First step....take the roofs off and spray them Matt grey. This makes a huge difference.

I have a largish amount of these, I repainted some in GWR green and the others into Brunswick green. Good little runners and with a few waterslide transfers they look OK. being small and light a small loco can pull a good number of them.

    Hello Paul
I also have a few of those carriages as well from that well known web site that I won job lots on. I was initially going to re-sell them but then I had a rethink and decided to keep them and re-paint them in Crimson Lake as that is what colour the coaching stock is in the era and area that I am modelling. If you are not modelling any specific era or area then you can’t beat either Crimson Lake or Teak, I hope this helps...
Stay safe, keep sharing and model on.
    Regards
    Lee@NEAR

Thanks Lee, im modelling late 60s early 70s, but im not being totally obsessed, i just stay away from newer stuff, but work on the basis that anything much older is game.

I’ve got a few of these - five of the ordinary and five of the yellow track cleaner variety. I had in mind to make up some yellow engineering trains (along with a few of the old four wheel maintenance crane wagons)

Hi Martin, i did a little video of a maintenance set i concocted, only thing missing is a crew coach, i will get back to it and sort, but the little carraiages would work for crew coaches and with some blanking of windows, tool trucks too maybe.

@@recycledmodelrailways8655 Paul - I’ve just had a look at the other video, I like those ideas. That’s what I had in mind but you’ve got a lot further on than I have. I need to start things moving again.

After watching your plea for help. Here are my suggestions. 1. You could cut up one or 2 coaches to make a 3 Axel coach. 2. You could lengthen the coach by making something more accurate in lenght to the GWR 4 wheel coach. 3. You could make the chassis into a On30 waggon or coach by discarding the coach body and making a new body. 4. You could mount the coach body onto an N guage chassis and have a OOn2 narrow guage coach. Regards Andrew Johnson.

I think the chocolate and cream colours of the last coach look rather smart! The gold looks good but just a bit much too be honest. Not a recommendation on what you should do, but I've considered heavily kit bashing one of these into a Wisbech and Upwell tramway coach, not sure how it would be done, but considering these are easy to come by I don't think its a poor choice to experiment with them

sorry for late reply, stepped away from YT for a while but back now and catching up with missed comments. Very overdone, i agree, sat messing with a gold pen one night, they look crap. I have an idea for them which will appear at some point after other projects i now have going

Bit too much gold bling for me mate, other than that maybe convert one into a brake coach. I've got a few brown ones, I give them a run once in a while behind a 0-4-0 like yours just for a change. It's your railway so your rules.

Cheers Kevin, i agree i went overboard with the gold, was just messing to see where i could go. As mentioned elsewhere, a coat of grey primer will be best starting point, then go from there

These coaches don’t seem to be based on any particular coach, but they’re very much Victorian.
Personally I’d cut and shut them to make them longer, possibly 6 wheeled, and paint them into a Southern green, tugged along by my Southern green Terrier with a horse box or milk tanker hitched on for a proper local, suburban branch passenger service.
The possibilities are quite endless though to be honest, since no rivet counter can have a go at you for any artistic licence!

I've given some of these LB&SCR and SECR liveries and including with a bit of blanking of windows passable brake coaches

I've now got 7 of these, and I'm going to do them as a Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway rake for my pug. I'v got as far as buying the paint from Phoenix Precision Paints ( www.phoenix-paints.co.uk/products/landyorks ) but as a newbie I haven't plucked up the courage to hand paint them! Any helpful suggestions? BTW, I agree with you about Wordsworth Model Railways site - as a pensioner they have virtually everything you could want for a beginner's pre-war industrial layout! Easily modified or weathered too. Cheers for your videos

Hi TanK, iI predominantly have hand painted my locos and rolling stock. I have sprayed a few with rattle cans, i have a video about it in my uploads. Only suggestions i have are, just my opinion of course. Always wash the model first before doing anything, dry thoroughly and then apply a primer, i use Halfords own, grey or white. Primer depends upon what top colour im using. As for hand painting, stir the paint well, i mostly use Humbrol paint. Use a good quality brush, humbrol brushes are ok and can be ordered online from their store and delivered to the door, saves going out and prices are good. Dont try to get too much paint on in one go, keep a thin coat and got for 2 or even 3 coats, remembering to "lay off" your brush strokes as you go. Final think, give ti a good coat of varnish, matt or gloss. If your applying new transfers, a coat of gloss first, transfers on, then top coat of your choice. Make sure you have correct varnish (acrylic or enamel) dependant upon what paint you used. I tend to stick to humbrol paint with humbrol varnish as i did have a reaction once with the varnish, cant remember why. Would be good to see your end product. Thanks for the comment and question. PAUL
