One of the most iconic competitions with a small margin of winning, by just over 1.31 point, was the showdown between Alina Zagitova and Evgenia Medvedeva in OG2018. But do you know there were at least 10 times in the past whereby the skaters won by this small margin? What were the drama and controversies behind those wins? In this video, we selected 6 of these tiny wins to talk about. Let's take a look 😀😀
Alexander Zhulin about the OI 2018: "It seems to me that the situation was extremely difficult. Evgenia had an injury, and the Russian Figure Skating Federation was working to ensure that Alina Zagitova's grades were higher. Our country needed a gold medal at the Games. As a result, Zagitova got it, not Medvedeva" In general, Zhenya was exchanged for gold. It seems to me that Tutberidze also did not believe that Yevgenia could be perfect
yuzuru hanyu once said that every time he skates, he bets his life on it. and it shows in his performance each time. i hope he wins more world titles especially the Olympics next year. his first 2 competitions this year were not first placers but he is still the greatest for me ^_^
@@bb__v2452 seriously that time everybody was good and in races for the gold but now it is only nathan or yuzu or shoma sometimes nobody else but ladies is getting more exciting than mens due to the russian domination
While watching this... There are a lot of great skaters like Evgeni and other's but Yuzu is so different, his humility and humbleness incredible, even being winner or not.
@@aniawacht3882 Not sure, maybe in the vids you watched? but when there are group performances, they always pick Hanyu to be the last one to do exhibitions and others, I don't think it is always intentional. If you've seen him long enough, you will know how humble he is, esp. with his colleagues. He is competitive, yes, but very respectful.
Aside from Adelina's "miraculous" PCS growth for the same programs in just 2 months, in what universe could Adelina receive a higher total GOE with her ugly air positions, flutz, underrotation and step-out compared to a CLEAN Yuna Kim in both the short and the long? Adelina's scores at Sochi were asinine. Still waiting for justice...
I don't know how someone can defend Sotnikova's score though. It should not be even close. It's not like we're talking about Yuna/ Mao/ Kostner and who was better that night. Sotnikova has never won anything big prior to Sochi and suddenly her PCS grew 20 pts over couple of months? Not to mention her technical shortcomings (simply by calling Sotnikova's 3Lze-3TUR would flip the podium)
@@yohanes2034 I agree. Just saw that funny comment in our community post a few days ago in fact :P Someone defended Adelina's scores were saying something like her Base value was higher etc (Then Mao Asada should have won that event based on that theory :P)..
@@FigureSkatingFan that BV difference if I'm not mistaken is less than 2 pts combined from both SP ad FS (before Lakernik marked yuna's stsq lv 3 on both) because Sotnikova did 3T-3T and Yuna 3Lz-3T. So that 7 triples vs 6 triples argument does not hold much water. Yuna could close that point easily by GOE and PCS. PCS alone should close the gap.
@@yohanes2034 So true. Actually the only 2 questions we need to ask were - 1. If that event was not held in Sochi? 2. If Adelina is not a Russian? Then would she have won the event? I guess most fans know the answer

Yuzuru was 0.15 points ahead Jeremy Abbott at NHK Trophy 2014 and that tiny margin qualified him to GPF 2014 at which he won gold medal. I know it wasn’t a win but still a dramatic result, not to mention NHK Trophy was only 3 weeks after the accident at CoC

First of all, great video! I want to comment on several things: 1. LOL on Plushenko because after he went all mighty with quads and technical difficulties, he forgot to check his own tech score sheet because he only had 0.1 BV ahead of Lysacek. Well I don't like Lysacek either and never understood his skating so I don't have any particular preference on who should have been ahead. 2. While I think ice dance is the discipline where the podium usually is separated only by decimal (due to how similar the starting BV between skaters) World 2014 was indeed very close. Imagine if that happened in other disciplines, that would be bonkers. 3. Great example on Yuna, Mao, and Miki Ando. It must have been a roller coaster of emotion between those 3 skaters. Having skated your best, getting WR, but then still not winning the competition. 4. Hanyu winning over Machida was also very surprising. I forgot how close it was until I watched your video.
Right??!!! Yeah with all the hoo-ha from Plushenko after losing it, we went to check his own tech score sheet and he only had 0.1 BV ahead of Lysacek... Like seriously!! I remembered someone questioned him those days and he was like, oh his SP was under-scored, he should have won SP with over 5 points difference from Lysacek etc etc. So much drama.. Yeah in general I don't like Lysacek either and that's probably the worst era of men's skating (no one cared about men's events those days though :P Most fans were zooming into the drama of Yuna vs Mao in OG 2010) Hanyu is the one who drew all of us into men's figure skating it seems. 😀😀😀

Oh my god!!!! That fun fact about Yuri on ice is shocking to me. I've never watch Yuri on ice, but heard about it, read (wiki) about it, read Djs of it, and I always thought the inspiration for it was Yuzuru Hanyu - the Olympic champion (me being an ignorant bitch, LOL - I wasn't into skating). Thank you for that clarification. It's a wonderful documentary, you guys managed to put in the best stories with inciting storytelling (using commentary at that). I love the ending part with athletes hugging each other. It's so sweet. Like after all the fierce competitions, they come back to each other. It's a brilliant idea to put an end for this documentary with beautiful sportmanship. P.S: and I love Hanyu face when he knew he got 1-st place in World 2014, so cute, so precious.
Sometimes athletes get gold medals, but they don't beat those who won silver. The former look like diligent students against the background of the latter - real talented masters !!! This is how Lysacek and Plushenko looked, for example. I think such gold medals will burn your hands! Evgenia Medvedeva - my soul and heart have been given to you, your unique talent, sincerity, beauty and artistry in performing programs! 💝🌺🌸🌷🌹🌺👸🏻
It must sting for Machida-knowing he’d certainly have been world champion if not for Hanyu’s Olympic-Gold-Medalist scoring bump… but that’s skating for you. (Ha, and in fairness, it’s really that ice dance worlds at 2014 that ought to be front and center here… it was easily the closest *and* most controversial outcome we’ve ever had-and involving *three* teams, not just two skaters).
Mao at 2007 worlds gives me goosebumps every time. The technicality, the flexibility, the musicality, and more. I love Miki Ando but cmonn Mao deserved to be world champion in 2007. :(
It's definitely one of the most corrupted wins in figure skating history.. Not controversial though, every figure skating fans know what really happened :P

Adelina two foots , wrong edge Lutz, level 2 junior step sequence, unclear edge step sequence, Step-out Loop, and more. That gold medal, for so many years, she should not use this fake gold medal to make money and gain fame, this is for the poor athletes of the year, not only Kim, they paid their sweat and life, but they got ISU 's evil. Her technique was flawed, and Adelina's grades had too many issues back then. 2014 referee had serious problems. Adelina shouldn't keep posting fake articles like this. She is a liar. Many people want to cover up the truth, including some coaches in Russia who know the rules. They act like fools.
Lysacek won by backloading most of his jump elements for the 10% bonus. (Lysacek did 8 jumps in the bonus; Plushenko did just 4.) Plushenko also did just 11 of 12 planned jumps: he didn't finish off a planned three-jump combination at the start of the free skate and failed to add that missing jump somewhere in the rest of his program.

Hmm.. It's hard to count all the competitions with uneven distribution of the skaters' levels and qualities. If we only count the major competitions, where skaters with the same levels were competing, which is GPF, Worlds, Olympics -- then it would be Nathan in Worlds 2018, 47.63 ahead of Shoma..
Do the Euros count too? There were some bogarhins there too, I believe.

Yuzuru Hanyu is best of the best not only in figure skating but also like a personality!!
Love both Alina and Zhenya, but Zhenya on ice just hits different, pure magic
For me Alina has magic, she has something that not even Evgenia has
Yup Zhenya's so mesmeric and hypnotic on the ice and Zagitova's inflated PCS through that season were just unjustifiable.
@@iamayanakuzunoha430 hahaha the most overscored is Zhenya, even when Alina was a junior Evgenia was overscored asf
@emi283 Agreed, Zhenya was ALWAYS overscored since the beginning.
Thank you for this vid after my exams ❤️❤️❤️
Hope you did well in the exams! And now let's celebrate with more figure skating videos 💪💪😁💗😁🙌🙈

Wow so glad to hear!!! 💓💓💓💓💓 Share it if you can. And More to come. Stay tuned 😀😀😀
Haha Zagitova deserves her win tho.
very angry fans of Zagitova! 👎🏻😡
Ne wr day a skater does not deserve a medal. That's so petty. They all do their best and are sometimes unlucky.
If they did'nt allow backlogging jumps for bonus points, Medvedeva would have won.

Ahh can't wait
Join us for the premiere on Friday. We will also release a preview of the video before that. Remember to subscribe and stay tuned :)
So, no one's gonna talk about Plushenko? He was such a character. Especially @2:00🤣🤣
Lysacek won by backloading most of his jump elements for the 10% bonus. (Lysacek did 8 jumps in the bonus; Plushenko did just 4.)
Plushenko also did just 11 of 12 planned jumps: he didn't finish off a planned three-jump combination at the start of the free skate and failed to add that missing jump somewhere in the rest of his program.
Kim Yuna is a two time Olympic GOLD medalist. The end.

Am I missing something? The video says that the largest margin of winning was Nathan Chen Worlds 2018 with 47.63 , but Yuzu’s was 59.82 at Skate Canada 2019. Or do we only count certain competitions?
Oh we only count the competitions with leveled playing field instead of the seeded /qualifying competition. Meaning we only count Olympics, worlds, GPF. Skate Canada is a qualifying competition for GPF, it’s seeded and hence the field of competition is uneven. Hope that clarifies
@@FigureSkatingFan yes it does, thank you

And what about Winter Olympics 2018 in pair skating Savchenko/Massot : Wenjing/Han? Difference in total score was 0,43 !!
Pre-2000s but an honorable mention could be Oksana vs. Nancy at the 1994 Olympics (0.1 point difference)! Plus added drama with Nancy’s reaction and comment afterwards

Honestly, I’m still mad that evgenia didn’t win gold. She had a very serious injury before the olympics that caused her to change her whole routine for one less demanding. And she’s such a great skater and she is so passionate on the ice...she really should have won (but I understand why she didn’t)
She didnt change her program. Even without her injury, she has never landed all her jumps in the second half of the free skate in 2015-2017.
Why didn’t she go to the Paralympics then
@@qiqisongs really? I had read that she had and that she injured herself again after the olympics that caused her not to be able to do any more biellmanns. And yes, ik about her jumps that’s why I said that I understood why she didn’t win but it doesn’t change the fact that she was my favorite for gold
@@butterfly6546 i honestly don’t know, maybe her injury was not enough for her to go to the paralympics or maybe it was too late already or maybe she just didn’t want to

For someone whose rise was historic, Alina Zagitova is now largely forgotten outside of Russia and FS circles, similar to every Russian champion (Adelina for example). I literally have never heard of her until I started following FS news after the recent doping scandal. It's so sad that we don't have any new icons like Yuna Kim.
Meanwhile zhenya will always be remembered
@KiffiStinkt Honestly I remember her mostly because of her poor technique, specially on the Lutz. She was cute but that's it.
How can you forget the 1994 Winter Olympic Games where Oksana Baiul of Ukraine won over Nancy Kerrigan of the United States in the Free Skate by 0.1 of a point from just one judge Jan Hoffmann from the former East Germany?
This is the explanation of the narrow victory under the 6.0 judging system. ua-cam.com/video/WA32W9t8YOU/v-deo.html

Where are the figure skaters competing? ⛸✨
