    I have seen so many dead PS5, and these types of videos makes me absolutely not buying an PS5 ever. I dont think that i saw so much dead PS4´s back in the day. Sure, broken consoles are common and normal, but sometimes a manufacturer stands way out. I remember Microsoft with the 360. Thankfully i have an Jasper 360 somewhere in my house that rocks over 13 years now and working fine.

    20:27 - Just small hint, when soldering IC with central ground pad, its not necessary to have 100% coverage with solder, like you had, in the end it gave you shorted contacts on 20:54, shorted contacts depend on direction of pushing chip, you could have shorted other contacts in that way and damage chip.
    Tin contacts on board, tin contacts on chip and solder them without pushing down. Pushing down is reason why shorts happen if you have excessive amount of tin.
    I believe above 60% of ground pin coverage with tin is OK per documentation.

    • @ToltecMerc
      @ToltecMerc  Рік тому

      Yeah I try to put a small amount but you know solder loves to flow especially using that big solder iron tip!

    Hi @Toltecmerc,
    Thank you for those very educational and enjoyable videos especially towards the end with a revived peace of tech every time.
    I do have a question for you though i thought you might be able to help me on it. I have a ps4 CUH-1116A that shuts down when i try to power it up the light comes on for about half a second and then shuts off completely unless power cycled! I tested the 12 volt bins on the supply (ADP-240CR) and they seem to come up and stay up when unloaded and i can confirm i have no short on the 12 volt rail on the console itself so it just seems to shutdown under load. Good to mention as well that standby voltage and power good signal are present no problems.
    I hope that makes sense to you and maybe you can advise me!
    Thanks very much.

    • @ToltecMerc
      @ToltecMerc  Рік тому

      If it is shutting down that fast, that sounds like a power rail is not coming up either from a short or a blown fuse. Monitor your APU core voltages(about 1V). You can check on the large inductors that are in a line. You can also check the RAM voltage(1.5V) and see if it is coming up. See if they are coming up even momentarily or not. Is the +5V coming up?

    • @qshelby6719
      @qshelby6719 Рік тому

      @@ToltecMerc Thank you, i will go back and check those. I forgot to mention i did a little test just to roll out which rail was the problem i learned that from you actually. So i basically connected only the 4-bin connector to the console without the 12 volt and when I turn it on it attempts to start for far longer i would say the light blinks for 2 seconds it wasn’t doing that before but then it goes to shut down because there is no 12 volt. Do you think it could still be a standby voltage regardless?

    Hi, I have a question. I have a similar knife soldering tip, but whenever I try to clean the solder joints like you do here 21:18 I always just end up removing solder and I can't get it back there on the IC fro some reason.
    What could I be doing wrong? I use flux and 390-400°C, no preheating board.
    Thank you so much as always for your amazing videos.

    • @ToltecMerc
      @ToltecMerc  Рік тому +1

      The solder on the chip has to still be pretty hot. If I try to drag across the joints on a cold chip, it doesn't usually work very well. I touch up the joints immediately after soldering the chip with hot air.

    hi ! , first thanks for your vidéos they are really helpfull and detailed.
    I got a question about an EDM020. If someone get the same issue and solve it, it will be cool.
    I've got a short cap near the Dialog chip DA9065 (F7003), and the fuse was blowed on F7002 A2 chip (DC/DC).
    I think this gives 1.8V for the Wifi chip. The outside rail of 1.8v is short.
    When i remove the wifi chip the short was gone. So i change the chip.
    Check the caps on the other side, they are ok.
    But with the new chip short's back and the fuse blows again... try to inject voltage but only the wifi chip is heating up... so really if someone got an answer plz.
    Tx again for the help and for your videos !
