- A summary of my experiences road cycling with the Redshift Shockstop handlebar stem, and my own opinion of the item.
** UPDATE ** 7/20/2019
I have since returned to using a "standard" alloy stem on the Waterford road bike. The Redshift Shockstop Stem is now installed on my Salsa Gravel Bike.
Note: The products that I have reviewed to date have been either loaned to me for a brief time then returned by me, or purchased by me using my own money earned at my day job.
Thanks for watching. Cheers!
80mm version is now available.
Yes! Just ordered my stem & seatpost. I'm recovering from being struck by a vehicle back in April 2021, while going to a group ride early morning. But when doctors clear me again to bike ride. I'm using these to ease into riding my roadbikes again, since my arm and leg can't heldle road shock just yet since I had titaniumin arm and a bone graft in fractured leg. Really appreciate redshift team made these and right when I need them to recover the most! Many thanks!
Ease back in a little bit at a time. Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery. Cheers!
There is now a lighter one but is expensive at $259 on Amazon.
What were the initial too firm elastomer settings, the too soft, and your preferred choice?
Duh, further thoughts from an idle mind. Part 1 indicates the initial 'firm' setting was an 80/50 combination. That suggests the second 'soft' attempt was a 70/60, which further suggests you might have settled on 70/70 as best working for you. Right?
Apparently, the nominal numbers are not indicative of the resistance value of the individual elastomers, nor are the values linear, or 80+50=130 would feel a lot like 70+60=130 and both would feel softer than 70+70=140.
Can this be installed on a carbon fork?
Yes! The fork in the video is an Enve Composites 1.0 full-carbon fiber fork. Be sure to use a torque wrench in order to avoid damaging your stem or your fork, and ensure safety. Cheers!
@@prestachuck2867 thank you.
What's the ideal compression plug nut? 2 inches?
@@Sagecellist Check with the fork manufacturer. The ideal expander/compression plug dimensions may vary from one make and model of fork to another.
Thanks for the video. Are you still using it
Gaatech Yes I am still using the Shockstop Stem, but I have transplanted it to my new gravel bike. So far, it’s perfect!
I just got 80mm
@@lakishaweaks9784 how do you like the 80mm? How tall are you?
I'm 5"3 but have not put on bike yet. I have 110m on my hardtail with 35 up rise bars. That's what made me buy a 2nd 1
I’ve just completed my first mass-start gravel event using the Shockstop stem on my Salsa Journeyman. The course was 31 miles of mostly very chunky gravel and dirt. The stem is amazing! It really made a huge difference in reducing hand, arm, and neck fatigue, while improving ride control!
