 😄👍 I've noticed the materials and overall quality is very important in winter clothes, like now I have a great looking, quite thin but super warm jacket from a Finnish brand Luhta. They're expensive but I got it on sale. I love it. And having enough looseness in your outfit helps keeping warm, you need air between layers. And wool has space for air which makes it warm also. Leave out cotton socks and wear a couple of woollen ones on top of each other. Try it!
I live in Canada. We have very cold weather. Being fashionable is still possible! I love the winter season and love my scarves and hats. Boots can be practical and stylish too. I agree that colour, patterns, and textures make a difference. Thank you for styling for the winter!
i’ve never worn jeans against my legs in the winter. there’s always another layer under there. if you live in an urban environment that gets cold (like me in Chicago), you don’t f@&$ around with the cold. i also wear a quilted vest under my wool camel coat and tuck my hair in under a blanket scarf. it takes years of practice to get this down, but once you do, it’s life-changing.
Yeah me too 🙂👍👍I always were a vest to keep your core warm and I wear ski pants different colors. I also live in Chicago too and our winters here are brutal😉
I've found fleece lined leggings....so cozy! They also had some nice patterned versions. Look amazing with an oversize sweater and over the knee boots.
Karen!! i found fleece lined tights which changed my life. i can wear skirts in peace on most winter days. also wear them under jeans for an invincible warm feel! found mine at burlington coat factory. its like a tjmax/marshalls dept store. not sure what the equivalent in UK is tho.
When I visit my niece in Oregon I wear fleece lined tights. Super warm and cozy. Doubled as my thermals under my jeans in the mountains. I also wore smart wool socks, thin but warm and doesn’t add bulk under your boots.
Hey guys!! Here's a video sharing my tips on how to look stylish in cold weather. What is your No.1 tip for staying warm and looking stylish at the same time? Thumbs up if this video helped!!
hi Karen, good tips THX U, I have 2 for everybody, 1 / I just discover jeans with faux fur inside, OMG very warm, I find its on Chinese site, I think U can find it on amazon cheap, comfy, warm, good but be careful, take a size up cos' Chinese people are more petite 2 / and of course under a jumper, a shirt everything a Damart it's an old french brand, it's thermo, beautiful ? noooo, but the best ? yes, I try uniclo thermo, but not warm as a Damart. believe me it's not cos' I'm French that I say it, cos' for something not nice it's expensive, personnaly I prefer men section send hugs :-)
Hey Karen, As always thx for the winter style tips. Gosh knows with the bitter Jan/Feb weather around the corner for us in NYC metro area, a few chic accessories will make the unpleasant weather conditions a little bit easier to tolerate. That said, on my wish list, bottle green leather gloves, cashmere scarf and a chic hat to shield the Mr. Freeze away. Anyways, enjoy your holiday. We'll see you soon in your next video xo
Thanks for the ideas... It's enlighting..... I am in Sweden n its coldddd.... I always use two scarfs mostly in pops of colours contrast to my outfits... Or scarfs with prints like chequred or some prints used it with plain colour n used it... It uplift the whole outfit...
I've been watching your videos for quite a while now and I suddenly have the urge (one might say because of the holiday season approaching) to express a huge thank you. You gave amazing style advice at a time I needed them the most. Being dressed nicely instantly changes your mood and makes you ready to tackle life's difficulties.People like you deserve all love and happiness. Thank you.❤❤❤❤
A colorful head wrap for the natural sisters who are looking to keep warm but a wool hat is a no go, layered over a silk scarf underneath. Pop of unexpected color, keeps your head warm and is usually very unexpected plus protects your tresses from the cold and the wind.
Thank you for doing this video. These are great tips. I feel like this particular issue is always overlooked in the fashion/blogging world but such a vital one to cover. Every winter I scour the internet to find ways to be stylish and warm when temps drop to frigid levels to no avail until now. I will be rewatching this video multiple times to make sure I get all of your great tips as well as to study all of the amazing looks included.
Watching this in the heat of summer in Australia and I’m still inspired, that’s the power of Karen! Seriously though, I honestly didn’t know how you northern hemisphere folk deal with the cold - I’ll definitely keep theses tips in mind next time I travel to a freezing destination.
Fleece lined tights are really warm. I wear leggings under wide leg cropped pants. Also I have a vintage fox stole that I wear over coats and it looks like it is part of the coat. I wear Zara sweatshirts with fur sleeves under a long vest. Also I have long faux fur vest and wear it over coats
Your hair is a GORGEOUS with your with that taupe-fawn turtleneck and the man-tailored toppers! I showed a picture of you to one of my young salon clients (a 7-year-old Ethiopian girl). I wanted to show her all of the style versatility she could have with her beautiful soft coils in a shorter cut when she gets a little older. She got excited, and I told her I also continue to get inspired by other women who figure out their beauty we can both be as stylish as Karen Brit Chick as long as we work out shapes and colors! We had a blast looking at your video stills 😘
My all time favorite... dancer warm-ups over jeans. They are long, mid thigh, soft sweater knit, in gorgeous colors. You can push them down to mid calf, ankle, etc, or wear them thigh length... Dramatic and gorgeous! Warm, warm, warm!!!
Great useful ideas Karen! Love your videos! Since watching your videos I have gone through my closet and drawers and purged all the stuff that doesn't fit, etc. I had eight full bags and I mean full.. LOL! I have gotten organized and now really think about the things I want to buy. Thanks!
Layering too jackets is the best tip ever, specifically for me. I'm a portuguese who lives in England, but i'm not so thrilled about this cold weather... Thanks for sharing tips. Love your channel!!!
Yes!! It's Tuesday!! 🙌🏼 Such a great video!! I love that you were so brave with colors and textures and styles… I feel like so inspired to go out there and look fab in the New York City cold now!
This was so Timely I live in Michigan. Black gray and brown have been my go-to from September to about March .Every now and then I would add a touch of a color, but you have inspired me to step out of that pattern. I want to say I also am enjoying the quick looks the music towards the end with written comments it's just making your videos even more enjoyable. You have so much talent and Style thank you Karen
i love this video! so excited to incorporate these ideas, especially adding more color combos to my wardrobe. i really appreciate your energetic passion for style. thank you!
Amalie de Fine Licht So what do you wear?I lived in Nederland, and that wet coldness goes through your bones!I love the wool, though. The US sells way too much synthetic sweaters.Yuck!
You touched on my no. 1 tip. Wear a long skirt, layered with a legging or any thin knit pant and a taller boot. When the wind blows it blocks the cold air from going through your legs and it creates an insulated triangle of sorts on your lower half. I also have a long down parka coat in a pretty color reserved for the coldest of days. Thanks for the tips Karen. I was pondering layering my denim with my wool coat but wasn't sure if it would work.
I also avoid wearing a black coat in the winter it just so depressing lol! Also Uniqlo is the best for getting long sleeves, turtle necks and leggings that are thermals. They also do thermal tights too!
fleece lined leggings saved my life when I lived in Vermont. i really liked the idea of layering jackets because i would have *never* thought of that. your tips are always so simple + so amazing! no need for these tips here in saint lucia now lol but i'm definitely going to be bookmarking this for the next time i travel to the US in winter.
You outdid yourself with your advice in this video, Karen 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 You just keep getting better and better! You’ll be hitting 200K followers in no time.... just remember us early subscribers when you’re at the top lol 😘😘😘
KarenBritChick Mark my words, girl! I had foot surgery 10 days ago and am very much enjoying catching up on UA-cam. Your vids have been such a highlight 👍🏼✨
Thank you for these tips!*** I feel that one of the most frustrating things about Winter weather is dressing stylishly while staying warm. It's usually ugly compared to dressing in warmer weather. Bonus reason why this is a great video: my amazing husband has accepted a new job, so he, our Beagley boys and I are relocating to SE Michigan from NE Ohio in January 2020! 😊❤ Perfect timing for this video! *** I just realized this was from two years ago! Still applicable...that's a great video!***
Raised in Wisconsin living in Colorado: 2 pairs socks peds and knee high knit socks; tights under pants; wife beater tank under a thermal long sleeve tee on before wearing publicly seen tops; thin liner gloves under warm mittens; thin jacket or blazer under long coat. Hey, anyone else imaging outfits in your closet while Karen talks about combinations? Fun isn’t it?
Hi Karen. Love your videos... If you can, please, I'd like u to give tips on traveling in extreme winter time with a basic and minimalist wardrobe and not being so dull and boring... How can we add style, colour, trends with just a few pieces, same coat, jeans etc. Thank you for your ideas! Cheers🌲
OMG I am SO glad I moved from Chicago to Raleigh! I used to have to wear 5 layers of clothing just to commute to work! It's hard to be fashionable when the wind chill factor is 72 degrees below zero!!!
Here in California it's way to hot most of the year for even a Jacket. However when it's winter and a frigid 60° at night. These tips are gunna be mad handy. Thanks Karen😗
Your tips are gold , I am about to get ready I will try the tights over tights thing right away. I never thought about it , its genius. Also I will wear my leather jacket underneath a beige coat, I love my leather jacket and so I can wear it during winter. Thx ❤
Ok I’m really going to try to not look like a bag lady this winter despite my annual January shock/horror/pissed off that I wasn’t born into royalty and/or in Barbados. I will challenge Canada’s cruel and bitter winds in a bottle green faux fur and maybe some of those snappy purple boots. Then I’ll buzz off to Barbados in February. ❤️
Deanne Lanoue, fellow Canadian, oh how I hear ya! Never you mind...we'll brave the Canadian winter together in fashion spirit! At least you get to buzz off to Barbados...imma tough it out this winter. Pray for me, girl. Lol!
Yes, you can do three layers easily besides doubling up your tights. Tights, leggings, jeans, and then I'll add the skirt on top of that. Love that suggestion and the moto jacket UNDERNEATH the wool coat, Karen. Thank you!
Hello, Lady Karen! You're stunning and on point as usual! As you know, I live in Beijing now and everytime I go to the underground shopping mall in my part of the city, I pass a store that has the thickest tights I've ever seen. Thanks to you and this video, I'm going to buy them and try them on. They look and feel so snuggly. The girls that I've seen wear them look so chic.
Oops, I got so excited about all the new color combos I responded before thinking it through..... I do remember the mixing prints vid. I love your "where did u get that" blog and KarenBritChick youtube channel. I have entire notes section on my phone of your suggestions. Thanks for all your videos, blogs and instagram posts. All the Best ❤️
Karen.... these are wonderful tips thank you! I'm wearing a white parka with fur trim for my trip to Chicago in January. Can you give some practical tips for boots when you're in wet slushy snow ?
That blue stole is amazing. Where did you get that. Love the idea of colorful hat. I’ve got big curly hair so it’s tough finding the right fit and look. Thanks for the great videos.
Your so awesome? I live in snow in October, November, and December, and January, February and March, doesn't snow much but when it does? We get 4 to 6 inches of snow? So at times I don't know what to wear in the winter months? I want to wear skirts? And boots? But didn't know if I can pull it off? It gets cold? I'm in nc
Cashmere or thinsulate lined gloves in a bright color, layer fitted thermal underwear under tops and trousers with tights which increase your warmth without the bulk under your outfits.

Hi Karen! We always spend cold Christmas in Seattle. I love silk long. underwear, It looks good on its own. 2 pairs of socks one light and one heavier. I love this video. Going to add more color.

D R-K, you're speaking my language! Nothing but brilliant scarves & hats (toques, fedoras, even a cold-weather turban!)
fantastic tips!
Thanks Sis! ‘Preciate the tip.
Excellent video, your hair and makeup looks beautiful.
I am a big fan of wearing two jackets layered (preferably a coat over a blazer), and two scarves intertwined :) And crewnecks over turtlenecks.

The hat with the short hair looks stunning! Love it!

I would go for hiker style lace up boots wig tractor like soles. Looks cute and functional too
I find that sunglasses do keep my face warm! They trap warm air and stop winds from going into my eyes.
I discovered you like 2 or 3 months ago! I'm so happy, I love your videos! Your tips are so useful!
That blue stole is amazing. Where did you get that. Love the idea of colorful hat. I’ve got big curly hair so it’s tough finding the right fit and look. Thanks for the great videos.
Thanks i got it several years ago from a random shop that to be honest i've forgotten!
I'm in nc
I love how excited you get about fashion even if it's something that's not my style you make me feel like I want to wear it anyways 😄
Cashmere or thinsulate lined gloves in a bright color, layer fitted thermal underwear under tops and trousers with tights which increase your warmth without the bulk under your outfits.
