Nils Svanstedt Jayztwocents did a video on how to optimize your PC for flight sim with software, because with a 2080 ti he was only getting 30-40 FPS. With optimizations on software he was able to get 58-60fps, and the same frame rate on a 2060. It’s not a matter of gpu horsepower, it’s a matter of poor CPU optimization as it tries to peg just a couple cores instead of spreading load.

My PC cost £800, and I can only play csgo at 240+fps. Every other game doesn't get close, yes even minecraft, I play that at around 100 fps, and this is with Optifine.

Ideally, you want dE (essentially the difference between the actual color and the color shown on the monitor) as close to 0 as possible. An average person won't be able to notice a difference in color with dE around 3, and with dE below 1, not even the most sensitive people should be able to tell the difference. So average dE of 0.85 and maximum dE of 1.88 is indeed very good. Though it has to be said it's also kinda pointless in a way, because no two monitors will be alike, and the colors also drift over time. So while this shows a very good baseline, anyone who cares about color accuracy will still need to calibrate the monitor regularly, just like any other monitor.

Personally, I think monitor manufacturers should focus more on making the already ridiculous refresh rates (i.e. 100hz+) more clear and color accurate as possible rather than trying to simply push more frames. What's the point of going over 120hz if the image turns into a blurry indistinguishable mess?
These monitors (240 hz, 360 hz) are usually made for esport players who can actually benefit from a higher refresh rate but don't really care about colors as long as they can see the targets clear. As for the blurriness, it's just not true. Most high refresh rate monitors have very little ghosting and blur, and it's always been about pushing the boundaries of technology. And just because it exists, doesn't mean you have to buy it. Again, it's not for everyone.
Except you can clearly see the difference in something running 30fps, 60fps, and 144fps. Anything beyond that gets iffy but you can definitely notice the change.

The "Screen Door" effect for 1080p becomes very apparent past 27 inches (81 PPI). 1440p at 27 inches is 108 PPI which makes it hard to make out individual pixels unlike 1080p at that monitor size. Also, high settings in games doesn't look that different from ultra settings. Keep in mind that textures and shadows are just images files thrown onto objects so PPI applies there as well. High settings in games is good enough PPI so basically: 1440p High settings > 1080p Ultra settings. Edit: For competitive titles like online FPS games low settings is the norm and 1440p makes it easier to spot enemy heads and such.

Definitely. I have a 240Hz monitor, and while it's possible to notice 240 being better than 144 if you're making your best effort to notice it... during regular gameplay I would never notice any difference. 60Hz is unplayable and easily noticeable in regular gameplay for me, it's painful to use at this point... but the fact is that 144 is plenty. Going above 144Hz is almost like watching videos above 4K. I'm sure you can notice it if you try hard enough and put your face next to the screen, but it's just offers no real world benefits.

Me having no idea what the color accuracy numbers mean: “Oh wow look at that.”
Ideally, you want dE (essentially the difference between the actual color and the color shown on the monitor) as close to 0 as possible. An average person won't be able to notice a difference in color with dE around 3, and with dE below 1, not even the most sensitive people should be able to tell the difference. So average dE of 0.85 and maximum dE of 1.88 is indeed very good.
Though it has to be said it's also kinda pointless in a way, because no two monitors will be alike, and the colors also drift over time. So while this shows a very good baseline, anyone who cares about color accuracy will still need to calibrate the monitor regularly, just like any other monitor.

Maybe its like those people that think they can listen to a subsonic recording on a cassette tape and quit smoking. The brain does not care about any subsonic tones of human speech, and even if it did youre not gonna capture and play it back on a cassette tape which doesnt cover the full audible spectrum anyway

Personally, I think monitor manufacturers should focus more on making the already ridiculous refresh rates (i.e. 100hz+) more clear and color accurate as possible rather than trying to simply push more frames. What's the point of going over 120hz if the image turns into a blurry indistinguishable mess?

These monitors (240 hz, 360 hz) are usually made for esport players who can actually benefit from a higher refresh rate but don't really care about colors as long as they can see the targets clear. As for the blurriness, it's just not true. Most high refresh rate monitors have very little ghosting and blur, and it's always been about pushing the boundaries of technology. And just because it exists, doesn't mean you have to buy it. Again, it's not for everyone.

@@myst4351 How do you define overkill? The "Screen Door" effect for 1080p becomes very apparent past 27 inches (81 PPI). 1440p at 27 inches is 108 PPI which makes it hard to make out individual pixels unlike 1080p at that monitor size.
Also, high settings in games doesn't look that different from ultra settings. Keep in mind that textures and shadows are just images files thrown onto objects so PPI applies there as well. High settings in games is good enough PPI so basically:
1440p High settings > 1080p Ultra settings.
Edit: For competitive titles like online FPS games low settings is the norm and 1440p makes it easier to spot enemy heads and such.

Definitely. I have a 240Hz monitor, and while it's possible to notice 240 being better than 144 if you're making your best effort to notice it... during regular gameplay I would never notice any difference. 60Hz is unplayable and easily noticeable in regular gameplay for me, it's painful to use at this point... but the fact is that 144 is plenty.
Going above 144Hz is almost like watching videos above 4K. I'm sure you can notice it if you try hard enough and put your face next to the screen, but it's just offers no real world benefits.

I have this monitor and a 3070ti and it might just be the fact that I play roblox most of the time (Roblox has fps locked at 60 fps) But I don't really notice the difference between the monitor I had before (which was 144 Hz) and my new monitor! (Also I don't just play roblox, but I play it a lot)
