I just can’t tell you how thrilled I am for you to be back to running on trails and talking about these shoes! Am SUPER curious if you are going to review the new Inov-8 TrailFlys since you loved the TerraUltra so much. They’re super heavy but Seth, you’ve never ran in a shoe like it. They’re NUTS! Keep it up fam, 3 months until PPM!
I love my Altra Lone Peaks, they are like Goldilocks because they have just the right amount of midsole for me. I feel grounded and yet protected and the zero drop helps me with being balanced and nimble over technical terrain. Been waiting for you Seth to find the Lone Peaks and review them for a while. I will definitely be buying the new Riviera to be my new road shoe as I have about 1140km's on my Escalante's
Gonna be Seth’s hype man real quick. Seth’s sincerity and attitude is a huge inspiration to me. I was in a covid funk and decided to RUN EVERYDAY and share my journey on UA-cam. Much love everyone. ❤️💪🏻🏃♂️
Before I even watch the video i gotta say that i have been waiting forever for you to make the review on this guy. If you do have a chance, would love to hear you on Altra Escalantd Racer.
I really liked the escalate racer 19 and had it for over 650 miles. They are super light and responsive, so good for going fast, but can beat up the feet pretty good on a lsr The upper is not really structured at all but I felt it locked down pretty good
The Altra Timp 2's are my favorites, I'm running a 50 miler tomorrow in them! Generally just love Altra, have bought 10 pairs over the last 2 years lol 😆
Olympus! I know they are over 10oz but I think they feel light overall. For me nothing beats the roomy toe box when my feet swell up during a long ultra!
Yeah, I love Seth, but these shoes are not built for his preferences in shoes. Not sure why you’d even review a shoe if you know they aren’t going to work for you
QD: I have already purchased an Altra shoe in 2021. I bought the Altra Escalante Racer. I have been using Altra for a few years now. I have a narrow heal and a wide forefoot. I find the shape fits my foot the best. Alot of shoe brands make my feet hurt. Too many years in custom fitted ski boots I guess... I also like the zero drop as I find the extra height under my heal intrusive. I bought the Escalante Racer to replace the Escalante 2.0 that I had been using. Unlike many Escalante fans, I liked the 2.0 because I found it more responsive. When I tried the Escalante 2.5 I found it had lost that responsiveness and felt more like the earlier versions of the Escalante that I did not purchase for that reason. When I tried the Escalante racer, it was more what I was looking for. I have been enjoying it so far. As for Altra trail shoes, I have the Superior 4.0. I got it last summer as that was what was avaialbe at my local running store. I am not sure if they even have the Superior 4.5 yet. I like it because it is light weight and nimble. I tried the Lone Peak 4.5 at the time and it was more shoe than what I wanted. I am not likely to replace the Superior 4.0 this year because the milage is still relatively low on them. Hard to put in a ton of miles when you can only get out to the mountain trails once a week in summer and early fall.
I have the Lone Peak 5 in the yellow colorway and I love them. the foot shape/toe box is one of my favorite things about them. And the outsole is so great that I use them for both hiking and trail running here in the mountains of Utah.
I saw you commented on how great the name is for the Lone Peak! You should come out to the Wasatch and run the real Lone Peak! All of Altras trail shoes are named after my home mountain range! I live in the shadow of Olympus.. Timp is one of the most beautiful peaks out there. lone peak is a beast!
I love Altra and especially the Lone Peak line and the Torins. In my experience, most Altras need to go a half size down. After getting my fit dialed in, I think the shoes along with proper stretching worked out what could have been some serious foot issues for me. Aside from my first ultra when I was a total newbie (I ran a trail 50 miler in Brooks Launches), I have used the Lone Peaks for ultras.
I am very glad to report I am a new member of the Altra Community with my first pair being the Torin 4.5 plush, after my first run immediately started looking into the trail lineup and just purchased the Lone Peak 5, My feet are in love with Altra ✌🏼Great work on this channel Seth! 👍🏻
My fav is the Superior series. Just super light and comfortable...LOTS of toe space which I love. I did just pick up the Lone Peak 5, my first lone peak, and I do really like it too so far.
Love the honks! Altra fan boy checking in. My favorite altra was the lone peak 3.5. Since then they have really thinned out the soles and they just don't last as long. Currently running in LP 5.0 and plan to pick up some Olympus as soon as I can. But I also don't ever expect my altras to be good after 400 miles, sometimes 350 and done. Love the review and can't wait for more. And a classic vs new Nike runoff woukd be awesome!
Seth, I'm an English trail / ultra runner living in Tirol, Austria...and just jumped out of my seat when you announced that you are doing Hochkönigman! I was always wondering when / if you would get over here. That race is unfortunately not on my calender because we are expecting our second child to be born right around that date. Would have loved to have raced against you. I hope very much that you come to Tirol again another time! We have some great trails here, enjoy! ✌️🏃♂️
QD: I am super excited to have found Altra! I have wide feet, and nothing fits me properly. I got a pair of Lone Peak 4.5’s and fell in love. I have had them for 3 months, and have already put 77 miles on them. My next shoe is going to be the Olympus, or the Torin!
Massive Altra fan, just bought timp 3s to combo my Olympus 5 for a 47 mile trail race called the Lap in Cumbria! Cannot wait for your thoughts on the Timps Seth
Lone peak for the trail shoe ! Amazingly balanced and natural feeling shoe. For the road I love the escalate, even have the racer iterations for speedier days. Light, snappy, zero drop amazing ! Think I'll be staying with zero drop for a long time !
Hi James! Bit of a weird question - which of these would do best on wet conditions on the road, and which do you think will be better for climbing in? Do you think they will hold up on metal and not slip, I'm a free climber so torn between the lone peak and escalante racer specifically for climbing and concrete walking/running. I come from wearing exclusively vivo barefoots. Many many thanks for the response!!
Okay so my take on the LP5's from someone with a VERY different foot than Seth. Size 12.5/very high instep/very high foot VOLUME (meaning the height from the bottom of my foot to the top of the arch is a lot). I struggle with a lot of shoes because they tend to feel like there is way too much pressure on the top of my feet, specifically bothering the 1st/2nd metatarsals. For anyone with a similar issue, you may find the LP5 is a really good option! It doesn't put a ton of pressure (which is probably what led to the lower lockdown score) but that is a huge plus for me! Also, even though I have a high instep, I really prefer neutral shoes, and don't like having a ton of arch support, preferring some space between the shoe and my arch. All this to say, the LP5 really nails it for these reasons, and that new AltraEgo foam is way more cushioned and lovely than I expected. I put shoes on people for a living, and we are a trail running town, so I've seen a lot of folks end up in this shoe, so I'm stoked to see your review, Seth!
I'm a huge Altra fanboy and ill be putting hundreds of miles onto the Rivera. My PF is getting a lot better but that's partially because I've been running in Topo Athletic Phantoms. Topos are a good alternative for Altras because they are 0-5mm drop shoes with a rounded toe box. The Phantoms really helped with PF and I was even able to do a 22 mile long run. Ill be using Altra riveras and tips, but this is the year that I try more Topo models!!
Hi Daniel, are the Topos wider around the metatarsals (the knuckles of the feet)? That's where my feet are wider and I found that Altras are still narrow in that area. May consider Topos in the future.
Hi Donald. Altras are "foot shaped" but they all fit a bit differemt. The escalante has a lot more toe box room than the Rivera. I've tried 3 topos so far and they all have a fit that's closer to the Rivera where its "foot shaped" but doesn't have the amount of space that the escalate has. You might like the escalante if you haven't tried it. It might seem like a low stack height but the ego midsole feels great and makes it feel very well cushioned.
Only just hit 50 miles in my Lone Peak 5's, but we'll over 100 mikes in my Altra Superior 4.5's, which have to be possibly the most comfortable trail shoes I've ever worn. To the point that I'm going to buy another pair in a month or two. Tread is good for most trail stuff, but it transitions to pavement well when you need to, because the tread isn't the most 'aggressive'
I actually just bought an altra shoe last week. I got the torin 4 plush because seth recommended this shoe for walking around in a vlog a couple months ago, and ever since then I have wanted to try it out. So I bought it, and I really enjoy this shoe. Thank seth for recommending this as I can see myself using this shoe for a long time
I've been running the Altra King Mt 1.5s out here on the dry trails of the Sierra Nevada mountains in southern Spain. Bought them on sale because I wanted to try out a 0 drop more minimalist shoe and was super impressed with how comfortable they were. I didn't realise how annoying/painful running in shoes that squash my toes together was until I tried these. They're now my go to shoes for trail runs and hiking.
I will probably buy some Lone Peak 5’s. I am now running trails with the Timp 2’s, but they don’t grip the mud as well. The Timps are great for the more buffed out rail trails we have here (dirt plus compressed gravel). Ive been wearing Altra’s for several years now and my feet feel great in them before and after my running. I do tend to prefer shoes that are not very snug or tight.
Finally some trail footage and the full review of the Lone Peak 5.0! I went half size down and sent back the other pair. I also managed to get the Altra King MT 2.0, I heard it won't continue to be produced. Also half size down. What a grippy experience and super drainage system, special heel collar material to prevent slipping and more prominent lugs. I also love the Olympus 4 for longer runs. Went true to size (maybe good for swelling at ultra races) but it is definitely possible to go a half size down. QD: Maybe I will get the Timp a few months from now, or even the Superior 4.5. Never tried an Altra road shoe. GREETINGS FROM SALZBURG/AUSTRIA!!!
Back at the end of april when you posted this video I was watching it thinking I‘ll never buy a pair of Altra or any other zero-drop running shoes just because I was in another headspace back then. The last couple of months since than I‘ve developed a different view on things like running and this morning (it‘s morning here in austria at the moment😉) I ordered a pair of Altra Lone Peak 5. With any running shoe I buy after doing my own research and building my own opinion on it before purchase I check for a video of yours and hope you‘ve tested it so I can get your opinion as well. Love your videos. They help me a lot🙏🏽
QOD: I plan to buy Escalante 2 or 2,5. My current Escalante 1,5 is doing great, way past 2000k and only minor holes inside in the heel area. I also love Ego midsole, soft enough for me. I own Lone Peaks 4, I can confirm that the upper is loose and in addition - not too durable, falling apart sooner than expected
Get the Escalante 2.5. It’s quite similar to the 1 and 1.5, sock like upper and very similar midsole feel. The 2.0 was a weird aberration where it has much thicker upper (which makes the shoe quite a bit heavier) and the midsole is quite a bit stiffer.
I actually wear the Lone Peak 5s to work, the uppers are water resistant and does not get immediately soaked, and since its a trail shoe I don’t slip on the shop floor without having to wear work boots everyday. This is a great “commuter” shoe 😅 where I’ll go for a run on some local dirt roads after work. The zero drop is great for walking all day on the job and running for me.
I used to be a big Altra fan with way over 10000 km logged, but I think they found their niche and stopped developing some years ago, missing probably the biggest technological leap in the last decades. Now they are mainly suitable for easy runs and no competition to the best performance shoes on the market.
@suspicionofdeceit for starters their foam is the same they used 5 years ago and that is the reason they come with firm low stack shoes that weight more than a Saucony Endorphine.
Hey, Ian?! Great idea! '80's in Boulder, CO: We used to log significant k's in Tiger ONITSUKA's and then go ROCK CLIMBING in them, like for real technical climbing in Eldorado, etc. Talk about a 'versatile daily trainer' (with zero drop and barely any midsole!)!!! Seth: you'd TOTALLY like (i think) the mind-blowing traction of Altra's King Trail; talk about LOCK DOWN? it features a velcro strap over the navicular area! don't know if i'll need to replace my King Mt's ... but i sure would if needed! LOVE THEM! head bowed,
I really like the feel of Altra, but I struggle with insertional Achilles tendinitis and it starts hurting after just walking around in a pair of Altra shoes. I’ve tried two this year - the Torrin 4.5 and the Provision 4.0. I ran 1 mile in the torrin and knew I had to return them. I only walked around the house for a couple of hours in the provision and my heel/Achilles hurt for three days. Meanwhile I can run for hours in an 8-10mm drop shoe and have zero pain. I’ve tried strengthening my calves and feet over the years, but it’s never enough to go zero drop. Oh well, I guess the rest of you will have to enjoy the Altras for me.
It's great to see you in the trails again Seth! QD: I have a 70km mountain trail race coming up in August and I'm considering the Altra Timp 2. I've never run in zero drop before so I'm wavering between Speedgoat 4 and Timp 2
love the Altra lone peak, have the 4.5 version (I think) but for me the sauconey peregrine still my fave. I'll be experimenting with both to see which takes me through 50k this fall.
I got the Lone Peaks 4.5 and I love them, then the Escalante 2.0. Both of them are my favorite shoes to run in. It’s great that Seth is trying new altra shoes! Looking forward for an Olympus review or the Escalante racer
QD. I don’t need any Altra, as I still have a fresh pair of my favourite zero drop trail shoes in the box. New Balance MT110 are an absolute dream to run in! So rocking my first pair and I’m 600 miles in them, that’s a 10 year old shoe!!
I’m a 6’8” 215lb runner and just bought the paradigm for easy runs and they are fantastic. The zero drop with the responsive cushion is impressive. Went through the 4.5 Torin’s very quickly so I may buy the 5 I just hope they are built to last a little longer...
This is the shoe for all the people who can't fit into Salomon (even wide variation of Salomon is very narrow) or Adidas. It's the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn.
"Who plans to buy an Altra shoe in 2021?" In February 2021, I purchased the Paradigm 4.5. In July 2021, I purchased the Torin 4.5 Plush. This month or next, I'll either be purchasing the Altra Timp or Lone Peak, depending on how much cushion I want in my ride on the trails. So yeah, this will be my 3rd Altra purchase in 2021.
Loooovvveeee these shoes! Love Altra!! Currently trying the timp, takes a long time to break in imo, but I got a feeling this is gonna be winner once it does.
I like that color-way, the yellow ones like Kofuzi is running in are also nice. Unfortunately there are only dad colors for the European market (in my size). My personal question of the day: why is it that stuff in the states is always slightly cooler than stuff in Europe? I usually don't bother but here I feel I do need a nice color to make up for the awkwardly shaped toebox.
I have been running in the torins for a couple years and I feel they are the best for me. I got some lone peaks last year and just couldn’t really get behind them for trail running. To use your words, maybe too loosely goosey especially on steep descents. Also I can feel every rock on the trails. That being said they are my favorite hiking shoes! I’d hike all day in the lone peaks.
Hey Seth, great review. I personally purchased the Altra Olympus 4.0. I was running on the 3.5, did the Zion Ultra 50km on them and it was time to update to the 4.0 I personally love Altras and will continue to used their shoes. I also own a pair of Torin Plush. I will probably be purchasing their Escalante 2.5 next. My daughter runs on the Escalante and uses their older Vanish R for racing.
be careful about vintage shoes. The foam degrades over time and probably won't ride the same as when they were newly manufactured. If you're looking for old shoe models, many specialty running shops have old stock that never sold sitting in back rooms and basements that might still be out there. You could reach out to stores like Runner's Corner in Orem, Utah for older shoes (I used to work there and know that there were some shoes 10+ years old in the basement there). fun fact about Runner's Corner: it is owned by the father and mother of Golden Harper (co-founder of Altra Running). Golden worked in the store. Additional fun facts: the Altra Lone Peak, Timp, and Olympus models are all named after peaks in the Wasatch range of the Utah Rocky Mountains. Mt. Timpanogos is closest to Orem where Runner's Corner is located.
Really looking forward to the Timp 3 review. I think the Quantic midsole will be more towards your (Seth) liking. I’ve been a Timp fan for 3 versions so far and when the times comes, I will do it again. Timp is like the Torin for the trail and that shoe is AMAZING! The Olympus 4 is a badddddd man! Great shoe if you want cushion for the long haul, definitely a great ultra shoe.
I just bought a pair of these and sent them straight back. I was shocked at how squishy these were, the cushioning was overkill. It was like walking on marshmellows.
I plan to buy Altra shoes (actually have the LP5 already) because they are the only shoes that have enough room for my oversize forefoot. The wide version fits me great but I haven't been able to get enough mid and rear foot lockdown in them.
Other shoe consideration would be Topo Athletic- similar footbox with zero to 5 mm drop. Also fun fact- all the Altra Trail shoes are named after mountain peaks in Utah :)
Hey Seth, no doubts my vote goes to TIMP 2 & 3 - just the best all rounder there is for me! Sits in the perfect spot between Olympus and Lone Peak, unfortunately, has some serious durability issues...the outersole always looks like through a shredder after around 300-350K (~200miles), I burned through 3 pairs so far, but it is still worth for me as I don't find anything else which is better!
Good honest review. I am mainly a Hoka Speedgoat, TenNine fan but have had the Lone Peak 4.5’s for a while also. I like the 5 much better than the 4.5’s, just feel better with a bit more cushion. I hike with these shoes not run due to back and knee issues.
QD: Lone Peak 5 and Olympus 4.5. Switched from Hoka to Altra for trails late 2020 and have not looked back. Just think the fit around the heels is so much better and the room in the toe box does not bother me. Hokas were the total opposite, tight toes and loose heels.
I’m an altra fan. If the Lone peak upper wasn’t so volumous, like the Timp 3, I’d love it. My feet are narrow and they don’t fit me. The drainage on this shoe is amazing, by the way. Yes size half down if you want a more aggressive fit.
The altra timp are by far my favorite altra shoe. They are super cushioned but also responsive. They market it as a commuter shoe but has enough traction for big mountain days.
Just bought a pair of these... now watching reviews after the fact. Why did I choose them? I wanted to give 0 drop a go and the lone peaks felt the best 😁
I love the lone peak 4.5. Have three pairs. I do everything from backpacking, mild hunting, and running here in western MT, Plus working on concrete floors all day in them. I tried the 5 on at REI as soon as they got them in and got a new pair of 4.5's that day. Altra changed the toe box and forward laces setup. When I walk in the 5's the toe box material creases into my toes and drives me crazy. I hope it changes for the 5.5 because I love the 4.5's. They are the only shoe I can wear to work that doesn't hurt my knees, plus my toes don't feel so cramped and get blisters. My toes splay naturally and most shoes are down right painful for my toes.
I plan on buying altra trail shoes. I have not decided which since the timp and Olympus are not available at local stores. Going to try on lone peak today and decide. I would rather support local running stores...
Just did a 5k trail run/very technical and rocky. Did not feel confident going fast in this shoe. Foot was sliding around a lot and shoe flopped alot making my way through the rocks. definitely a good shoe for slow easy runs as it is very comfortable.. This is my experience though
Comparing old to new is a little tricky - hi-tech foam doesn’t age so good unless they’ve been kept under pretty controlled conditions to keep the VOCs/plasticizers IN the midsole material. Some of my old trainers have not stored well/sort of disintegrated - exposed to sun or cold or just excessive airflow near a forced air duct. Like if you discovered the best shoe ever and you bought 10 pair … you might be find the ride had mysteriously changed by the time you got around to starting in on pair #10 in year 3 or 4 of ownership. I think this was one of the reason you decided to get some temperature controlled storage space?
For some of the really vintage stuff, the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico '66, Nike Cortez, Nike Tailwind '79, and Saucony Jazz are all still made. This doesn't go past the '80s, but at least those options are there. I think Adidas still makes some of their SL shoes from the 80s. The 90s and 2000s would be difficult to find running shoes for, though.
I’m 100% gonna get another pair of Torins, and I’m curious about the next evolution of the superiors! That Lone Peak....I’ll have to grab those since they look SHARP
I like the idea of Altras but the insole always feel thin and flat to me. A couple of years ago they had quality/durability and sizing issues too. I guess I’d go with the Superior b/c it’s lighter weight. The Timp is an ounce lighter than the Lone peak too.
Timp 2 is my favorite Altra trail shoe so far. It's not the new one--I'm talking about the previous version. Quantic midsole is perfect for absorbing the impact of trails, and the Timp 2 has enough security in the upper for me to feel confident on technical stuff. The LP5 upper is so sloppy, agree with you Seth. LP5 is a great hiking shoe though.
So far I've loved the Olympus 4. The durability is a little sus, but the shoe works really well for what I'm doing in it. I'm going to try the new Lone Peaks here after my next big trip.
I used Altra shoes, both road and trail, for a couple of years. Ultimately, I decided I did not like them. They really seemed like they made me work harder to run. My worst 1/2 marathon was run in the Torins.
I'm a Altra fan, but MAXtrac is terrible in the wet! and yes, the upper has zero structure. midsoles die at 200kms for me... Tried the Hoka speedgoat 4 wide...and wow! no comparison! love the Hokas!
Thanks for your comment!! I was contemplating getting the LP 5 for an up coming 50k... have currently the speed goat 4 so might be sticking with those! Is the Timp better suited for longer distances?
Thank goodness there are different strokes for different folks.....we love these shoes and give them 10/10. They work well for us on the trails. Other shoes have not worked for us.....I had Salmon shoes and got horrible blisters on the trail with them and threw them out after only about 100 miles using them......in fact my hubby and I switched shoes on the trail because my blisters we so bad (they did better for him then me, but decided to toss them anyway). Bottom line, we both will stick to Altra Lone Peaks!
Good to know. I took the 4.5s out for one run and I was done. The 4.5 has become my go-to walking/hiking/yard work/ do- everything shoe, but I just couldn’t jibe with that midsole in a running environment.
Perfect timing for this vlog!! After trying the Torin 4.5 on the roads, I am looking to get a pair of Altra for the trail. Debating between the LP5 and Timp. Which one would you get for a 50k to 80k ultra distance?? Onward and upward
Sage Canaday said he ran I think what was his marathon pr in a pair clifton 6's. Probably the second version at the time? Makes me think that for the vast majority on this channel, that we're not missing out on much with the super shoes.
I have ran in altras in the past because I love the zero drop. I have found that their midsoles do not have much cushion though. This has made me realize that most hokas with 4mm drops are perfect for me. I like the outsoles on the altra trail shoes but I need more cushion than what they have been putting out.
Currently I'm in the Timp 1.5, and was looking at replacing them with the Lone Peak 5 for the EGO. I've got half a dozen Escalantes between 1s,1.5s, 2.5s, and a pair of Racers. I'm intrigued by the Rivera, but I just recently indulged my curiosity in some DNA Flash from Brooks. I think you'd like the Brooks Catamount Seth. It delayed my plans of replacing my old beat up Timps...Looking forward to your upcoming review of the new Timps!
Omg!!! I ran my first 100 miles in them 21 hours straight ,I LOVE THEM.
100 miler? Dayum son
nice Demarion! CONGRATS!!
Agreed, I have a pair. Fantastic shoe, like a inov8 fell shoe mixed with a hoka. Brilliant for long miles!
i realize I'm pretty randomly asking but does anyone know a good website to stream new series online ?
@Jack Maxwell Flixportal :D
@Michael Onyx thank you, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D I appreciate it!
@Jack Maxwell you are welcome xD
Loving the goose honks
Thank you soooooo much for kudos on strava it means a lot to me, you made my day. I love altitude. DGR strong!
Przemek from Poland.
Before I even watch the video i gotta say that i have been waiting forever for you to make the review on this guy.
If you do have a chance, would love to hear you on Altra Escalantd Racer.
My guess is noone is reviewing the Racer because they hardly even touched it since it came out 4 years ago.
@@IvayloAtanasov yah, this Seth's point, the Altra is a very niche market.
I went just sub 9 hrs, with a 8:57. 84 km with 3900 meters of vert.
Olympus! I know they are over 10oz but I think they feel light overall. For me nothing beats the roomy toe box when my feet swell up during a long ultra!
I hope you didn't forget the Salomons that were sent to you. 😉
Maybe the extra room in the Altras would come in handy on a longer run in the summer when your feet get hot and swell a bit.
The review is not fair. The fit of Altra's is specifically designed for high-volume wide feet. Seth has narrow low volume feet.
bought Lone Peak 5 about 3 weeks ago, absolutely love love these shoes. So great
The lineup from the Bowerman series were amazing to run in back in the day!
:goo:
Hey! Do you wear your regular size? Or did you order them half size up? Thank you!
@@gibrancantu489 regular size. I have a wide foot & they fit perfect.
Yes! Torin Plush, 4.5 or new iteration if there is one. Love these for recovery days just to wear around and baby my legs and feet!
Thank seth for recommending this as I can see myself using this shoe for a long time
Altra Superior, such a light and flexible shoe!
Just ordered a pair of Altra Lone Peak 5...cannot wait....
Hey, Ian?!
LOVE THEM!
head bowed,
I just bought my first pair of Altra's today and these are the ones. I was talked into trying them for backpacking/hiking.
I picked up the Timp 3's for my first pair of Altras and absolutely loved them! Ran my first trail half marathon in them the other day.
Altra Vanish XC are my go to trail shoes, they’re amazing! You gotta review the Altra Escalante racers, my favorite road shoe to date.
I’ve been wearing the Lone Peak 5, I tried it on at the store and went half size down and its still loose and roomy around the toe box
be careful about vintage shoes.
The Lone Peaks are my favorite trail runner. Funny enough, I wear the Olympus as my daily kicks.
I brought these 3 days ago just waiting for them to arrive. I only run in altra shoes no more shin splints or knee pain 👌 👌
Other shoes to bye?!??! What about those Topos!!! 😎 loving my Topo Athletic Terraventure 2s for those trail runs!
Nailed it Seth! I feel the exact same about the shoe. Very comfy, but feels more like a slipper than a trail shoe. Great for hiking and easy days.
I have the Lone Peaks but I love my Timp 3's
Altra Torin 4.5 plush for road recovery and long walks. Super comfortable.
Altra is on my radar. I'll buy one next year prob. I've started running ultras, and they might be the most comfortable for high slow mileage.
I’m an altra fan. If the Lone peak upper wasn’t so volumous, like the Timp 3, I’d love it. My feet are narrow and they don’t fit me. The drainage on this shoe is amazing, by the way. Yes size half down if you want a more aggressive fit.
Lone Peak 5.0 is now offered in wide (grey/lime only). I bought a second pair 1/2 size smaller that are working well.
Been looking for lighter tail shoes! As always thank you for the review and your awesomeness!! Digging goose sounds ha!
I love the altra lone peak 4.5. Great feel and great look. The laces are amazing
My favorite Altra trail shoe is the Topo Athletic Runventure 3. I know, but they're just so much better than Altra's.
Love the altra superior 4.5. Just super nimble and light. Thinking about the timp 3 for my first ultra late in the summer
LOVE the lone peak 5!! Raced a 50k in that shoe and it was perfect!
I used Altra shoes, both road and trail, for a couple of years. Ultimately, I decided I did not like them. They really seemed like they made me work harder to run. My worst 1/2 marathon was run in the Torins.
retro shoes we were just talking about how the early shoes had suede and leather!! would love to hear actual comps on those!!
It may not feel incredibly responsive but it's leagues more responsive than version 4.5 so I'm happy about that!
Good to know. I took the 4.5s out for one run and I was done. The 4.5 has become my go-to walking/hiking/yard work/ do- everything shoe, but I just couldn’t jibe with that midsole in a running environment.
These lonepeaks are killer, such high quality use em all the time on the trails
Perfect timing for this vlog!! After trying the Torin 4.5 on the roads, I am looking to get a pair of Altra for the trail. Debating between the LP5 and Timp. Which one would you get for a 50k to 80k ultra distance?? Onward and upward
Sage Canaday said he ran I think what was his marathon pr in a pair clifton 6's. Probably the second version at the time? Makes me think that for the vast majority on this channel, that we're not missing out on much with the super shoes.
Lone Peak for sure!
Timp. Hands down favy Altra shoe
