    Hello!
    Thank you for the videos! As a fellow tinkerer, former arcade repair tech and nerd in general I love this kind of stuff. I've done a fair bit of retro game console repair / modding... did some of the HDMI mod kits for PS1 and N64 and so on.
    These videos are so cool, and a great source of information. I am actually in the middle of my own very first PS5 repair!
    In doing that however, I seemed to have damaged the flat flex connector socket for the front USB ports on the console. I was super gentle with it, but the cable just didn't seem to want to seat. Looks like the ports goofed up now (socket on the motherboard, that recives that wide flat flex). Any idea of where I might be able to source another socket?
    I'm torn between even messing with it though. The ports on the back will charge and sync a controller just fine. Not sure if theres any reason to even repair it, but if I can... I'd like too.
    Any recommendations on a beginners scope for doing HDMI port repair? Ive done micro usb port replacements before. And I've soldered quad flat packs with 0.5mm leg pitch before without. Both without magnification. For this HDMI port, I'm feeling like I should have/use a scope. I think as long as I use some low melt solder, and pick up a reasonable microscope, I should be able to do it. I do have a quick 957dw hot air station too.

    • @ToltecMerc
      @ToltecMerc  10 місяців тому +1

      You would need to source that connector from a donor I'm afraid. The cable is what usually gets easily damaged. The contacts get folder over at the end and break. There are several inexpensive microscopes available from Adonstar. That's what I started out with. The only issues are the small amount of work space underneath and it's not easy getting use to working while looking at the monitor instead of where your hands are.

    • @brandonkick
      @brandonkick 10 місяців тому

      @@ToltecMerc I appreciate the reply.
      I managed to successfully swap out that HDMI port with just my $30 USB microscope.
      I have the quick 957DW hot air station, which says it'll go as high as 450C. Using low melt it wasn't too hard to get the original port off. It did seem to take longer than I thought it should, but I feel like the ground legs don't just come out so easily and that the pins on the top were probably safely wetted but I felt resistance because of the anchor legs and was afraid I'd rip a pad.
      But even with the nozzle off and the temp set to 430, I couldn't flow the new HDMI port back into place. I had to fully clean out the ground leg holes with desoldering braid and low melt solder, then clean the area, tin the pads with fresh 70/30 rosin core, put the port down, solder the ground / anchor legs down and then one by one solder the each leg carefully. Managed not to knock off that filter cap, but it did take me a few min to get every single leg to be good and solid. I verified each pin was solid with my tweezers before moving on.
      I've decided just to live with the front USB ports inoperable. I'd have to spend $20 on that front USB module just to steal the connector off of it, plus another $10+ for a new cable. The back USB ports work just fine. So I use those.
      Debating, but I might just spend the $250 for the amscope binocular style setup. Probably overkill for my needs. I guess I could always subsidize it by doing a handful of HDMI repairs for people locally.

    there is a process to convert a PS5 disk edition to a digital one, you have to make some work on the BIOS chip, that is just in case the disk drive is broken or not the original one, greetings froom Costa Rica and thanks a lot for share.

      Yes. I have done this conversion before. Luckily, I did not need to this time!

    Hello, when I press the power button on pins 12 to 15 of ic AF010X47, does 5V occur? If 5V does not occur, which part is it?

    Wow! Nice work, I am going to go on the belief that this was someone else's first attempt to fix some thing... bolstered by a UA-cam U education. Everyone starts some where. Although my first repair was not a PS5 tiered cost I am certain my fathers apprehension was the same as the previous owners. I hope the "Tech in Training" is a viewer of yours and just learned as much as all the rest of us did! Perhaps you could start a sub channel where all us lesser techno types could send you our "Beyond My Skill-set" type boards. I was even more impress how you went at it "Blind" with no real idea of the awaiting issues. That too could be a factor for your sub channel... we won't send you a note/description of what is wrong with the device. LOL I am dying up here laughing at my own humor. Sorry!
    BTW, Happy Holidays to you and yours. Thank you for providing me with entertainment and an education. You have no clue how much it has helped me!
    Take care.
