While Arquette had to go along with the plan, he also sent all the money he made in WCW to the families of Brian Pillman and Owen Hart as well as Darren Drozdov aka Droz
Oh, it gets better. Tony Schiavone originally pitched putting the strap on Arquette AS A JOKE during a meeting. Russo took it seriously, and well ... here we are today.

Vacant is also a multi-time champion in boxing. He took the title from guys like Ali, Tyson, Holyfield, and Mayweather just to name a few. Truly one of the greatest athletes of all time.
I don't see how this is even a debate. Russos' reign was a thousand times worse than Arquette. Although it didn't happen, Arquette winning at least had the potential at getting some mainstream attention for the company. Arquette also knew him winning wasn't a good idea, because he respected the wrestling business. Can't really say the same for Russo. Also, Arquette donated all of his WCW paychecks to the widows of Brian Pillman and Owen Hart. That's a very class act if you ask me

I still say Arquette's reign could have been salvaged if he'd come out on the next Nitro, said it was only a fluke that he won the belt, that he didn't deserve it, and voluntarily gave it up. You could then have had the Page-Jarrett match on PPV for the title, and while Arquette would be on the books as a past champion, it would have been put over as "...except he pinned a non-wrestler and only got it because of a bizarre stipulation."
Yes, this is one case where I think that immediately vacating the title would have actually IMPROVED matters.

Vacant is an amazing gimmick actually. He is the personnification of the Void. He is a neutral figure (neither face or heel) acting as a supporting authority/wrestling scholar. His allegiance always goes to the promoter, no matter whether he is immoral or not. He just states cold facts as answer to arguments. He never takes side, not even for himself. His only particularity is how he tells everyone that he is the Alpha and Omega of wrestling and how their efforts are vain because championships come back to him in one way or another. Some envious contenders try to beat the shit out of Vacant and strip the belt by force, but Vacant doesn't sell. No matter if it's a superkick, a Shining wizard, a powerbomb on a table or the most powerful finisher. He gets up and immobilizes the antagonist everytime. He doesn't defeat them in a spectacular way, no, he just kills off their aggressiveness. His downside is that he absolutely doesn't have any fighting spirit. Whenever the promoter makes an announcement regarding the championship bout, Vacant comes and kneel before him.

Actually beating Russo in WCW would be a huge push....think about it, the man booked himself to beat Booker T (for the championship) and Ric Flair. I can rarely recall a time where Russo even lost a match.

Honestly, Russo's run as champion was much worse than Arquette's. While Arquette's run was a transparent attempt to promote Ready to Rumble, Russo's run was his attempt to make himself a star, because all he cares about is being the center of attention.

WCW in 2000 is without a doubt the worst year for any major promotion in wrestling history. Say what you want about WWE now, they would never put the title in Dewey from Scream.
I'd say that 95 WWF is a pretty close second. Kevin Nash champion the entire time, the main event of wrestlemania involving a mid carder versus a football player, mable king of the ring, nash vs mable at summer slam, and all the shit gimmicks.

Well 2000 DID kill WCW. 95 WWF may have been bad, but you could also see the good that was happening, as well as the fact that 95 was just a very very shitty year for wrestling as a whole really. 2000 wrestling was at its hottest and yet this is the absolute worst of WCW. 95 WWF was bad because the wrestling business as a whole was not doing well at all and no one was drawing. 2000 WCW is a whole different level of bad, not just in front of the cameras but behind the scenes as well.

11 title changes (9 on TV) with only 3 vacancies (1 injury, 1 during the "reset", and 1 for story).
5 different wrestlers held the US Championship: Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner, Lance Storm, Terry Funk (house show), Gen. Hugh-G-Rection.
For the mid-card title, based on changes alone, perfectly acceptable.
This little nugget devalues the World Heavyweight belt even more in my opinion. You gotta draw money somehow, but both of your big titles continue to change hands at a breakneck, confusing speed? Damn.

I am seriously sick of people trashing Roman Reigns, it has been a good year and he has never held the WWE championship and you guys still complain about him. You guys complain about him constantly, but there really is no real reason to hate on Roman Reigns. The only argument I have heard was "well the majority of people don't like him, so we are right", and going by popular opinion is such a clumsy argument. Seriously, you guys complained how cartoony the WWE is so they pushed Roman Reigns, a guy who as good in ring skill, and isn't obnoxious or cartoony, and then you guys complain how "bland" and "generic" he is. Matej Terzić okay...let's recap he won the belt at Survivor Series lost it IMMEDIATELY to Sheamus did not win it until an episode of Raw which was at the end of 2015 or beginning 2016.
He held it for a few weeks then lost it in the Royal Rumble to Triple H then won it back at Wrestlemania. Then held it until Money in the Bank lost it to Seth Rollins who immediately lost it to Dean Ambrose haven't touched a world tittle since.
Also he lost his first Wrestlemania main event so it's not even like he won all three. So there's a problem with a superstar main eventing three times in a row? When people wanted Daniel Bryan to be in the World tittle picture at Wrestlemania 30 & 31 then got bitter when it didn't happen?

Well I mean technically Ron Simmons did win it 8 years before Booker.
Now allow me to point out that personally I don't believe in "race" the same way most of the world does, but I will use terms like "Black" or "White" for example so my message will be easier to get across.
There have been "Black" world champions in promotions all over the country, even the world and some are currently still holding them as I write this.
But I think people are most likely talking about the WWE and their lack of booking "100% Black" Superstars to win the WWE Title (R-Truth came the closest like 5 years ago, I think. He did win the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title though, so I doubt the WWE Title matters that much to him.) Going by societal standards, The Rock is "mixed raced" and is described as "Half-Samoan" due to his mother's cultural background and since humanity still treats "mixing races" like it's a new thing, many will not recognize him as a "Black" world champion, even though his father is clearly of "African" descent.
When the World Heavyweight title was owned by the WWE, if you asked any of my friends as children, the World Heavyweight title was their favorite (I liked it, but I preferred the WWE title, given that it was the REAL world title of the promotion.) and we were ecstatic when Booker T won the title, but he did so under that ridiculous "King Booker" gimmick and then Mark Henry won it years later from Randy Orton, he didn't draw as champion, but he was feuding with Randy Orton, so he didn't need to.
Now that I'm older, however, I now realize that WWE's version of the title only seemed to matter when a "White" guy was holding it. When Booker and Henry won it, people looked at it as "The OTHER title" or "The B-Show Title", but when guys like, Edge, Cena, Batista (he's technically a "minority"), Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Jericho, and even another "minority" like Rey Mysterio won the title, it was promoted even more than the WWE title at times.
I'm not knocking any of these guys, though. They're all some of my favorite wrestlers, but it seems to be a common theme amongst WWE writers to not book a "Black" Superstar as a main-event star no matter how over they are and whether or not they have that "World champion look", or whatever the reason may be. Same goes for their treatment of Superstars from the UK, India, Arabia, and even Japan before Nakamura and Asuka came along.
We've yet to see a "Black" guy with either world title in the current WWE. Big E might be getting a push soon. Hopefully Bobby Lashley or even Ricochet will get a shot at either world title before long. Just my insight here, I'm not speaking for anyone, but maybe the WWE is what people are talking about when complaining about there being no "Black" world champions.

Considering Ready To Rumble was utter trash, wouldn't it have made more sense for David Arquette to win the WCW Hardcore Championship? That title was defended only in No Disqualification style matches, so winning with outside help would have been just fine, and it was the lowest ranked belt in the company. Plus Bischoff held it at one point, so it's not like it had much prestige to worry about. And I'm sure Arquette would be okay with it as well since he's not being pushed in favour of guys like Jeff Jarrett and Booker T.

He's also one of the most legit tough guys in the history of the business. He has won many boxing and MMA titles, in fact he is the current Bellator Heavyweight champion. How is that not Hall of Fame worthy?
