@@gideonstactical Totally agree, I think Olight do make decent products as you say but they don't really stand out as being better than any others. There are plenty of other manufacturers and they don't need to spam so aggressively. You will laugh but I still get a lot of mileage from my Klarus, Lenser and Inova torches. The thing I also dislike about Olight is the misleading lumen advertising. Yes, they have amazing output for their size but they 1. Don't have the appropriate reflector size to utilise that lumen output efficiently. 2. The runtime on max lumen is incredibly short to protect from overheating and overloading the battery. 950-1100 lumens in a small package is great, for all of 30 seconds... *sarcasm*.

It's all about becoming THE brand name that enters everyone's heads when they think of the product type... like how Hoover has become a generic term for a vacuum cleaner - Even if yours is a Vax or a Dyson, you still hoover the carpet, eh! As for Olight... I have a fair few of the diddy ones myself, but only because they were free and they're cute. For big boy stuff (and even small-ish general usage) I still favour Fenix and Nitecore. I bought a Perun Mini for a friend and was impressed enough that I was considering one for myself, but the max lumen runtime (1,000lm in this case) is not the biggest kicker... it's the really big drop-off to 250lm on the next level down, and then only for 1.5hrs.... Fenix, by comparison, offer a very similar model (same form factor and everything) that maxes at 500lm, but for up to 2hrs and the drop is to 130lm for up to 10hrs. Perfectly capable when you need the power, but far better performance overall, and only 5mm larger than the Olight.
I’ve purchased one of those LD 15 from Fenix. I carry it as part of my EDC. I use the 2 way pocket on the LD 15 when I’m wearing a fleece jacket or vest, I’ll either put the light collar, or in the front of either the jacket or vest when I’m wearing it partially open.
Love the content. I’ll be grabbing one soon. I have a Fenix pd35 v3. First “edc” flash light. Went from a mini mag light that I had around but now carry the Fenix daily. Love it so much. The versatility of Fenix is great. I picked up a CL20R that I carry in an edc bag and it’s amazing.
I plan on getting a new flashlight in the near future but I’m really not big on 90 degree flashlights and I’m not big on the 123 batteries,next flashlight I get will run on a 18650 and have a max output of atleast 1,000 lumens..I’m eyeing one of the Olight Batons for around the $60 range
The LD15R would be an ideal search and rescue tool if it had a longer barrel with a bigger battery capacity. (Think LD15R capability/features with an LD22 battery.)
The battery only has a capacity of 700mAh? Uhm... a cheapo rechargeable AA from IKEA holds 2450mAh. And I can buy 4 of those for one of CR123. Am I missing something here?
But the voltage is higher... Much lower selfdischarge..(about 20 years) Cold/hot resistant.. I know what you mean but for an real emergency flashlight it's better your drive with Lithium battery. I leave one in my car and one in the kitchen. The other flashlight (EDC) I drive with Ladda and Eneloop.
So I am an army medic as well as a civilian paramedic and I am having a hard time deciding what edc light would be the best for me in terms of ruggedness, simplicity and output. I see a lot of options but im not sure where to settle. What would you recommend?
I like some of the features on that light but I'm not a big fan of the 123 form. Too short and power limited. Not a good performance for price ratio. I'd rather have a AA/14500 than a 123. Just my opinion.
I’ve Pretty Much been a Surefire guy mostly because of the Tactical aspects, But the battery situation is DEF. an issue, costly and must be replaced quite frequently.rechargeable models are very costly. Pill bottles make excellent cr 123 battery carriers. Just put a plastic spacer between the two layers.One bottle holds six cr123 batteries.
