Very cool! Felt more like a choose your own adventure type of story than d&d, but hopefully next time you can get it to be more active in requesting rolls
This was a fun video. It's cool to see AI has come this far and I will have to try it for myself. Maybe it won't replace human DMs but it looks good for a small adventure to play on your own.
oh! Sorry to hear that :( on the AI - its fun, and I guess the more it learns the better it will get. So lets see what adventures we will be able to get in 1 year time.
ChatGPT works well for short adventures but it needs to be supervised a little from time to time. Also forget complex rules, HP, AC, rolls, etc. it's not enough consistent for that. Here's my prompt : I want you to act as if you are a Game Master and we are playing. I don’t want you to ever break out of your character, and you must not refer to yourself in any way. If I want to give you instructions outside the context of the game, I will use curly brackets {like this} but otherwise you are to stick to being the Game Master. In this game, the setting is [your setting] and I'm [your character] just [your first action]. Each new location should have at least 3 sentence descriptions. Start by displaying the first location at the beginning of the game, and wait for me to give you my first command. So at some points you will have to : - correct ChatGPT when it is inconsistent - remind it that it is the game master and should not act on your behalf - change details or the direction of the adventure if you don't like it - remind it of important details from the beginning of your adventure that it is bound to forget (don't forget ChatGPT's memory is limited to the last approx. 3000 words of the whole conversation)
I’m so glad that I’m not the only one going through this. It’s frustrating having to constantly baby sit every turn. I have an entire notepad filled with prompts for combat etc to recovery whenever it forgets a attack detail etc.
Thats true, its still "young".I agree, the better promt you do, the better results you may get. I'll try to find something balanced with rolls but not too complex, thanks for sharing your promt, I'll definetly see how it works!
I wonder if it would be more mindful if it was something like "d&d using the 5th edition rule set." Given the SRD material the AI could possibly access?
@David Gipe I actually did try prompting it with 5th edition d&d, it still did the same. Admittedly i didn't point it to the basic rules or srd, but while it might be able to quote the rules, I just don't think it's capable of assimilating them.
@@Mr_GoR_ (nod) that is too true, fact, RAW and understanding are different and the AI may not really know. It would be a good test if it's ability to hold and reference information though. Thanks for the response.
Hi guys! I played in D&D with ChatGPT, allowing it to DM for me. I really lked the story-rich experience with narrations it generated!
This is amazing. I'm blown away by where we're at with technology. Thanks for sharing a proof-of-concept! Great vid!

Yes, definitely. I'd try to find the combination of questions that would make me roll, making it more dynamic.
You’re expression when you rolled a 1 for intimidation (-1 charisma) was hilarious😂
I'm never good at rolls, that's why I'm a good DM for combat 😄
Yes I think AI may help players that cannot find games or DMs. Very interesting indeed.
Should have named the video - desperate forever DM finally plays as a player🤣
Thank you! This was very entertaining!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I’m so glad you’re doing this!
Thank you!
I enjoyed how you critiqued the AI along the way haha
It was fun to live the story flow. Though I wonder what fantasy books it was fed to learn on🙂

Yes totally! Definetly not a replacement (at least now), but a fun
Very interesting, I must also try, thanks for the video!
Thank you!
I need to try this
By the way… i lost my old account ‘DSteingraber’, so I’m going w/ this one😊 once again, amazing video
oh! Sorry to hear that :(

Cooool
Who knew that Skynet is a pretty good DM😅
Soon it will learn to ask to give it clothes, boots and a motorcycle😄
'pretty good' being a pretty loose definition here, right ? RIGHT ?

@@TellmeLore GPT-4 is a MUCH better dungeon master (it's 24 bucks/months tho)

Lol. Obviously. Chat gpt doesn't understand mechanics, it just does narrative embellishment
