      @@a.b623 …slowly. Very, very slow. It’s incredibly frustrating, as I should be much further along, but when I go back to review older material, I’m forgetting what I’ve already covered. However, I’m in it for the long haul, so if it takes me longer, then it takes me longer. But it’s still frustrating. Are you a native Spanish speaker, or also trying to learn the language?

    I saw this vid for the first time a year ago or so, when I just started learning Spanish. I could barely understand what the native speaker was saying, I was only understanding single words, rarely whole sentences. Today I decided to come back and try again, mainly to check my progress after an intensive year of learning the language with the huge help of your channel and... Now I can proudly say that I understood almost everything! Thank you so much, I think I would have given up at some point without your help. Still can't write very well in Spanish, but at least now I can understand it without any problem!! :)

    • @inbrightlight
      @inbrightlight 2 роки тому +6

      @@isabellarobles9656 I was so motivated to learn the language I actually started taking Spanish course at university! And at some point, when I could understand it a little bit better, I bought some books in Spanish and watched yt vids every day and listened to some random podcasts in Spanish. Also, it really helps that Spanish has a lot of words similar to English or my native language so it's easier for me to learn new vocabulary. And that's all! Good luck and don't give up!!

    • @extraterestrial
      @extraterestrial 2 роки тому

      @@isabellarobles9656 stick with it. Use it every day. Find someone that you can text/ talk to in Spanish, watch UA-cam videos, use a translator and practice saying what it says. Eventually you'll start to realize that your translator is further and further back in your recently used apps because you don't need it as much.
      That's what I started almost 3 years ago, and I was actually surprised to understand most of the stuff in this video, although a few things I had to rewind and listen again.
      One thing that I'm struggling with though and barely getting used to is, don't try to translate everything into English. Get used to that uncomfortable feeling that you're actually speaking and understand a language, and it'll improve how quickly you respond. Obviously you'll have to translate some things just to have a reference, but try to remember it in Spanish instead of translating it to English and back to Spanish.
      Buena suerte, y recuerda que es un viaje, no una carrera.

      The gal on the left speaks faster. Both are quite helpful - the gal on the right, for intermediate comprehension, and the one on the left, for advanced comprehension. Also, the more you listen to fast Spanish and get used to it, the easier it will be to understand medium-speed.

Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. I learned Spanish a long time ago and I can read, write, and speak pretty well, but I have an INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TIME understanding others because I never bother to actually hear others speak. I also had a very hard battle with embarrassment because when I knew much less, people overestimated what I could do and when I didn’t live up to the hype, I had to deal with their disappointment

    Omg I’m glad I found this cause I can read Spanish but once people start talking it sounds like made up words so I hope this helps me, also can anyone help me out with good beginner Spanish shows that’ll also help particularly Puerto Rican ones because I’m trying to get ahold of their slang and accent.

    • @HowtoSpanishOfficial
      @HowtoSpanishOfficial  4 роки тому +2

      Hola Ariel, qué bueno que podemos ayudarte. We think listening to a clear, natural paced but not too fast Spanish (like the one we use) can help your listening comprehension a lot! And then you will be more comfortable dealing with faster / harder accents :) I don´t really know about Puerto Rican Spanish shows, but if you type Puerto Rican Spanish in UA-cam there are a lot of fun videos explaining the accent and slang.

      @@ariela_ Do shadowing. Listen to an audio book or a video or something with a transcription, even a song and repeat after them. Singing also works wonders. It is a process tough, so it takes time! And also, if you find someone you can talk to in Spanish, practice makes perfect.

    • @jozuemikalauskas
      @jozuemikalauskas 4 роки тому

      if you still need help, watch el ganador and read the transcript and shadow like these guys said, the r to l rumor is kinda false (depends on area) but borinqueños tend to have a swing to the way they say things and cut a lot of words like instead of todo, nada, para it would be to’, na’, pa’ they also cut the “s” out of pretty much everything, i only know these things because PR spanish is the best imo and that’s how i found myself learning it 😂
