My top study hacks: 1) If you can't get to work: A) create a ritual: for example I like to clear my desk, make a cup of tea or coffee and meditate for 10 mins. B) Use a modified pomodoro technique. I'll tell myself I only have to work for a short amount of time, then I get a break (for example: work 15 mins then get a 10 min break), it usually helps me to start working and then I increase the length of the working periods and shorten the one of the break periods. Usually, my ideal ratio is 40 mins intense work then 5-10min break + a longer break after 3 rounds or this :) 2) To learn things by heart (definitions, formulas, ...): flashcards (I use anki rather than quizlet: it's less pretty but much more efficient). 3) To learn global concepts: explain to yourself! I found that that's the best way for me to quickly learn and remember things while I was actually tutoring high school students! I noticed that I always remembered super well whatever I'd revised with them, even after weeks of not touching the subject! So now: I go through a chapter and write all possible questions I can think of concerning this and the most important elements of response as bullet points. Then I ask myself the question and try to explain to myself without looking :) Works great! 4) For more quantitative classes (maths, sciences, statistics, finance, economics,...): drill yourself! Re-do problem sets + extras (if some are made available by your teacher) and make sure you understand every step you're doing, not just repeating a "learned recipe" of sorts. Also, for complex types of problems that you struggle with: write down explanations and methods on a separate of paper to make sure that what you've understood stays clear in your brain and that you'll be able to remind yourself of this before the test/exam. 5) Always make an "index" of the different chapters and sub-chapters for each class: this helps to have a global view of what you've learned and also helps to link ideas and concepts from different chapters together (which teacher love and often require). 6) Try to find an angle that makes what you learn interesting instead of just learning to pass a test/get a diploma! This will make everything stick to your brain much better ;) 7)Check out the studyblr community on tumblr! Tons of tips, tricks and motivation on there and a great community to be a part of :)
+Noannelle Sky CONGRATULATIONS! You've been selected by yours truly for a special surprise heading your way! So excited to send you this treat--just email me at the address listed in the description of this video with your full name & address and I'll be sure to get that to you as soon as possible!
You've been a really big inspiration in my life to make me a better student/studier (especially with the ACT and APs coming up) and I just really want to thank you for that :)
I have learned that making a study guide for an test no matter how big or small at least two days before the test helps me. Cramming the night before gives me average grades but when I budget my time and study two days before I can usually get a 98%-100% on my tests. Also I always like to keep my hair in a low braid or bun because it keeps my hair out of my way and it doesn't give me headaches with a high bun or ponytail. I definitely recommend the focus playlists on Spotify because they range from "intense studying" to "late night focus." Also using different colored pens and highlighters help when making my studyguides. And of course quizlet is a must, I have been using it for six years now and I still use it almost everyday. Last but not least, making mnemonic devices are my life savers when it comes to memorizing orders of events or etc.
If you have multiple tests coming up within the next week, study in chucks. Assign 10-30 minute intervals for each subject depending on how close the test is and how well you know the material. In between each chunk, take a 5 minute break and get up and stretch! This is really helpful even if you are only studying one subject so that you don't get too tired. Also, explain the concepts out loud to yourself or someone else. #GetCollegeReady
Really loving this series, and I am in eighth grade. I listen to a workout playlist on spotify when I do math because I need music that pumps me up to power through the math problems😂😂
Something I always do that never fails to motivate me in my studies is watching inspiring videos that relate to what I want to do with my life. I am a senior in high school and I have committed to a college where I will be studying elementary education! I am so ready to get out of high school and although senioritis has not affected me yet, I can unfortunately feel it coming on. So when I feel completely unmotivated to study for a test that I know I should be studying for, I often times watch videos of people talking about the elementary education program at my school and their success stories! These types of videos really help me to keep my eye on the prize (the prize being college) and put my mind on the right track. SO... Inspire yourself to stay motivated! :) #GetCollegeReady
I can't study with music! I can't focus! At most, I can do a little classical music if it's really quiet. My study hacks would be : 1. I put motivational post it notes around my desk area. 2. I use quizlet! I also make hard copy flash cards. 3. Keeping water at my desk so I'm not constantly getting up. #getcollegeready
+Christine270 I can't study with music either, i need complete silence to do anything, even just homework or writing notes. I don't know if that's weird. 😂😂
+Christine270 CONGRATULATIONS! You have been selected as a winner for the #GetCollegeReady campaign! Go ahead and email me your address at the email listed in the description so we can move forward with your surprise!
recopy your notes. take notes in class (by hand), which often turn out messy anyways as you try to jot down what the professor is saying quickly. once you get home, recopy those notes in a more organized fashion in a separate notebook that you keep for all of your recopied notes. take out unnecessary information, star important information and use colored pens to organize. this will help you retain the information, but you have to make sure that you are mindfully recopying and marking any concepts that you dont understand/need to go over more with a tab. then, before the exam, take those recopied notes and condense them into a review guide, helping you be the most prepared for the exams as you can be. #getcollegeready
+Pls no CONGRATULATIONS! You've been selected by yours truly for a special surprise heading your way! So excited to send you this treat--just email me at the address listed in the description of this video with your full name & address and I'll be sure to get that to you as soon as possible!
explaining the material to a friend in the class and having them explain it to you! it helps you both to fully understand because you have to explain it and also makes in sink in to your brain because you're listening to them explain it over and over again. #getcollegeready
I always make study guides folded like a trifold ; it forces me to keep the information condensed and to the point. I'm not an artist so any diagrams I search for unlabeled ones or make my own and make a bunch of copies to label. Like you mentioned teaching someone else the concept has always been what solidifies it in my head I need to be able to say "this is what I'm talking about, it's kind of like this example, and this is what's most important"
The best study hack that I always use is if there is something that I know I'll put off or there is an assignment due, I will write it down on a sticky-note and stick it to the inside of my laptop next to the trackpad. This way, every time I open my laptop to do anything except for the task I'll feel super bad and guilty for procrastinating until I finally give in and do the task! It's helped so much, it's almost like I'm nagging myself haha #getcollegeready
this video is really helpful! a lot of videos I've seen have some ~semi~ helpful tips but they aren't super effective. this video has super practical tips and I've use all of these. the last one is especially helpful, I tutor a girl in math and when I teach her a concept I ask her to try to teach it back to me and it really helps me see what parts she struggles with and what parts she understands
I think what helps me most is that I have a VERY specific time I do hw and studying everyday. My body becomes used to that routine and my mind is then ready to work at that time! I also write out flashcards during class instead of writing it in my notebook, that way, I can use those to study!!!! :) :) LOVE YOU!!! :)
Aw your hair looks so cute! Spotify has a nice coffee shop classical music playlist! its great! AND QUIZLET ROCKS! Saves so much time while studying/organizing for studying. Also, my Physics teacher gave the class a personality test type thing that helped people understand how they learn and study best. It really did help me understand why I have certain study habits and it helped me look for new ways of approaching studying.
My favorite study hack is to think of a reward for completing my work! It can range from a weekly reward like going to a movie on Friday night or going out to get my favorite dessert, or it could be something to do at the end of the day like watching a TV show or giving myself time to draw. Love your videos, they're always so helpful!
I just finished re-watching your video about junior year. My tips for a good studying a. Set the time for 30 minutes and study it helps get the work done faster b. Put away any kind of devise that are distracting c. Take a few minutes to look at some motivational quotes everyday
I also totally agree about the Quizlet thing. It has helped me so much to study. It's so easy to go on Quizlet and study when you have on a little down time like on your commute or waiting for your food to be ready! Plus using Quizlet on your computer is so good since there are a few mini games that make you have fun and plus you're learning! Plus when I study I also just look at my notes and rewrite my notes. It helps me to comprehend better and plus when I'm writing I have to concentrate and that way I can focus more and remember it. I also try to find a good study place and just get focused. I don't have to put away my tech since I know from experience that if I just focus now I will have downtime later. Plus I never take breaks because I find that I just get more distracted. Before I start I make a list of everything I need to do. First I just jot down everything that comes to mind and then I pick the assignments that take the least time to do first then work down. #getcollegeready
That's really helpful! I've been loving this series :) one of my best study tips is to set myself a deadline - so if I want to have something done really soon, I write down "finish (assignment) by 7 pm" or even better ask my mother or a friend (by texting them) to come back/text me in an hour (or whenever my deadline is) asking me if I've finished it! That way, I definitely don't want to let myself or them down by telling them I haven't! Apart from that, planning!!! Having a detailed, cut-to-bits study plan helps so much because in that way you know exactly what you have to do, at what time, and what your priorities are for the day/week! In that case the pomodoro method can be really helpful, too (you can also download the app): basically you study for 25 minutes or however long works for you and then have a 5-min break and do that over and over again until you've finished all your work. You can add a long break when you've completed, for instance, a total 2:30 hours of studying, too. #GetCollegeReady
Kinesthetic learners (me) find that music helps them focus. Chewing gum, walking around, make your brain active while studying. Helps me retain info more than sitting in a quiet room.
I use flashfacts. Its a flashcard app that costs like a dollar in the app store and lets you put images on your slides which is great for language classes. Whenever I'm learning Spanish vocab I'll put a picture of the item on the card and the Spanish word on the back, associating the word with the image is much better than associating it with the English translation. Also something I found helpful for learning Spanish verb conjugations was to look up songs on youtube that had all the conjugations of a certain verb/verb tense in them and make sure that the song got stuck in my head before the test. #getcollegeready
I totally agree with the over-learning and rewritting hack. Rewritting things, for me at least, definitely helps when trying memorize vocab or formulas
I study by printing out lecture slides the night before and reading through them. Then throughout the lecture I have more time to listen to the lecturer and annotating small details instead of frantically taking notes down. Then after lectures I like to go through with a highlighter to read the slides and notes again, emphasising anything important and writing any hard to remember equations or terms on post its over and over again!
These are my 6 tips for successful studying or doing homework 1: Put calm music to get you in the mood of studying I us Pandora and search instrumental studying music so I could concentrate on my work 2: Have a bottle of water and some type of fruit so if you get hungry you don't have to constantly get up and get food 3: Put away all your electronics exempt if your listening music so if you get a notification you don't have to get distracted 4: Light up a candle so the smell will get you focused so you could finish studying or doing you homework 5: Wear comfortable clothes so you could focus or else you will feel uncomfortable and not focus a lot 6:Have natural light coming out of a window next to you to put you in a mood to finish studying or finishing your homework I hope this helped you guys and I use these tips everyday. #GetCollegeReady
I have a Pandora station that plays hip hop instrumentals. Stuff like A Tribe Called Quest, Grammatick, J Dilla, Nightmares on Wax, etc. I like that it has no words so I can keep it on in the background without it distracting me, but the beats are energetic enough to keep me "up" and working. I also listen to those "Rock-A-Bye Baby" versions of popular songs like Taylor Swift, Blink 182, etc. They are a lot more low key and I use them more when I am reading something a little dense and I need to focus.
Coffitivity is me favourite for studying! I get too distracted from music sometimes but that site provides you background sounds of a coffee shop and it somehow makes me feel much more productive! Apart from that for me it's important to prepare everything to be ready at my desk (water, snacks, papers, highlighters, etc) because if I have to get up and get something I will get easily distracted, haha! #getcollegeready
#GetCollegeReady 1) CORNELL NOTES ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND WHEN READING YOUR TEXTBOOK: Having a simple and specific way to write down key points is extremely helpful, they're also a great referencing tool to study later. I find my self writing my notes down first, and going back to highlight important terms and concepts afterward. Doing so enables you to not just read the information, but comprehend it as well. Since the paper is split into 2 section, I fold over the side with concept topic names and try to memorize the key points of each topic. 2) GET YOURSELF A PLANNER: There is no way that you can keep up with all of your assignments in your head.Having a planner helps me to better prepare for my assignments, because I schedule out time in my planner to work on them through out the week. When using a planner efficiently all nighters can become a thing of the past. Also try to find a planner that you love looking at as it will encourage you to use it more. I use the Lilly Pulitzer agenda. 3) POCKET POINTS: This is an app that rewards you with free food, gift cards, etc. when your phone is not in use. All of my friends on the TAMU campus use it as an incentive to not use their phone while studying. (I PROMISE THIS ISN'T SPONSORED LOL) Sincerely, A high school senior who takes entirely too many AP Classes. Thanks and Gig em!
#GetCollegeReady Besides the great tips you gave, 1) When studying, I set a timer for how long I need to work then, take a short break. 2) I get motivated by thinking about hardships I would have if I failed. 3) I try to work with or around people who are also studying. Even if its not the same assignment, being in a working environment helps!
I find for me what works best, is after I have read over the material and studied in to know it pretty well. I make up some questions from my notes and my friend makes up questions and we ask each other the questions we made up and discuss the answers and if we get it wrong we go over it and over it. I find it really helps me to remember the material if I am discussing the topics and getting someone else in on it changes the perspective a bit and they may give me something I can use to better remember the material and me them.
I like to watch videos to help me study. Especially if I'm confused on the subject it's always good to find a video of another person explaining the topic :) #getcollegeready
I'd say to listen to music that's classical but pretty and interesting to you to listen to. Also to turn off your phone and put it away in a place far away you wouldn't want to walk all the way to.
quizlet is definitely my go to! It helps me so much with my AP class and all my classmates love that i'm the nerd to make them. Its my holly grail! And my study tip is to use the timed page blocker on your laptop, that way if you do study in your room you probably will be tempted to procrastinate and go on youtube or facebook but if you put the page blocker on for 30 minutes or an hour it just helps you bc you cant go to those pages and it will help you stay focused!
I can't study with music for this simple fact: even if it doesn't have words, i just start playing air guitar or air drums xD ( yes I'm wierd ) And besides heavy metal doesn't go well with a calm and quiet study time :D
My study tips: 1- for long term studying, take breaks often! If you cannot concentrate come back to it because if you're in anyway distracted you will not be at your best to retain info. 2- When reading thru notes, try to really understand the concept and analyze it. I recommend this for history classes because it is more analytic than something like biology where memorizing AND knowing the info is best:)
I use my TAs as resources! I go through lectures, rewrite notes, and work with my friends in understanding the material. If I come across something confusing or I realize I have a clear question, I will write it down and set up a time to meet with the TA. That way I can get a FULL understanding of the material, and usually learn more than I expected. (Also thanks to Katherout I change study locations, use "self control", and take breaks with her weekly vlogs.) #GetCollegeReady
I am in an AP class and have tested out a lot of study processes and one of my favorite is supplemental work ( I get bored with the boring text book easy). Also, for history reading a fictional book that I can enjoy that is part of the same time period. #GetCollegeReady
In addition to the music hack, I can't read (english or history books) while listening to music especially with lyrics. However listening to music when I'm doing math or science actually makes me more productive. Also listening to songs I don't know the lyrics of keeps me from singing along in my head instead of focusing.
If I don't want to get anything done, I tell myself that I'll work for 5 minutes and if I don't want to continue I can stop. The hardest part for me when doing my homework is getting started, and after I've started, I'm fine. Once I've worked for five minutes, I don't want to stop. Also, I like to rewrite my lecture notes after class. This helps me review what we learned in lecture that day. I add diagrams, and try and figure out what I don't understand
I recommend color-coding your notes. It helps me because when I am looking back in my notes trying to find something the thing that is color-coded stands out and that might be exactly what i am looking for. #GetCollegeReady
When I have a lot of big ideas or parts that I need to be able to hash out from memory, I like to make pneumonic acronyms for myself. For example, I had an economics class last semester that had TONS of lists of related concepts that I had to memorize so that I could explain them or use them to answer application questions on a test. One set of info I had to memorize was the 7 Goals of Economics, so I came up with "FEES, FEPS, and homie G" to help me remember. I know that sounds kinda stupid, but I still know them 3 months after I finished that class: -economic (F)reedom -economic (E)quity -economic (E)fficiency -economic (S)ecurity - (F)ull (E)mployment -(P)rice (S)tability -economic (G)rowth Also, I find that reading my notes out loud to myself helps me, especially when it's really late and I'm just starting to study for a test. Even if I'm too tired for my visual cortex to process all the words, my auditory cortex is still absorbing at least a litte information. Plus, when what I'm saying starts to sound mumbley and slurred, I know to stop for a second and wake myself up a little. I also prefer to work in soft, natural light. I guess it's comforting and less stressful in some way ¯\(ツ)/¯ I also sometimes use the Pomodoro method to stay more efficient with my time. The typical interval with this method is 25 minutes of work with 5 minutes of break, and then 15 minutes of break every 4 cycles. I tend to let myself break for more than 5 minutes, but I think its still helpful, and there's lots of apps for Pomodoro timers. #getcollegeready
The best way from me to study is to go through my text book and highlight and write in the notes that I took for a class then go back through and read them. I don't do well with remembering things if I write my own notes so this really helps. I also listen to classical music when I study because there are no words so I don't feel the need to sing along.
Something that help me is, if I have difficulty with a concept or I have difficulty with remembering something by heart, I read my note about that, 10 min before to go to bed. Sleeping help to consolidate that information and the next morning it will be more easy to remember. P.S. thank you for your video. I very enjoy this channel and your vlog channel.
The best thing that helped me was to videotape every review and lecture because repetition is key for me. I have to listen to vital information more than once for it to stick in my brain. Through this I can go back and listen as well as write notes. This has helped me in my job as well so I believe this to be a great tip for me. #getcollegeready
+Teresa Hunt It's a great tip but it seems so time consuming to me! I usually record classes so that, if I notice there is info missing in my notes or sthg I don't understand, I can just go back and listen to it. But having over 30h of classes a week I wouldn't have the time to listen to all my lectures again!
I like to make my own monthly calendar in the front of the spiral I use for my classes. I like to have everything I need to know in one place. Having my study material, calendar, and to-do list all in the same spiral helps my mind get in the right mood for studying. #getcollegeready
I'm similar to you. For me, I HAVE to do math and science homework with music. And by science I mean stuff that's more on the math side than the ideas/concept side. My mind does math very naturally so it gets very boring and easy that music is the only way I can get through them. But for reading and other things where I actually have to understand, I can't read a single sentence with my music on. It depends on each person, really.
I usually listen to Netflix while studying. I prefer listening to a show I've already watched. I also really like using the app Coffitivity. It's an app in which you can listen to the sounds you would hear in a coffee shop. It's pretty cool and it's free. Helps me a lot. #GetCollegeReady
I personally do not study well in group settings, but this past year in AP Bio, before every test my friends and I would create a google doc and while Facetime-ing each other, we would go through every chapter and make a study guide. The important thing I learned was that: 1. It is important to work with a friend with a similar level of knowledge regarding the chapter (so that it can be a dynamic conversation, not just one person teaching the other!) 2. Set a goal in mind for when you want to have the study guide done by (if you say "we will be done by 8" then it keeps the two of you focused) 3. Make sure you are CREATIVE when making the study guide!!!! (this was vital to me. Use pictures from the internet, colored text, unique font. Make it fun, because the more you make it your own, the more likely you are to remember it!) Don't go overboard though :) #GetCollegeReady
I'm a science major so I always pull the learning outcomes and mastering concepts from the textbook and write as much as I can about the topic to answer it in a word document. I find I work better off sheets of paper then flash cards!! I also love your videos. #getcollegeready
#getcollegeready I've noticed a lot of people say they can't study with music on. My recommendation is to listen to any type of acoustic music; I've noticed that its the lyrics of songs that distract me more than the actual song. Another good thing is nice white noise (i.e. ocean sounds). I also recommend getting see through sticky notes. I really enjoy writing in my books, but renting them is WAYY cheaper. Regular post its tend to block off entire pages but with see through sticky notes you can underline things and write notes without worrying about blocking valuable info. Hope this helps!!!
To add on to what you said in your last tip, I try to leave some time to talk the material over with someone else before a test. I also try not to study at least 30 minutes before a test so I don't stress myself out too much.
One thing that I like to do is OUTLINE when I'm reading! I was required to do it in my AP US History class, but I found it helps me actually read the material and recreate the terms and concepts. I especially for biology love to draw diagrams and tables and processes out. #GetCollegeReady :-)
I'm in high school an one thing that works for me is recording myself reading my notes from class and playing the recording back several times to ingrain concepts into my memory...It's kind of boring but it works 😄
I have two study hacks to add, which are both to do with planning: 1. every Sunday, make a detailed plan for the following week on a piece of paper, plan out every hour and what you're going to be doing - eg attending a class or doing a specific piece of homework. 2. prepare in advance - before the start of the semester make a start on the reading list and review relevant previous material, and during term before each lecture or class read the notes beforehand so you get the basic ideas in your head first, allowing you to concentrate on the harder or more detailed information you are learning in the class itself #GetCollegeReady
I use concept maps and flashcards. Flashcards really help me to memorize information, while concept maps help me to connect everything that I learned. I use quizlet a lot for flashcards but sometimes it helps me more to just write them all them out. #getcollegeready
My study tips would be studying with breaks, so my optimal time is 50 minutes of studying and then a 10 minute break. I also like leaving my room to study because I can't concentrate with all the stuff in my room. Another great study tip would be to make study guides with friends on Google Doc! My humanities professor gives key ideas that we learn from the quarter and my friends and I like to each tackle about 20 ideas each and copy and paste any lecture notes or additional material we have learned so each of us can individually do less work. #getcollegeready
I've found that if I don't take a break where I just sit down and be lazy in my room throughout the day and save my lazy room time for all at once at night. It's much easier to stay moving and then go into studying than to lay down and watch Netflix for an hour and then go into studying.
I usually go on Spotify or 8tracks and curate my own study playlists. Basically I just go to the pre-made study playlists they have, pick out my favorites, and use that to study. #getcollegeready
My study tips would be : 1. When I have really long texts or paragraph at history for example what I like to do is recording myself reading that paragraph and listening to this multiples time an till I memorize it , it's just make it more easy for my 2. I like to decorate my notes because when I do it it help me to memorize them more quickly 3. I also like to give myself a test after every chapter that I learn because in that way I can be sure that I understood everything ( sorry if I made grammatical mistakes but I am not English )
My study hack is to rewrite notes that I may have rushed through and don't quite understand that way I can retain the information better than I had previously! #getcollegeready
Hi, Katherine! I love and am so impressed with your videos.Your videos inspire me as I live in a dormitory where I should share space with my roommate. Keep inspiring! Best regards from Indonesia
4:30 I have some difficulty understanding. Tried to write it down. I got this: ' Definitely start with the term and definition and mixing those that started with the definition abiding the term and the term abiding the definition but the reality is on the test'. Maybe she said 'inviting' instead of abiding? Need some help please.
#GetCollegeReady for mathematics study: If you are originality good at grasping math (or you can multitask), you can honestly do your homework anywhere and not get bored. For me, sometimes I seat on my bed and quietly do my homework while I watch a funny movie or a movie about success that will make me laugh and push me to get it done quickly so as to watch the entirety of the movie with more focus for the movie. Do not choose movies that last for forever, they might just distract you and waste your time
If you need to listen to something while studying a great tool is Noisli. It's free and you can create sounds like a rainy coffeehouse. Also, rewriting notes is a great way to study for tests if you have time! #getcollegeready
Make sure that you're not extremely hungry or else you won't be able to concentrate. Read the material out loud. It sticks better that way. Try teaching it to someone who isn't learning it or is bad at the subject. If you do that successfully, then you probably know the material really well. #getcollegeready
im a person wich procrastinates all the time, the thing that makes me work is simply being with someone else wich is working. all i need is for someone else to be next to me so that it pressures me into working #getcollegeready
I need complete silence when I study. However, when I'm studying or doing homework in a coffee shop like starbucks where it gets loud and hectic, I just listen to music to block out all the noises. Also, i can study in silence only if it's in the library. When I'm sitting on my bed studying or if I study on desk, I ACCOMPLISH NOTHING. I also like study groups cause I always have questions.
Tip one! Don't watch UA-cam videos or Netflix while you're studying or doing homework! It's totally something I used to do and just thought that I'd warn you all- IT DOES NOT WORK AND YOU NEED TO STOP :) Tip two! I prefer to listen to either rock music or classical music. Definitely a HUGE difference of music! But it works most listening to classical, again for me, because while you don't really notice it until you actually stop and listen, you don't zone out! Tip three! Okay, short story here! One of my teachers helps you study with a group of other people, and (TWO TIPS IN ONE) DON'T COME IF YOU DON'T NEED IT. If you can get good grades on tests by yourself, it just distracts and stresses out the other people going there, think about it like this- if someone who understands what we're learning comes to get help to study, everyone else who can't grasp the material gets freaked out and stressed about it. GO TO THESE IF YOU FEEL YOU NEED TO. (Continued in comments)
I stated above that if you have gotten good grades on past tests and understand the material, you shouldn't go, but if it's just one concept that you're not sure about, you should totally go! It helps a lot, and clears a lot up. Another thing to go along with this is to not being all your friends if they don't also need it, or if you will just be laughing the entire time. People come to study and get help because they need it, and they are taking time out of their day to get the help they need, and if your laughing and talking the entire time, trust me, everyone will NOT enjoy it. Best of luck studying, because let's be real, if you looked this up, your most likely about to study! #getcollegeready
TO EVERYONE: I highly highly reccomend the program Anki, its similiar to quizlet but a million times better and im not going back. What would take me 3 hours to study on quizlet only takes me 1 hour on Anki.
#GETCOLLEGEREADY MY TIPS FOR STUDYING: Study with the nature without any human or technology distraction, also, while you study be an actor of your show. Move yourself around and engage your hands in understanding what you are trying to understand. If you have textbooks, avoid your laptop and cell phone; it is more safer to have a radio to play your music for you. Create sticky note of the most important stuffs you learn and post them on your dresser, doors, and walls of your room so that anything you come in contact with this notes you will learn or at least remember something you read. Boring libraries works. KATEROUT
My top study hacks:
1) If you can't get to work:
A) create a ritual: for example I like to clear my desk, make a cup of tea or coffee and meditate for 10 mins.
B) Use a modified pomodoro technique. I'll tell myself I only have to work for a short amount of time, then I get a break (for example: work 15 mins then get a 10 min break), it usually helps me to start working and then I increase the length of the working periods and shorten the one of the break periods. Usually, my ideal ratio is 40 mins intense work then 5-10min break + a longer break after 3 rounds or this :)
2) To learn things by heart (definitions, formulas, ...): flashcards (I use anki rather than quizlet: it's less pretty but much more efficient).
This will make everything stick to your brain much better ;)
7)Check out the studyblr community on tumblr!
Really a big reply but as well useful too!❤❤😊
i know I am pretty off topic but does anyone know of a good website to stream new movies online?
@Kason Thaddeus Flixportal xD
@Colt Alexis thank you, I signed up and it seems like a nice service :D I appreciate it!
You've been a really big inspiration in my life to make me a better student/studier (especially with the ACT and APs coming up) and I just really want to thank you for that :)
aww
+TheLocoCoco123 you are so so welcome!
#getcollegeready
Haha I can only test with my hair in a low bun too :)
+Emily H ALL great stuff--i really appreciate you sharing, Emily!
+Olivia ♡ I love this, but my 5 minute breaks usually turn into hour long breaks :p
Really loving this series, and I am in eighth grade. I listen to a workout playlist on spotify when I do math because I need music that pumps me up to power through the math problems😂😂
+Liza Suzanna i can totally see that workin for ya!
+Liz Boyle that's such a cute idea!
Your brain retains more information when it isn't focusing on music so you're actually studying more productively!
+Christine270 CONGRATULATIONS! You have been selected as a winner for the #GetCollegeReady campaign! Go ahead and email me your address at the email listed in the description so we can move forward with your surprise!
+Katherout Emailed! (: Thank you!
+TheGlambitiousBeauty
you watch katherout too!??!? yay ily your videos
I love note taking! Mindmaps, cue cards, presentation slides etc. Everything is more visual than wordy and so much easier to digest!!
+Cheryl Teo you are too right about that!
recopy your notes. take notes in class (by hand), which often turn out messy anyways as you try to jot down what the professor is saying quickly. once you get home, recopy those notes in a more organized fashion in a separate notebook that you keep for all of your recopied notes. take out unnecessary information, star important information and use colored pens to organize. this will help you retain the information, but you have to make sure that you are mindfully recopying and marking any concepts that you dont understand/need to go over more with a tab. then, before the exam, take those recopied notes and condense them into a review guide, helping you be the most prepared for the exams as you can be. #getcollegeready
+Pls no THIS WAS SO THOROUGH! thank you!
+Katherout no problem!
+Tamar Dropkin love this one!
+Maggie Guy examples are key
The best study hack that I always use is if there is something that I know I'll put off or there is an assignment due, I will write it down on a sticky-note and stick it to the inside of my laptop next to the trackpad. This way, every time I open my laptop to do anything except for the task I'll feel super bad and guilty for procrastinating until I finally give in and do the task! It's helped so much, it's almost like I'm nagging myself haha #getcollegeready
Omg I love this tip thanks for sharing👍
No way, I do the same thing!
no problem LillyMay G! It's a great trick, isn't it Jessica Carpenter :)
+Mariam Sera wonderful!! i do the same thing
this video is really helpful! a lot of videos I've seen have some ~semi~ helpful tips but they aren't super effective. this video has super practical tips and I've use all of these. the last one is especially helpful, I tutor a girl in math and when I teach her a concept I ask her to try to teach it back to me and it really helps me see what parts she struggles with and what parts she understands
+JessaJay so smart!!
:) You are so nice to always respond :)
+Ana Sofía being self-aware and learning how you learn best is so wise!
My favorite study hack is to think of a reward for completing my work! It can range from a weekly reward like going to a movie on Friday night or going out to get my favorite dessert, or it could be something to do at the end of the day like watching a TV show or giving myself time to draw. Love your videos, they're always so helpful!
+Leesh_115 rewards are always a good idea!
Your thumbnails are the best
+Sir Luis thanks!
Yes!! I have been slacking a little bit on my homework! This motivated me to do better! love your videos!
+Kaitlyn Corlett thanks for da support
I just finished re-watching your video about junior year.
My tips for a good studying
a. Set the time for 30 minutes and study it helps get the work done faster
b. Put away any kind of devise that are distracting
+Kayla Marie that's a great study routine!
+Nicki Panayotou thanks so much, nicki!
Katherout of course, i love your videos!
+Madison More wow super creative!
I totally agree with the over-learning and rewritting hack. Rewritting things, for me at least, definitely helps when trying memorize vocab or formulas
+Jenny H RT girl
I study by printing out lecture slides the night before and reading through them. Then throughout the lecture I have more time to listen to the lecturer and annotating small details instead of frantically taking notes down. Then after lectures I like to go through with a highlighter to read the slides and notes again, emphasising anything important and writing any hard to remember equations or terms on post its over and over again!
+Tina Z i've been starting to use this strategy and it's worked our really well!
These are my 6 tips for successful studying or doing homework
1: Put calm music to get you in the mood of studying I us Pandora and search instrumental studying music so I could concentrate on my work
2: Have a bottle of water and some type of fruit so if you get hungry you don't have to constantly get up and get food
3: Put away all your electronics exempt if your listening music so if you get a notification you don't have to get distracted
4: Light up a candle so the smell will get you focused so you could finish studying or doing you homework
5: Wear comfortable clothes so you could focus or else you will feel uncomfortable and not focus a lot
6:Have natural light coming out of a window next to you to put you in a mood to finish studying or finishing your homework
I hope this helped you guys and I use these tips everyday.
+Dorka Kardos just checked out coffitivity and i love it!
#GetCollegeReady
1) CORNELL NOTES ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND WHEN READING YOUR TEXTBOOK: Having a simple and specific way to write down key points is extremely helpful, they're also a great referencing tool to study later.
(I PROMISE THIS ISN'T SPONSORED LOL)
Sincerely, A high school senior who takes entirely too many AP Classes. Thanks and Gig em!
+Isley Andraia good luck with your APs and thank you SO SO much for sharing your best tips!
#GetCollegeReady Besides the great tips you gave,
1) When studying, I set a timer for how long I need to work then, take a short break.
2) I get motivated by thinking about hardships I would have if I failed.
3) I try to work with or around people who are also studying. Even if its not the same assignment, being in a working environment helps!
+I am Hannah Montana totally understand that!
Oh my god... I love your videos. You just got a subscribed. Keep it up :) You really inspire me to get off of UA-cam and get studying :)
+Kristen i do the same thing!
+Ansleigh Jade YES exactly
I can't study with music for this simple fact: even if it doesn't have words, i just start playing air guitar or air drums xD ( yes I'm wierd )
And besides heavy metal doesn't go well with a calm and quiet study time :D
My study tips:
1- for long term studying, take breaks often! If you cannot concentrate come back to it because if you're in anyway distracted you will not be at your best to retain info.
2- When reading thru notes, try to really understand the concept and analyze it. I recommend this for history classes because it is more analytic than something like biology where memorizing AND knowing the info is best:)
#getcollegeready
+Rachel H thanks so much!
I totally recommend the Hans Zimmer station on Pandora for studying! #getcollegeready
+Holly Brooke YES YES YES
I use my TAs as resources! I go through lectures, rewrite notes, and work with my friends in understanding the material. If I come across something confusing or I realize I have a clear question, I will write it down and set up a time to meet with the TA. That way I can get a FULL understanding of the material, and usually learn more than I expected. (Also thanks to Katherout I change study locations, use "self control", and take breaks with her weekly vlogs.) #GetCollegeReady
+IZZE SMILES SUPER wise of you! love your katherouttings breaks as well
I find u so inspiring Katherine I'll definetly add all of these tips to use
+Maxine Cyriaque YAY!
+Symone Elizabeth i feel ya there
If I don't want to get anything done, I tell myself that I'll work for 5 minutes and if I don't want to continue I can stop.
+Sara A. super organized, Sara!
When I have a lot of big ideas or parts that I need to be able to hash
out from memory, I like to make pneumonic acronyms for myself.
For example, I had an economics class last semester that had TONS of
lists of related concepts that I had to memorize so that I could explain
them or use them to answer application questions on a test. One set of
info I had to memorize was the 7 Goals of Economics, so I came up with
"FEES, FEPS, and homie G" to help me remember. I know that sounds kinda
stupid, but I still know them 3 months after I finished that class:
-economic (F)reedom
-economic (E)quity
-economic (E)fficiency
-economic (S)ecurity
- (F)ull (E)mployment
-(P)rice (S)tability
-economic (G)rowth
Also, I find that reading my notes out loud to myself helps me,
especially when it's really late and I'm just starting to study for a
test. Even if I'm too tired for my visual cortex to process all the
words, my auditory cortex is still absorbing at least a litte
information. Plus, when what I'm saying starts to sound mumbley and
slurred, I know to stop for a second and wake myself up a little.
I also prefer to work in soft, natural light. I guess it's comforting
and less stressful in some way ¯\(ツ)/¯
I also sometimes use the Pomodoro method to stay more efficient with my
time. The typical interval with this method is 25 minutes of work with 5
minutes of break, and then 15 minutes of break every 4 cycles. I tend
to let myself break for more than 5 minutes, but I think its still
helpful, and there's lots of apps for Pomodoro timers.
#getcollegeready
+Brianna Clayton SAME HERE
You're a life saver! :') I feel 20 times more motivated! ☺️
+Arfa Haque i'm so glad you do!!
Great advice! Thank you Katherine x
+Bethany Dempster of course
The best way from me to study is to go through my text book and highlight and write in the notes that I took for a class then go back through and read them. I don't do well with remembering things if I write my own notes so this really helps. I also listen to classical music when I study because there are no words so I don't feel the need to sing along.
+Kaylan ❣ agh yeah i always like to sing along if i'm alone
Something that help me is, if I have difficulty with a concept or I have difficulty with remembering something by heart, I read my note about that, 10 min before to go to bed. Sleeping help to consolidate that information and the next morning it will be more easy to remember.
P.S. thank you for your video. I very enjoy this channel and your vlog channel.
+Journal of a Fan i've heard that too! glad you have been enjoying both of my channels!
Such great tips!!
I love study hacks....😊😊😊
A study hack I do is 15 minute interval with a few minute break and in between my study times I love listening to motivational speeches and videos.
+Ashley Love TED talks are so great
The best thing that helped me was to videotape every review and lecture because repetition is key for me.
+Teresa Hunt wish all my profs allowed filming!
I visited USC yesterday and it is so beautiful omggggg I wasn't expecting it to be so pretty
+Elizabeth G i wasn't either! glad you loved it
I like to make my own monthly calendar in the front of the spiral I use for my classes. I like to have everything I need to know in one place. Having my study material, calendar, and to-do list all in the same spiral helps my mind get in the right mood for studying. #getcollegeready
+Andrea Zearley super organized! amazing
Such great tips! Thanks!!
+Jenn E you are so welcome!
The important thing I learned was that:
1. It is important to work with a friend with a similar level of knowledge regarding the chapter (so that it can be a dynamic conversation, not just one person teaching the other!)
2. Set a goal in mind for when you want to have the study guide done by (if you say "we will be done by 8" then it keeps the two of you focused)
3. Make sure you are CREATIVE when making the study guide!!!! (this was vital to me. Use pictures from the internet, colored text, unique font. Make it fun, because the more you make it your own, the more likely you are to remember it!) Don't go overboard though :)
#GetCollegeReady
+Kaleolani L love #3 especially!
Thank You! I Love your videos so much :D
I'm a science major so I always pull the learning outcomes and mastering concepts from the textbook and write as much as I can about the topic to answer it in a word document. I find I work better off sheets of paper then flash cards!! I also love your videos. #getcollegeready
+Kathryn Maiato that sounds so great. really really good stuff
Using the Cornell notes method really helps with sinking the information in a variety of ways #getcollegeready
+Katherine Arboleda learned that in high school so i see how useful it must be for you!
+Rachel Nikki see through is so cool!!
Haha when I found them in the store I was like.."We're living in the future!!"
To add on to what you said in your last tip, I try to leave some time to talk the material over with someone else before a test. I also try not to study at least 30 minutes before a test so I don't stress myself out too much.
+Tiffany Velazquez i do the same thing!!
One thing that I like to do is OUTLINE when I'm reading! I was required to do it in my AP US History class, but I found it helps me actually read the material and recreate the terms and concepts. I especially for biology love to draw diagrams and tables and processes out. #GetCollegeReady :-)
+Shakira Stowers you go girl
Do you have a video about what to expect if you're attending business school ?
I'm in high school an one thing that works for me is recording myself reading my notes from class and playing the recording back several times to ingrain concepts into my memory...It's kind of boring but it works 😄
+Lindsay Albert if you're an auditory learner that would work really well!
I have two study hacks to add, which are both to do with planning:
1. every Sunday, make a detailed plan for the following week on a piece of paper, plan out every hour and what you're going to be doing - eg attending a class or doing a specific piece of homework.
2. prepare in advance - before the start of the semester make a start on the reading list and review relevant previous material, and during term before each lecture or class read the notes beforehand so you get the basic ideas in your head first, allowing you to concentrate on the harder or more detailed information you are learning in the class itself
#GetCollegeReady
+Katie P so wonderful! thanks
is it bad im procrastinating on something thats already overdue.....?
I use concept maps and flashcards. Flashcards really help me to memorize information, while concept maps help me to connect everything that I learned. I use quizlet a lot for flashcards but sometimes it helps me more to just write them all them out. #getcollegeready
+Emily M writing is a lot better for your memory!
+Emily Leung collaborating on notes is so helpful!
Love this! So helpful
+Official Cassidy glad it was!!
+Katherout omg you responded! Love you and your channel soo much! :)
I've found that if I don't take a break where I just sit down and be lazy in my room throughout the day and save my lazy room time for all at once at night. It's much easier to stay moving and then go into studying than to lay down and watch Netflix for an hour and then go into studying.
💙💙i love your eyes 💙💙 theese were very useful
I usually go on Spotify or 8tracks and curate my own study playlists. Basically I just go to the pre-made study playlists they have, pick out my favorites, and use that to study. #getcollegeready
+TheCarolina2004100 oooooh 8tracks is a good one
I love your channel so much!
+Gabby LaMotte thanks
My study tips would be : 1. When I have really long texts or paragraph at history for example what I like to do is recording myself reading that paragraph and listening to this multiples time an till I memorize it , it's just make it more easy for my
2. I like to decorate my notes because when I do it it help me to memorize them more quickly
3. I also like to give myself a test after every chapter that I learn because in that way I can be sure that I understood everything
( sorry if I made grammatical mistakes but I am not English )
Me* not "my" on the first tip
What I do is go to the library because I can use the computers there and it is really quiet!
Love u...
+Shadie Lite love u too!
#getcollegeready Every few pages of my textbooks, I put a post-it with a reward written on it. For example, "Get a snack!" "Watch a UA-cam video" etc.
+Sam Goldenberg that's super original!
+Katherout (most definitely got it out of a magazine. most definitely will take the credit)
My study hack is to rewrite notes that I may have rushed through and don't quite understand that way I can retain the information better than I had previously! #getcollegeready
+Maria Hoover always a good idea!
I'll use these for next quarter since I just finished my last final an hour ago.
+Candyicsma congrats!! you must feel great

4:30 I have some difficulty understanding. Tried to write it down. I got this: ' Definitely start with the term and definition and mixing those that started with the definition abiding the term and the term abiding the definition but the reality is on the test'. Maybe she said 'inviting' instead of abiding? Need some help please.
skincare routine please!! your skin is flawless!!!
+Michele Lin three tips that are definitely helpful
You're so pretty! And this was helpful👌❤️
+DianeCrystal so glad you found it useful!
My tip is to write down all the schedules and todos on the planner. Just because people forget things. :) #GetCollegeReady
+Koko Plus Yeah I've started getting bad about writing stuff down. I need to start doing that again :/
Love these hacks!
+Karen and Sarah YAY
im a person wich procrastinates all the time, the thing that makes me work is simply being with someone else wich is working. all i need is for someone else to be next to me so that it pressures me into working #getcollegeready
+anais fangirl social pressure can be positive!
+charissa Corpuz my bed is never a good idea lol
This is definitely going to help me 😝
+Katie_ that's what i like to hear!!
+Katie_ that's what i like to hear!!
Tip one! Don't watch UA-cam videos or Netflix while you're studying or doing homework! It's totally something I used to do and just thought that I'd warn you all- IT DOES NOT WORK AND YOU NEED TO STOP :)
Tip two!
+Hamster Gurl UA-cam sucks all my time away so I definitely have to restrain myself!
TO EVERYONE: I highly highly reccomend the program Anki, its similiar to quizlet but a million times better and im not going back. What would take me 3 hours to study on quizlet only takes me 1 hour on Anki.
+perfumeorpoison interesting! i'll try it out
I am just commenting because I comment on every video!! :)
I highly recommend listening to the 'Intense Studying' playlist on Spotify while studying! #getcollegeready
+Laveena Y will have to check that one out!
omg I can't use music. I've never had a attachment with music. I just like listening to the AUDIO of youtube/cable/Netflix LOL
Woah those are some blue eyes!
+YUNGGOONSHOT :)
+Katherout one would say Mesmer"eyes"Ing!
KATEROUT
