Warren is one of the better techs i've seen, along with the techs for... Bring Me The Horizon's Lee Malia Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson Queen's Brian May Tedeschi Trucks Band's Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi Journey's Neal Schon Toto's Steve Lukather Hunter Hayes Korn's James Schaffer, Brian Welch and Reginald Arvizu Yeah Yeah Yeah's Nick Zinner Soundgarten's Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd and the late rhythm guitarist Chris Cornell Yes' late bassist Chris Squier Lamb Of God's Mark Morton, Willie Adler and John Campbell Slayer's Gary Holt Coheed And Cambria's Claudio Sanchez Fall Out Boy's Joe Trohman, Patrick Stump and Pete Wentz and many more
He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Columbia University. ‘He’s an Ivy Leaguer. Super well spoken and he adapts really well to whom he is hosting . Amazing guy. I can’t remember where I read about him, but I was like, I know that dude!
Loving these new Rig Rundowns. They are shot beautifully and the new guy (forgive me for not knowing his name) is a great host/interviewer for the segment. :)
In case you missed it check out "When Love Comes To Town" on Herbie Hancock's little known "Possibilities" Project Album and DVD, Jonny just tears it up, there are many other great songs on the album too (Annie Lennox etc) but Jonny's screaming riffs, Herbie's incredible piano playing and THE best all around drummer around IMHO Steve Jordan, either live or studio he just kick's ass period. I would have given my left nut to play with a drummer that good, he lays down such a heavy groove that Jonny just lays back and then explodes in some of his best, tasty riffs and licks ever.
The saddle on the Martin looked to be have special compensation on several strings, did not look stock to me but I've never seen that model up close. Great video, thanks!
I haven't been watching these rig rundowns that long. I've probably seen a half-dozen of them. I always enjoy them. Although some people commented that this one seemed a bit awkward, I don't think it was John Bollinger's fault. He asked the right questions in a good way. Both Jonny and his tech were just not particularly relaxed and smooth in what they said. Regardless, I think it was great--very informative, and it gave me a sense of Jonny's personality and his gear, which is the goal.
I really like that guitar tech. He seems like he enjoys his job. The fact that they use stock instruments (not talking about that beautiful Tele) makes them even cooler. Most of the time, all the instruments are outa phase, coil split/tapped, Keily mysterious mod, with a wang thang bending the flip chip on the flux orange sprague capacitor.
I don't know why all the hate for John Bohlinger. The video opens with: "Tell me a little bit about this guitar." It's a natural, dry approach. It's not sexy, but it doesn't need to be. Let the interviewee be the personality. Previous Rig Rundowns are filled with loaded questions and personal input that isn't necessary. See the J Mascis for an example, in which the interviewer said something like, "I also like high action too, it makes it easier to play" or something to that it effect. It doesn't seem appropriate for the interviewer to force his or her way into the interview. It's not his or her place to assert themselves into the interview in such a way.
I like how the tech gives that impromptu hats-off, then has an issue of PG on his bench too. If he's that prepared for a backstage interview, imagine the luxury Lang has with that kind of attention given to his sound/equipment.
It seems to me Jonny's LP is a 58 Chambered Reissue. He mentioned how light it is AND how it even paled in comparison to many of the other LP's of the day he and others have played.
Just got my Analogman King of Tone 2 weeks ago and I had the toggle switch and the extra gain added to my pedal. Great tones. Who makes that looper pedal silver thing? Did he mention what brand of inst. cables he uses?
I applaud the effort to upgrade the production value. I think the kinks will be ironed out after a while. Right now I think the editing is disorienting. Just as you figure out what you're looking at and *where* it is, the video cuts to a close up shot from an entirely different angle and you lose your bearings.
Why is everyone on John's back? This interview was fine; he seemed interested, and was respectful throughout. Neither of the interviewees were particularly outgoing, I think that may have had more to do with any 'awkwardness' sone people may have perceived?!! :P
That is just a gorgeous guitar, looks so unique...different from all these overrated Telecaster common color and design...this is even better-looking Tele compared to John 5's Tele equipped with humbuckers...:)
+Brian York . . . that's right. . . and the same goes for amps. Music stores are blowout outlets because all of the guitars and amps that have the magic have been scooped up by insiders before they can make it to the public.
OK. So the middle pick-up that looks like it's taped on there is part of the Custom Shop design deal or no...? Either way, I find this extraordinarily funny! Custom Shop duct tape is a whole new concept for me!!
None of those pickups came from the custom shop. Fender made 2 of these in the late 90s (one natural and one cherry burst'ish) and they had fender WRHBs and a Duncan p90 in the middle. Then in like 2002/3 or somewhere around there they made this black one with the WRHBs and a Duncan p90 in the middle. Then like 2006-7 or so, his tech took out the WRHBs and put in the Wilde (Bill and Becky Lawrences) in the neck and bridge and had nice trim rings made for it so it looked really seamless. Then, much more recently, like within the last year I'd guess, they put another L-500 from the Lawrences in the middle, but must have hacked it in there, especially since it was a P90 route, and it looks sloppier now, but none of those pickups were done when the guitar was built.
Cory Hollenhorst Thanks, Cory. That update is very much appreciated! Due to the nature and limitations of the rig run-down, it's easy to see how some of the finer points are passed-by. Rock On...
These genius players can be so dam nice and humble...so refreshing!!
Im proud to say Jonny is a friend
Jonny is such an under rated guitar player.
A very humble guy that Jonny. His tech is someone who cares about his work and the guy he is working for...great RR!
I liked that you guys have now given a mic to each artist or tech. Much easier to hear and much easier for your hosts too, I'm sure.
this tech is the coolest guy ever idk he just looks so nice and hes really helpful like he really wants to show whats going on behind the scenes
Nothing fake in that chain. Love it
Jonny Lang has SUCH a great touch on the guitar. Definitely a talent from early on
The top on that Les Paul is PERFECT ! Subtle, but stunning.
Thanks PG for finally getting an HD camera and doing away with the hand-held mics. Much better videos!!!
Nice to see an in-depth rundown of Jonny's stuff. Nice to see he's as straightforward as he seems.
both Jonny Lang and Warren Tremini are great guys i love both of em! oh and nice intro from Jonny there, he's a great guy
Name dropper! Albert Collins and Tab Benoit, two of the blusiest Tele masters. Tab is still touring and making great music.
Premier Guitar's Rig Run Downs are the best thing on line. I really liked hearing Johnny play guitar on it. Beautifully shot and very informative.
John was super mellowed out in this episode - nicely done!
Still one of my favorite rig rundowns 👌👌👌
The picks are Dunlop Gators. Those are the second thickest ones they make. They're pretty much bass picks.
Jonny and his tech seem like super cool guys.
That tech is an awesome guy. Excited, professional, informative and really nice.
Warren is one of the better techs i've seen, along with the techs for...
Bring Me The Horizon's Lee Malia
Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson
Queen's Brian May
Tedeschi Trucks Band's Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi
Journey's Neal Schon
Toto's Steve Lukather
Hunter Hayes
Korn's James Schaffer, Brian Welch and Reginald Arvizu
Yeah Yeah Yeah's Nick Zinner
Soundgarten's Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd and the late rhythm guitarist Chris Cornell
Yes' late bassist Chris Squier
Lamb Of God's Mark Morton, Willie Adler and John Campbell
Slayer's Gary Holt
Coheed And Cambria's Claudio Sanchez
Fall Out Boy's Joe Trohman, Patrick Stump and Pete Wentz
and many more
I think John Bollinger is a fantastic host - he has a great presence about him.
I totally agree!
Yeah definitely the man
He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Columbia University. ‘He’s an Ivy Leaguer. Super well spoken and he adapts really well to whom he is hosting . Amazing guy. I can’t remember where I read about him, but I was like, I know that dude!
i realize it is kinda off topic but do anybody know a good place to watch newly released tv shows online ?
@Edgar Malik Flixportal :P
Tone for days! Never heard of this guy but I'm so impressed!
I wouldn't have recognized him. He looks so different than the last time I saw him. He seems very humble.
enjoyed the groove tubes aspen pittman reference and the amp portion , "no time based effects on there", cool
Nice job, Mr. Bolinger! Enjoyed this.
I always liked "Ace Ventura". And Johnny Lang. Thanks for "Hippin' me to that dudes".
Loving these new Rig Rundowns. They are shot beautifully and the new guy (forgive me for not knowing his name) is a great host/interviewer for the segment. :)
Johnny Lang still doing his thang. Much love.
Jonny seems like a nice dude same goes for his tech 👍
Agreed. He has stayed humble unlike some others.
Always wondered about that Custom Shop Tele he uses... Thanks Premier Guitar and Jonny Lang :)

damn these rig rundowns with john are gettin sleek, keep it up!
The saddle on the Martin looked to be have special compensation on several strings, did not look stock to me but I've never seen that model up close. Great video, thanks!
Awesome rundown super knowledgeable tech..super impressive

Jonny Lang can return to the D&R Theatre in Aberdeen, WA, and make that "guitar face" as frequently as he wants! He gave us 3,000%. We love him here.
I know this one is old. But I would love to see more bass players gear and set ups and rig run downs
I really like that guitar tech. He seems like he enjoys his job. The fact that they use stock instruments (not talking about that beautiful Tele) makes them even cooler. Most of the time, all the instruments are outa phase, coil split/tapped, Keily mysterious mod, with a wang thang bending the flip chip on the flux orange sprague capacitor.

nice les paul for sure.johnny is a humble cat.respect from new England!
As usual really informative & a great job John!
3 bill Lawrence pickups on that tele whoa !
John Bohlinger is a great demo'er, on these rundowns though not a huge fan. thanks for taking the music out! and also the individual mics are great!
Wow. His tech is REALLY into premier guitar. He couldn't stop cheesing for the camera. Plus the strategically placed magazine.
Awesome! Thank you for this!
I have a Warren Tremini pick from when he first started. Like a fender heavy, white.
Wow! Thanks for this!
Bollinger is really tame in this one. Really mellow
Please do a Foals rig rundown
I like how the tech gives that impromptu hats-off, then has an issue of PG on his bench too. If he's that prepared for a backstage interview, imagine the luxury Lang has with that kind of attention given to his sound/equipment.
Nice, I like Jonny!
Jonny Lang is so underrated
It seems to me Jonny's LP is a 58 Chambered Reissue. He mentioned how light it is AND how it even paled in comparison to many of the other LP's of the day he and others have played.
Jonny didn’t say it paled in comparison he said it was better sounding
no love for those 335s?
Why did the tech have a better "close" than your host did? He could certainly use a bit more polish to make him TV-ready.
"the amp responds in a particularly cool way (sometimes called sag) and the sound just gets warmer, fuller and sweeter" As in power supply sag?
Huh, I was just recently wondering what Lang was up to these days.
this dude keeps it simple
Helpful hint: If you're going to put spam popups all over your video, do your guest the honor of not placing the ads on top of him while he's talking.
Well I like John Bohlinger, he is kind and always smiling.
By the way, i'm also waiting rig rundown of Lee Malia from Bring Me the Horizon
What camera did you shoot this on? Canon 5D? Looks wonderful!
Canon 5D Mark III -- Thanks!
not a fan of the guitar as a whole but that neck looks AMAZING.
Any plans for an Against Me rig rundown?
Hey, is John Lang getting interviewed by Jim Carey?
wild wolf No, Nick Cave
looks like a lightening storm going on in the auditorium.
Diggin' the film vs video. But Holy Depth of Field Batman!!
Erik Z LOL A good one! Needs to work on the Bokeh!en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokeh
Hahahhaa I love that creamy bokeh but damn did they get that nice tele fingerboard all blurred out!
Beautiful tele that came first
John Bollinger is rocking that Duane Eddy haircut....semi Johnny Cash flying ducktail....
Just got my Analogman King of Tone 2 weeks ago and I had the toggle switch and the extra gain added to my pedal. Great tones. Who makes that looper pedal silver thing? Did he mention what brand of inst. cables he uses?
Didn't they do with Mr. Lang before where he is just playing Strats?
So the amps aren't reissue deluxe reverbs then?
I applaud the effort to upgrade the production value. I think the kinks will be ironed out after a while. Right now I think the editing is disorienting. Just as you figure out what you're looking at and *where* it is, the video cuts to a close up shot from an entirely different angle and you lose your bearings.
Ah shit Tab Benoit reference outta the gate!
THAT INTRO! Man that sounds good. I'm trying to mimic it but I can't quite hit it.... Is he in a different tuning?
nickelangelo I would also like to know. Any Lang experts in the house?
JDhomieG the outro was amazing too!
nickelangelo It is standard tuning. I was also hit and learnt how to play that about a year ago.
JB rock on bro
Why is everyone on John's back? This interview was fine; he seemed interested, and was respectful throughout. Neither of the interviewees were particularly outgoing, I think that may have had more to do with any 'awkwardness' sone people may have perceived?!! :P
This guy is to authentic music journalism what Doritos Locos Tacos is to authentic Mexican food.
hahahahahahahahahhaa
What's 'authentic music journalism'? What makes him inauthentic?
your comment makes you sound like an idiot
I really want to know who modded the amps? was it Dumble?
i can't quite understand the tech's last name ??
That is just a gorgeous guitar, looks so unique...different from all these overrated Telecaster common color and design...this is even better-looking Tele compared to John 5's Tele equipped with humbuckers...:)
who's the tool with the hair?
Isn't it nice to know that you pay thousands of dollars and you MIGHT get a good LP.
+Brian York . . . that's right. . . and the same goes for amps. Music stores are blowout outlets because all of the guitars and amps that have the magic have been scooped up by insiders before they can make it to the public.
Seen him. & Kenny Wayne a couple weeks ago, KWS stole the show
Love Jonny Lang... Tab Benoit next, then, PG.?. O:) :D
I like Jonny's hair
Alllllllllrrrrrrrrighty then!
OGG, not another interview with "StudMuffin" Bollinger ...
OK. So the middle pick-up that looks like it's taped on there is part of the Custom Shop design deal or no...? Either way, I find this extraordinarily funny! Custom Shop duct tape is a whole new concept for me!!

Brennan is your biggest fan
Rhythm & blues night Groningen omg
Those picks look like 1.5mm custom Gator Grips
Yes sir, they are.
Woo! .105-.48 FTW!
Joe hottinger from Halestorm please? :D or Dameon Aranda from Aranda?
You're kidding, right?
why? what's wrong?...
Johnny seems to have had an accident with a lawnmower! Legit axe man, though.
Why is bohlinger talking so quiet
I'm pretty sure that those Gator Grips are 1.5mm's? I used to use them. Until I found Jazz III's. lol
how thick are those?
A millimeter and a half. lol
the jazz III's?
Ohhh, I don't even know man. I think I use 1.14's? But they make all different gauges I believe.
yeah ive been using 1.25 and have been trying to find thicker ones but have had no luck
sounds like blues in standard E to me
that's a tele shape, but that ain't no tele son, not with those pickups in it
John "Ace Ventura" Bollinger
No the old Les Pauls are heavy.
Maybe bring the Martin into the bus...
