    Thanks a lot for covering Dark Envoy! Happy that you seem to be enjoying our little experiment with this kind of dynamic gameplay. We'll boost native aggro generation too; later on you get lots of skills and items+enchants for that, but early it is a problem as you experienced. + a small tip - you can use any equippment on any class. Melee adept-tank is an option as well as staff wielding warrior tank.

    I mean there exists room for a lot of reasons, not the leeast is setting. If someone isn't interested in high fantasy like BG3 then they'd probably NOT agree that it's the greatest RPG and or not be interested in other RPGS. So I dunno my dude I think there's tons of reasons to try and showcase anything you want.

      @@MarkDeSade100unfortunately i don't remember a whole lot. However i do recall that it was quite a dark plot. And there was some racism and other everyday (irl) madness going around. @@danyael777There's some very clever writing in the game that equates orcs with the plight of black people in a post-slavery European society, where they are still being exploited as second class citizens. That's probably what you're thinking of with the racism. I wouldn't say the plot is particularly dark, of course there is some death and mayhem but it's no Witcher 3.

    Great comparison to Aarklash legacy, it was a very good RPG that basically was all about one thing, combat. More of those better than walls upon walls of text. Also, this is the team that is responsible for Tower of Time, which is so underrated especially for its story. Have been waiting for this for 2 yrs.

    I don't think BG3 causes any issue to other TB or RTwP RPGs. If anything it warmed new players to this kind of game. A small, niche game will not go to to toe with a AAA behemoth, but I'll just play both if this is good enough, and it's looking good so far.

    You should continue to support indie roleplaying games and indie games in general because once upon a time Larian studio also was one of those studios.
    Without supporting games such as Divine Divinity (fucking awesome, by the way) games like Divinity: Original Sin 1-2 would've never existed and without those, Larian Studio would've probably never gotten the opportunity to create Baldur's Gate 3.

    Good point on Larian/playing other games. I'd argue that there's even a simpler reason: fun. One should not be forced to justify having fun with some game, just because it's "objectively" (as far as you can say that with art) worse than another. Same goes for every other piece of media and art. There is so much stuff out there that everyone can enjoy whatever they want.

  • @0num4

    Nice little RPG here. You've made a great point about smaller studios flourishing into larger ones, but only if given time and chances to iterate and learn. No dev is going to bust out BG3 with their first release--though they might do Risk of Rain (literally made on GameMaker 32-bit at first), which begets RoR2, etc.
    In short: support smaller devs who are trying their best, even if their games are not perfect. That's where the real imagination and creativity in gaming comes from--not AAA studios owned by megacorporations such as Sony and Ubisoft

    Not everything needs to be The Latest Big Hot Thing, there is plenty of room for smaller efforts and differing viewpoints, even when TLBHT actually IS as amazing as BG3. Other than the aggro control issues Splatty pointed out, this looks like one of those 'lesser' efforts that are still worth looking at carefully.

    • @Muenni
      @Muenni 11 місяців тому

      Making aggro easily controllable doesn't sound like a good thing to me though. If you can have your tank just eat it all with no threat to your dps guy, won't fights become way too repetitive? The way it is now, it looked like depending on the skills of the enemies, you have to maneuver your guys differently. Plus, balance your builds somewhat. That sounds more interesting to me, at least in theory.

    its nice to finally see a real time top down rpg, i cannot stand turn based anything, aside from total war because at least the action part is real time. the market for games nowadays is so ridiculously over saturated with turn based everything and i have found that alot of them could have been real time, and it seems like turn base now is just what lazy devs make when they dont want to actually balance a combat system, so so many games i would play if they were real time,

    • @CrazyxEnigma
      @CrazyxEnigma 11 місяців тому +2

      Turn based is more popular these days. Pillars of Eternity 2 and Pathfinder Kingmaker got a turned based mode patched in by popular demand. I'm not into RTS but in RPGs RTwP is pretty much dead outside of this game as far as I know of, I think it is a fad though twenty years ago turn based was seen as archaic and dated when Diablo and RTS popularity was at its peak it'll eventually come back into demand again just not as soon as you or others might like.

    I remember people saying that KoTOR was the pinnacle of the RPG genre, so why get anything else... that was in 2003...
    KoTOR is still inarguably a good game, and if it got a graphics, UI, and QoL update it would be obvious that it is still a good game, but is it the best thing since sliced bread? Debatable.
    I like your perspective, that fostering new developers with different ways of thinking is imperative to keep the industry moving forward. It is really just a continuation of your focus on Indie games in a way. Like you, I've gotten frustrated with the AAA market pumping out 6 clones of the same "Action-Adventure-Survival-Crafting-RPG-FPS with extra mini-game and quick-time events included"... game. The only way to break that profit-motivated cycle is to advocate for new sources of content. It is why I've largely given up on series like Assassin's Creed and shooter games in general.

That game though still had stuff where was chaotic but feel that the engagement mechanic helped with that a bit and would still have enemies that specialized in getting to your backline especially annoying units like spirits that could teleport itself and units.

    The combination of tech and magic remembers me about Silverfall. That was an ambitious game that really suffered from bad programming though. And a bit of Dragon Age and Original Sin. But most, the artwork and engine remember me about Tower Of Time, a game I quite enjoyed. It was a solid rpg. Maybe its the same devs. I'm really not into micromanagement though. I'm more of the lazy kind. When I come home from work, I rather play to relax. Maybe the devs will implement more automatisms, and a lower difficulty grade too, then I'd consider it too, because all other things are highly appealing to me as a mainly rpg player.

    Oh looks good! Reminds me of the times of Rage of Mages and Evil Islands. Tactical rpgs with brutal combat\stealth as main focus. I miss that times when it was a norm and you was expecting at least some games in this genre now and then. I love how far gaming industry progressed since then, but we really need some comeback to formulas where GAMEPLAY is main attraction.

    6:05 Sacred 2 - best song/video/intro scene ever in a game, imo! I just searched it and watched it again... as awesome as I remembered. Even the great BG3 music and animations can't touch the greatness of that Sacred 2 intro vibe.

    Had this game on my radar since the first time you showcased it on this channel Splat.
    And yes while BG3 is amazing, you dont want to play super indepth overly complicated game all the time. Simpler, more on point less thinking RPGs absolutely have their value.
    I like the siblings dynamic in this game, hope both thier personalities are likeable and they mesh well. The setting itself reminds me a of Arcanum. Hope this game keeps growing better and better, it looks promising.

    Arklash Legacy is very underrated! You can heal monsters and kill your allies if you miss with your spells!

    Having seen an interview or two from the head dev for Dead Space talk about the game, he is definitely very good at game development and figuring out how to get a particular design element to work in a game and feel good for the player.
