For everyone who does not understand. Urza's Saga is turning into an island and loses all other abilitys and chapters but keeps the Saga typing. And a Saga is sacrificed as soon as the chapter ability resolves with the highest chapter value. So because it does not have chapters and is still a saga it gets sacrificed when state based actions are checked.
Interesting but useless tidbit: the effects granting Urza's Saga the ability to tap for one colorless mana and to make karnstructs still apply after it's turned into an Island, but Andrea doesn't get an opportunity to use its abilities while it's an Island before state based actions are checked. That's why he did it in response to the ETB trigger. When it leaves the battlefield, it's an Enchantment Land - Island Saga.
@@sweetpepper9651 abilities aren't the same as card types. since it's a mechanic relating to the Saga card type, and not an ability that sagas have, removing all abilities doesn't stop it from dying from the saga ruling. this is my understanding of it at least.
Saw The Professor grinding games at SCG Charlotte this past weekend. His love for this game is honestly heartwarming. Thanks for taking the time for a pic Prof!
Mengu is hands down my favorite pro MTG player (next to Reid Duke). He has a passion for the game that surpasses all the rest, I can't think of a format he doesn't play and his content is priceless due to the fact he expounds on all of his card choices in decks he plays. On top of this, his commentary while playing and picking specific lines of play is not only valuable to help his viewers understand high level plays but its also very entertaining to watch. Almost like a documentary that provides so much knowledge from experience as well as a "sitcom" in that it's comical to hear his reactions while showing his legitimate passion in the process. Much love to ya Mengu, you will forever be my pick in any tournament you play
I do find it kinda funny that there was a whole celebration of resolving GSZ correctly when Tori fell for the old Judge's Tower trick of only shuffling once, like a normal person, instead of the twice the card tells you to
Lovely episode, as always! Andrea is one of the reasons I am proud do be Italian! Also, Tori was super sweet and kind! And the Professor is always great at putting everybody at ease!
Andrea is one of my favourite players & content creators. Just love his attitude and humour and also he's just such a great player. Keep going, Andrea!!
Mengucci is the person who got me into constructed MTG with his old Omnitell Legacy videos on ChannelFireball, which blew my mind that a card game could have lines as intricate and mesmerizing as that! Thank you Mengu for all of your Legacy Veeeeeedeos!
I picked up some precon decks and have played at home, and been struggling through defeat after defeat in MTG Arena, so I came to the university of UA-cam to learn and stumbled upon the treasure trove that is Tolarian Community college. Been going through the back catalogue but this is the first video I’ve watched of people playing. Fantastic. Learnt so much more just watching experienced players… might be time to visit the LGS on Friday night…
Hey prof, I think it would be super cool to have the LRR Canlander guys on for an episode on canlander. Wheeler and serge are super entertaining and talented magic players
Always great to see Mengucci, italian pride, especially piloting the Best archetype ;D. Teaser got me hyped, didn't know Smant plays mtg, only know him from youtube challenges and speedruns and seems like he came to shuffle up and play to speedrun dying to mana crypt...
Not only was Tori the first to correctly shuffle Green Suns Zenith into her library on the show, but she was the first to properly put it in her graveyard too 👏 👏 👏
The land reads "enchantment land - urza's saga", after spreading seas is attached it becomes an "enchantment land - island saga". It still keeps the subtype of saga because that is an enchantment type, not a land type, therefore it'll also keep the rules of a saga while the island removes all text from the card, which means the number of chapters becomes zero and the number of lore counters becomes zero. Spreading seas doesn't "blow it up", its a game rules effect that states, "whenever the lore counters become equal to or greater than the number of chapters on a saga, it is sacrificed due to state based actions".
I know literally nothing about Magic in any way shape or form..but I love to listen to the interactions between all the players and Prof.. this ismy ASMR at work!
I only recently commenced to watch "shuffle up and play". As a person who only learned kitchen table magic during the pandemic, I still struggle to understand even timing rules and initiative. But this format is so well explained that even I, as total newb can kinda follow the game. Lovely guests and banter too. Thanks for these videos.
I love your show prof. The variety of formats is nice. Don't stop doing 1v1 formats. It has an awesome vibe that's similar to the relaxed but high level stuff card market guys do. 👍
I love the way Andrea “bounce+snap”s his cards into his hand on every draw. Maybe that’s not the right word, but it seems right; that sound is so crisp!
I spent the entire next time thing going "wow that magic player looks a ton like smallant, cool. Its uncanny they could almost be brothers!" and then the first syllable before he even had a chance to say his name I realised that that voice was unmistakeable XD This is gonna be so cool but the two week wait is gonna be killer
Urza's Saga is the only reason I know the term "State-based actions", and it's the only example of one I've ever encountered, playing Magic since 2010 or so.
@33:46 Æ and æ are used in different ways. Old english, its the letter called ash. Yet as a more modern symbol, this is a diphthong (which is usually Latin / Greek). That english spells aeroplane, aeon, aesthetic without the diphthong is just a change of contemporary english. (unable to cite things due to Google)
Merfolk is like a true rogue deck, it's almost there but it lacking in big bomb to play with top decks, but by themselves the fishboi and fishgals are already a powerful synergistic tribe.
I think the most important thing for a folk deck is to both force an opponent to have an island and protect your Lord's at all costs. Cause no matter how much stabilization and creatures your opponent has if you just keep getting in with unblockable damage it'll get there
How did Andrea get that second construct at 24:00 when it costs 2 and tapping, and he only has 2 mana possible when tapping Urza's Saga for mana. I think he was 1 mana short to do that.
Be sure to watch our new episode with Patrick Sullivan VS Cedric Phillips here: ua-cam.com/video/9OeQDAH1dU8/v-deo.html

@@makingnoises2327 does spreading seas not say that the land loses all other abillities?
So how does the chapter ability actually resolve if it's just removed by being turned into an Island?

I wanna see Andrea and Rhystic Studies just playing magic and speaking italian while the poor prof just smiles and nods
I freaking love Andrea, he's been a staple on the card market magic channel and im happy to see him popping up here at thee college too.
Saw The Professor grinding games at SCG Charlotte this past weekend. His love for this game is honestly heartwarming. Thanks for taking the time for a pic Prof!
Any time!

Legends say that whenever Andrea takes off the scarf, another Commander set gets released to ruin Legacy. We shall never forget his noble sacrifice.
Andrea and Tori are a great guest combo.
I appreciate Tori’s energy. She seems so real and chill.
The animation of Andrea taking damage when Prof makes a joke made me laugh out loud at work!
I do find it kinda funny that there was a whole celebration of resolving GSZ correctly when Tori fell for the old Judge's Tower trick of only shuffling once, like a normal person, instead of the twice the card tells you to
I'm shocked I never realized that until now. Lol.
Oh, the switch to the Italian accent. I also love how Andrea is pretty clearly saying "saga" in Italian every time.
That -1 animation was gold
Lovely episode, as always!

Smallant next episode? I didn't know he played magic! Can't wait
Same here I am really excited for the next episode.
My exact reaction!
My reaction to the bit at the end :
-"Hey, funny, he looks very much like smant"
-"I'm Smallant..."
-Surprised Pikatchu face
(and bloody too)
Never played legacy, never seen legacy played so I appreciate this opportunity to experience it. I also enjoy Andrea ❤ Tori is cute too
I love how the Professor got Andrea to concede. Classy dad joke!
It's 2022? Damn shout outs to you and your team for producing these episodes so far in advance!
right when she said that i was like 🤔was last year 2021? But yea the back log is real.
Absolutely stoked to see small ant for the next one.
Small Ant Mom next?
I am excited as well I watch his content all the time on twitch/youtube I never thought I would ever see a collab like this.
BRO WHAT
I totally didn't expect to see Smant playing Magic
Mengu is such a treasure. We need more of him on this channel!
YES! FINALLY! SOMEONE PUTS GREEN SUN ZENITH BACK INTO THEIR DECK ON THIS SHOW!!! IVE WAITED SO LONG TO SEE THIS!!!
Mengucci is the person who got me into constructed MTG with his old Omnitell Legacy videos on ChannelFireball, which blew my mind that a card game could have lines as intricate and mesmerizing as that!
Thank you Mengu for all of your Legacy Veeeeeedeos!
This series brings me absolute joy. The vibes are immaculate!
Love andrea energy/mood (and i'm french and he's italian so that means a lot)

Hey prof, I think it would be super cool to have the LRR Canlander guys on for an episode on canlander. Wheeler and serge are super entertaining and talented magic players
I second this
I third this
I don't think Wheeler is allowed into the US... not after that incident...
i fourth this
I fifth this
Andrea and Tori means auto great episode.

the way prof said “what a noob” with the grin, i am now a huge fan 😂
I love my academic, professor! Absolutely blown away.
mengu and tori are absolute treasures and we should protect them from all colours
20:25 It had been Shuffle Up and Green Sun's Zenith to the graveyard for too much time
Not only was Tori the first to correctly shuffle Green Suns Zenith into her library on the show, but she was the first to properly put it in her graveyard too 👏 👏 👏

It's a pleassure to watch Andrea playing and explaining the cards. ¡Great show like always!
Somehow this one skipped my feed for over a week…
Love Mengu and legacy VEEDEOS
I don't know why but Andrea Mengucci has some strong Gideon Vibes. Love him.
The Professor asking if Andrea was on Vimeo was pretty funny ngl
I know literally nothing about Magic in any way shape or form..but I love to listen to the interactions between all the players and Prof.. this ismy ASMR at work!
Always a good day when we Shuffle Up and Play
Prof, did you bring a scarf to counter Andrea's?
You know it
Andrea is a great and calm guy. Also, I don't why but I really love italian's seat of synod!

I find myself not finishing most mtg tournament videos but the energy in these TCC videos are the best and I enjoy the entire thing.
I saw the preview for next time and thought I saw Tanner and though no way. I’m so excited for next time!!
Smallant looking nice! did not expect to see him here :)
I really enjoyed these two. Def have them back prof.
I strongly believe Prof stayed up extra late the night before coming up with these puns
Everyone needs someone in their life with the same ride or die energy that Prof has for Merfolk.
Finally Shuffling Up the best format, hell yeah!
love that smant is on the next episode!!
Nooo I got spoilered
I spent the entire next time thing going "wow that magic player looks a ton like smallant, cool. Its uncanny they could almost be brothers!" and then the first syllable before he even had a chance to say his name I realised that that voice was unmistakeable XD This is gonna be so cool but the two week wait is gonna be killer
"This is a pay-to-win Island" ☠😂
For what it's worth, I like the Merfolk deck, looks a lot of fun to play :) I also enjoy playing Merfolk in OS.
Love to see some Legacy on the channel!
this was so fun to watch. i love andrea and tori.
Urza's Saga is the only reason I know the term "State-based actions", and it's the only example of one I've ever encountered, playing Magic since 2010 or so.
The prof didn't expect that zinger 😂
“I do it as a sign of disrespect” 😂
Grande Andrea, very cool episode!
I'm very pleased to see that Prof and I have the same favorite basic island.
another great video :) Can’t believe the series has almost been around for a whole year!
2:26 "but professor, it's 2022!" didn't realise I was watching a flashback episode 😉
Bring-your-own Scarf Edition of Shuffle up and Play! Love it!
That blue artifact deck looks really fun. I am not a blue player but I do love some good artifact decks!
finally! I was hoping for a legacy episode since the series started! thanks prof!
The best magic phrases to say in Italian are "ti meno" and "sono x pizze per te".
Great that Legacy is getting some love on this channel, it's the greatest format
yeah i would love to play legacy elves but the format in general it's too expensive for me even tho i like to see youtube content about it
@33:46

Wow what a great way to explain a match. Amazing production value even though for experienced players it can be a bit slow.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Still much better than Command Zone's 4 minutes explanation on how an Arcane Signet can change the game
This was great!
Wonderful, as usual!
Smant is extremely unexpected, but extremely welcome!! That's super exciting!!!
"Merfolk em out" had me rolling! 😂😂
Legacy on it's way to die everytime a new made for commander set comes out
Wait, Tanner is coming on?
A very unexspected, but certainly welcome episode, once it airs

Omg I love Carly Rae Jepsen please keep inviting her!!!
When Andrea said "strong draw" I thought he was going to say an Italian curse word that also starts with "stron" 😅
Absolutely love watching my favorite format :D
Prof had that game had he not attacked all out. Merfolk is viable in legacy for sure !!!
My Academic in purple and black arrived today it's beautiful Prof, a wonderful edition to my collection.
Mengu in the opening cut Im cryinggggggggg
Wait, what the fuck is Smallant doing here 😂 That's pretty cool honestly excited to watch the next episode!
I love the video, also wanted to say I got my Academic the other day, absolutely love it.
Good episode and a good attempt by the Professor! You'll get em next time.
That last ding against Jim Davis was absolutely hilarious
I did it! 👍 😂 I found out my TT homie Tori made an appearance, so I had to check it out. Thx Prof.
Mengucci with the BIGGEST Italian RIZZ
Lmao he said "you could do worse" in the ad for cardkingdom. I'm dying
Thank you for including different accents in your show!
Everytime the professor says "Booo" I crack up 😂
Nice Merfolk list Prof. For some added spice try the Thassa's Oracle+Paradigm Shift package.
Let’s go tori!!!🎉🎉🎉
OMG Lua!
@@TolarianCommunityCollege HI PROF
Prof at the very end had “I need a nap” vibes lol

He tapped the SotS and the mox opal for 2 mana.
Fishmen can't beat giant squids, silly you. You're still first in my heart of hearts for staying true to merfolks
