    When the movie Hacksaw Ridge came out, the game Battlefield 1 was at the height of its popularity. One of the classes in-game was a medic, and suddenly there were players everywhere doing Hacksaw Ridge Challenge play, never firing their guns as they played a medic, and only going for heals and revives.
    Lo and behold, they often were in the top few on the leaderboards during matches, as you could rack up points very quickly keeping your team alive, rather than trying to kill the enemy.
    I'm sure there's some sort of lesson in this, but not sure what.

      The teamwork makes the dream work.
      I loved the medic class in BFV, mostly because it didn't require me to do be any good with my shooting, and I still felt useful, even sometimes critical for my team's success.

      The lesson is:
      "During war, there are two true sides of war; _The fools who always follow orders, and The wise who spare everybody because they're human, just like him."_

      I disagree with Desmobds decision to be a pacifist because the Bible does teach that Evil should be removed from the world by the people who make up the body of Christ. The Japanese Imperial Army and the Soviets were BYFAR the 2 most evil factions of WWII.... However I think that Desmond was able to accomplish what he did because of the Lord. Perhaps he wasnt being completely obedient, but he was certainly doing the Lords work and Jesus and Almighty Jehovah were absolutely with him every step of his journey. Too bad he was also a blaspheming Seventh Day Adventist idolater.... I hope he saw the truth and repented.

      Religion is man’s attempt at controlling his relationship with God. Christianity is simply having a relationship with God on God’s terms. Religion says if you do enough you will be rewarded. Jesus died for you before you did anything to deserve it. Accepting that and accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior is the only way to eternal life. Every other path leads to eternal separation from God, which is to say hell.

    Thank you very much for this story. Speaking as another Christian, who shares Doss's pacifist principles, I rate this and the story of the two young paratrooper medics in France the best - and certainly the most uplifting - stories you've covered so far. Doss reminds me a little bit of Sergeant Alvin York in his dedication, faith and courage. Certainly his faith would have been the springboard for his actions, driving his commitment to his fellows. I admire his calm resourcefulness under such great danger too. I hope I meet Mr Doss in the hereafter - and he'll let me shake the hand of a truly great hero.
    You might like to cover the tale of the only British soldier to be twice awarded the Victoria Cross, in the Great War - and he, too, was a medic. (There was another British medical orderly in that war, who following capture, volunteered to work in a German field hospital when his skills were needed, who earned the respect, indeed friendship of his captors, and who was given the 'semi official' status of a sergeant, so that he could give German hospital orderlies orders! Now there's a story for you, too.)

      @John mark Ogayon afaik, unlike the Japanese, the Germans respect the Geneva Conventions so unless they fire their weapons, medics in european theaters wouldn't have to worry about getting shot at (i also know this from that video lol)

    • @robertlombardo8437
      @robertlombardo8437 4 роки тому +15

      @John mark Ogayon
      The German army, at least the Wehrmacht, respected the Geneva Convention. They didn't tend to target medics.
      The Japanese were fanatical through and through and by this point had been in a state of war and conquest for about three decades. To say they didn't respect the Geneva Convention is putting it mildly. Listen to the stories of their POW camps, the occupation of the Philippines and the Rape of Nanjing if you dare.

    Thank you for creating this. Unfortunately many people have misunderstandings about Doss's service after seeing the movie 'Hacksaw Ridge' by Mel Gibson. Gibson changed a lot of the facts and left out amazing things like the prayers that resulted in zero deaths to Doss's company (when the other company was decimated), and Doss crawling to the aide station after he was wounded.
    Truth is important.
