    I didn’t get a bad deal at a brick and mortar store. Spent $7200 on a ring and got it appraised for $9500 so definitely not a bad deal and a win for me! Great to see the investment already paying off!

      Thanks for commenting. Appraisals have zero to do with real value. Typically your ring gets appraised for double the price. Appraisels are only for insurance and "making the client feel good".Then the insurance company sells you a policy based on an inflated price. Then when you lose, insurance has the right to replace and not cut you a check. SO they replace it on a wholesale cost of 3200. Not the 9500 premium you pay for.

      It’s probably a 2-3K ring you paid a large markup for.
      Also, appraiser value is not market value. If you sold your ring you may get $800 for it.
      Don’t believe me? Try to sell it to a few Jewelers and see the most they will give you.

    hey mate great video 1 question . hope you can answer this . when looking for diamonds on james allen and you get the pictures of the diamonds from top down. you can see all these different shapes and black patches etc(essentially some are what the hearts and arrows are) but even at times when choosing true hearts you get some for the lack of the better term messiness. how critical or how do you read this? i hope my question makes sense thanks

    • @OsirisDiamonds
      @OsirisDiamonds  4 роки тому +2

      Hello and thanks for the comment. Technically they are both graded using science to test brilliance. True Hearts uses AGS and blue nile uses GEMEX. Both grade the brilliance of the stone with science so I want to say they are about equal. AGS does the 4 C's and brilliance versus Gemex only does Brilliance so its usually accompanied with a GIA cert. I always advise to see what both sites offer and compare. I might give a slight edge to True Hearts. Email me infodiamondcity@gmail.com if you wish for me to help you weed thru the stones and give my opinion on my findings on both sites. Thanks

Clarity depends on whats eye clean but you want to start SI1 and see if its eye clean. Free of any large inclusions on the center table.

    Hi, I’ve selected a lab created 1.03 carat cushion, (James Ellen SKU 11284458) E color, VVS2, idea cut, Excellent polish and Symm, none flour, L/W 6.02x5.91, L/W ratio 1.02 (thanks for the tips 🙂) I was trying to find a diamond with as much clarity and no visible inclusions for that price range or less. Is this a good choice? Any recommendations?

    Hi Guy great tips, I just received pricing for JannPaul's Decagon 10 Hearts and Arrows (111 facet) stones. They are sorta pricey but right in line with JamesAllen's True Heart's cut's. Is this cut worth investing in, in your opinion? They have very tight parameter's for grading as you are probably are aware. Curious of your thoughts!

    Hi, I am planning to buy my ring on James Allen and your videos have been really insightful. Question: What is the difference between an Ideal cut and a super ideal cut? I have heard about super ideal cuts on other channels but I see that James Allen only offers the ideal cut. Thanks!

    • @OsirisDiamonds
      @OsirisDiamonds  3 роки тому

      Thank you so much Shawa for the comment. Super ideal is typically marketing talk for the most part. Gia has excellent cut. Thats it. Some companies have a hand selected diamonds that they apply extra testing to that may come with a AGS cert. Or I believe true hearts diamonds come with AGS or Aset cert which they add a premium price too.

    Hi Osiris! I’ve become increasingly interested in gemology and want to take some courses in it, maybe become an appraiser myself. I know GIA is the standard of excellence, but I want to get my feet wet before moving to New York or paying $20,000… The problem is that there are so many online courses available that I have no idea which one to do to get my foot in the door. I’m working seasonal at a jewelry company, but they’re so small they don’t have an appraiser of their own… any advice would be fantastic, thanks!

    Is the True Hearts and Astor settings on the James Allen and Blue Nile sites worth the additional cost versus simply selecting Ideal ?

    • @OsirisDiamonds
      @OsirisDiamonds  3 роки тому

      The diamond game is one of slights. A more perfect cut has a price tag associated with it. Its situational. Sometimes you find a perfect ideal cut that's not true hearts or astor. The top tier comes with extra certification validating the cut score which is where part of the price jump happenes. Sometimes its a massive premium and in that case dont feel comfortable with. SOmetimes its just a little more. Consider it like going a higher color or clarity. Sometimes its not distinguishable. Another thing to consider. If GIA gives you an excellent cut grade, that doesn't mean it's absolute. There are big differences between a regular excellent cut and a true ideal excellent cut. Sorry if that may confuse you more.

    • @OsirisDiamonds
      @OsirisDiamonds  4 роки тому

      Just saw this I am sorry for late reply. Its tough to say. Most times, earrings and tennis bracelets are in that range. H-I color works, I1 clarity isnt ideal but is what you often see to make these pieces affordable. Often times the diamonds are smaller so its hard to see those imperfections. I would eye it and see if you can see visible issues with the diamonds with your eyes. If your cant, then your good. Reality is price is a big factor. The jump to SI quality will surely go up in 2,000 price point.

      Hello, Ovals are beautiful diamonds. GIA doesn't officially give them a cut grade. You have to be careful in filtering out the proper %'s. Here is my ideal settings already filtered for you. www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/all-diamonds/?Color=I,H,G,F,E,D&Shape=oval-cut&Polish=EX,VG&Symmetry=EX,VG&Lab=GIA,AGS&Flour=None,Faint,Medium&DepthTo=63&TableTo=62?a_aid=5a73fd85d5e0d

      You can also opt for a gemstone or even a white sapphire. I work for a jewelry company and while yes you can save money with a lab created diamond...the truth is I think they are still too expensive for what they are. Diamonds and gemstones took thousands/millions of years to be made, and very specific conditions...that’s what you’re paying for, the rarity. If its man made, might as well go with a Cubic zirconia.
