Woodturning - HUGE Tree Root. You wont believe what this turned into?

- So this is it , my last video of the year. It was dangerous too say the least. This tree root was massive and I found it on eBay. I had no idea what I was going to make for you all with this as it was so big and didn't fit on my lathe until I made some alterations. This was so scary and I almost quit. I hope you enjoy it!

After watching your videos for ages I’ve finally got myself a small lathe, a cheapo set of turning tools and the essential pot of Yorkshire Grit 😃 everyone has to start somewhere - thanks for all the inspiration 👍

@@DiamondsandDobermans I got a large as a Christmas gift a few years back, have turned a few small projects, but can't seem to find a local distributor for the Yorkshire Grit. I don't use anything but cash and am disabled with no bank accounts, so no access to cards, so no online shopping. I live out in the country and my nearest city is Louisville, KY. Does anyone know of a store in that area that carries the product? With my limited income I can't just drive around looking. I have yet to find a woodturner's/woodworker's shop/source in the area at all. Thanks

Well... I thought you were going to do more circular indents/inverted ridges? as the shape tapered up which you would fill with translucent resin, sort of like garland. I obviously thought it was going to be a tree. I would have done different sized round indents and then partially inlaid either real Christmas balls or resin ones with embeds or tinsel. I thought the round ball shape was going to be for the top of the tree like a star. Obviously I was completely off base. Lol. The Christmas Moogu is perhaps more fun and definitely more unexpected. I will be calling all eyeless, mouthless Xmas trolls/gnomes/elves Moogus from here on. Happy Christmas and New Years to you and Charlie and the rest of the family. PLEASE get the title right. it is NOT a tree ROOT. Roots are what are in the ground, this bit is obviously been growing ABOVE ground as it has BARK and also all the branches that have been cut off.

Firt thought when I saw the blurb for the video was - "NO! No more videos?!" But then after I opened it up I saw it was the 'last video for the year;' whew - thank goodness. // I was thinking you were going to make a Christmas tree - a cone shape with layers to make it look like layers of leaves, a base, a long hole cut up the middle, holes drilled in the 'tree' thru to the hollowed out inside, the base cut to hold a light, and either store bought plastic bulbs to fit the holes (or maybe you'd make resin bulbs) with a star (plastic bought or you make one in resin) for the top. Well, maybe next year?
