As a classically trained theorist, understanding progressively less of this video as time goes on was very humbling.
my level of understanding of theory didn't go past two
level 7 made me feel like i was drifting through space trying to reach that twinkling little star
Wow you’re so right
@@razaakeniola I agreed

🧑🦰😋😜🤪😭😇🥳😭😆😭
You’re really good at keeping the melody really prominent and recognizable even though the harmonies are really complicated. That’s impressive
0:00 your first time hearing the nursery rhyme
0:27 you start singing along
0:55 you spice it up on the piano
1:22 johnny johnny stopped eating sugar and started eating salt, and got used to it
1:50 you start thinking deeper about the star, how it feels about being in space, what its personality could be, the type of star it is.
2:22 you become an astronaut as the star keeps twinkling, how you wonder what it is, how far away it is, like a diamond in the sky, but everyone wonders why.
2:54 you realize what events led up to this as you float in space, slowly getting closer to the star. the first thing that you remember is "twinkle twinkle little star" and your whole life, you never gave up. you sample a bit of the star to bring home, and when you get there, your baby is listening to that very nursery rhyme. you help him become what you have become, and once your life is fulfilled, you go back to space to see the star again, and stay there, occasionally meeting your son. now all that's left is you, the star, and your space rocket. good job.
This should be a plot for a movie
This comment has big Cuil Theory energy.
(If you don't know what that is, look for a video on UA-cam with a hamburger about cuil Theory and ready yourself for a 5 minute ride into the best sort of weirdness
this is major tom to ground control, i've left forevermore
This is all so ridiculous …….. but yet so touching .
Dad?!
Your voicing control and finger control and smooth transitions are things im simping on

@@TheRedstonedeluxe, huh? The video is 3:36?
@@dancehalllyrics1303 they just meant people should be able to make it through a 3 minute video without somebody providing time stamps. Personally, I'm happy to have the timestamps! Thank you.
@@joshuahoman1184
I just think it’s easier to navigate around having the timestamps provided. And if people are not interested in using them, well, they can just skip them. It’s just a little extra service :)
Thank you
I see a new jimindorothy video, I click like immediately
Thank you!!!

Level 7 was by far my favorite
I really learned a lot from this - more than I could comfortably than from reading a textbook. Nothing like practical "piano theory" versus standard "music theory"
The last one was beyond insane. I can't stop replaying it - It's so beautiful.
That ii7b5/iii V/iii is always so delightful
Never once sacrificed the melody. This is class. This is class. Diminished, Sub dominant and Fourths. You've got the chords lool. Class.
You are an inspiration to me ! I love how you start simple and gradually increase the complexity to show how one can improvise progressively . Keep up the fantastic work!
These are the types of videos I need to understand music. All I want is a comparison but no one ever does a comparison. Just thanks, thanks so much.
check out adam neely, he did a similar video a year or two ago and it even has his voiceover analysis of each level of jazz :)
@@xiaomoli5 yes, im so totally agree. his analysis over jazz is even more advance and complicated.
level 7 is pure gold
7 was beautiful
Every time chord changes:
Me: i feel that
The entire video, with its progression of styles, is fascinating and insightful, as always. But those quartal voicings at level 6... whoah... they immediately take you into another dimension! Wonderful, thank you!
Wow. Just wow.
JiminDorothy, the Mozart of jazz. Of course.
But I think for me it's Jacob Collier. Still, I love JiminDorothy
@@rholanddelamerced same
Love the barry harris affect on level 4
Level 7 is just *fascinating* 😯
Really nice. I like the atonality displayed in level 7, reminiscent of Debussy.
Well, actually it's still tonal
Scriabin
Yeah, real atonals are like of Schoenberg and his pupils or many others.
Anyhow this piece suggests the final level or beyond would be more atonal-like like you're really lost in the vast space
@@helpmaboabb no
You are absolutely brilliant. I love your arrangements
I've only just started learning 5 months ago and this video just confirms how shit I am. Well done
issa goal
i think comparing your progress to someone who probably has been playing the piano since they were a child is unfair. go easy with yourself bud. good luck!
Don’t worry, the jump from what this shows as level one to level three is way bigger than it looks
This is so amazing, I'm so happy your channel exists
Thank you for making a video on this while maintaining a beautiful sound, instead of some other versions that makes it sound more and more dissonant
Finaly I found a channel sharing beautiful and understandable jazz approach...Merci beaucoup !!
Whoa, fantastic video. Will definitely come back to this many times 👍
The quartal version is sooooo great. So simple yet so powerful.
You are a Great Teacher for All levels of pianist! Bravo!

Thank you sooooooooo much for posting these videos.. you are a music theory master!!!!wowwwwww
Lvl 6 and 7 sound like something Joe Hisaishi would compose for a a Ghibli movie
It’s the magic of the 4ths my dude, he loves to use them
I think some of the harmonic language in 6 is too complicated for the intended audience of a Ghibli film, but I definately get what you're saying
I know im randomly asking but does anyone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account?
I somehow lost my login password. I would love any tips you can offer me!
@@karsynmathew5401 yeah, absolutely unrelated. I'm sorry to say I have no idea of how to do this
@Karsyn Mathew instablaster =)
All the ideas I had about music in my early days but never reached. This is the second video I’ve seen that did this. #discipline
I’m still in awe. Wow 😳 I’ll get there one day I guess.
I love your videos so much !! they inspire me to keep discovering new concepts and ideas and better myself as a jazz pianist, I'd love if you made a video about your method for internalizing voicings and how you train spreading a voicing between the two hands! Because I just love the way you spread your chords!
your harmonies are so lush and beautiful!! Keep it up love your videos!
A great way to start my birthday. Watching Jimindorothy's video.
Belated Happy Birthday 🎂
3.36 minutes that made my heart skips a beat.. love it so much
omg the diminished voicings
Level 7: Twinkle twinkle my little mental health struggles
Awesomeness!
MORE OF THESE PLEASE
Félicitations De mieux en mieux! J'adore ce que vous faites!! Talent et pédagogie!!
3,4,5 are my favorite
Amazing voicings. The touch
She took her time to prepare this instructive video for us and again with score !! Thank you very much. She deserves a big price. Not real $!
Level 7 got me sooooo hard. Didn't expect this AT-ALL. I admire you so Fucking much!
As always... beautiful playing 😭💙
Mind blown at level 4 oh my goodness
Thank you for showing us very nice examples.
These are not just examples but beautiful products❣️
You are very talented ❣️
Just beautiful! What a great channel. Thank you!
Level 7 is my fav.... so dreamy and a little mysterious
Level 7 seems the one easiest to improvise since there are no guidelines. But it is the hardest since there are tons of ways it can go wrong and sound absolutely disonant with no real resolve.
@@tom.c2529 you sound like a true jazz musician but your channel is full of minecraft?
@@lanchanoinguyen2914 you can play Minecraft whilst also being able to play the piano
@@lanchanoinguyen2914He wants to jam with C418
Well, that was delightful 😊
Level 7 reminded me a lot of Ravel/Debussy. I've played classical piano for years, and played in jazz band in high school and college, but am really interested in learning more about theory.
I'm in love with level 4.. Time to go learn and practice it lmao. KEEP IT UP ♡
You are wonderfull!! Je t’aime! I swear that I will study hard the piano and be a great musician as you are!
Thanks a lot!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for the video!

absolutely gorgeous
I've been playing jazz whole thi time🤯🤯🤯
That was amazing!
Your playing transfixes me!
Excellent performance
You're a Master!
Way to take a song I hate and turn it into something I can listen to! I liked the diminished and 4th voicing, as I love the locrian tone and also the 4th intervals found the double harmonic major scales (sounds more dissonant than traditional ionian). 7th level was like...out of this world! Out in space with the twinkling little star. Ironically, that little star is probably massive, just like my appreciation of this video!
Wow this is really advanced stuff. You're amazing!
AMAZING
resolving to b3 from major I gives a minor i vibe that is crazy. I love modal mixture!!!
ur the goddess of chords 🤩
ver very good.........................................
Id sell my soul jus to play anywhere nearly as good as you 😩💙
Really nice, well played... very talented
Amazing as always
Thanks for video its very helpful video
4th voicing sounds good for me
In my current piano skills, triads would be like level 6, not level 1...
Level 7 still beeing Cmajor key but with altered degrees! Nice job!
Are you kidding me! I’m just at level 2🤦🏾♂️😀. You are phenomenal
respect the melody
When you say "no key", do you refer to being constantly modulating?
Amazing video btw!!!
Yes, constant unprepared floaty modulations.
ab,db,fb,cb,f#,d,a,e,d, yes and the key of K-flat
@@jjsdumbshit2792 what about T sharp?
@@JoseSantos-hb4nx nah man, i prefer modulating to the key of O minor.
@@giocosovelasco Bro, what about Z half sharp?
Wow! Thought I was gonna hate this vid bc I'd have that kid song stuck in my head all day. But... wow.
Beautiful. I'm from Brazil
Level 2 is already too expert!
Bravo!
Wow... Level 7 out of this world. Hahahaha. Nice.
BRAVO
