Great video Dan! Something I have been wondering about. I used to use terrible products for my hair, but since I started my bearded journey I have switched to quality products and it has been a game changer. I usually use the seven potions sea salt spray for my head hair and will follow it up with seven potions clay or scotch porter hair balm. My scalp and head hair have never felt better.

For my hair, which is a classic/Princeton cut, I massage a little bit of beard oil into my scalp then comb through. I've done this for years after a barber recommended putting argan oil in my hair, and it does good things, particularly for dandruff.

You said it, common sense! I do use sea salt spray on my thin short hair. I no longer use clay since I realize it makes my hair more oily, especially by noticing my shiny, oily forehead that I struggled not understanding why, and now I know. It's the pomades and clays that spread down from my scalp. Now I no longer have a shiny forehead. Thank God! Anyway, I know you had to bring this up again. I hope this is going to settle down - great video, Dan as always. 👌🏻

I have to say that i use Beardbrand sea salt spray on my beard with good results. It adds additional volume and, in combination with their styling balm, it provides a level of hold that I find hard to achieve with balms or waxes. But you are right, it can dry out my beard so i always follow up at night with butter or oil to restore the hydration.

I have not tried sea salt spray on my head yet, but I use Ruezel Hair tonic then Ruezel clay pomade at the moment. I’ve tried the red and pink container of their pomade and next will try the green which is more of an oil based pomade. The colors represent different strengths and types. Pink smells like a pillow fight with two women in heaven by the way. Great stuff. The tonic really gives you a lot of volume when used with a blow dryer and gives a almost gel/hairspray feel when used by itself.

Length does dry it out...any suggestions of how to tame my beard without it?

I use hair clays and matte pastes, however I've never had the issue of debris or still feeling like there's product in my hair when I go to bed. Granted, I use a blow drier and typically don't use more than a dime sized amount of product, so I don't know if maybe that's where our experiences differ.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on sea salt spray. I saw lots of videos of guys swearing by it so I tried some Every Man Jack sea salt spray in my beard and hair. I've got longer hair and at first liked it in both but after a couple of weeks I did notice my beard being dryer I really didn't like the effect of it in my hair either. Made it kind of seem like it hadn't been washed. Wasn't good for me so I had to stop.

So right on the beard getting dry without care! I went to bed one night and didn’t put in any butter. I woke up and my beard felt really dry! Thank goodness I used conditioner that morning to bring life back into it!
I too tried the Beardbrand sea salt spray and I didn’t like the feeling it left in my beard. I felt kind of dirty!

  • @TheSerenescaper
    @TheSerenescaper 4 роки тому +1

Absolutely agree with it. I've used my own DIY sea salt spray on my head hair and experimented it on my beard too. Didn't like the feel as it made it very dry despite using oil beforehand. I stick to the hair cream by Detroit grooming co for my head hair. Amazing product. Gives me adequate hold all day long and doesn't leave my hair feeling dry and itchy.
As for the beard, my routine is beard oil first after towel drying it, followed by blow drying and then balm/wax depending on the occasion. Has worked just fine for me for months.
Btw, badass beard brother. Looking better than ever! *touchwood*

I use the sea salt spray exclusively for my mustache since I use it long and untrimmed to keep the hairs out of my mouth, I love how it works on my mustache and I prefer it a thousand times over wax.
In the entire other area of the beard I only use oils.
I do notice a little more dryness in the mustache area but I combat it by adding oil to the mustache area before going to sleep.

I'm 48 and I've had short hair all my life. Primarily because I didn't think growing out my hair would be a good look due to my hair type. I didn't know anything about hair products...a typical guy. My fiancé owns a hair salon, and she convinced me to grow out my hair (facial too). I've only had a couple trims since I met her 2.5 years ago. I have a very dense head of curly dishwater blonde hair, but the strands are very fine...and dry. If I don't do anything with it, it looks like a huge fro. Along with her help, I've done a TON of research (my specialty), trying to figure out how to get it under control, and I think I've finally succeeded. With that said, I use the following:
    1. Formulate custom shampoo and conditioner.
    2. Velona Babassu oil
    3. Burgati leave-in conditioner.

A guy I knew (turned out to be not a very nice person in the end) got into an argument with me because I disagreed with him and let him know that sea salt was bad for your beard and it worked differently on head hair. As you said soul brotha, he was going with the research done on head hair, not on Beards. Thanks for the vid as always my man!👊🏾

So everything that Coach says here is 100% correct, but there is one exception: Bed Beard. Sea salt spray is an excellent for makeshift repairs and taming when you can't shower or do a full sink wash. I've used it once or twice when I woke up late, stayed out all night or got severely windblown.

I use sea salt spray for my hair at least 3 times a week and the residue of my beard balm for styling. For my beard, if i try to straight it out and it looks not as good as i thought i would spray it a couple of times to get it to curl, but thats not often at all.
