I may start taking retreats from the world' insanity for peace, for quiet at some places I've learned of in Idaho. God knew we would need places of His serenity, and I think its why we've monks and brothers, sisters and nuns. Beautiful souls in a world truly in need of God' beauty.
Me too! The call came a bit late-I was 40, married and a mom,and most monasteries won't accept you at that age. I think that is changing somewhat now. God calls when He calls. I discovered oblates. Check it out.
The Rules of St Benedict are very strict.Vows of obedience, chastity and poverty. All day and night praying .Canonical hours starting at midnight, following half an hour of meditation.Abnegagion of the secular world. The Capitulum is monthly. It means in the library being accused by the brothers of faults or sins on knees and hitting the floor with humiliation. All dedicated to God.The soul can be full of darkness.Etc.A vocation to serve full time to the Lord.
I dont mean to be offtopic but does someone know of a way to log back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid forgot my account password. I love any tips you can give me
SUCH A BEAUTIFUL DOCUMENTARY! DESERVES TO WIN AN EMMY.I pray for more vocations.Just watching the video touched me ...the beauty, power, love and mystery of God.To be called into this way of life is to me a great blessing and glory to God! I enjoyed and learned a lot from it.May many more men be called...I will pray for that!
It's so beautiful there and what a great community. The only thing I miss is the latin when they pray their "Liturgia Horarum" throughout the day from Laudes to Completorium.
I lived at mount savior monastery during my teenage years and went to Notre Dame H. S. While living with Fr James as my guardian and spiritual father also, those were the greatest times running around the monastery as a teenager, I left the monastery after graduating high school and joined the US navy, I wanted to stay and become a monk, but I was told I was too young and I still needed to go out in the world and learn about it before making a decision, this all happened back between 1993 and 1995
Siento una gran alegría al conocer la presencia de estos hombres dedicados a la oración y la contemplación....si el mundo habrá de salvarse sera por ellos....Bendito sea Dios...Todo mi amor y admiración a ellos y a la vida contemplativa...
May the monks have the holy spirit in them and God loves us when darkness comes with the holy God we can call on God and the HOLY spirit in us and holy spirit will guide us in all truth inside us and may God help us in our lives and may God help us in all decisions all decisions
Rule of St Benedict Ch 42: 'Monks should be silent at all times but especially at night, This should always be the rule whether it is a feast day or not,'
I’m hurting and I’m disappointed with pope Francis. I’m upset about what’s happening to the holy Catholic Church. I’m Also struggling with SSA. Maybe I should go to this monastery for a retreat. Perhaps I will find what I’m looking for. “Peace, faith, love and acceptance. Regardless I will keep you all in my prayers. May God bless you all and your amazing community. I must have watched that hymn. They sung during Compline a few dozen times. It was so beautiful. And the brother that played the harp and sang was incredible. What a true blessing this monastery is. For the glory of God and the human race.
May the Holy Spirit lead you to the answers you are looking for. May He give you peace, peace that Jesus promised to His Disciples. Our Lady Help of Christians, pray for us...
Bless you, Ryan. Go to 'Gratefulness.org' and on this site, it would help you to contact someone and to know more about a visit to the monastery etc. Think someone can help you. Elmira, NY contact@gratefulness.org
I went to this monastery on retreat in winter 2018. The monks were inhospitable, even hostile at times. The food was atrocious, believe me I’m not fussy but it was dreadful. I nearly froze to death in a more than basic room. Don’t go there looking for acceptance. A retreat won’t fix your problems just accept yourself as you are and start from there.
@@huub1989 What a sad testimony. I have found unkindness and inhospitality in many so-called servants of God. This has taught me that not everyone understands the truth of the word of God, just because they say they do. I have found that the Word of God is true, though many of his so-called servants are jerks.
I don't think I have ever heard a bad thing about Trappists in my life and every time I have seen them portrayed in fiction they have been very helpful and educational to the protagonists.
Even if he arrived in 1957 as a teenager, Father Gabriel would have been born in the early 1940's which means he is pushing 80. He looks a lot younger than that.
Brother David Steindl- Rast, born in 1926 in Vienna, Austria and is a monk there, He came with family to the USA and went to Elmira, NY, and Monastery in 1953. He is noted worldwide! Written many books. Public speaker and very interesting life he has had! He came there at a very young age.
Leider ist mein aktives englisch verloren gegangen. Jedoch verstehe ich Euch, liebe Brüder. Es ist mitreißend und wichtig diese Botschaft in die Welt zu tragen.!!!
I lived with Father/brother James when I was living at mount saviour, he saved my life and adopted me and put me in Catholic h.s. but I joined navy after graduation. I didn't want to impose on them any longer or let the people who live around their say and think I'm trying to live off the monks for money
Our Father who art in heaven...............................................................................................>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I was with them many times
One has to pursue this call in his late teens/early 20s. After that, one has too much life experience and it is incredibly easy to be ensnared by the material and corporeal temptations of the world. One also has to be a morning person. If you're not, forget it. It will never work. Some orders have services at midnight or 3 am. It wasn't for me. There is also a lot of farming and other back-breaking work. If you like having your own bathroom or a double/queen bed, forget that as well. Yes, there are moments of intense spiritual elation and the chant is glorious. The poverty aspect isn't really bad at all. It's actually quite liberating. Your nose will always be in a book so keep that in mind as well. No TV, no movies nor video games. Some orders are meatless. Wine on occasion. You'll never have a martini again. Focus is on the Lord and the community as a whole. It takes a very special and somewhat naive/altruistic person to make this life work. Dedication is key but it can be done!
Just an observation: I don't see young faces therefore no new vocations. In other Benedictine monasteries, you see new vocations. What happens to the monastery when all the monks grow really old and pass away?
That's a great question, many times if a community is not able to sustain itself it will be absorbed by another monastery. Even though they are closed for covid, 15 years after the film was completed, the monastery is still in operation.
I have some disagreements with the catholic church. Having said that, monk style dedication and devotion to their faith is truly a beautiful sight to behold.
A monk lives in a communal life and in singular cells to sleep. There is no privacy. The body is fighting the pleasures of the World constantly. You really have to have a full dedication to the Lord. Can you ? Miserere mei Deus.....
Are you required to have a voice in order to join the monastery? I have watched several videos about Trappist Monasteries and all the voices were very accomplished. Not a tune deaf monk among them. So lovely.
I encourage you to contact them and then go as a guest and stay a week and see their lifestyle first and talk to the monks. Also pray and receive communion and confession to gain clarity for your vocation. Fasting also helps
So funny, I'm a speech pathologist and recognize an educated, well articulated voice when I hear one. Now I know who she is. She does weekly radio announcements which struck a memory cell in the left side of my brain! Thanks@@mortalclown3812
The Peace of Christ be in your hearts. 22.32 on the video he speaks about the animals as food with some awareness BUT Genesis 1.29 gives us an idea and life style of compassion to all beings. So we should eat a way not to hurt our brother animals ? we can get all our needs from mother nature with less harm . Infinite's blessings

Brother James explained the difference of the God from the Old Testament to the Man people call God now. Not in those words just pointed to where to find the answers
Brother Stevens Priest referred to him as nothing but an old drunk. After his death. I saw him walking about after his death. Very oppressed and abused
Julian i will pray for you, dont let nobody stop you and dont take no for an answer. They are located in Elmira NY. Give up the world and in turn you will have paradise. When your on your death bed you will be very happy that you did while still able to

From a 100 seminarians maybe less than 10% become priests, monks. They cannot cope with the monastic life.

Yes, but honestly i don't know if I would have that kind of discipline 🤔🙏✌🤷♂️

Earl Batcho. Did you stay in the Navy? I’m guessing you didn’t return and become a monk. Or are you still thinking about returning to the community?

The ordinary is extremely extraordinary, says thr prior. They are lucky to have such a leader.

Wish I had done this.
The older brother who resembles Sean Connery told me at one time he gained many scars on the streets of NYC

We all have darkness in our hearts. Without Godliness, we are the Beast
Mary said her Son was as a KIng when He rode into town on His donkey, Sunday.

They don't accept young people. I was 22 yrs when I applies but since many of them were old, they told me to look elsewhere
Some monasteries have been shut down and the land sold off and the last 2 or 3 remaining monks transfer over to another monastery of the same order.
I have some disagreements with the catholic church. Having said that, monk style dedication and devotion to their faith is truly a beautiful sight to behold.
That’s ok to have, there are no perfect religions.....simply because NO ONE IS PERFECT 🇺🇸🕯🔥

where do they get all the material things they have in this video? They don't just live off the land and get computers etc.
