That 28mm lens is very sharp. I know, sharpness is overrated for video; but damn. Overall the ZF is pretty impressive even with its quirks. Good job, Kasey.
So happy you are doing Nikon content. Im planning to get rid of ALL my Microfourthirds gear within the next couple of weeks and put all my marbles with Nikon. Please keep up the great content! I think if I can raise enough for the ZF I will be happy with the ZFc or Z30.
The 28mm has pop for sure and love the image quality, for stabe Panasonic is the champ hands down, nobody is even close... The color is weird, a bit too cold for my taste but that easy to fix, feels very natural.
I know the Zf isn't the right camera for that stuff, but if it's anything like my Z8, telephoto stabe definitely is much better. The 180-600 is very good, the 800 PF even better, despite being longer. When panning with the 800 PF, it feels almost like it's panning on its own, once you get it going, super smooth.
Those lens have built in VR, coupled with the camera body system, they will certainly perform better plus, the Zf has better stabilization than the Z8. Some of the Sony cameras aren’t as good as the Expeed 7 cameras however, Sony has software that takes the gyro data and smooth out the footage really well, with some cropping of course but, people don’t mention that. I have the FX30 and had the A7R V, traded for the Z8 and I can tell you the A7R V will show footfalls when walking, paired with the 24-105 OSS it smooths out some of the footfalls and when you stabilize with Catalyst Browse (or Catalyst Prepare, paid version) it’s gimbal smooth, even when running with it. You do end up with a big crop when you do that though. Yeah, I did vlogging test with that and the Z8.
Yellow is always strong too. But I do really like Nikon colors! Their skintones are the best. Yet blue and yellow are a bit bubble gum colors. All in all still the best! 2nd place Fujifilm. 3rd place Panasonic/Leica L2.

I’m so tired of blurry backgrounds. But now I’m 2500€ in on a cumbersome full-frame system that I couldn’t really afford to begin with and the camera (Lumix S5) is going for next to nothing on the used market 😢
Hilarious but I was actually getting nauseous from the warpy tendencies and bogus stab. I know you don’t agree but your high water mark for vlogging is Panasonic. If You only used the 12mm Leica 1.4 instead of the 2.0 Olympus you would have seen the magic. 9mm would also be a magic option. Humour me! Try it again.
Nice to see you in the Nee-Cone system. Just a hypothesis, the stabilization issues may be due to having the focus box too wide. It clearly is trying to stabilize your spazt... er exciting movements, but in doing so making everything else jerky. I used a Z6 for 3 years and never saw it like that. Not always perfect, but not like that. BTW, now that your in the system, I highly recommend getting the ftz and trying out Irix 15mm and 11mm lenses. They are both manual lenses, but send exif data, and maybe it's just me, but Nikon seems to do very well with wide lens stabilization, though with the 11mm you reall don't need stabilization. Also both lenses have focus clutches that tighten the focus to maintain a position as well as a bump you can feel at infinity (nice for star photo---videography). The 15mm is F2.4 and lighter(neither is "light").
Overall, I enjoyed the footage more than I thought I would based on your couple of gripes. Your face looks natural and healthy, colors in general are pleasing w/o straying into fairytale land. IBIS is not gimbal quality but isn't distracting. Weight seems to be the one thing that cannot be eliminated. The prime trumped the Tamron but not by much. Vid looked cinematic, and content was solid.
You're probably looking an a screen with a green or blue tint that neutralises the angry red skintones. On my calibrated screen, the facial redness is indicative of a two hour sauna session.
yeah me too, this is just too much like the sensor readout is too slow and stabe is bad.. Sony and Canon can do better in this area.. Even tho Canon has some wobble also but there is no jitters that much so it doesn't bother me that much.
The grip is the anti grip, aftermarket grip is game changer. I got the z30 for doing vid clips and such. After getting a better lens for it I wanted a better camera for the better lens, now I'm stuck in the Nikon vortex
I can set Canon Log on the Q2 menu…. Movie settings as well. This is on the r6ii. Might be slightly faster in zf but I do not need to menu dive. Do you have the q2 menu set up?
You’re getting into it 😊 This is not the best Nikon option for what you want but meanwhile you have the colors, you have the 3D pop and you’ll have to do a lot less weight lifting 😊 Now you vlog and you get fit at the same time 😊 About the lens, you also have the 20 and the 24 f1.8. Waiting for your next impressions!
I use back button focus and it over rides manual focus in video while recording on my z9. I never noticed half shutter press not doing it while recording until I just checked and it doesn’t override MF.
Definitely the 28mm - T 2.8 had the pop and seemed to ease the Jello effects. I don't mind the colour science of the NEE-CON ;) Did not realize the ZF ibis was not really good.
The image looks cool. Realistic and cool. I can imagine the 26mm looks better than 28 which I have always found too tight, but you would still be sticking it on a tripod I guess.
Slow-motion obsessed goofball or not, Kasey has become the best UA-cam advocate for the video-centric user experience. Would be interested to know if some of you disagree with this. (Someone donate or loan him an iPhone Pro to review. Would be interesting.)
With the face exposure, my a7iv has a setting to select if you want to expose for the scene or the subject you're focused on. Does a7siii not have that setting, or does setting it to expose for subject not do anything in log? I'm not sure how it works on the a7iv because I've always just left it on expose for the scene
I was considering that 26mm f/2.8, but after watching a number of reviews, I decided against it. The autofocus motor is super loud. Stick to the 28mm f/2.8.
The zf bricks weight is its IBIS. This is a photography trait. Heavier the camera, the less jittery vibrations. Welcome to the Z world of super cheap Chinese lenses

The grip is the anti grip, aftermarket grip is game changer. I got the z30 for doing vid clips and such. After getting a better lens for it I wanted a better camera for the better lens, now I'm stuck in the Nikon vortex
I have the Nikkor 26mm, it's a fun lens.
You have to overlook some issues though (weird construction, slower noisy AF)
Finally a mini vlog with tripod👍👍👍👍
I can set Canon Log on the Q2 menu…. Movie settings as well. This is on the r6ii. Might be slightly faster in zf but I do not need to menu dive. Do you have the q2 menu set up?
SAY YES TO THE 28 f/2.8! Knocks yer t!ts clean off. Thanks for a great show.
There is no better option in Nikon right now.
@@cameraconspiracies Probably the Z8... But the next Z6 for sure, if they ever release it... 😃
@@americosequeira8670 z* would be too heavy though, and no flippy screen
Usually there's an AF button that you could press to get back into autofocus mode sometimes it's combined with the auto exposure lock button
I use back button focus and it over rides manual focus in video while recording on my z9. I never noticed half shutter press not doing it while recording until I just checked and it doesn’t override MF.
colors definitely looks very nice and clean, maybe because of more aggressive in camera NR.
Definitely the 28mm - T 2.8 had the pop and seemed to ease the Jello effects. I don't mind the colour science of the NEE-CON ;) Did not realize the ZF ibis was not really good.
Only really panasonic and Fuji (photo only) have good ibis
Interesting video. If you want some 3d pop, put a 65mm f/2 voigtlander on that camera.
You can correct that pinkish hue on the face with spray paint 😝🤙
The image looks cool. Realistic and cool. I can imagine the 26mm looks better than 28 which I have always found too tight, but you would still be sticking it on a tripod I guess.
How about trying a Z8?
Nice video. What about the viltrox 20mm f/2.8.? Not bad and it is cheap and lightweight. I know, it is not a nikkor but it may surprise you.
Slow-motion obsessed goofball or not, Kasey has become the best UA-cam advocate for the video-centric user experience. Would be interested to know if some of you disagree with this.
(Someone donate or loan him an iPhone Pro to review. Would be interesting.)
This is your best looking video.
With the face exposure, my a7iv has a setting to select if you want to expose for the scene or the subject you're focused on. Does a7siii not have that setting, or does setting it to expose for subject not do anything in log? I'm not sure how it works on the a7iv because I've always just left it on expose for the scene
A7S III has that option, but it doesn't seem to always work. The lower cameras ZV1 do it better.
@@cameraconspiracies dang just another thing that the best video camera doesn't get...smh
You can have a black and white in video, just change picture settings in video mode two one of the three b/w picture profile.
That wasn't what we were talking about. I said the dedicated B/W dial doesn't allow for video shooting.
I was considering that 26mm f/2.8, but after watching a number of reviews, I decided against it. The autofocus motor is super loud. Stick to the 28mm f/2.8.
For the first time the colors on skin looks natural
9:00 Sony A7iv has a button next to the screen that auto focuses
with that 28mm prime you popped right into my bath with me... it was scary
The zf bricks weight is its IBIS. This is a photography trait. Heavier the camera, the less jittery vibrations.
Welcome to the Z world of super cheap Chinese lenses
What the hell are you wearing on your feet❓ is that what’s left of your shoes ❓ my head hurts ❗️I don’t understand 3D pop 🤪 so many questions so little time. That dog tried to kill me 😆 loved this ep 👍
great camera
It’s funny…I can’t tell if I am learning anything or getting dumber…but I can’t stop watching! True ENTERTAINMENT!!!!
Under clouds, the colors look best. Having said that - the N-log graded footage is excellent.
