Back in October, Gibson.com released a new .com exclusive finish - Dark Purple Burst! It ties in with their "Deep Purple" hue but it is transparent and offered on the 50s and 60s Les Paul Standard. They don't tend to keep these in stock as they have been quite popular as Purple Les Pauls are hard to come by at 3k price tags!

Nice playing today. I liked the different style
I tend to like traditional colors on Gibsons, but this guitar looks amazing!!!!!!!!! Absolutely stunning. The only thing I'd change would be the pick guard. I'd put a regular black one on it.
And black pickup rings? And black toggle switch ring? Frankly, I’d prefer black knobs and tuner buttons too. I guess I am looking for a Custom Shop LP:-))))
Gibson can absolutely afford to step out of its comfort zone 👍🏻

33 years ago I saw a purple burst flame top marked "1960" on the pick guard (reissue of course) and swore I would have one.
I bought one of these within a week of their release and got an awesome top.
The 90s Classics' Purple Burst was more of a barney pink/purple hue. If you saw one exactly like this 50s standard - that might be a rare Custom Shop Edition variety!

@@Trog it probably was the custom shop. I know the pinkish one you speak of. This one was a much darker purple. I had to have one 😅
The pickup routs have been very clean recently.
That neck pickup was crazy good!
Looks pretty snazzy, nice top. I’d throw black speed knobs on there, the Amber throws it off for me.
I bought a 60's purple burst a few months ago. Love it! I am a big fan of purple lol. My top is very similar to yours. Weird note.. it did not come with a baby photo. I contacted them and they said they stopped doing them like a month or two before that. I have since purchased two of the new modern lite series and they both had baby photos.
Sounds like they stopped doing it for just a few months and then changed their minds and started doing it again.
Those routs are crazy clean! Surpised you didn't comment on it.

Nice! Guitar Center just released a quilted version of this. Any advise on how to cover the little nail holes if you want to rock this without the pick guard?
It's one of the few perimeter bursts that looks nice to me.
This is the only colour finish Les Paul I'd love, that's a nice darker purple. There's something about it's tone that is more impressive to me than how I feel with other Les Pauls. It seems a nicer clean and it's got the right bridge beefy tone. I feel the clean is richer, fuller and just marginally maybe even sparkly, I just feel it's balance of both, but seems more Bluesy. I'm more into Strats and 335's mostly. As much as I love the guitar, I think wither I'd want the same thing in a Honey Burst or Cherry Burst against maybe or just go with that purple. The fingerboard does look more Ebony, which isn't anything bad, but I do prefer more generic rosewood colour if it's more depending what you get out the box. I would never afford the price of these, but their so versatile and their definitely making me like Les Pauls.

Purple has always been my jam! A 50”s P90 version in the purple burst would definitely become an obsession .
Really nice color, but that needed black plastics. I think that overall most modern agresive colors look better with black plastics, while vintage tend to look better with the cream plastics. thats only my opinion.. It would be nice to have a custom shop run of this ones. Black plastics, gold hardware, white binding, thats my dream LP in terms of look.
But you could easily change to gold hardware and black plastics. That would take the guitar to another level of cool. But the acrylic inlays are a disappointment
@@JokersWild70 Yes, thats an extra money you have to spend. The acrylic inlays are a dissapointment for every USA model considering the costs IMO, but I think they are like that because of the purists.

Awesome guitar!!! I just got the very last limited edition Squier Telecaster from Anderson's in purple. I wanted one a few years ago and finally ordered one when they went on sale last week. Now they no longer have them. So if you have your heart set on this purple Gibson, get it while you can. 🤗😁🤔

Almost too dark, I think purple needs to pop. Great flame though. Bugs me all creme parts not match, but nice dark back, almost makes top pop.

This purple burst is close to my ideal custom design.
It just needs black plastics, knobs and hardware, black tuning tips, and a lighter purple for the binding, and uncovered, black pickups.

Pretty Dark Purple Burst, to bad about the black back but it makes for a good contrast. I love BB1 & BB2 anyway, but the demo was fun, glad to see Trogly try some different riffs.

I'm not sure why, but I have never desired a purple anything. I guess people just like different colors. I love dark forest greens, and some people hate them. I miss dark forest greens with this shift to "olive drab", but i'll survive.

Seems like a niche collector’s guitar. Maybe a few may make it a gigging guitar, but I can’t really see most of us putting it in the rotation. They’re interesting but that’s it for me.

Nice to see Gibson offering all these color options. Great if you are right-handed, however, forget about it if you are left-handed. Heritage Cherry and Goldtop are your options...

I just ordered 60s Purple burst. Went to Google like he said. They don't give you any choice but the one they show you in a picture. 1/30/24. Of course I'm hoping the top looks like Trogleys. But you know they sent him a premium top. But we shall see!

Great video Trogly! I'd love to hear your opinion on Gibson changing the pickups in the USA standards to Burstbuckers across the range whereas they had specific humbuckers for the 50's and 60's models when they launched.
The pickups on this one come across as very chimey, almost single coil-like. Usually I find that a Gibson on the bridge pickup without gain has country twang, but this one I to be shrill like a Strat on the bridge pickup. I'm actually surprised by that and not sure what's making this one so different. I'll admit I'm not a fan of this particular example as a result.
It might just be down to UA-cam doing something to the audio of this video too, at least it looks fantastic

Unfortunately, this finish is a Gibson exclusive, not available on other sites.
I bought a 60's in this burst a few months ago and the top is very similar to this one. I know it's still roll of the dice and I kinda had the same worry when I bought mine, but it sounds like people are getting similar tops from what I have seen others post.
Not to much for the purple but I'd rather the custom you showed briefly.
This Gibson LP is a real dream come true for me, but that money is thru the roof and to the moon! 😩

As much as I love purple, this particular shade isnt working for me. I think I'd rather it have the purple widow hue on it, but it would probably look much cooler with gold hardware and black plastic, with the gold knobs
I’m not a huge purple fan but I think they do look very nice on a Les Paul. I agree with Trog too on the backside….. it would probably look even better if it were a natural gloss finish.
Most purples and some blues are just too dark and eat up the figuring in a flame top. I'd prefer this one and some darker bluebursts in a plain top with a teardrop burst and lower price tag.
