Really sad, that this awesome video doesn’t get the attention it deserves. Well, I hope this comment cheers you up, because I really liked your work. Finished Kaiji yesterday, one of the most thrilling experiences I have ever made with anime.
That is incredibly nice of you to say. Progress has been a little slow lately and I'll take any encouragement I can get. I'm a little torn about how I should feel about lack of exposure. More views and (especially) comments would be nice, but I'm also still in the stage where I'm learning a lot from each video, and staying obscure for a while might not be the worst. I love Kaiji too, and while I wish it got more attention, the lack of people covering it did help push me to make this video, which is nice. It's also cool to be one of the few Anitubers with a high-effort Kaiji video.
I relate a lot to Kaiji. And no one wants to give me a chance. and I’ve never had one. And I’m 21. I don’t want to go and gamble, but I do realize my flaws. I feel as though everyone has been in Kaiji’s point at some point, feeling lost and not knowing where to go. After seeing your video, and putting a loser like Kaiji on a higher pedestal, and albeit a more positive one, I really do look up to him a lot more now because of you. So thank you, deeply from the bottom of my heart, thank you for this video.
I love him because of his flaws which makes me relate to him much more, even more so with his every defeat. In the Man-Eating Bog Arc, when he was in a very disadvantaged position where he is sure to lose; instead of standing up for himself and expressing his strong will as is most common in generic MCs in anime, he pleaded for a draw. The embarrassment I felt was not even second-hand. This anime humiliates you for rooting for trash like Kaiji, yet I could not help but be drawn to him.
Kaiji is an extraordinary human being and is an example for everyone of us. He sacrificed everything for his friends and even tho he is a kind of jackass and an idiot, his will to live and trust in his homies are what gets him foward. This video is underrated.
There have been no series that have made me tear up, root for and cheer for the protagonist as much as kaiji. He's honestly the character I think of first when I think of who is, and what it means to be a hero. Great video!
Man I hope they animate part 3 in the future, it was heartbreaking to see what happened to Kaiji after part 2, in which also leads up to part 5 which imo the best arc of Kaiji
There is a manga made by the same author called Akagi, which I only watched the anime, and it's really good because the protagonist seems like the kind of your typical "super smart" protagonist but truly he is just a really good gambler with good intelligence. So after enjoying that trip I went to see Kaiji (I still gotta finish it) and it's a complete 180. And I love it. I really enjoyed Kaiji for completely different reasons than Akagi, that while the later is very fun to watch, the former is far more relatable. (My point is that you could talk about Akagi =V) Really good analysis, I feel it deserves more views.
When a new bro watches Akagi, the mindset he has almost sounds like what you would hear from an antagonist. Also if you wanna see what happens after, you can read Ten as well
I watched Kaiji almost 3 years ago, and it was instantly cemented as one of my all time favourite works of fiction. This video is great, it makes me want to rewatch the anime.
This is one of my favorite videos ever. I just watched 2 or 3 other videos about this length or longer trying to find this video again. I'm glad I was finally able to find it, and I've put it in my Favorite video playlist. I love so much your insight: Initially sharing resources due to self-doubt, Kaiji evolved to handle the group's assets independently, transitioning from evenly distributing resources to confidently managing them himself as his self-trust grew throughout the series.
One of the best video essays going over the character of Kaiji I ever watched. With Squid game getting a lot of peoples attention I hope some will jump over Kaiji and when my friends do I'll be sure to show them this.
Kaiji was a show that re-affirmed my trust in anime. It showed to me that under the hoardes of mediocrity, unoriginality, cash-grabs and incel-bait that some people are willing to use the medium to its fullest in order to make unique experiences. It's a shame that we've never and possibly will never get a Season 3 because shows like this will never be in demand given the current state of the anime community.
The later parts are not suitable to be anime because the games are too complex and the majority of the storytelling is happening in thoughts with very little physical movements. People would get so lost unless they've read the manga once already.
I love your perspective on Kaiji and it's characters, It really emphasizes Fukumoto's characters and I think your end summary of Kaiji as a character really hit the nail on the head in terms of Kaiji's biggest strength which although it was and is gradual throughout the series is trust. Thanks for this!
Great video man! I love Kaiji so much, but I've never thought about his character this way. Now I see him in a totally different light! Keep up the good work, you just gained a subscriber!
Thanks. Yeah, Kaiji is one of my favorite characters, and while a lot of fans (me included) get hyped when he plays 4D chess with other players, I've always felt like there was this other, more human, side to how he operates that doesn't get nearly enough attention. My goal with the video was to try to round out the conversation a bit. Definitely appreciate the encouragement, and the subscription.
Glad to see that your video is getting more views, when I told my friends that this was one of my favorite animes they thought I was weird but it's brilliant. I love everything about kaiji, he doesn't hide the fact that he's scared and makes mistakes constantly and at times trusts people too much. The speech tonegawa gives on the bridge arc was a defining moment for me. That speech about people not realizing how real life is till they're on their deathbed resonates with me till now. I'll never forget it. I already loved the anime but your analysis is spot on and hits on the same things I love about kaiji. That's not even touching on how exhilarating the show is, kaiji is sometimes very dumb but when he's smart, he's brilliant! Be blessed man, good content like this speaks for itself, one day hopefully the yt algorithm will take it far and it's steadily growing right now. As long as you put out good content, the fans will appreciate it. I def do.
Just stumbled on the Kaiji series recently and loved it! It's one of my favorite anime now. Then I find this commentary on Kaiji and it is really well thought out and clear, amazing job! Subscribed!
compared to the main character of a show also about death game and things like that that is popular right now, kaiji seems to be such a great and complex character
I watched kaji a few months ago and what i can i say... I freaking loved it. And all this time i was looking for something just like this. You described it so perfect that right now i'm grinning here like an idiot. This video was so satisfying. It's allmost like you described what i was thinking this hole time. A perfect analysis of what makes kaiji so special. Nice work. I really appreciate your work. By the way video editing, music etc. was really good. Greetings from Germany
you better get ready for the manga because it gets CRAZY part 3 is good even if you don't know majong( i also didn't know it) part 4 is really good part 5 is amazing and part 6 is ongoing but it's great. i really liked the video and i would like an update on it once you read the manga. also sidenote trust is gonna play a major role in the manga.
Yeah, I really need to just buckle down and read the manga at some point. Starting your own channel makes you realize how behind you are in actually consuming the media which gives you material for videos. I imagine I will have something to say when I do catch up, though I have no idea what form that will actually take. Also, I feel a bit silly about the majong comment, since I keep getting told it isn't a big deal. I'll take people's word for it that it's not hard to understand.
Great analysis! I have been debating whether to start Kaiji but this video has convinced me to give it a try. The way you couldn't help breaking into laughter at the end was great. 😂👍
incredible fucking analysis and delivery throughout, fantastic point of view. You are the master of enjoying this show, and I just think that is fucking awesome.
I know I’m very late but this video is really well done, you encapsulated everything I adore about this show and why I regard it so highly in the media. Subbed!
After seeing your video about Giorno Giovanna, I decided to give your channel a look to see what other kind of stuff you had. As soon as I saw a video essay on *Kaiji* of all things, a super obscure gambling anime, I immediately subscribed. I wish you had a Patreon, because I would *gladly* contribute. You certainly deserve more attention than you receive, and if there is ever anything I can do to help you in any way, please do not hesitate to ask.
That is incredibly sweet of you to say. I adore Kaiji, and while the Giorno video was the first one I really felt good about after making, this was where I got a sense of "this is what I can do that other Anitubers cannot". I have been torn up until now about my lack of exposure. In general I feel very confident about my scripts, but know that the production can be a bit rough (I think I've realized that my main issue has been over-processing audio) and wondered if staying obscure while I learn the ropes might not be a bad thing. That said, the lack of exposure can be a bit disheartening (especially the lack of comments, which are my favorite part) and I really do feel like there is a segment of Anitube which would like what I do if I could manage to reach them. I'm really realizing how big a role the algorithm plays in popularity. Like a third of my views have come in the last week, and I'm pretty sure it's because Oceaniz made his Giorno video and mine ended up in his recommended feed. After spending the last month trying to not end up homeless (I live in a pretty tough rental market) I actually do have some stability, and have been thinking it might be time to change my approach to UA-cam. I have 3 or 4 mostly-done scripts, and think I can commit to releasing a video every other week, at least for a while. Part of my issue is I'm too fussy about writing and need to accept that not every idea needs to be perfect. I will be setting up some kind of payment thing at some point. I have a long history of jumping the gun with victory laps before I actually succeed and didn't want to get hung-up on being rewarded for my videos before I actually had some consistent viewers. At this exact moment, having one or two people who kind of give a shit is more than I could ask for, but I will definitely remember you saying that. Hopefully the next few months will be a turning point for this channel and simply being there is encouraging in and of itself.
Good video :) I like the music and I like your voice. This is my favorite character of all time, and many of the things you mention about the character resonate with me. Despite that, I still don't quite know why re-watching the episodes makes me tear up regularly but hopefully I will eventually.

Hey, great video man. Kaiji is probably my favorite show of all time. I still wait for the next manga chapter every week. Your analysis of it was very eye opening, and enjoyable. If you wouldn't mind, I'd love to see your take on the meme that is middle manager Tonegawa, and how incredible of a comedy it creates by using Kaiji's formula.
Very glad you like it. I have not checked out MMT yet, though I really need to. I actually got a few chapters into Strongest Man Kurosawa and it's really made me want to check out all of Fukumoto's other works because I was amazed at how strong his writing is, even when the gambles are removed. I really do want to do something with the spinoffs and other properties (even if it's just a "why you should read/watch"), but it's definitely not going to happen anytime soon.
Great video! I think you hit the nail on the head with the points you made. I really, really enjoyed the two seasons there are of the main story. I love Kaiji as a character, the story and world are surprisingly sober for anime (look at Kakegurui, for instance. Another gambling anime, and I love it, but it's more fantasy gambling, to me anyway. The characters and the concepts, and of course they are in high school). I also love the exaggerated features of the characters. I really would've loved for there to be more. One can only hope this show one day gets the attention it deserves.
I just finished this anime and I gotta say it's some good shit. U helped describe what makes kaiji so likable and yet, he's such an idiot at the same time.
There was no dissonance in the soundtrack. So I think it was a pretty ok job at editing from my layman's non-editor perspective. And mega-yes. Trust is more valuable than gold.
Hey man, this video's stellar. Also see that you cover some other animes that I love (Shiki especially) consider this another sub! Keep up the good work, it's earnestly good.
Hey man, amazing video! Kaiji is really underrated as an anime, and watching this "review" (I think) is making me look at your channel and even subscribe!
Wow this is a fantastic analysis, probably the best Kaiji video on the internet or at least UA-cam. Incredibly professional delivery. I guess maybe the last bit where you say “And that’s fucking awesome”, was a bit out of nowhere. I swear all the time so I have no ethical issue with swearing but you had such a professional delivery in the whole video that it was a bit of a jarring shift when you went to the top shelf of the most basic emphasizer words like fuck. Especially when it’s sort of read off of a pre written script, the word loses its dynamic sense of spontaneity. Either way that didn’t ruin or hurt the video at all by any means, but maybe make the video more casual language sprinkled (uses phrases like “he shits all over bitches”, I dunno) or I dunno, is fucking awesome like the only way to describe if something is top of the top notches?
Calebe Stofel Just because those things are so good doesn’t mean they’re what make Kaiji. don’t think of it like something is missing in the manga, they’re just a bonus.
You know I always took Kaiji as someone that got that maybe he is the victim here, but in this very moment thats irrelevant because its do or die. Kaiji and his many friends that are here on the journey do tend to be victims but the thing that separates Kaiji from the rest of the cast is Kaiji will not just stop at "im a victim and OOPS thats it" victim or no, you gotta get out of this debt, you cant just chill out in the slave camps and you cant just weltch on your bets, and you especially cant weltch on you and your friends cause thats just like dudes like Hyodo and Tonegawa, except with less money involved. But I guess that point can be negated with, maybe Kaiji thinks like that but Kaiji is constantly proved to be naive for thinking this half measure. But ahh good video, best Kaiji vid ive seen 3 thumbs up
I don't think I would have ever realized the character development without this video! I do feel like there should be a intro (at least say the anime name) and a spoiler warning, not that anyone would have watched this without knowing who is Kaiji
watching kaiji honestly feels like watching a man fighting for survival unlike most other media that try to portray this never get the feel right. they end up either making the character too good resulting in basically no stakes, because they'll win either way or too bad, resulting in no steaks, because they'll loose either way but for kaiji every game for is a battle. you don't know if he'll succeed, fail, or pull out by the skin of his teeth
Insignificant correction: Tero doesn’t actually use loaded dice, but instead uses double sided dice which only have the number 6,5, and 4. Anyway great video man
Its amazing how a jackass that cries in his room is one of the characters I idolize the most, I would kill to have kaiji as a friend

I feel the same way, I do feel giving up but idk I still have some hope of something happening someday
Kaiji is an extraordinary human being and is an example for everyone of us. He sacrificed everything for his friends and even tho he is a kind of jackass and an idiot, his will to live and trust in his homies are what gets him foward. This video is underrated.
Which homies are you talking about? He got two sets of homies if you read the manga, and they represent different things.
@@goodbrainwork I mean in the anime, the homies he saved from that prison.
@@tulioroberto9438 you gotta continue the story with the manga, his homie situation got turned up-side down, he now has a different set of homies.
@@goodbrainwork Yeah I really should read the manga but I am kinda busy at the current moment.
There have been no series that have made me tear up, root for and cheer for the protagonist as much as kaiji. He's honestly the character I think of first when I think of who is, and what it means to be a hero.
Great video!
Are you anime only, or also manga fan? The manga has some next-level sheet.
Both
Man I hope they animate part 3 in the future, it was heartbreaking to see what happened to Kaiji after part 2, in which also leads up to part 5 which imo the best arc of Kaiji
Kaiji is one of my favourites characters ever, so it's a treat to see a video that explores him from angles I'd never considered before. Great work!
(My point is that you could talk about Akagi =V)
Really good analysis, I feel it deserves more views.
I just noticed his first onscreen gamble was playing Poker at home and losing and his biggest break was one poker what a cool subtle call back
Kaiji was a show that re-affirmed my trust in anime.
Yeah. Although a bigger shame is that so few people move on to Kurosawa, which I might like even more.
Yeah + the composer who was responsible got blacklisted from the music industry
The later parts are not suitable to be anime because the games are too complex and the majority of the storytelling is happening in thoughts with very little physical movements. People would get so lost unless they've read the manga once already.
@@preludethealbum what?!
on one hand you absolutely convinced me to rewatch it
on the other - now I remember all the key points in the plot
Love that you center the video more on Kaiji than in the series. It's an excelent analysis
I always come back and watch this video when I want to be reminded why I love kaiji.
Thanks for making this video.
I love the title
Trust in kaiji
He could be an idiot, but basically, he is a born to be leader. Despite all his flaws.
Kaiji is the brightest gem in this pile of rough we call humanity.
this is the best kaiji vid i've seen, good job man!
Definitely appreciate the encouragement, and the subscription.
how did i get recommended this amazing kaiji analysis video from 10 months ago just now
Same here. I was speechless how good it is
I'm a creator who could be politely described as algorithmically impaired. Thanks for the compliment.
I felt exactly the same but instead of 10 months it's been 20 months
This is so good dude we need more shows like Kaiji
Thanks. I don't disagree, though I'm not sure where we are going to find them.
@@SavetheGreenPodcast yeah problem is shows like Kaiji are difficult to market even for fans of anime
The man with potential of credibility is becoming incredible.
This was nice, and the music made it better.
Thank you; and yes.
@@SavetheGreenPodcast and I agree with you that Kaiji is the MAN.
This is some good shit.
I love the music going along with the tone of your script.
Kaiji is one of the greatest animes I have ever seen, and I love this fucking video too. 10/10.
Bro this was an amazing analysis this fr needs to have millions of views not the amount it has rn
I love this man, I love the way you talk about him boss
I watched kaji a few months ago and what i can i say... I freaking loved it. And all this time i was looking for something just like this. You described it so perfect that right now i'm grinning here like an idiot. This video was so satisfying. It's allmost like you described what i was thinking this hole time. A perfect analysis of what makes kaiji so special. Nice work. I really appreciate your work. By the way video editing, music etc. was really good.
Greetings from Germany
Thank you very much. I'm glad others resonate with my take.
One of the best videos
you better get ready for the manga because it gets CRAZY
part 3 is good even if you don't know majong( i also didn't know it)
part 4 is really good
part 5 is amazing
and part 6 is ongoing but it's great.
i really liked the video and i would like an update on it once you read the manga.
also sidenote trust is gonna play a major role in the manga.
i've watched tthree times this video because is that fucking good, thanks my guy we need more people talking about kaiji
Best manga and anime i must say
This Chanel and show are criminally underrated
incredible fucking analysis and delivery throughout, fantastic point of view. You are the master of enjoying this show, and I just think that is fucking awesome.
I know I’m very late but this video is really well done, you encapsulated everything I adore about this show and why I regard it so highly in the media. Subbed!
Great analysis, I suscribed. Kaiji is the fucking man!
really insightful analysis
stay with me , as the narrator progress he develops his own character too. You sir earned a subscriber
It is a darn shame you don't have more viewers on this video! It is really good and keep up the great work!
I realize I'm late to the party, but excellent video and analysis.
Amazing Kaiji video, man. You just got a like and a sub.
Giving this channel a sub in hopes of one day the manga gets covered or there comes a video on berserk.
The best anime I have ever seen. Well made vid!!!
Good video :) I like the music and I like your voice. This is my favorite character of all time, and many of the things you mention about the character resonate with me. Despite that, I still don't quite know why re-watching the episodes makes me tear up regularly but hopefully I will eventually.
I think a lot of people relate to Kaiji. It's hard not to feel that way sometimes. Glad you enjoyed the video.
This video made me want to watch it. Good job.
Good stuff, looking forward to more :)
I just finished rewatching the anime and i had this
way smarter in memory.
The anime is way simpler than i remembered...
I guess i overdid the thing where you just see
yourself in that person's shoes and you know
you would do better.
But i just rewatched it all and especially with
E-Card, i realized: Wow, he's dumb.
Kaiji is just a bad player.
It's painful to watch him play E-Card without
apparently ever having heard the word Pokerface in
his whole life. Never ever. In his whole life,
he never heard the word. It takes 4 Episodes to
explain the concept to him. The Villains even
get poetically about it.
The Villains really talk this bigger than it is (they love being
poetic in this anime), but it's literally: If you would
do a Top 10 Video for youtube, about what exactly in
exact order of level of simplicity someone could do something,
Kaiji would literally do 9 after 10, 8 after 9, and so on.
This isnt even about reading stuff.
He's just very dumb, a very bad player and just
overall really, really, really bad at playing.
E-Card makes this painfully obvious.
Kaiji is so bad at Poker-Face and just 'Thinking' overall,
his Strategys will fail. Cause everyone can guess his strategy,
as he does Strategy Rank 4 in Simplicity right after Rank 5.
Sorry for the long comment, but whats your thoughts?
Slevin Channel hmm
Read all of Akagi, still can't play Mahjong. (At least well)
This is a very good video, good job!
DUDE THIS IS SO GOOD
I love Kaiji!!!
My favorite Manga/Anime character.
Great review of my favourite anime. How have I not seen this till now
I'm pretty sure I'm just not very algorithm-friendly. Glad you liked it.
Great video. Keep up the good work!
Kaiji is the protagonist of all time.
excellent analysis
I love your work, keep it up :)
Amazing video!
This video is so good!! Gosh, what I'd give for season 3 of Kaiji T_T it's so phenomenal
I just finished this anime and I gotta say it's some good shit. U helped describe what makes kaiji so likable and yet, he's such an idiot at the same time.
This is a really good video.
this is a fuckin awesome video my dude! hope one day you can get the view you deserve.
There was no dissonance in the soundtrack. So I think it was a pretty ok job at editing from my layman's non-editor perspective.
And mega-yes. Trust is more valuable than gold.
great character analysis subbed
Thank you.
Thanks Very Much For This Video!
Kaiji finally gets real partners-in-crime in Part 5
Might be the best analysis of Kaiji on UA-cam - would love to see you do an analysis of Akagi as a character as well.
Hey man, this video's stellar. Also see that you cover some other animes that I love (Shiki especially) consider this another sub! Keep up the good work, it's earnestly good.
got dang i'm glad this popped up in my recommended today, kinda sad i'm late to the party
Hey man, amazing video! Kaiji is really underrated as an anime, and watching this "review" (I think) is making me look at your channel and even subscribe!
Yo this channel another Alexcander? Your review was really great, I've seen quiet a few anitubers and yours is one of the good ones.
I am definitely not him, but glad you liked it.
Phenomenal.
Criminally under viewed video.
We are all kaiji
This is true.
You made my day boss!
nice
Great video! keep it up!
I have finished the 2nd season of Kaiji, and I must say that this is anime is amazing
you should read the manga!
@@josheaster1547 I don't know. The manga does not have soundtrack, and special effects. It is probably not as thrilling as the anime. Am I right?
Calebe Stofel Just because those things are so good doesn’t mean they’re what make Kaiji. don’t think of it like something is missing in the manga, they’re just a bonus.
good stuff chief
But ahh good video, best Kaiji vid ive seen
3 thumbs up
Max, Maxx, Maxxx(Kaiji 2) it was really good. :)
I don't think I would have ever realized the character development without this video!
I do feel like there should be a intro (at least say the anime name) and a spoiler warning, not that anyone would have watched this without knowing who is Kaiji
watching kaiji honestly feels like watching a man fighting for survival
unlike most other media that try to portray this never get the feel right. they end up either making the character too good resulting in basically no stakes, because they'll win either way or too bad, resulting in no steaks, because they'll loose either way
but for kaiji every game for is a battle. you don't know if he'll succeed, fail, or pull out by the skin of his teeth
I’m sorry that I ruined the 420 likes. But I had to like it, it was very well-done and enlightening :)
great video bro
Amazing video, Kaiji is the most badass loser in all of anime
Insignificant correction: Tero doesn’t actually use loaded dice, but instead uses double sided dice which only have the number 6,5, and 4. Anyway great video man
good video, i almost didn't watch it because the name of the video didn't tell me what it was about
Love this video
