  • The Wilson Blade 98 16X19 and the Head Radical MP are 2 of the most common control racquets that get compared side by side. This video will help you to understand the specs of each racquet a little bit better and hopefully allow you to come to a conclusion for which racquet may work better for your play style.

I actually own both rackets and something i miss in your video is the grip size. The wilson seems slightly bigger altough i own both these rackets in size 3. Also the way you hold the racket feels different, the grip of the wilson has a more octagon shape where as the radical is more oval shaped.
A big difference is also the way the frame is shaped. The radical is way more round whilst the wilson has sharper straight edges. For me this was something i could not get used to.
I actually prefer the softer feel on impact of the wilson but the "sharp" straight edges of the frame felt weird with my non dominant hand.
So for me the differences in specs are less important than the way you hold the racket.
Like you said, try to demo these rackets before you buy just because of the specs.

That's interesting that you mentioned how the grip size feels a little different. Someone else had made that comment before but I have never personally felt that there was a difference between the two in terms of size when I had them in my hand.
Can you elaborate a little bit more about what you mean when you said that the "sharp straight edges of the frame felt weird with my non dominant hand" please? I want to better understand what you are referring to so that I can make note of this

Yeah I agree about the grip size.

Excuse me if my comment is not clear. English is not my native language.
With the straight edges i mean the frame itself. At the throat where you hold the racket with your non hitting hand.
The head frames are more round at the edges.
I feel i cant really express what i mean but if your really interested i can send you a picture of what exactly i mean.

I know exactly what you mean now! Your English is great, I just wasn't making the connection in my head. I can understand how the different shapes can make you feel that a racquet is not right for you. That's why I will always recommend to demo if available before just outright purchasing a racquet. What is your native language?

I am currently using an ezone 98 with 5 grams of lead on the hoop, 2 grams at 3 and 9 and 1.5 at 12 making the swing weight roughly 331. it does everything I want and I can crush triple digit serves with it.
Since the radical MP is 5 grams lighter, I am wondering if I can apply the same lead to it and get the same swing weight but 5 grams lighter so that I am getting the same kind of precision and power but in a faster package.
Been contemplating this for a while but haven't done anything as I have been playing with my ezone 98 for a few months now and its working great.

Stay with the Ezone it is a stiffer racquet at 65 RA it is an extremely versatile racquet like the Radical but there is more to the game of tennis than just the serve, I would spend the extra cash on some quality tennis lessons.

If your Ezone 98 is doing everything that you want plays well for you then I don't think you should switch to the Radical MP. You like your racquet and I'm going to guess it isn't causing you any arm issues since you have been using it for a few months so there really isn't any reason to switch in my opinion

Where are you getting your stiffness rating for the Wilson 98 Blade? TW has the 16x19 at 62 RA.

Thank you for the comment! I had got my stiffness rating for both the Wilson Blade 98 and Head Radical MP at Tennis-Point's website. That's on me for not doing my due-diligence and only taking one website as fact. I will get better for next time

Just to clarify. 6 blades 98 v9 16x19. Swingweight unstrung varies from 279 to 290. Stiffness from 64 to 66. So please dont look at the specs on website.
p.s. also if you arent at the level, where you have people customizing racquets for you for better results and price money - you dont have to put any more thoughts in a racquet rather than "I like it or I dont like it". Even if you think you have all the strokes:) Racquet customizing is last 5% and everything else is your skill development. Imagine Sinner picking random artenco racquet from a shelf. Would you break him? :D

So you forgot to put up the balance which is a very key variable!

Does weight really matter for rackets like this, when most players will surely add their own?

    • @brodytaylor2020
      @brodytaylor2020  Місяць тому

I always feel that weight is important even in racquets like these because a majority of people I have seen play tend to just use the standard racquet without customizing to different weights at all. They usually just demo the racquets they are interested in, test which racquet weight works and feels best for them, and then just play with the racquet as is without getting into adding weight or anything

I had stability issues when returning fast serves with the Radical MP but once I added 10 gr of lead at 3 & 9 I no longer have the issue. The extra weight however is something that took a bit of getting used to as the screen wiper action got harder to do so I had to increase racket speed a bit consciously otherwise I was hitting too long from the baseline with more weight. I guess anything you customise has an impact but I rather have stability than the racket twisting on power full balls coming at me.
