Im 58. My mom is 85. We are out in the forrest almost every weekend. Always looking for trolls. 😀 You should look up John Bauer's pictures. He was born in 1882 and painted all trolls and such in the Swedish forrests. 😉
"Too" remote often has the disadvantage that you would be the one having to care (or pay somebody with a tractor - if there is somebody having a tractor nearby...) for plowing when going/living there during winter - if the "roads" are just "forest-roads". Another problem with "small non-public roads" is that you would have to pay from time to time in order for keeping the "road" in shape. So the question is: How many meters of distance are actually necessary in order to prevent noise/views from/to the next "public road". I would tend to say that from about 200-300 meters it would be ok. This means that you could park your car close to the road in winter - and it would still not be a problem to carry your stuff some hundreds of meters to the cabin. Another problem is: On the one hand its very nice to have the possibility to reach your cabin by car. So no problem to get machines/materials there. On the other hand such a way is some kind of "invitation" to thieves - especially if the cabin is far away from the next house/farm. To set up a "vägbom" is not of help - because a closed "vägbom" to thieves is very little hinder but an obvious invitation.

Hi 👋 Congrats on your new adventure. Looking forward to following. One suggestion: when you do panning video footage it would be great if you could slow the movement down a bit - we all want to have a good look 😊 & if you move too fast I get dizzy
Haha Ruthy. Look, I am very new to this game filming this on my smartphone :D I hope you will see my progress from video to video. I appreciate the comment and will try to adapt accordingly in the future.
1. A cat cage?! That’s my dream lol 2. Your van is really, really cool! 3. Thank you for sharing this our journey with us!! I know this was so exciting and nerve wracking!
Hi Liz Thanks for being a part of this adventure. Truely nerve wracking as the following stories will show :D And praise will always be welcome here hehe :P
Enjoyed your video, love the idyllic Swedish forest cabin lifestyle idea, escaping into nature. Good luck in your journey. You should do a tour of your van too 😊
Hej hej! I appreciate the comment. It is quite special isn't it. You will see more and more of the van as the tour continues :) but I will keep it in the back of my mind.
I lived in Sweden many years. I think one of the reasons these houses are so cheap is because many are Summer houses which are not meant for year round living. Lovely in the Summer, less so in the harsh conditions of Winter and it takes a lot of work to Winterise them. But I wish you well. Not all houses in Germany are expensive, you can get cheap ones in the East where my partner is from, including some one euro houses, have seen them. Why so many Germans want houses in Sweden instead of buying in Saxony or Thuringia I don't understand because it's just as beautiful if not more so...but so it is.
Definitely going to be a lot of work if you're not used to living far away of any services for long durations of time. Especially in winter it can get pretty missereable especially if you purchase a cabin that was innitially designed and built as a summer cabin. This coming from neighbouring country of Finland. Language barrier might also be a big obstagle.
I started learning Swedish :) Swedish folk (even a lot of elderly people) speak English fluently. I was cut off in Australia, too. I think you have a point when you talk about winter/summer cabins
Love what you are doing. Will you make this a full time home, or just a vacation home? The house prices seem to be very reasonable. Isn’t Sweden a very cold place in the winter?
And I absolutely love to see the comment! My idea was to buy a home, renovate and convert it and then use it, have friends and family use it and whenever I wasn´t using it (or not moving to sweden in the future) rent it out :) That´s the best thing about Scandinavia. You still get super cold white winters, miraculous springs and hot summers.
What a great first video. Really enjoyed this. I'm pretty sure you appeared in my recommended videos because I watch www.youtube.com/@DanielErik who has also recently moved to remote cabin in Sweden.
I bee deeply upset of this. okey we swedes always welcome forigners to come to our land . yes we have plenty of room. but this do me angry. Here sitts a young guy and have a demand list as long as a lawbook. and is not interested to move here to live NO to buy a property and rebuild it for rent OUT. i havent nothing about strangers hwo move to sweden because of job and they are inlove with our beautiful country. what i dont like that a stranger buy up propertys to build up a buissness!! and still live in Germany. shame of you shame shame. this is only bad. how many small places will you buy upp? 5 or 10 maybee. You dont even know what you buy or say , For ex. you say you put the wood in the stow and you use show baking oven!? May bee i miss understand it all and apologize, but i dont think so when i listen , you would like to lay a bid on the woods too!!
Agreed and understand your anger so well,if foreigners just buy for business. It should be a new law to live year around in all European countries, when it is harder and harder to buy a home in your own country. Like Spain,Greece,France aso.

The window, that is a traditional way of keeping the window dry during winter. You can buy it on rolls in a common store.

Hi Maike,
ja bist du :) Und du kommst auch aus SH :D Es ist ja mein Hobby :)
Don’t worry about the Bears in the forest. The Wolves, lynx, and wolverines scare them off. 😅

Not a cabin (one open room), but a cottage (separat room/rooms and kitchen).
haha thanks for letting me know. I think it´s used interchangeably nowadays. I will change it ;)
👍
Too many selfies. Talk yes, but show all us viewers the scenery all around you...
