    Dear Gabriel:
Ridding a tank, of pest snails is pretty much impossible, apart from breaking down the set-up. Some, fish species (like loaches, kribensis cichlid (pelvicachromis taeniatus), and goldfish) eat pest snails. However, they will never devour all the pests and pest eggs. It is also very difficult to starve pest snails, as they can get by on algae.
The best thing to do is break down the tank and start over.
To avoid pest snails and limpets, the best practive I’ve found, is soak all, new plants, in one tablespoon of alum to one gallon of water, for 48 hours. You can get alum, in the baking section, of Walmart. Most plants can tolerate this. But, jungle val (Vallisneria americana) and Bacopa caroliniana are two plants that will not. You should examine new specimens, of these species, with a magnifying glass, to ensure they have no, pest eggs attached, before adding them, to a set-up.
Allowing sibling, fancy guppies to mate will result in fry that are so inbred as to have bent spines. It is best to dedicate at least two tanks, to guppies, so that siblings can be kept separate.
I hope you have good success, with your, aquarist endeavors.
    All my best,
    Sincerely,
    E. J. Brinegar

Leave the snails, they are awesome for fish tanks. They help breakdown waste and dead vegetation. I purposely put snails in all my tanks. Otherwise snail traps work. A bunch of diy options on UA-cam if you search it.

Already drained the tank and will leave it like that a couple weeks so even eggs die. Thanks for stopping by brother.

Certain vegetables attract the snails like crazy and you can pull them out like with a small peeled potato. Or if you want you can buy a loach. I've had the pest snails for a long time in my tank and I allow them to exist to help clean the tank & to keep they're population down I have 3 black kuhli loaches, and one Queen Dario loach. The Dario is honestly the best but they tend to sleep more but when they're active they are out looking for food.

I have been wanting a loach for the main tank, maybe I'll see if i can pick it up earlier than later. I really do not like these snails i know they clean up but i think they bring the look of the tank down. Thanks for the advice, and thanks for stopping by.

@@GCaquatics Happy to help. I heard the vegetable advice from a lot from people. Never tried it myself, but I hear from experienced fish owners it really helps. They're egg sacks can be hard to see, and they'll lay them everywhere. Even if you managed to get rid of the hatched ones, you'll need to clean the glass & any ornaments to ensure none of them hatch though it's unlikely because if they're too wet they don't hatch & if they're too dry they don't hatch either. But in my opinion they'll still have a small chance of hatching. The ones you really want to get is at the top of the tank

Can there be eggs or baby ones in the sponge filter?

    • @floydeggleston5558
      @floydeggleston5558 2 місяці тому +1

@@GCaquatics Inside it? Well maybe yeah. They'll lay them anywhere they can gain access to. If they can fit themselves, it's possible. And I saw the part asking about if leaving it with no food in the tank, in my opinion, it has a chance of taking awhile to work, or they may be scarce & still survive, because as they die off snails can feed from the shells for calcium, but, won't be enough for them to thrive, and they may die off, but it may take a generation or two. A couple weeks or so maybe. Because if even 1 managed to lay eggs, then all it takes is the eggs to hatch and then you got more snails just hungry ones that may not make it... I never tried leaving it as a method of getting ride of them.
Forgive me if I seem to ramble on. From the looks of your video it doesn't look like there should be a whole "LOT" egg sacks, maybe some, a good amount even but doubtful at this stage, but if you're really anxious to get rid of them I'd just take everything out of your tank, clean everything off, clean the glass on the inside of the tank, mix around what substrate/soil you have in there with a landscape tool to detroy any down there, and use anything that contains a lot of calcium to attract them to one spot and remove them. It's a chore I know. But the clutches can hatch as little as in one week depending on your water parameters. I should withdraw the idea of using the loach method by itself, while it may help, they don't necessarily go after the eggs so getting ride of them manually is the best thing. You probably got them from a fish store by accident. I wish I could give you a snap of an answer in 1 way to get rid of them, but honestly, doing it manually is the best especially now. I guess it's been a little over a week since you posted this video, what's it looking like now?

@@GCaquatics I should also mention that in my experience with the pest snails they can creep their way into hang on filters on OCCASION. It's hard for them to bridge the gap, but, if the surface between the filter and your tank is wet enough they'll use it for a path. So if one of your other tanks seems to keep getting them, and you have a filter like that, I'd check the inside. Looks like you use mostly sponge fillers, which I definitely like myself! :) Mine broke had to get a quick fix so one of my tanks has the hang on filter still.

That stuff all on the bottom is mulm so that’s just junk and snails will grow from that I believe don’t quote me on that. I have found if you get a small yo-yo loach it works so amazingly; haven’t found another snail in my entire 54 gallon from one yo-yo loach; I believe Kuhli loaches would work similarly.

That over feeding thing I found by experimenting has not been true snails produce regardless i even noticed them eating each other when food stopped. Snail traps work good and turkey basters to suck snails and eggs out works probably the cheapest tool. or algae wafers, unsalted green beans, zucchini then scoop them out.assassin snails and cichlids like snails there are various ways depending on the time you want to put in it… hope this helps

Well you know what I did I tore my tank down clean and dried everything left it empty for several days then started over. But that is the extreme method. Or you can get you an assassin snail they will hunt and kill them. Or maybe a pea puffer.

@@GCaquatics Well if you really want that bad to remove them seachem coupramine and similar solutions kill all invertebrates. put in the dosage of your gallons and let in for 2 days till every snail is dead, then run a carbon sponge filter to remove it, it wont kill the beneficial bacteria and wont harm the fish. Just a reminder though, we all don't like and find pretty everything in nature but that's just how the ecosystem is completed, our aquariums are representations of the natures ecosystem and i think we should not intervene.
