Many years ago, my family and I, visited the Waterford crystal factory, where we were shown a one off piece. The glass blower had blown a bowl which on inspection showed a row of small bubbles. It was about to be smashed, when an engraver stopped him. He took it away and engraved a gold fish below the row of bubbles. It's now on display in the Waterford crystal museam. So you see, on man's imperfection, is another man's inspiration

If you ever have a similar blank with lots of bubbles and want to try something different, you could drill long and relatively thin (3mm?) channels into it (so that all the air chambers are connected) - which can make a lot of different patterns (from the 'bottom' only for a less invasive look, parallel lines all the way through for a stricter feel, or spherically oriented towards the center for a 'starburst' effect), then fill in the voids with coloured resin - fluorescent with a UV light would make it pop (if the UV can penetrate deep enough into the resin, it tends to soak up a fair bit). That would make turning it a bit easier, as well. Just a thought.

All true artist are very hard on themselves. It's only human. I love the "happy accidents" as Bob Ross once said. I've made my share over the years painting. I love yours too. Just look at the beautiful light sculpture you've made. Even the angled wood adds to the cool effect. Love it. Great work and video.

This sort of thing is why I follow you, that is beautiful. So random, especially where it came from but it looks the part. Nicely done mate.

When I first saw all the bubbles in the epoxy I figured that the bubbles would be too close to the surface to turn it down much without getting into and opening up the bubbles. I figured the only way to shape it much would have been to rough it up, clean it off, and then put it into a larger container(top side down) and pour more epoxy around it and then once that set up good you could do some serious shaping and never touch the bubbles.

You could have put it in a bigger container, filled it up with clear resin with glitter, put the whole thing in the vacuum pot to fill the voids with the resin, then cured it in the pressure pot, before turning it on the lathe. But it still looks amazing as it is!

Pretty cool. A rotating set of LEDs changing colors would be neat underneath.

It looks like an explosion you captured in resin. The light is perfect, you can see everything. I'm glad you saved it. Nothing is ever a mistake, just a future piece of art.

How lovely! Thank you for making a fail into funk-tastic. Sometimes you just need some distance from a fail to get that new perspective.

That bit of wood looks inside looks like it's growing from the base through the resin. Looks Ace.
