Hi Esiri, just fyi, the situation in Vietnam has changed a lot in the last year and there are things about the ESL market that perhaps you are not aware of. My partner and I are both native English speakers from North America and we have not been able to find decent jobs for 3 months now (we have TEFL + degrees). Most offers are for only a few hours per week at after school centres and at a pay rate that is not enough to live comfortably. As well, the Vietnamese government has recently passed laws regarding changing the English language requirement in schools-as of 2025, English will no longer be a mandatory subject and we have heard that schools have started firing their ESL teachers already. Also, the Vietnamese gov has introduced a re- patriation program for Nigerian citizens who are now stuck in Vietnam because they are unable to find work. It is very nice that you have been able to find amazing work in Hanoi and I hope it continues for you however, I think this video paints an unrealistic expectation for everyone.
@@deenadeeva ya it's not pleasant and I feel like it is not discussed on youtube. Coming to try to get a job in Vietnam is super glamorized right now and made to seem like it is easy and jobs are plentiful when the reality is that many things have changed and there is a massive influx of job seekers and less work.
I’m glad I found this channel! I’m South African and I’m currently teaching in South Korea, I’ve been considering Vietnam for a while now! I get paid really well here, but the cost of living and the general work culture here is craaaazy😩
Hi Ladies, can you please share your experience with teaching in Korea? I’m a South African currently weighing my options. Any advice would be much appreciated.
I love your outlook on life, I'm not saying "live in a bubble",but you just have a very positive view of life. Nigerians are sometimes conditioned to be miserable , and I'm Nigerian btw,so I know this, but you somehow find a way to romanticize everything... I love it.
Vietnamese students seem to be more obedient to their teachers compared to other countries, most Vietnamese students respect their teachers and parents respect their teachers more, of course there are some exceptions, but compared to other places, this percentage is less.
Another great video Esiri ❤️I’ve been following you for a couple of months now, your experience, I see, has been more than satisfying, but boy did I hear stories about bad teaching experiences in Vietnam. 🙈 I know you won’t disclose your school’s name for privacy reasons, but I do hope to land a job in a school like yours. Still can’t choose between Hanoi and HCM tho. 😅
Thank you, I’m very grateful for my school, fingers crossed it remains like this for me haha. I’ve never been to HCMC so I can’t say, however Hanoi is a vibe, love it here.
If you can't handle air pollution and you love tropical weather year round, come to HCM. Plus it's more liberal down here, open to the west. Very comfortable easy place for a westerner to be but still Vietnam

It's been long you did videos on teaching in Vietnam. I heard that there are some regulations that are anti-Nigerians or non native speakers. Can you do a video on government policies regarding ESL in Vietnam. Such as "English is no longer compulsory in Vietnam"
Nigerian embassy will offer a repatriation flight, a lot Nigerians came with a tourist visa and couldn't find a job. They even came with little kids. I am a non native and white and it's not difficult for me. I even got selected instead of black native speakers.
Hello Esiri, thanks for the great content you're pushing out. I have someone who is interested but would like to know the process of coming over. What she'll need in terms of cost and documentation. I'll be glad if i can get clarity on her behalf.
Hi, what about hourly pay / monthly salary to expect as non-native full time teacher in a public school in Vietnam? I heard around 450-500k vnd/hour, 35/40 million vnd/month… is it good or low?
Good job esiri. Considering the exchange rate to a dollar. What is the one document to legalize to get a teaching work permit to Vietnam from Nigeria. Thank you
One question, please! What is a realistic salary for a first time teacher with a British Passport? Also, where would you recommend for one to look and when is the best time to start searching, thank you so much!
It was cheap 10 years ago, it's affordable now but in 10 years there will be a lotof trapped English teachers with no transferable skills. I always think it is better to make good money rather than try to live somewhere cheap. It's an offensive vs a defensive mindset in my opinion. Also, something to consider about VN is the quality of ingredients. Food is cheap for a reason, you cant safely produce meat for prices some places charge, the food standards are not as strict as Europe etc. I ended up with malnutrition, and entomobea policki from contaminated meat back in 2016 and realised that VN was a lot of fun, but over the long term there is a reason Vietnamese are lining up at the embassies trying to get out.
Pls kindly help address if there are public school that English is used purely to teach, because if I come with my boys, was wondering how they could be taught at school tanks
You are coming with children? My god!! Even in public schools are for vietnamese students. Vietnamese government will not give you free things to encourage foreigners to come. Wrong country.
I want to move and teach but I haven’t finished my degree. I’ll only have a TESOL certificate and a bit of work experience 😢 any advice? I’ve taken a year off my degree and I still have a year and half to go.

I think the requirement is a bachelor's degree. You've got a master's, so you're good. But you'll still need a teaching certificate.
