- Interlaced Color Wheel Drafting Tutorial Step-by-Step Guide
Color Theory Assignment for Art and Design Courses
In this tutorial, we’ll guide you through drafting an interlaced color wheel design using precise construction techniques. Whether you're a beginner or honing your drafting skills, follow along to create a detailed geometric layout. Here's what we'll cover:
Steps to Draft the Interlaced Color Wheel:
Prepare the Title Seal:
Leave a 1-inch border around your scholar sheet.
Allocate additional 3-inch margin at the bottom for the title seal.
Find the Center:
Locate the exact center of your sheet.
Draw horizontal and vertical axes crossing at this center point with a 4H pencil.
Draw the Outer Circle:
Set your compass to a 7.5-inch radius.
Draw a circle at the center.
Divide the Circle into 12 Equal Parts:
Keeping the compass at the same radius, place the needle at the axis intersections with the circle.
Draw arcs on both sides of the center.
Repeat this process to divide the circle into 12 equal sections.
Construct the First Square:
Join the intersection points of the axes and the circle to form a square inside the circle.
Draw the Second Square:
Find the midpoints of the sides of the first square.
Extend perpendicular lines from these midpoints until they meet the circle.
Join these points to form a second square interlaced with the first.
Offset the Squares:
Create 1-inch parallel offsets towards the inside of both squares.
Add a Smaller Circle:
Using the same center as the main circle, draw a smaller circle with a 3-inch radius.
Finalize the Draft:
With a 2H pencil, make the required lines solid, following the layout shown in the video.
Key Points:
Use construction lines for initial drafting to maintain clarity and precision.
Maintain consistent pressure on your pencil to avoid smudging or uneven lines.
Ensure your compass and ruler are accurately calibrated for the best results.
