Along with Negative Approach, this is probably the most pure example of hardcore out there. None of the smarmy bad singing of 70s punk, no breakdowns or metal influence that would come with later developments in the genre. Not that there is anything wrong with those things but this is about as grounded as the genre gets. Just fast, ferocious punk. Plain and simple.
It's a bit formulaic but very clean hardcore without the noise. Add Fear and SOA to this list. Lee Ving from Fear has a clear and concise vocal quality. To me, that's purity. Listen to "I Don't Care About You (Fuck You)". Or SOA's song "Gonna Have to Fight". The EP No Policy was produced in 1980 and it's clean, clear, crisp, PURE hardcore.
Chaos UK's "Britain's Burning" EP 1982 & Poison Idea's "Pick Your King" E.P. the year after. Same kind of feel, different sides of the Atlantic Ocean...

Unarguably the best hc created. So good I can't make out one word to at least half the songs. PI passed me by somehow. Glad they did because I have something to listen to at age 52. Am I making sense at all?

Was a giant huge poison idea fan but was growing sick of the. Metal they starting playing... Feel the darkness brought back that Portland feel... Almost as good as record collectors ep
The best American hardcore 7". Take your Neg Approach, Minor Threat, Koro, Boston stuff etc... This is the one that stands head and shoulders above them all.
Really for my opinion is the best album from the PoisoN IdeA...with Black Blackout VacanT too...Punk/Core never DIE... Greets fron the fuckin' Greece/AthenS...
Joder!!, pero que material, supongo que es en inglés pero es lo de menos, es el POGO que nos hizo vibrar una década. Y buenos grupos como éste en concreto!!@@@💣💣✊️✊️✊️
They only played Boston twice in 10 years I saw them the second time with my friend fan working through special ever hung out with pig champion after the show
Tom was my schoolmate, my friend, and my housemate before and during the Pick Your King era. Poison Idea practiced in the basement of that house for a few years. Most intelligent person I've ever known. And my hero, as well!
Saw them many times during War all the Time through We must Burn years living in Portand. This Debut though is a masterpiece of HC, IMO the only thing that comes close to it is the 1st Negative Approach e.p.

LOL. Siege, Deep Wound, Negative FX, Adrenalin OD, Agnostic Front, Neon Christ, Attitude Adjustment, Cryptic Slaughter, No For An Answer, Carry Nation, Wide Awake, Unit Pride, Infest were all faster.

Did not realize their early stuff was this great.
Greatest punk ep of all time
def. in the top 10

Seeing Jerry blow fire over the pit after he slammed half a fifth of jack, broke the glass and sliced his own forehead. Intense as fuck.

This was the only Portland band I knew of when I moved out here nearly 25 years ago. Still the absolute Kings of Punk!
The shows in SLC were fuckin epic. War All the Time.
Saw them in Portland in '98. Good Times!
My mom didn't like me having this on a t-shirt because 'Jesus isn't poison >:('
Neocons, lmao.
Please be 1983 again.
Still some of the gnarliest guitar and bass tones ever put to tape.
There is less minutes than songs on this EP. How class 👏
One of the best of all... Punk band...And dont forget Bad Brains ;) Or the first MC 5 hell yehhh...
Does anyone have the lyrics to “Last One”?
Yeah, why are those lyrics missing ?
The most european Hard Core in USA. and I like it.

Fucking do it!!! Grind and bleed for it
The Genesis of Hardcore.
I meditate to this
Used to go see these badass hardcore boys at the crystal ball room in Portland, saw em at the community world theater in Tacoma wash
13 tracks and not a single guitar solo. Just BLISS. The only serious challenger to the Bad Brains ROIR cassette.
This is Their Best, My Fave from PoisonIdea.
