Restoring your DMT Diamond Whetstone

- after a lot of use these very expensive diamond stones need looking after if its not going to cost us a lot of money replacing them, so in this video i will very quickly go through what i do to look after my diamonds
I tried using dish soap without much luck but then I used a dry plane blade without the normal window cleaner I normally use as lapping fluid and it worked wonders, no problem with the blade nor did the powered steel get caught up on the stone, I found I could blow the powered steel away. Now my diamond stones cut as they did when I first got them and they are clean as a whistle. No more lapping fluid (window cleaner) for me, every 1 minute give it a blow and they are good to go. This worked on all my stones, cause, median, and fine.....give this a like if it works for you.
Use dish soap and water when you're sharpening. You don't get build up and it keeps metal particles/dust from floating around so you don't breath them in.

nice video. just got a duo sharp stone from DMT. Use it for kitchen knives so it may not need cleaning as often but thanks for a good video

My DMT Dia-sharp 120 is completely worn out after less than a years infrequent use. Bit disappointed. I can see (using a magnifier) craters in the surface where the extra coarse diamonds once were. Just in case anyone out there is thinking of investing a not inconsiderable sum of money in these. DMT's customer service suggested cleaning but that is 100% not the issue.

Thanks for you video! For breaking in a new diamond stone, do you recommend lapping it with fine grits or sandpaper ? If so, which grit compare to the stone?

So what is that cleaner? I have a DMT as well and need to know to keep it in top shape. Pretty expensive too.
Hi Robert it just says cleaning powder on the jar and it's in kit form when you buy it I get it from APTC just Google for there details if you need

This is some funny stuff here. Next video, restore your stone with an angle grinder, Ha Ha Ha. Somehow, that coarse metal brush looks like it destroys surfaces, not "renew" them, whatever the hell that means. Ha Ha Ha.
Its a brush made for the job by the makers of the stone but i guess they may not be as wise as you
Diamond is waaaaay harder than brass. I actually use a brass wheel with an angle grinder.
