- Hi all, this video is just a quick one i threw together while i was replacing my Brake pads and rotors. There was uneven wear on one of the rotors which was caused by a caliper issue. I replaced the caliper but didn't show that part because i just wanted to focus on the pad, rotor swap.
This video is for information purposes only and i am in no way responsible for any damages done to the vehicle in using the information shown.
Amendment regarding 7:00 onwards and resetting the caliper piston.
Although the vehicle in the video is a NON ABS vehicle, some variants of the Generation 2 Pajero/Montero/Shogun were fitted with ABS and the piston resetting procedure must be slightly adjusted as follows to prevent contaminants entering the ABS unit:
1: Place a clear hose over the bleed screw
2: Place the other end of the hose in a jar with clean brake fluid in it, ensuring the end of the hose is well submerged in the brake fluid and no air can enter.
3: Open the bleed screw.
4: Compress the caliper piston. and ensure brake fluid is flowing from the caliper into the jar, watch the hose to ensure no air bubbles flow back into the caliper.
5: When the caliper is compressed, close the bleed screw and remove the hose, making sure you clean up any spills immediately.
6: Top up brake reservoir as needed.

Thanx your video saved my day. Surprised to found the brake shoes in the inside.
Double brake system.
Happy to help out!
just come across this to look and see how to do the rear pads. And it brought me here... cool. I have a gen 2 2.8td lwb Pajero here in England.
very well done Sir. Thanks for sharing. My girlfriends Limited needs the rear brakes replaced. Thanks to your video (and the ABS note) I feel more confident I can perform this for her. Thanks.
Happy to help mate. Just make sure as soon as you finish, you start the car and pump the brakes a couple of times. They will be a bit spongy after you reset the caliper.
Good video made it look so simple. Did you adjust the handbrake shoes after if so how?
Thanks Des! No i didn't adjust them. I did get them replaced though at a later date. I didn't have time to do them myself so i just took it to a brake and clutch mob.
Cheers mate 👍
Wonderful way to ruin ABS unit! Never push pistons back forcing brake fluid back to reservoir. Loosen bleed nipple and attach tubing and then to container, push piston back and fluid will empty into container
. When piston far enough back, tighten nipple and top up reservoir.
This car doesn't have ABS. So it's not an issue on this one. Good reminder though in case someone attempts this on an ABS vehicle, i'll make a note of it in the video description. Cheers.
Have you ever had to replace the rubber brake hose that attaches to the caliper? I can't figure out how to remove mine.
At the other end it screws onto the end of the metal brake pipe, but it looks like the head of the fastener is recessed into a square metal bracket.
Yeah i've removed them before. Where the pipe attaches to the bracket, there's a clip that holds it in. You have to slide that clip out and then the hose will be able to move, put plenty of WD40 on before you start cos they can be mighty tight at times.. I'd also get a set of proper spanners as well or you risk rounding the nut off.
Hey is it possible to adjust handbrake without taking the disc off? is there a hole or something in the back to acces the adjuster with screwdriver?
Not sure hey, i haven't had to adjust it from there. I did however try tightening the cable underneath the car.
Thanks, I have already adjusted it.. There is a hole with rubber cover in the back to adjust the handbrake, so you dont even have to take the wheels off.
Oh awesome stuff!! Glad you worked it out!!
Why did not put some grease o those bolts .. next time will be easyer
You could, but i don't think i'll be removing those brake rotors for a very long time.
What brand of rotors did you use?
RDA
Are thos dobbinsons rear springs?
They are indeed mate!!!
@@wilddonkeyadventures how do you like them? there really isn't anyone in the US using them and was considering picking them up
@@iBIiss I'm really happy with them hey. They give a nice responsive ride without being too firm. I know some folk find the ride a bit harsh, i honestly don't know what they're talking about. LoL They also take the load pretty good as well.
@@wilddonkeyadventures aweome! thanks for the reply I think I'm going to pick them up!
@@iBIiss Just do your research on exactly which ones you want. I got the linear rate 40mm lift, 250kg constant load. But i have a drawer unit in the back and a big spare tyre. If you don't have much weight in the back you might find it a pretty hard ride.
Isnt it there a handbrake cabel or something? Or we dont worry about that?
