My short fat legs might need some assistance to get into the triangle but once it's locked it's over for my opponent lol

Absolutely. Same problems. Short but strong legs here. Hard to get the triangle. The angle off works though for sure.

I know I´m late in commenting but this video is awesome! This is exactly what I was looking for!
I have short but powerful legs, and I always have an hard time in finishing or even lock a triangle choke. Among the 7 solutions that you showed, switching to omoplata is what comes to me more naturally. Omoplata has actually become my "signature move" and the Triangle is the set up.
I´ll try the other solutions as soon as I´ll train in the dojo
As always thanks Stephan for your amazing work

I joke that I'm a T-Rex trying to do jiu jitsu. Thick legs, short arms, big head, and very strong despite all.
I find open guard is more my speed.

Tryna cut the angle is tricky because I don’t want to let the person go so that they can sit up. I liked how he grabbed the shoulders of the gi to both hold him down and also shift directions

my favourite video so - white belt here - so difficult to get a text book triangle on higher belts. These partial triangle go-to techniques are gold. Thank you.

You can also do a kimura, Americana, variations on the armbar, transition to gogoplata/locoplata/baratoplata, or bicep slicer. One of the submissions shown was a slight variation of the "teepee". Also focusing on the angle and leg curling your hamstring Into their neck is very effective even without the full triangle. Or If you're a dirtbag you can just pull their face into their arm and your body to restrict breathing.

I almost always switch to the arm-bar.

In the "resting" position, the leg that is closest to the neck should be directly on the spine with the other leg over. They don't always do that in this video, but other than that - good stuff.

How about tips for long-legged, tall people? Yes, we can snatch a triangle from far away, but there's tons of space left in there and it's difficult to finish. The same goes for many submissions. And our limbs, while having a reach advantage, are more vulnerable in every way. How bout some tall guy love??

With the arm bar I have been very successful with using the shotgun grip. With the trapped arm take a cross grip, so opponents right arm matched up with your right arm. Sit up while locked in the triangle position, grab under opponents arm pass the tricep trying to get hand under your right armpit. Lock in the hand/arm under the armpit and then hip up. Be very careful when you hip up, because it is a very powerful grip. You can make the arm lock even more powerful by bringing the left leg over their head and actually cross your feet. This is one of the very few times on an arm lock that you cross your feet.

I made this excuse early on. I don't get triangles because I don't practice and drill often enough. I have shortish legs and thickish legs but they are not some Stumpy freak limbs. I think the most important thing is to get on the head and really stop your partner from posturing while you make your adjustments.

You need to add the head crank; put both hands behind the head, and pull down while squeezing legs together and thrusting hips up.

You mentioned helping a smaller person. It's been a long time since I trained--but I'm long and lean and remember one time when I was going for a triangle choke, I started to strain a partner's shoulder and that caused them to tap. I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong and started to go for the submission a lot less.

    • @errcoche
      @errcoche 6 років тому

You don't stop doing a sub because it strains a guy's shoulder Alexander. Depending on body fit you will often get an unexpected tap and pressure on the shoulder is a common reason. Just increase the lock progressively and with attention and learn how the lock works. I always ask after a tap where the pressure was felt and check to make sure my partner didn't feel unsafe or abused. Some guys will try to cover their embarrassment at tapping by claiming a choke was a neck crank or that you were choking them on the jaw ( and of course sometimes it's true )

This will be very helpful for my son who got his mom's shorter Puerto Rican frame vs my 6' 2" so never had this issue. But wish the camera and sound was higher better quality on this one very primitive filming for such a awesome channel.

Ed McGuigan there were time it waa crisp but then would go back to fuzzy pixely and sounded like talking into a glass. But clarity comes and goes no biggie learnt it fine. Just the channel so good like to see top of the line video an sound it deserves it.

Quality was fine for me. Your internet speed might not be good enough to keep the video clear.
