In war, People tend to forget the humanity that soldiers still held within them. Even during the darkest of hours, people from both sides can still help one another. This video was an amazing representation of that. Thank you.

@HELMUT ALTO there is no denial nasty things happens in war.
There are criminals and sinners amongs all of us.
However the message of solidarity should not be overshadowed by the sins of others.
The work that these medics did should not be forgotten.
The actions, and respect (which no longer exist in todays socaiety) of the soldiers from both sides did. Should never be forgotten.
At any moment. These medics could have been killed. But they chose not to.
Let us at least be able to honor that.

I love how the church still stands today. A place once a sanctuary of refuge from chaos in carnage now surrounded by peaceful land once more. The blood of the wounded now nothing but stains in the relics. A building that now sits quiet and empty only to be visited by future generations. It’s original heroic inhabitants physically lost in the sands of time, but never their names nor their actions for they will always be remembered and cherished.

I saw his ashes, I saw the blood stained pews, the sherman shell hits, the cracks in the ceiling, and all of the windows, which were blown out on D-Day due to mortar fire. I'm not spiritual by any means, but I'm willing to bet that that church knew its purpose as both a holy place and a place of aid and thus knew it had to stand once again a test that Man brought upon it.

These two understood the value of lives. They may be the enemy, but what makes you any different from them? You're both wearing uniforms, being told what to do, and fighting desperately for something you want to protect. But by the end of the day, no matter which side you're on, you all have families, parents, and loved ones waiting for you to return. These two understood that very well and knew the pain of knowing what it's like if the person you care about doesn't come back. We're all human afterall.

Hacksaw was done because while about a medic (who was *deeply religous* you two), said medic was in a lot of action.
This story doesn't have enough action to be a movie, but an HBO mini-series might be suited, especially as while there's little action going on there's plenty of time passing, so making a show of it would do the story more justice.

    • @1969nitsuga

@@cptTK421 Hacksaw was a true story and it is considered a modern war movie masterpiece. But there is plenty of space for a movie around this story. Just like Titanic. The only fact was the sinking and a few details. Ford vs Ferrari also has a similar situation. Creative licence, training and combat situations can be developed.

Search up Shunsaku Kudo risking his ship to rescue allied survivors and Saburo Sakai sparing a C47 despite orders to shoot everything down. As for the Soviet act of kindness, look up Nikolay Masalov who put his life at risk to save a German girl. That's not to justify the systemic brutality instilled by either government and military leadership, but soldiers are humans which aren't inherently evil.

And surprisingly, he had the same reason as you actually. He hated the catholic church on a stereotype of it being like a cult.
He wasn’t aiming at people, but the church itself.
Its been 16 years since I last heard of the court martial papers. Normally they are confidential to the public.
