    i have been drawing ever since i was a child, and now that I'm 18, i recently started to learn how to actually draw, your lessons have been the most helpful ones so far and i can already draw so many things just from 3 lessons and a bit of practice, you're absolutely amazing! thank you for your awesome tutorials!

      So glad to hear that! Sounds like you probably have a lot of skills already there from years of drawing but following a set of lessons can really help to identify how you can use those skills. Thanks for watching and best of luck with your drawing!

    This lesson is real useful but it's proven to me that I need to practice more basic shapes and 3d shapes before attempting an actual object because most of what I've drawn is wonky as all hell.

      @ThePencilRoomOnline  Рік тому +11

      It’s a good thing to realise! It’s natural to what to jump ahead to the fun stuff like portraits but just getting the basic shapes flowing naturally will help everything else. Doesn’t mean you have to just do shapes but throw in 10 mins of shapes practice before you draw whatever you want to draw - over time it will all start to come together. Thanks for watching!

      @robertstryjak1973 I agree completely! It's definitely helpful doing something more advanced so you understand what to practice and why!

    I am going back to Lesson 2 to practice some more. My 73 y/o hands aren't what they used to be. Thanks so much for doing these videos. 😊

      Take your time and lots of breaks, especially if you feel any strain in your hands, but it's good to go back and and practice things again because improvement comes through repetition. If you get bored with Lesson 2, try the first two Boost Your Skills lessons as they go back to basics but also give you something different to practice.

    Another great job, Emily. I couldn't get my apple to lean to the side. Any tips? Jar was ok. More practice, lots more practice with the ellipse. (hahaha...) Carol

      @ThePencilRoomOnline  Рік тому

      Thanks! Tip for drawing a leaning apple: draw the angle it is on first! I did this in the second apple a bit late but if you draw a centre line on a slope and then try to draw the oval also on a slope so it is even on each side of the centre line. It can be a bit of a brain twister because we generally think of apples as being very round.

    I’m stuck on understanding the ellipses. If one is looking at a bottle like in your example wouldn’t the bottom eclipse be wider because you would be looking down at it whereas the cap etc would be eye level? Or at this point are we just working toward the basic form? Thank you kindly. I am learning so many practical skills,!

    • @ThePencilRoomOnline
      @ThePencilRoomOnline  8 місяців тому

      Yes you are absolutely correct! The opening of the bottom ellipse is wider. In this video I keep it simple to just work on constructing forms. Sounds like you've got the idea of ellipses in perspective already but this video looks at it in more detail: ua-cam.com/video/s4ZF2-hPa2c/v-deo.htmlsi=cWEzCrmAt8DGbTlD
      Thanks very much for watching this video series!

    Than you so much for sharing your precious knowledge and skills. First time I understood some basics. I am practicing a lot but ellipse are very difficult for me, please let me know any of your tips, again I want to thank warmly. You are really kind and gorgeous person.

    • @ThePencilRoomOnline
      @ThePencilRoomOnline  Рік тому

      Ellipses are difficult when you first start! There isnt really any trick except to practice. Whenever you draw or take a youtube tutorial, spend a few minutes before you start practicing ellipses, moving your hand across the page (just use the same page each time so you dont waste paper!). Like anything new it will feel strange and difficult to start with but if you stick with it, they become easy and natural. I have a video on other ways to draw circles and ellipses but the loose ellipse method is the best one to master if you can stick with it. Heres the other video: ua-cam.com/video/GqdDL6li4SQ/v-deo.htmlsi=9JMjqfTv90lsZWwD
      Good luck!

    Your old El Paso jar top, from my view is a scale of approximately 1 1/4 tall x 2 3/4 wide. From my view point, it’s quite a bit wider than what you’ve drawn from your perspective.

      I expect you are correct! In this lesson Im just demonstrating how to represent objects with simple 3D shapes. I haven't measured any proportions but we do cover that in Lesson 4 :)

    Love these lessons but wondering if you have a pencil sharpener 😂, your pencil looks so dull that it looks like you are at the wood.

    • @ThePencilRoomOnline
      @ThePencilRoomOnline  14 днів тому +1

      A blunter pencil line gets picked up by the camera sensor better so it can be seen more easily on the video. It's purely for that technical reason and so I don't keep getting comments complaining about not being able to see it well enough 😅
      Highly recommend sharpening pencils when you need to 😇

    Isn't that the truth, accepting the level we are at. That's definitely the number one reason I would stop drawing in the past because I couldn't accept the skill level I was at.
    I'd look at my finished product and lose all motivation

    • @ThePencilRoomOnline
      @ThePencilRoomOnline  11 місяців тому

      I'd say it's the main reason people stop learning to draw. But I can totally understand it - it's especially hard to keep the motivation when there are so many amazing artists out there showing their best work on social media and UA-cam. We don't get to see all the practice and struggle and fails that came before though!
