Walnut Jewelry Box
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 жов 2016
- This walnut jewelry box was inspired by a box made by James Krenov. It is rift sawn walnut, and the liner and the sliding box on the inside was made from ash. The finish is boiled linseed oil and a top coat of dark wax.

What a great video! No talking, just solid woodworking, quick and to the point!
+Eric Gulino Thanks Eric!
For some reason, I love how not all are being fast forwarded. Makes me appreciate the workmanship more!
Excellent project man. I definitely need to make a 45 degree ramp for the shooting board.
Thanks brother! I built that a couple months ago, and it has really helped out quite a few times.
40 years a cabinet maker and just never used the shooting board all that much. Though to be fair, not much call when building kitchen cabinets.
You have built a family heirloom for the special person who receives this. Beautiful. Love the style of your video.
+karodora Thanks!
This man is a true artisan/craftsman. Thanks
Beautiful! Such wonderful precision and care.
Talent first, skill second, dream shop third. There were a couple of tools in this video I've never seen before. But I believe Guy could turn out a good product with a cheap toolbox saw and a pack of sandpaper.
And what I've learned about myself is that I like making jigs and designing and building my own machine tools more than I like the actual woodworking.
There's a place for everyone under the sun.
The box is another beauty Guy! The entire video from the no talk, camera angles, and editing was perfect. Well done Sir
Hey Wayne! I'm glad you like it. I thought I would try something a little different.
Learned a new technique for jointing wide boards. Another great video and build. Thanks!
Thanks! Glad you could take something away from it!
Another home run out of the park. Thanks for posting.
Hey Tom! thanks for the kind words buddy!
Looks great, Guy. Putting the new router table to work. I like anything made from walnut, and I enjoy your videos.
Thanks Bill!
Great - one of your best videos. Less talking and more doing. At first i missed the Why and How but then just sat back and enjoyed the quiet work. It is such a pleasue watching your meticulous work and lovely boxes materialize along the way.
Thanks so much Ty! I'm glad you liked!
splendid work beautiful detailing!!
Really love this video! I've been dying for a video of one of your boxes. I also appreciate this style of video narrative. I would watch more videos like this without a doubt!
+Huy Huynh Huy! Thanks buddy! I thought I would try to change things up a little bit. Glad you liked it, and thanks for the input!
Nicely done. Thanks!
Great work. And nice shop!
Beautiful Box Guy! Love the Krenov style!
Thanks Brian! That's the box (minus the dovetails) that's on the cover of " A Cabinet Makers Notebook"
I knew I seen it somewhere. Lol. Great job!
Hey!
A lovely box. Unique wood grain arrangement! Good job!
Recently, I made a wooden box for my wife on my channel.
Greetings from Poland!
Beautiful box Guy, straight grain is my absolute favorite, regardless of species!
Thanks Matt! The straight grain was actually a design element. I didn't want the grain to take anything away from all the other details of the box.
Sweet job! Great to see you put a box building video out there! Neat trick for transferring the hing locations to the lid! (every days a school day!)
Thanks Geoff! Thought I would finally film one of the builds!
Did i see it correct? Did you use the router table for the 45% angles on the corners? I have need for very accurate mitres on 12 mm thick walnut stock, i guess this relies on your router being accurately at 90 degrees to the table surface.
Yes, I used a 45 degree miter bit. It only will work on stock that is 7/16" thick however. I think they make some that have a larger cutting surface though.
The box looks fantastic, awesome job.
Thanks!
Beautiful piece as always Guy, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching Tamas!
Incredible craftsmanship Guy! I like the video style mixup. It was very easy to follow along! Thanks for another great video!
Thanks for watching and the support Donny!
Very well done all the way around. This video speaks volumes.
Thanks Sean!
Ok, so I learned something extremely valuable to me here. . I've seen this trick of jointing a wide board and making that step. However, every time i've seen it they have built a sled that had to be run through the planer with the board. Usually when i'm doing this I am dealing with really long boards and I have no board long enough to act as the reference surface. This is the first time I've seen someone have the reference surface fixed. Thank you for showing this!
nice job. I admire your craftmanship and precision. +1 Cheers!
Great box, nice detail in the lid construction. The dust extraction on the router table looks to be spot on . Cheers
+broadsideguy Thanks! The box turned out really well, and the dust collection on the router table is crazy good!
Hypnotizing! Great video and project, Guy!
Thanks so much Antoine!
Very nice!
Nice work Guy. Love the bridal joints on the top. Keep up that hand tool work! 😊
Thanks Brian! I'm always trying. HaHa
Well done as usual. Love to watch the techniques ... inspiring.
Thanks Bob!
Don't know how I missed this video...It's a very nice looking jewelry box. I like the top design. Thanks, great video as always.
Thanks Tom! It is actually the box that is on the front cover of James Krenov's "A Cabinet Makers Notebook".
Beautiful piece and great precision!
+Harry Newell Thanks Harry!
I really enjoyed the video! Whether you talk or not I enjoy watching the way you do things your very efficient and talented thanks for putting it out there for guys like me to learn!
Thanks for the support Aaron!
Loved it! I do a 'no talky' occasionally too for a change of pace. Definitely faster to produce for me. And, they're instantly translated into any language :)
+GarageWoodworks Thanks Brian! I was pretty nervous about the release of the video. Some people really like it, however there are quite a few that don't. I guess you never know until you try, right! Thanks for your support!
Can't please everyone they say ;)
The trick is trying to get everything across without words, which I think you nailed.
Wonderful little build. And really nice use of the shooting board. I learn so much from your videos. Now to set it into practice... :D Cheers. Also love the Shoplife Podcast, btw. Just started listening to that one as well.
Cool! Thanks so much!
Great job friend. The cabinet hinge drill was a great add on. I went ahead and liked an subscribed. Think I could learn a lot watching your channel. Thanks
Absolute artistry! Your craftsmanship is beyond next level sir! Obviously, questions abound, but my primary query is why anyone gave this a "thumbs down"? Thanks for sharing!
Loved the video. Beautiful box. Awesome editing.
Thanks Deb! Glad you liked the build and the video!
Beautiful! ❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Superb!! I really like the contrasting colours of the walnut and the lighter colour lining inside.. neat video!
Thanks Tomy! You didn't mind the video without talking?
GuysWoodshop it was different for sure but at the same time I didn't mind it..was well made and all the visual was there to follow Along..👍
Very nice work.
Gorgeous box and a great video.
+Grant White Thanks Grant! Glad you liked the style of this video.
Masterpiece! Thanks for well done video. Regards!
Thanks Stavros!
Great job as usual Guy! The no talking was unusual for your videos but it worked on this one!!!
Thanks Doug! I thought this project could kinda speak for itself without me blabbing...
Excellent work man, loved it!
Thanks Roman! Glad you liked it!
Beautifully done box, Guy! Nice video - an "un-talky", if I may... :) Also saw the new router table in action. Looking good all across the board! Thanks for the video.
Hey Dave! Thanks buddy!
Nice box. Great skills!
+Uriel Valdez Thanks Uriel!
Great stuff Guy! Attention to the details!
Thanks Adam! It's the little details that can make or break a piece sometimes
Wow !
Great box! Great video!
Thanks Steve!
excelente , que delicadeza de trabajo te felicito Guys , desde Argentina , saludos a vos y a tu familia
Muchas gracias por mirar y el comentario agradable Rudolfo
Amazing job.
Thanks Frank!
awesome!
Thanks Charles!
you have almost all best power tools in the market. (:like)
Ali Mirazimzadeh yeah it's a shame the video consists of little more than pushing wood through all his best power tools. Although he did use a hand tool to fit the hinges!
Very nice box and lot of precise work, Guy. At the first moment I was surprised when you were rounding sides of the lid, but at the end it looks interesting on finished product :-)
Thanks Jan! The lid design was what originally drew me to make the piece.
Beautiful result and nice jigs!
Thanks Carlos! You know me and my jigs....
Excellent, very nice...!
Cheers...
Thanks Adam!
Very good 👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Your sound is so good I almost want to use ear plugs just watching it.. lol
Great video, I enjoyed the silent aspect, reminds of what it is like to work alone in my shop. Thanks for making and sharing.
Thanks for watching and the nice comment Tim!
No talking maybe good for some, but what is the point of listening to a bunch of machine noise with no explanation of why and what you are doing. Sure we see the operations and understand what they are. You might as well sleep up the video 25 times realtime. The video would impart the same value.
Guy you have made some very good instructional videos, demonstrating techniques and how to use various tools.
In my opinion this is not the path to go down, share your talents, but this style of videos does not do that.
I click cause I like walnut, but OMG that is well built.
Thanks!
Very nice project and video.
Hey Ted! Thanks!
very good work. well done!
Thanks for watching!
Nice work Guy!!
Thanks Andreas!
fantastic job 👍
Thanks Andrew!
Guy, Very nice. I am just getting into box making myself. I like the technique you use and I learned a lot from this. I just Subscribed and will look for other work you have. Thanks
John in Pensacola, Fl.
Thanks John and welcome!
Lindo trabalho to encantada
Un trabajo muy delicado que voy a tratar de imitar!!! Felicitaciones.
¡Gracias por mirar!
excellent videos, new to woodworking, what is that called that is holding the wood upright? I just got the 25 inch LS positioner with the wonder fence and the miter 1000. keep the videos coming you are helping a lot. thanks
found it, a tenon jig.
Man but I got the heebee jeebees at 1:13 when u pulled the panel back over the cutter after routing that slot... 😨😨😨 especially with no featherboard or any other kind of support to prevent the bit grabbing the workpiece away from the fence ...
I say this because I DID this when I was learning how to use my own router table several years ago...& it DID grab.... luckily I wasn't injured... but a lesson well learned... 😔😔😔
Nice vid tho... subbed & liked... time to dip into your archives... 🤗
Strong, silent type. I always enjoy your video's but do prefer to hear your melodic tones as you build. Great work, as always. Thanks for sharing.
HaHa. Just trying something a little different. Thanks for the input!
Modern craft.and skill men...
Good
Thanks Andika!
Did you do the carcass miters on the router table?
B-e-a-utiful
Thanks Joseph!
Nice work! Wondering where you get your stopped hinges?
I like it
Thanks Ali!
You knokw I never thought of doing mothers on the router table. Learn something new every day.
glad you took something away from it Jason!
GuysWoodshop miters not mothers haha
about time you made a 1 part video
It was a little different for me that's for sure. But I really enjoyed making it. Thanks for watching!
well done !
Thanks Bob!
This walnut jewelry box was awesome. I would like to have the plans if you have them. Let me know how much you would like for them?
Nice, very nice work. I've been subscribed for 2+ years and just realized I had not checked the bell to be notified.
Do you have plans for your projects?
How much money have you spent on tools, approximately.
I guess one of my mistakes is cutting my mitres on the miter saw, all the youtube woodworkers seem to use the table saw as much as it is possible
Nice Job! Liked that you clocked the screws. But then I’m a bit pedantic!
How thick is the top? A 3/4 in thick frame and panel seems like it would look way too thick but working with 1/2 in material would only leave 1/8 in of material for the mortise walls (using 1/4 in tenons). Really enjoyed the video.
This box is absolutely phenomenal Guy! Love that walnut! Did you apply dye at end?
Thanks Brian! Nope, Just a BLO finish then dark paste wax over the top of that. The finish and color of this is incredible.
@@GuysShop Just saw this video and I'm blown away. Beautiful! I love working with walnut and I'm particularly interested in the dark paste wax and the look it created in this project. Did you buy it or make it? Can you provide info on brand and where you bought it? I'd love to give it a try. Thanks!
Your videos are quickly becoming my favorite videos to watch on UA-cam. You always show the process well and push the boat out on every project. It's nice to see original work and not just variations on the same theme every time because you need to make a video every week.
Nice work once again.
Jewan
Thanks Jewan, I really do appreciate the nice things said, and your support!
Outstanding workmanship, beautiful box.. but how do people make a profit making and selling these items?? This is obviously quality but how many hours are invested in producing this fine piece and how much would it actually sell for if that were your intent? Please forgive my asking, I know this is not a video on how to sell what you make, it's just that I've always admired how folks like you can do this without going completely bankrupt for the love of woodworking. I have every tool I saw you use in this video, I've been a "garage woodshop guy" for close to 30 years and it's very expensive as a hobby.. how in the world do you do it? Thanks for a great video, I hope it's not offensive asking a question off topic..
why the card scraper? what are the use case scenarios?
Nice video. I Watched it at least 5 times. What is the name of the tool you used for the hinges?
May I ask where you got the gold colored pieces on your router and the tablesaw!
Thats all Incra equipment
I love how he lets his tools do the talking
Blackson J , I agree with you. I think if a guy comes here to see what his box looks like, and is considering copying it, he has enough expertise to make it and doesn’t need a lot of extraneous babble.
Sir mujhe chahiye kitni price hain our kaha milega
Какая порода дерева используется!???
i make them the same way i find its the easiest and nicest
Thanks!
nice video thanks for sharing
Thanks!
Hey there, love the box brother. can i ask what bit u used from the box profile?
Thanks! Not quite sure what bit you are referring to
GuysWoodshop for the box top profile. The cove bot
So I need a squeeze bottle for my shellac and I need more shellac and I need to make a 45* ramp for my shooting board. Thanks Guy
HaHa. The 45 degree ramp is nice for box parts, and I'm really glad I have it now. The finish on this is BLO then wax over the top of it, no shellac flakes were harmed in the making of this video. And yes, I do also have a small squeeze bottle for my shellac :) You're welcome!
A marvelous thing, Finish is a little dark. I love boxes
Guy what kind of tenon jig are you using ?
It's a Delta.
