It looks lovely. Hoping to move here from Lowestoft. My kids are getting older and want to do things in London and also loving things on the pier, so for me it's cheaper, as I don't drive, on the train. We've been to Clacton and we really loved it
We moved from London to Clacton last year. Absolutely love it. Beautiful clean sandy beaches. Come and visit. All you need for a perfect beach holiday.❤
Well i do not know what WHICH is on! We have visited Clacton a dozen times and we love it! it’s a cracking holiday resort 😊 Thx for this report it really does help? Cheers buddy three cheers for Clackers! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Had some great holidays in Clacton back in the 70’s , was just a young lad then . Hated the laughing clown in the glass case , was just back from the pier entrance . Nice video mate .
I remember the clown in the glass case as a child, I was absolutely terrified of it. I was born in Clacton during the great freeze of 1963 & it was a clean, safe, upper class place to live then, no druggies or drunks in those days.
@@sallybutton6237 Sorry to bring back memories of the clown , there was really something special about our summer holidays ( one week at the coast ) back in the day . Clackton, Jawick , and Great Yarmouth all you used to be clean and safe and a quid or two would keep us amused all day , then back to school aaargh
We holidayed in Jaywick Sands 1950 s & walked into Clacton along the front! I'm pretty sure there was a proper big dipper upon the pier with a long section that ran parallel with the edge of the pier ! I mentioned to Dad that it looked a bit shaky as was built out of scaffold poles ,but he said that troops of soldiers checked it over on a regular basis whilst out on exercises! Great holidays back then ,loved Jaywick Sands & Clacton! Thank you!
I always wonder what exactly people have against Clacton. It’s not big and flashy like some places but the pier and pavilion have had a lot of investment in recent years. Good soft play for younger children, rides for the older ones. The beach is nice and there are nice gardens to walk through if that’s more your pace. You can also walk or cycle all the way along the seafront to Frinton and Walton or go the other way towards Jaywick and St Osyth beach. It’s well served by various supermarkets, there is a cinema, two theatres and good rail links to London. I can’t help thinking it’s because the local residents on average are not affluent so there’s an element of snobbishness involved on why people put it down.
Clacton a great place grandchildren love it here they can't wait to visit as we retired here don't regret one bit if its so bad why do so many people retire here.
The readers of which magazine like places more posh, maybe St.Ives,Lyme Regis etc.but you won't get Barbados and florida in UK. Seaside's have several different enjoyments and the basic commercial resorts of Skegness,Clacton,Blackpool etc are one big aspect of the seaside experience .Some do not like them dont go. I love it.
Also nearby, quite different but a nice seaside town is Frinton on Sea, no amusements or pier, but large sandy beaches, painted beach huts, a large greensward and main shopping avenue with cafes/tea shops/ice creams,
Nice promo Neil! I actually have a visit planned for this week! Judging by the weather, it looked like the same day I was going to do some videoing here in Walton, but decided too much wind! That's where piers like that score highly in bad weather - plenty of indoor entertainment! 👍
I was born during the great freeze of 1963 in a nursing home near the station. When I was a child people would dress in their best clothes just to do the weekly shop, it was quite an upper class place to live in those days. I left Clacton when I got married in the early 1980’s & haven’t been back since apart from an odd visit to relatives over the years. It is the drug takers & night clubs that have ruined what was once a wonderful place to live.
Thank you Spencerbagge, I was really interested with the place, there was a few down and outs but you get that everywhere and it’s certainly not the worst seaside resort in the uk. I was born in Clacton at Vista road maternity hospital (closed now) and did a few seasons as a ride boy on the pier. The two Paddle Steamers your talking about are the Waverley and Balmoral I have assisted in mooring up from time to time whitest the public disembarked. Very popular boats.
Both absolutely beautiful boats, Waverley had two steam funnels and Balmoral had one. Anyone who had the pleasure of sailing them were very fortunate in my opinion. Radio Caroline was also moored up of the Clacton coast at the time so I was able to take a boat over for the resupply and take a tour. I would love to see the pier used for more boats and tours however the smaller speed boat jetty on the side of the pier had been removed now, shame really as someone could have run day time pleasure taxis to and from Southend/Clacton!
