He's actually my uncle and we'd had a Thanksgiving dinner in North Carolina long time ago. I grew up in Calera, AL. I was very close to my family on my mom's side. He's the best racer I've ever seen. Love you Uncle Hut ❤
That’s awesome!
Great video! Hut was sooo close to a win. You could tell Bob, Benny, and Ned were rooting for Hut.
I always liked Hut, I remember watching this race when I was 14 really hoping that he could hold off Gordon! Was so heartbroken for him.
Agreed, absolutely heartbreaking having to overcome mechanical issues and clearly superior equipment and to come so close.
Just started watching this series and it’s already awesome! So underrated
Awesome! Glad to hear you are enjoying it!
@@zacharyleffler thank you!
the same i like this channel
HE and Dale Jarrett is my favorite driver always will be. Especially in #8 that car and that number beautiful ! His talent is so underrated.
Agreed! He was absolutely underrated. I remember getting a small model of the Circuit City #8 car and hauler at Kmart in the mid 90s
@@zacharyleffler wow yea!! i have a mediumly small model of the circuit city car on a mediumly small platform and i got few small models of him as well as many more of Dale Jarrett due to how many there is of DJ but that car and Jarretts car is stunning if any nascar driver can tell me with a straight face that either Dale or Huts car is not cool or eye appealing must be out of mind PLUs not just that but they were 2 of the most nicest drivers each had flaws. Like any one.
But they had tons of skill many think HUt was a weak slow driver actually he wasnt he needed great equipment and that chance to shine like DJ Going to RObert Yates elevated him to the Champ he is shame he didnt win alot with the #8 which is my favorite number! then #88 but as drivers both are tied. Forever Hut and DJ will forever be the best dispite what anyone says :)
That is so cool ! I am so glad there is people that appreciated Hut like idid as others routed for Martin etc etc Gordan Earnhardt myself was on HUt and Dale and also others underrated like Robert Pressley, Mark Krogh in busch series and many otheres with cool underrated talent and cool #s and names but talent to me :) I like many underrated drivers its who i am but they got to be cool to me or have that spark i see :) But so glad to know someone was or appreciated Hut like i did both cars are sick cool! i have a few of Hut and more of Dale tho i wish i had alot more of Hut. Cherish his model buddy and god bless you! THanks for appreciating him!
@@moontainbew5018 DJ definitely had great schemes. I was always an Elliott fan growing up but always pulled for the underdogs and kept an eye out for talent that didn't necessarily have the best equipment under them.
@@zacharyleffler thanks exactly! Hut STricklins Circuit City the cute 8 that i call snowman tho its a 2 piece not 3 piece but its what i call 8 and looks cute for a number the way it is with the BRick Red lightning many have their best paint schemes of all time and no one not 1 person yet i seen in videos ever has Hut Stricklins Circuit City or Dale Jarretts Quality Care Ford Credit its like really? ALso tied or with it is Dr. Pepper not just because fav soda pop but i love the look of the Dr. Pepper its simple yet stands out beautifully! So those and DP and that Johny Davis racing when had the VENOM Energy Drink with the snake eyes is probably behind the 3 way tie of DJ Hut and DP scheme. These are underrated for schemes and sponsors. Also i love the Jasper of Robert PRessley also loved the #77 number and Roberts talent he should of shown alot more in cup than trucks but its fine. But i also liked underdogs that no one remembers in top 10 like COleman PRessley, JAMie Mosley, Caleb Holman, JEff SPraker, JC Stout, JEff Streeter, John Silverthrone John Kinder, Shawna RObinson, Michelle Theriault, Jeff Falk CE Falk, Stan Boyd, Jeff Roark, even if some didnt race in cup truck or busch etc i was really into them as drivers. But many no one knows :) But i do!
i meant in top 50 because also in the top 50 to me is Jason Jarrett Ned Jarrett and others icant think off hand i count any stock car :) my favs are odd but its what and who i find cool plus they make the numbers great
0:45 there is a current active cup series driver from Alabama
I have a stock car simulation board game and Hut Stricklin had miraculously won a race with SBIII when I was replaying the 1999 season. Put a big grin on my face lol.
That’s awesome
This to me it's one of the all time heart breakers. Great content sir 👍
Agreed; and thank you!
This was well done. This channel gonna blow up. Great series. Jeff Gordon was my favorite driver at the time, so I knew I had a favorable outcome either way, but knowing how Hut's career would go after this, I wish he'd have won this one.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! I agree with you’re point on Hut, like a lot of these guys it would’ve been a nice addition to their resume and potentially kept their respective programs afloat for a bit longer.
Great video Zach. Some great knowledge you have on racing!
Thank you!
That #8 Circuit City Ford was gorgeous.
I pulled for Hut since the very late 80s when I was a little kid n him going for the lead at Pocono when he got spun by Irvan and causing a big wreck. That Raybestos Buick #12 was a great looking car
That was a great looking car! He definitely has some strong runs in it too, scored 3 top 5s with that team.
Just started watching this series now. Excellent job on the video, Hut Stricklin is very underrated in NASCAR. Shame he couldn't get it done.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Phenomenal video!
Thank you!
Great idea for a series. I'm excited to watch through them all and more!
Thank you, I hope you enjoy the rest!
I was 10 years old watching this race and it still hurts. Especially since he never ended up winning a race
Jeopardy Category Before and After: “A favorite restaurant that serves baked meat and cheese pies and the driver of the #8 Circuit City car in NASCAR in the 1990s”. “What is Pizza Hut Stricklin?”
Great video, Zachary. This race is one of the very first NASCAR races that I remember watching, and when you think of Circuit City, Hut Stricklin's name will always come up first before the short run that Shane Lee had.
Thank you Rich, glad you enjoyed it! And same here, I remember getting a Hut Stricklin circuit city model at Kmart in mid 90s.
I miss good races like this. No fake cautions. Epic strategies and driving. Every positions matters for the year end championship.
Real NASCAR, really miss it.
Great video. Hut was an O.g.
Underrated for sure.
Good video Zachary. Nice Skynyrdesk outro music too
Thank you, appreciated! Glad you enjoyed the video. Outro is from a tune I wrote a few years back.
@@zacharyleffler You still have a band?
@@happywrenching33 Yeah, haven't been too active lately. Zeffler and Let Go Daylight were the two projects doing original music I played in.
@@zacharyleffler I really like it when bands do their own music. Like the creativity.
This was his chance. So sad he had the issue
Hut was a hell of a driver & still is a he'll of a guy
This is one of the biggest disappointments I’ve ever experienced as a racing fan going back to 1993 when I started watching. Man o’l man, how I wish Hut had won that Southern 500
Same here!
He drove the #27 McDonald's in 1993 and that car won twice with Jimmy Spencer in 1994
I remember how utterly dominant Jarrett was before getting into some oil.
I was a Hut Stricken fan!
This should've been his day but my guy was in another solar system during the late 90s
Agreed.
Gordon won 4 in a row at the Southern 500
It's fun, when i think at Hut Striklin imediattelly i think at this period with RAYBESTOS or Mc Donalds or Heinz tomato Ketchup but principzally RAYBESTOS clearly and Mc Donalds 90/93
same thing in 2023, how come NASCAR doesn't offer us a Starting Grid on TV during race broadcasts in anymore? With the drivers and mainly their cars in INTRO of race.
Shameful, scandalized.
great video however
I wish they still did too
The most mediocre driver to have the longest NASCAR career. He drove a lot of good cars too.
