- On this episode I install a Kohlefaser Luft-Technik Intake on my 2017 Volkswagen Jetta GLI (MK6). I purchased the intake at ECS Tuning.

The end is pure Dad love, and I love it haha!
Thanks for the video! Helps me see what I have in store when I do mine own.
That’s the idea :). I will say this after driving with the new intake for a couple of weeks I really do notice a big difference in power and sound. The stock intake is way to restrictive.
You made this look straight forward, unlike the instructions 😂
I have the same car bro! Great video!
I love your dad I miss mine
Lmao the call at the end 😂😂😂😂
This is true, VW 2.0T engines bay get super hot. I bought the ecs basic intake kit without the carbon box on sale, and now i want to buy the carbon box but ECS does not sell them separately 😕
Lol this the coolest vid I seen
Thanks! You should checkout my video where I take my dad for a test drive
But that hot air gets cooled by the intercooler thou. I could see that logic on a N/A car.
The air in this engine bay can reach 140 degrees in the summer. Yes your intercooler helps cool. However, with air moving through the system so fast it simply won’t cool down to say 80 degrees (outside air temp in the summer) having a closed box does not inhibit air flow and keeps temperatures drastically lower.. it’s a win win all the way around. I would prefer to do everything possible to mitigate heat. Thanks for watching.
@@MereMortalsAttempthmm. Im not a mechanic but follow my lead here. The intercooler isnt meant to cool 80 degree ambient air temperature. Air goes from filter, to being compressed and pushed troughthe turbines of the turbocharger. Where they get to temps around 300 degrees. So if te filter sucks in 60 degree, 90 degree or 180 degree temperatures, they are still going to get to around 300 degrees then get sent to the intercooler before reaching the engine. Hear me out even more, stock cars heatsoak after 1-2 pulls even tho they have sealed systems with plastic tubing that doesnt heat up as hot as aftermarket piping. Yet aftermarket non sealed intake system with aftermarket intercoolers can go all day long on track days. So on turbo cars, open air vs sealed intake boxes is silly. Furthermore, as a non mechanic, it is my understanding that diverter valve /wastegate noise is purposely muffled for driver comfort from the factory. The sealed boxes retain the non woosh noise when letting off the throttle. In conclusion. As a non mechanic i have to concur with the guy who says sealed intake systems only make a marginal difference in naturally aspirated cars.
That’s very nice, good job 💪, how much you pay for the intake ?? I have a vw Jetta 2013 ..2.0
lol gotta love fuckin around with pops
Just curious, with the improved air flow what have you seen from a mpg perspective? Theoretically with the improved air flow and better O2 to fuel ratio you should see a little better fuel economy. Any chance you have done some direct comparisons? thx!
Sorry I didn’t even think to do a comparison on gas mileage. You’ve got me thinking and I still have the stock air box
Honestly if you are getting terrible mileage I would check to see if you’re carbon deposits are bad
Is your car a 2.0? I have a 1.4t thinking bout putting one in myself
Just bought this vehicle and am already looking into mods I can do myself- what are your thoughts on the pros & cons for this intake?
I really like this one or the APR intake... the main point is make sure that it’s a closed box. Otherwise you will pull in hot air from the engine bay. As far as sound with this or any closed intake it doesn’t sound much different from stock... just runs a little better when you are up to speed
Mere Mortals appreciated!!
I have a 2015 1.8 tsi jetta do u think I will need the extra part? secondary filter
Not sure. ECS Tuning was able to sort me out.
nice..! is that filter dry or oiled? I cant find that info.. thnaks
Dry
Did you reconnect the sensor that was connected on the original intake?
Yes there is a spot on the bottom of the pipe coming from the new air box
Mine has the secondary intake but it wasn't connected to anything but the old air box and the other end was just hanging freely.
Does this interfere with gas mileage or wear at all compared to the stock air intake? Also does it unmuffle the turbo and make it a little louder?
I haven’t noticed any drop in gas mileage, still to early to tell about wear and tear (I doubt it’s any different) as for the sound.. it’s only slightly louder. This intake is a closed box much like the original one. I liked this one over other options because of the fact that it is closed (less likely to pull hot air from the engine bay).
Good to know about gas mileage I want to do more to my car I just recently bought a 14 jetta se the 1.8t and I love it but I want to do more for sound don't want it stupid loud but also want a little more grumble to it
This intake would not be for you... it’s barely louder than stock. Keep in mind a big open intake will perform worse than stock because it’s pulling air from inside the engine compartment. You would be better off working on exhaust if you want more noise
I don't want to much noise though so I'm hoping I can find one that just makes the car sound a little louder but a deeper sound is what I'm looking for no to ricer sounding I guess lol
campas812 Im currently trying to do the same thing. Check out AWE exhausts for the GLI
what is that clamp called that you used to clamp open the o rings

These were the ones I used.
@@MereMortalsAttempt thank you, i just replaced mine and i was using a different clamp and lost grip, and got that o ring to smack my finger hard as hell
Ouch! I hate when that happens
Where did you get that, and how much you pay ?? Thank you 🙏
