- CivilNet talked with innovative, experimental documentary filmmaker Godfrey Reggio, who is participating in the 10th Annual Golden Apricot International Film Festival.
I love that a 40 year old film without dialogue can be more relevant than ever to this day.
I'll never forget the first time I saw 'Koyaanisqatsi'. It literally took my breath away. I know that sounds so cliche, but still, it's true. I was completely hypnotized by it. And, it spoke a Truth to me. I became very evangelical about it, urging friends and others to see it. I love how he redefines what 'language' means. I love that there's not one spoken word in the film, and yet, it speaks so forcefully! Thank you Mr. Reggio.
Here Here my friend!
I really want to watch it but cannot seem to get access to it outside the US. Help!
When I saw it for the first time I could see the world with another point of view for the first time in my life. It was incredible to see human impact on this planet. Living in the caos.
Same here
For me the best Documentary of all time.. This is the film that is a relic of our time..the document for aliens that will find our remains at some faraway times...
This video have 150 likes and 0 dislikes. No one in their right mind could dislike the intelligent Mr Reggio.
Godfrey Reggio, what a brilliant mind. I've always wanted to meet him in person.
Koyaanisqatsi is one of the soundtracks of my life. It is my thinking music, which I love. Thankyou all.
As soon as he said he'd seen a life-changing film i was on alert. When he mentioned Buenel. I mentally shouted,"Say it: ' Los Olvidados'! He did. That film stayed with me. "City of Gold" is worth seeing too. Comic book super hero movies have their place and are sometimes more serious then they are given credit for, they can be modern equivalents of myths and morality plays but most are preposterous and strain for a significance they can't attain. Great films can change your experience of the world. Reggio's are great films.
los olvidados changed my perspective of living and my mindset when I was 8 years old... now im 20, I've been 10 years shooting and loving reggios work and now the same sh happened to me, as soon he was talking of a life changing movie I thought of los olvidados and then when he said Luis Buñuel my skin started tickling and my heart beat rised. Reggio, Buñuel and Ariel Figueroa such an inspiration for me since I was a kid
No one ever asks him the question I would have. How does he feel that the style of his film has become the standard style of advertising? You can't watch a tv show without sitting through two or three car commercials imitating Koyaanisqatsi. It's been like that since the early 90s and his influence has increased over the years.
the irony right?
@@glassjaw2007 Less irony and more the beast co-opting that which exposes the beast.
Check out Reggio's interview on Singularity, he talks about exactly that
@@dreamlandnightmare Correct. Capital is a beast which will devour anything it needs to devour in order to survive.
"I'm a prisioner of this world..." I thing Godfrey is one of the most fascinatig men in the world.
Very good interview, thank you

Other wise, there would be a lot a better world.

The guys a genius
Los olvidados is a masterpiece, my favorite Buñuel film
Met him about 1981 and attended some of the dubbing sessions for Koyannisqatsi. And I saw "Los Olvidados" about 1974❗
Must have been a one-of-a-kind experience.
AMAZING!!!
Oh and yeah, I love that NO ONE has given this a thumbs down.
His hair is great!
Love the Qatsi trilogy. He's done ok for himself
That film is embeded into my DNA. No more to comment!
His voice is fantastic. Just like Scottie Pippen's one :)
Reminds me George Carlin from time to time
@@bonvabriones First thing I thought when I heard him. Nailed it.
I hear echos of Wittgenstein's early work and J. Krishnamurti's ideas about the world and relationship in this interview.
First thing that popped in my head once he started about language and its limitations.
The people in this comment section are my kinda people

The New Message from God, received by Marshall Vian Summers (look him up, a humble Messenger for our time and the times to come) brings a warning, a blessing and a preparation for the new world we are entering and are living in already today. It is not based on any existing religion or ideas, it is a new message for our time and the times to come.
So you can't spell Godfrey without God?
Akram fezgekri maltan
I don't care what anybody says, that's Bernie Sanders.
