I have owned this player for one year, and here are my experiences: 1st. The LG supports 4K UHD disks with automatic Dolby Vision + HDR playback, and films look great when transporting the media to modern OLED panels. I have had one movie freeze in my ownership, and there are two observations. The film was Transformers (1st in the series by Michael Bay), and the disk was dirty and I accidentally closed a console door leaving the LG player without cooling. The disk froze at one point and I immediately opened the console door, inspected the disk, cleaned the disk, and it played flawlessly afterwards. The Transformers 4K movie is a 4K 100gb disk and was the only film in my collection with a single issue. I've played a few dozen 4K 100gb files reliably. 2nd. Bluray disks are also transported and displayed above expectations. This unit upscales the media, and everything looks great sans the lack of dolby vision. But, if you are lucky enough to find a bluray disk with atmos support (Gravity as an example), it looks fantastic and the audio is amazing with a dedicated surround sound system with atmos speakers. You cannot go wrong with playing older blurays in your collection with the LG player. Here is where I have negative thoughts about the player. You can look away if you are a LG fan or hate criticism of your preferred brand ;). 3rd. The player is terrible with transporting DVD playback. DVD films are nearly unwatchable and this is due to players requirement to upscale the media prior to sending this to a large 4K panel. You cannot decrease the resolution or generally modify DVD playback settings. I have tested many DVD's on this player with the same results, and cannot recommend that anyone use it for a DVD collection. LG no longer sells or supports this unit so it is doubtful that a firmware update will be offered in the future.
I'm just about to buy my first 4K player. Your review has persuaded me to get the LG BK90. Thanks for the useful information. Just what I was looking for.
I got one of these yesterday. When playing a 4k disc. I changed picture mode to Vivid or user preference and look fabulous, but when I turn off it goes back to standard. I have to change again. Called LG and they said to default it and try again. Any issue with that ?
Haven't had that issue. My new Sony X90CH TV when playing a Dolby Vision program only offers Dolby Vision Bright, Dolby Vision Dark, or Vivid for picture mode choices. I almost always pick Dolby Vision Bright. When the disc is done, picture setting automatically goes back to my custom SDR settings. Works really well, sorry I don't have insight into your issue.
@@bohemiantech9110The picture setting is on the LG player. Out of the box it's set to standard, but I can change it Vivid or user profile which works great. It's under settings on the main LG player screen/picture profile. Thanks for your help
Because it was being sold at a warehouse club (in this case Costco) rather than a regular retail store. And likely to prevent price matching at other stores. I picked up this player at Costco at the time for $99. But even now a year and a half later, you can find the UBK90 for $250 in some places.
@@bohemiantech9110 I bought the UBK90 this morning from Amazon for £220 in the UK. I really wish they put a screen on the middle. There's plenty of space. It's a little too big and chunky I think but I've bought it anyway hoping it'll be perfect with my LG 4K TV. I'll probably miss my current LG HD DVD player only because it has a screen on the middle and it's a bit smaller. Had it for 6 years and I haven't had a problem with it.

@@JGisMe2013 At the time I uploaded this video, the LG player was connected to a Samsung KS8500 TV. Currently connected to a Sony X900H TV. Works great on both. I've sometimes had connectivity issues with both TV's and other devices, and rebooting the TV (not just turning it off and on, actually hit RESTART on the Sony) often helps.
@@JGisMe2013 I had the exact same problem with the new 4K Apple TV. I couldn't get Dolby Vision out of that thing on a reliable basis on my X900H to save my life. I ended up returning it and obviously not doing a UA-cam video about it.
Nope, only from a usb drive connected directly to the player. Honestly if you're looking to stream anything besides Netflix or UA-cam, this will not be your player. You're better off getting a Roku/Chromecast/FireTV for streaming anything (including your own media files).
I paid $208.44 last October from Best Buy... here's the kicker, that was the open-box price 0_0 overall it was a fine purchase, my LG OLED looks amazing with this player. I would change the HDMI Color Setting to RGB it takes the picture quality to the next level.

No sweat. Happy to be of service!
Great player. Can you also reach and write to the player via network if there is a external HDD connected to it?
Nope. That network/wifi connection is strictly for Netflix, UA-cam, and software updates.
LG UBK 90 has minimal menu settings options and sluggish response remote. However, it does produce excellent video.

Here in Arizona the costco stores do not carry blueray players
Unfortunately, my local Costco just sold out, and apparently won't be getting any new models in to replace them.
Why did they add the C if it's exactly the same player as the UBK90?

Will this model switch dolby vision automatically? I know sony 4k players cannot do this. Also can the usb slot output dolby vision and dolby atmos?
Yes, turned on Dolby Vision automatically when I started playing 2001 a Space Odyssey. Not sure about the USB slot.

Idk why none of the major HT/Audio UA-camrs talk about this player. It seems to do just as much as the Sony X800m2 but significantly less

Bohemian Tech. Thank you for your expertise and advice.

What reason did you change the 60hz to 24hz on the display mode?
Because 24fps is the speed film runs at. So the 24hz setting matches the player frame rate to the disc frame rate. Hope that helps!

Does it play SACD's?
Nope, and doesn't do DVD-Audio discs, either. Hope that helps.
It's not all plastic. The bottom is clearly aluminum.

why is this 250 euro atm? :§
It's not made of all plastic. It's metal as well.
I have an LG UBK90 4K UHD player which is multi region
Cool. I need to do something like that so I won't need a region-free BD player next to the LG on the shelf.
@@bohemiantech9110 I have the multi region player because I enjoy watching movies and tv shows from various parts of the 🌏 on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD

Nope, it's locked to region 1 for DVD's, region A for Blu Ray discs. Far as I know, 4k Blu Ray discs don't have region coding so it's cool there.
Funny how you mentioned how cheap it looked. Especially after you told everyone that you got it super cheap.
