Future double-bass with EC A123 vs Larceny A123?

I noticed a few drops of water really brought the fruit flavor up a notch without sacrificing the oak flavors too much. Also, it brought out the char notes a bit more especially in the finish.
Spot on with the tasting notes. I really love this batch with its oak forward profile and dark fruits in the background. Bit of a different profile than the typical Elijah Craig, which I really enjoy.
I am still a bit of a bourbon noobie but I have found that I love cask/barrel proof whisky. Elijah Craig barrel proof A123 is currently my favorite bourbon.
I am loving the A123. The first sip, it was an eye opener, very punchy, but 2nd sip was smooth with that perfect balance between the sweetness and oak flavors. Letting the bottle sit for a bit, anticipating how it may taste after bottle opens up.
I just got the A123 this past weekend and I really like it. I’m a big fan of bourbons with an oak forward palette such as OF1910 and EC A123 hit the spot for me.
I never acquired the A123. However, I picked up a bottle of the B522 a couple weeks ago... I need to revisit it, as I often need to with a higher-proof pour, to pin-point the flavors. However - and I was very proud of myself - I actually picked up a "Sara Lee Butter Poundcake" on the finish from it. I'm a Pro! LOL.
Just found a bottle on the shelf. I went in for $10 Teachers…. I needed to save money since I just bought Tool tickets…. Got to see Danny Carey in person.
I love it when I find barrel picks of EJ barrel proof.
So I am just starting my bourbon journey, I started with wild turkey 101, then 4 roses knob creek 9 and woodford reserve double oak. I have used your channel to guide my purchases. Rare breed and old forester 1920 are my next purchases. But I am ready to expand my palette.
Those are great bottles to start with. Try to find toasted Elijah Craig as well to give you an example of a toasted finish.
This first ECBP to got same month of release- just saw one store put out B-522 just after new year. I really like this A-123-it opens up after just a little time- but even neck pour was good! Great review!
Crushed the review on this one for me, cracked one tonight and you are right on here. Enjoyed the fresh poor tonight. "it packs a flavor and I'm here for it"
I had a chance to get this A123 batch for $80 or a ECBP store pick for $84 that was 8 years old and a whopping 135 proof. I went with the store pick and it is absolutely a hitter. Better than any ECBP batch I have ever had. Very creamy and rich. Proof did not blow me away either. I’ll be going back for a couple back up bottles of this. Total wine in GA store pick

When I was first getting into good whiskey I got really spoiled and basically could get ECBP and Stagg Jr. anywhere for $60. Right now the only thing left in that range are rare breed and old forester 1920. Hopefully those stay sub $60 for the next few years.
I think if everyone on UA-cam can keep saying how undervalued these are, we can probably get the price up to 125.00 by the ends year. You know, cost increase at all. Water doesn’t age for free. It’s sooooo expensive(eye roll)

Picked up one last night $75 in oklahoma
In PA it's $63.99. Bought 2 and found 8 more on shelf 3 blocks from my house.
Solid review as always. Be sure to trademark "Color cam". As for a purchase, I am still working on my A122. I might try it in a bar if I see it.

Double bass: a123 vs new Stagg (jr)
I picked EC BP A123 last week and cannot wait to try it. I also was able to find the EC BP B522 and Larceny BP C922. Still cannot find Larceny BP A123.
I love the EC Barrel proof evaluations. I am able to get it from my local liquor store owner, who gets a limited supply. Usually at a price of $80 - $85.
Just can’t wait to review this tonight alongside of this review to compare my notes

I’ll skip this, not a fan of overly tannic oak notes. Happy to hear it’s cherry and spicy though, and slightly higher proof. Maybe it’ll open up over the next few months into something better.
I'm not very good t picking up notes but i do agree that this batch is less sweet that the B522 I have, and unfortunately I still havent found a C922. But overall I do like this A123
I've never met an ECBP I didn't like, but speaking of the oak-heavy notes, I've had several store picks at 9-10 years that I thought really benefited from a few fewer years in the barrel. Nicely sweet
Think ECBP is my favorite whiskey. Kind of fly's under the radar from the masses so it's somewhat available and reasonably priced even when marked up. I think the value is one of the best. Thanks for the review Jason.
Able to grab one at 79.99 at a mom and pop shop. Harder to see them at big chain stores as they don't last. Cheers! Now I'm looking for Larceny BP A123.

My store in MS gets store picks of it, and they're always $99. That's why I haven't bought it yet. I'd totally buy it for $70 or less
I very much enjoy this batch. Your tasting notes are on point; dominate cherry 🍒 and oak. That is kind of my jam. I need to get a backup.
Elijah Craig is generally a super smooth bourbon.

I thought A123 was good, but didn’t live up to any of the 2022 batches. I thought A123 had big flavors but they seemed kind of muted - brown sugar, barrel char, a bit of tobacco, some dark chocolate. I didn’t get any fruit and thought it leaned towards astringency. I’m still going to try for a whole bottle.
Heading to Heaven Hill this weekend and hope they have it out.

I have been finding a good amount Elijah Craig barrel proof lately, but I am paying 80 for each bottle. I don't think thats a crazy price for what I am getting. It is almost as expensive as Bookers and that is kinda crazy but I gotta have em. I have a couple store pick bottles of ECBP that are 8 years old and are super good as well.
Great review once again. Can't wait to grab this and how I like this compared to the '22s to see where my palate leans.

Just got this and I like it but I got Luca Mariano single barrel pick that I found to be a lot better, with a similar proof. Definitely a good buy for the money for ECBP.
Great review! Hoping to get my hands on a bp batched release from EC as my only experience has been their standard smb and a private barrel, the latter tasting like a cinnamon roll covered in cherry preserves. If any of them are as flavorful as that, I'll look forward to picking up a bottle
I've had many private barrels and I feel that the batched versions are better, IMO. They're almost always older and more complex

Thanks for the review this one sounds like a pass for me. I'm not a huge fan of EC when oak is a very dominant note on the palate. Will hold out for one where maybe there butterscotch and caramel is a bit more front and center. I don't always want that but that kind of harsher oak note you get with EC is not my jam
I've noticed a few bottles of A123 sitting on the shelf in our liquor store for quite a while - price is $85. No takers for months.
I'd be willing to consider 100 for one of these. Problem is around here they run 120 to 150.

The tannic oaky drying note is my least favorite in bourbondom. As a longtime ECBP consumer, I have a few pirate bottles bunkered, I feel the quality has dropped off considerably the last couple years. These used to be sure buys, usually 2 or 3 of each batch. Now, meh, if I don't pick one up I don't feel like I'm losing out much. So many other good bourbons to pick from.
I went back to it over the weekend. I still think it tastes like Heaven Hill Bookers. Tastes younger than the age statement but has a lot going on

C922 or A123??? Keep up the awesome content Jason! I think it would be super cool for you to do an annual or semi annual barrel proof blind like you did for your 44th birthday. With the best Stagg, ECBP, Russell's/Turkey, etc. Miss the old Stagg for ECBP battles for best of the year.
I would if I could get stagg anymore. Lol. I don't want to pay secondary for them but I guess I have to sometimes.

Great review and I like the note at the end about not being as sweet as the 522. (Have a couple of those thank goodness) I've found my Barrell Bourbon bottles, especially batch 33 to be spicy tasting. Do you notice this as well, and if so how does the Barrell bourbon compare to this?
33 to me is spicy as well but this is more heavy cinnamon then I get on the 33.
A123 is a sleeper batch imo.
