Great review, and thanks for the honest opinions on both reels. I agree with you on those Stella FI's - i have a couple of them and one of them is very geary after 2 seasons of freshwater use. I am thinking about selling it and picking up the exsense in it's place, lol. I splurged about a month ago and ordered a 2018 exist from japan (3000S-CXH model) and that thing is definitely a step above the stella's. I really like my shimanos for the most part, but man this daiwa takes it up a couple notches. I think in the high end $700-800 range the new exist is the winner.
I would of brought a exist if it had a aluminum monocoque body. Hate magnesium, even though i wash my reels, it doesnt leave peice of mind when you have a $800 magnesium reel prone to corrosion more than aluminum. Even though its only meant to be for fresh water, sometimes you want to take it out for fun.
just saying how their material choice of magnesium monocoque for the Exist compared to aluminium monocoque (Saltiga Bayjigger), I mean everyone knows magnesium in mixed with saltwater is a no no
@@TackleAdvisors They become "geary" when you reel down the bail arm. And if you don't service the reel, the grease wears off and it becomes geary even quicker. Everytime you reel down the bail arm, it's one tooth on the piniongear that has to handle all the extra torqe. So tihs one tooth is getting alot more wear than the rest of the gear. Since it's really tight tolerances, you can feel this worn tooth quite well.
@@hmmmja684 I manually close the bail on all my spinning reels for 30 years...As a matter of fact I think i'm one of the only people to bring this up. Definitely the only person on youtube. ua-cam.com/video/QFl3Mm48k6s/v-deo.html and it's exactly as you say
I just got the 2021 Exsence and man, is it smooth. It's lighter and has lower start up inertia when compared to the old model and the taller spool also makes it cast (slightly) further. You were right about the Exsence being a more "sensitive" reel than the Stella. Hoping to to see your review on it soon! :D
Been using my Exsence 4000 for jewfishing (molloway) and kingfishing on the east coast of Australia for the past year and this reel hasnt missed a beat, really impressed with how it performs in offshore and inshore applications. Still as smooth as the day it was bought with minimal servicing. Would buy it again every time.
Fishing reels are like women's handbags. You can get one for 30 bucks that will do all you need it to.... But the $1000 ones look and feel so much better. Buy what makes you feel good.
Coming back to this vid years later confirms my sanity when you mentioned you fish better with slower gear ratio. Based on everything you said, I experienced the samething when Im out there fishing. When the fish starts hitting your line, you will focus on catching the fish and will lose your attention on your retrieve that I myself sometimes get annoyed, that I end up losing the fish because of how fast the bait moved. This is why nowadays I just order reels straight from Japan because here in the US market, most of the high end Daiwa and Shimano Reels I like, they only offer high gear ratio.
hi, I just got my expense 3000M yesterday, topic you open about expensive tackle, my answer is I am getting most expensive always because I am not rich and I don't have time to send items to repair or wit for parts. and buy and buy same junk over and over. I don't want to name names, but in 11 month I sent a bait caster and spinning reel 5 times in total for repair spinning was $300 and bait caster was $400. so that was my lesson learned and now I buy high end to enjoy my life actually, not some garbage that you need to wait and wait always to get repaired ship back to you and loose days on water. thank you for great videos, I am new subscriber and probably going to join as well. cheers
Eeach n every video of urs is a master piece of great tutorial ever . It's not just the tearing down process of any reel that's only counts but what behind those companies throwing at us in their reels n having someone like u talking so informative in simple english giving us the needed confidence of our future purchase . Many thnx from arab gulf .
XGear ratio is quite useful when all of the lure presentation is done with the tip of your rod, it helps keep the line with no slack so you don’t miss on any bite. Also, I’ve changed most of my fishing techniques way back and try to do 99% of the lure presentation with rod, not reel, it helps extend a reel life by far.
Nothing compares to the feel of a minty fresh stella (haven't touched a new exist yet..but the certate was close) Lots of guys try to say their stradics are close.....but put a few hundred fish on em and every stradic i've seen gets sloppy....Tons of guys i fish with have em...and they all have tons of handle slop after they have been put through their paces....
You are probably right on the slop but true on most other brands as well. We usually get what we pay for. I have the 3000 US EXSENCE and the new EXIST. The EXIST hands down is simply amazing in looks and performance - spooky smooth and no screws showing with that new body! - lighter than the FJ. The Rotor on the EXIST and the TATULA LT 3000 are even lighter than the EXSENCE and require even less handle start up pressure. But the EXSENCE rotor has better balance because the bail mechanism is located on the opposite side. And almost forgot; I have a CI4 STRADIC 2000 JDM size not available in US. Great review!!
its my first stella, so I will report on it after a while, but by all counts they are good for the long haul. I agree the stradic feels close and represents a lot of value considering you can buy eight of them......... the only thing it isn't the same....
also id be really interested what your thoughts are on the shimano Sedona. I reckon they are very good value but I'm curious what your thoughts are of them.
Awesome comparison. I'm looking to purchase a new for 23 Exsense XR which is a great reel from what I read. I had a Daiwa Airity too and like that as well but decided to sell it. Do you have any opinions on the XR version of this reel vs the newer Stella?
Thank you for an awesome reviews and advices on reels. Prior your channel, I have learn a lot about high end Japanese reels by watching Profisher videos for years. IMO I think the most Robust and Durable reel is the line Daiwa Certate reels made in Japan. Those are my go to reels, I own 2006, 2010, 2013, and 2016. They never let me down. I use them fishing for salmon and steelheads in the Northwest. For price, value and durability. I don’t think anything can touch the Daiwa Certate reels. And Yes, I love them low gear ratios and they only sale in Japan.
I 100 percent agree with you. The new certate is on par with the Stella IMHO. Profisher is the man. I think he's the only one that does anything similar. I didn't realize that he did it prior to me. Shocked Noone else has. I tried convincing Alan hawk to give it a whirl bit to no avail
Thanks man!! Hows it working for ya.....oh....and a little birdie told me...4k on the way...not sure if it's 15ounces like the other 4k's but that is gonna be sweet if it is!!
When you mentioned "taller spools giving slightly longer casting distance" for spinning reels, which I'm not doubting, but I can tell you right now that THE LARGER THE DIAMETER OF THE SPOOL, THE LESS FRICTION ON THE LINE DURING CASTING, because the same distance of line coming off the spool is coming off in LESS COILS-PER DISTANCE on a larger diameter spool vs a smaller diameter spool. Another way to look at it, is the same amount of line coils coming off of a larger diameter spool means MORE LINE IS COMING OFF vs a smaller diameter spool with the same amount of coils or "rotations" of line leaving the spool. Also, the line doesn't have to come off in "tighter coils" on a larger diameter spool, because it is coming off in LOOSER COILS which also means LESS FRICTION during the cast. Any way ya look at it, a larger diameter spool SHOULD outperform a smaller diameter spool for sheer casting distance, providing of course, that both spools are filled properly with line & have the same type of outer lip shape and material it's made from. The line-stripper guide on the rod ( the first line guide closest to the reel ) should be a tad bigger to accommodate the larger spool........and even then, those newer line guides with "the smaller line guide attached acting like a funnel" on the stripper guide of the "Airwave" ( I think that's what they're called ) spinning rod line-guide system by American Tackle Co. and developed by the late Doug Hannon........really DO increase casting distance, because that "attached funnel guide" to the stripper guide drastically reduces "line slap" against the rod during the cast. The slow motion video footage proves it. And so did test casting for distance. After the line passes through that special line stripper guide with "the funneling effect", that line then shoots across the rest of the rod straight as an arrow........again with LESS FRICTION.
10000% Great point! i've mentioned that before you also get fewer coils that add turbulance and less memory......but when line switches direction coming off the spool it adds turbulance......which adds resistance...which is why most distance spinners use a slow oscillation and tall spool that is of larger diameters and they supply spacers to take up arbor space if using light lines.
I absolutely love my 17' Exsence C3000MHG. So much I purchased a second. Like them better than my Stella's. It's only 7 oz., has a Strong/responsive drag, the blacked out look is cool and balances great with all my Bass rods. I use it for all my soft plastic applications to inshore. Bulletproof! Just put some 10-15LB braid on it and you're ready to go.
I own this Exsence (a 3000) it is nearly the same as my 3000 JDM Vanquish. Spools are interchangeable -Vanquish spool is deeper (more line capacity). Same body and bearing count. Yet the Vanquish is nearly half once lighter! Body, spool and handle -all lighter!) Both are equal in quality and feel. The other Exsence which is a CI4 version (less bearings than the Japan version and similar to the Stradic. The CI4 version is made in Malaysia. The CI4 version is more like a very very dark gray color compared to the black on the Japan model. The Vanquish is still lighter than the CI4 version also. The CI4 version is less money too. The Vanquish is my pick if you are OK with gold, black and silver rather than all black.
Love the technical breakdown as always. If you were going to invest in a baitcaster for lighter baits, not necessarily a bfs spool, what would you put on your short list? Thanks in advance!
Hey Nate...glad you like em......out of what's out now....steez sv tws :) can throw very low.....almost bfs worthy (not quite but It loves 1/8 and does 1/16. And everything else above it. The MGL reels are nice too. Pretty much any magforce z or sv spooled reel will be fine at or above 1/8....same with the svs infinity reels. There is are 2 new reels coming in the fall from 2 companies that would be a perfect fit in the 200$ range...Can't leak any info on it yet...but They're sweet cool
I thought the Stradic ci4 was really good LOL, but realized there are Shimano reels twice, three times more expensive which is crazy. I had a question, I’m into jdm reels and for example. If I wanted to order a Shimano Stradic ci4 from a jdm website, would it be better than the Stradic in the US? Also as well as other reels.
Hey Rushin, The only reason i'd buy from japan would be because they offer different ratios or something not available stateside. Not so much anymore for price (jpy vs usd) You'd probably be better off with buying local....especially with how things in the tackle industry are with out of the box defects and such. Also shimano is finally bringing over some more JDM reels come icast....wooo hooooo
Tackle Advisors That’s awesome! I mean the only exception I see is to get like jdm reels that aren’t made in here. For example scorpion DC, I’ve been really interested in that. but anyway I appreciate you letting me know about the info. I’m assuming the quality between the reels aren’t any different?
FYI.....hold off.....if you dig the scorpion dc....something wicked this way comes ;) I have a few metanium dc's and a calcutta dc......never threw the new scorp....but honestly...I'd go Bantam 100 over the met dc....I sold off a met to go bantam...and enjoy it more. Just upgraded a met dc to brass gears...and now it's on par with the bantam..but i like the bantams size and precision and actually like the casting of it over the dc. FWIW
Tackle Advisors I wish I could get a bantam or met but my budget isn’t that great since I go to college and do part time. But I’ll definitely keep a look out for those reels. The scorp dc is around 260 USD which isn’t bad. Hopefully it’s worth it.
RushinToFishin the scorpion dc is a amazing reel, casting it is so easy I don’t even know how to describe it, after using the scorpion for a week it made my old curado feel awkward to even use
Thank you for your videos. Extremely helpful. I have seen several comments and wanted to offer another observation about the Exsence and Certate. I have the 2500 Certate (new version) and the C3000M Exsence from Japan. Both of these reels are just a dream to fish and it is a difficult task to try to say which one is my favorite. I happen to like the “Batman “ look on the Shimano, but the simple elegant look of the Daiwa is just as satisfying. Barring any collapse in worldwide reel manufacturing or supply chain crashes, I am going to get a couple more. I would be interested in your opinion or comparison of the two reels. BTW, I am using these almost exclusively for bass fishing (not that it makes a difference). Thanks again for your videos!!!
I can’t believe you wore out the gears on that Stella in 2 years. I wonder if the gears in the essence will be more durable because it doesn’t have the gold coating?
Coatings are great!! Chemically hardened gears great too! I did notice when new there was some tightness that took a long time to get past....but it's in the gears...I lubed it and it quieted and smoothed out a bit...but it was temporary and it's back....
How do people open up these sealed reels like the stella fj an fk vanquish an exsense. Was looking at getting a stella fj or jdm vanquish an work on it myself but can never find information to open them up. Do you have a video on this or a link to a tool?
sry for asking, but wondering if you could recommend a casting reel for light/medium lures? am new to multireels. my rod has a casting weight of 8-32gram(10" Fenwick Ironfeather 3), i usually go for 13-24gram lures... I will primarily be fishing for seatrout.
Hi Martin. I've been asked a bunch of times for recommendations for baitcasters for the salt.....unfortunately in the NE i don't have a use for small reels since I only target striped bass and bluefish , tuna, shark, swordfish and such offshore. I tried to use the concept z in the salt and after 2 nights of striped bass......I'd definetely not recomend that lol. And that's supposed to be a salty safe reel. If you are only going to be running into appropriately sized fish. I'd say as long as you maintain your gear properly. Anything that's saltwater specific from daiwa or rated safe for salt from shimano would be great. Say the daiwa coastal or Curado. About a year ago Jamesbay ua-cam.com/channels/GJi21DmN55XPuK7LncsLzg.html did a coastal review and i've heard from others it's held up in the salt down south...but that's all I got! lol let me know what you decide. Sorrry i couldn't be more of a help
Do you experience any problem with the line roller on the stella fi 4000? I fish saltwater and the rubber seal of the line roller bearing gets pretty worn out, making the bearing turn very noisy
No I have not. That should be a phone call to shimano and they should send a replacement right out...I've hard of a few guys with that issue and they were sent replacements and it's a simple swap
I really love watching your stuff a lot, you're funny, smart witted, and down right know your stuff. The only problem is the average Joe, like myself, will never own these reels. I'm not saying do the gimmicky 20-50$ stuff. I'm just saying you might pull in more people if you did reviews on reels we all use.
Thanks Jacob......I like the fancy toys.....but this video was a result of a subscriber contribution. A gent named Phillip send me his sustain and exsence. And I already had a pair of stellas. I get that 100000% and have a ton of content coming with more reasonably priced 250< gear.
Tackle Advisors thanks for understanding my point. I also appreciate how you always answer back anytime I have something to say or ask. And believe me I have nice stuff, I own a tatula sv, but that's my porche haha.
No prob man....I get bogged down so I may miss some....acutally..the past month i received 1700 emails and 1000 comments/ questions via youtube instagram facebook and forum pm's....I can't even answer many....actually burned myself out a bit lol.... But yeah man....the fancy stuff is just that.......fancy........stuff....the only fancy baitcaster that i feel is worth it is the steez because it can do everything and do it well and it's a tank.....For spinners....anything over a twinpower or certate is just not needed.......and even still that's pushin it....same with your tat.....anything over that is not gaining you much
Thanks for the comparison on these two. Im a steelheader, these are the holy grail of reels in my opinion. I do believe reels made in Japan are better made than Indonesia or China or where ever. Would you buy a Lexus made in China?
I spent much of my steelheading using braided mono and slinkies chuck and duckin....but I spent 500 hours chasing yardstick browns using these.....and yeah............nothin better.....Curious how the ultra lightweight exist cmpares....A subscriber from Austrailia just shipped me his to play with so I'll be able to get some quality time on it.
HEY do u know the differences between the Exsence vs the Exsence CI4+? looks like the ci4+ is cheaper than the regular Exsence? did they changed the material and lower the price?
You can view the inside of the Exist LT and Certate LT by searching on” Profisher” channel. I think Certate LT is a better value than they Exist. The differences between the two reels is that Exist LT has a lighter magnesium frame vs Certate Aluminum, plus two extra bearings underneath the spool. They both has Duralumin main gears and brass pinion.
Thanks Ed... You talking spinning or casting? And are you talking about the high pitch whirring sound of the spinner or the gritty feel of a dead micro module baitcaster gear set?
If it's anything like my stella fi the buzz isn't a grease issue.....my gears went on it. That and if you have been inside it..you must make sure the top ar clutch cap is perfectly centered...otherwise youll feel buzzing. Could also be the pawl for the oscillation or bearing.
Wow. Everything i’ve ever said. Every single reel i own is japan import. Not for the quality, but for the lower gear ratio that is not available in US. Lower drag being better than high drag. The sarcasm towards bass anglers. Everything.
I fished the same stella in the 3k size for tarpon giant snook and reds for 2 years. I didn’t service it for those 2 years and after all that abuse that it wasnt meant for Shimano guy told me all I needed was a new handle. I’d say if you like to fish light tackle for giant fish the stella will probably hold up way better
Thanks!!! No i haven't...I have saltigas and the 08 stella.....Both great!! Stella has better line lay and feels a bit better...saltiga has a better gear......Stella has platium service....saltiga really should be sent out but never experienced their service.....I'll be sending my saltiga out in a few weeks....gonna pay very close attention. I like the vs reels...I've had vs and zb....had a bad experience with a pair of early gen 2's but undrestand they have become much better (mine was made in china....((i kinda exposed that nerve years ago)) no clue about the new torque....not sure if i'm gonna go down that rabbit hole any time soon to be honest.
Haaaaaaa......If i come across a spare gaggle of benjamins I surely will......But....Not until the new SW comes out....I got broad sided with the FJ announcement. Not wanting the same thing to happen...tearing apart obsolete stellas for a review sucks lol Saltigas arent' a walk in the park either
Help! Should I go with a jdm exsence 5.8 gr for 205$ or a jdm stradic 5.3 fl for 161$? Saltwater soft plastic fishing. Pulling my hair out trying to choose!! Thanks for sharing all your knowledge and opinions....
The Ci4 is made in Malasia. Non ci4 is made in Japan. Ci4 Exsence is similar to Stradic ci4. Non Ci4 similar to Stella. I believe both have same spool and interchangable. Non ci4 is slightly better finish and blacker color and has black line roller.
Just came across your channel this weekend and I’ve already watched way too many! They are completely awesome! I was wondering if you have and future plans to take a look at the Penn Conflict II? I got the Conflict I a while back and really like it but I think I want to replace it with a conflict II and I’d be curious on your thoughts! If not, no worries! Thanks again for the great info!! 👍🏼
Outstanding presentation!! I just bought an fj4000 . Im thinking I shld hv went with the 5000 though for the handle and the spool diameter which comes on the 5000. Love that wide arbor on the bigger models.. Im thinking about keeping the 4000 and buying another reel for a salmon trip .. What do you hv to say about the Penn Torque ll, or the Van Staal VS series.. in smthing comparable to a 5000 series reel??
Have you had a chance to play with a Stella FJ and Exist LT? I have another Steez 7'6 coming. I'm trying to figure out if I should pair it again with Exsence or one of those.
I'm hearing the ones goin out are for pre orders..I know shops that can't even get em....but who knows. Very interesting about the supply issues.....Josh from J and H made a very interesting and true comment about quantum...one of the reasons I don't buy their products. (which i bet is why they are not meeting their orders) Never did a review. But I love the12 and have caught tuna on a 60 that penn gave me but pressured me to do a review on so scrapped it (that was years ago) Great reels for the coin and the smaller one casts great! Very 525 mag ish if that's what you are looking for!
Tackle Advisors that's why i bought 2. They cast pretty far. Planning to upgrade bearings in the future to ceramics. Also what are you thoughts on AMS TSI 321 lubricant for bearings as opposed to reel-x?
Cool!!! I use both sorta...I use corrosion x and 321. I love em both. Both work great. 321 cut with denatured alcohol mixed with tungsten disulfide is how I lube all my baitcasters now adays. I chunk with a tranx 500 off the beach ( i only use one rod when chunking...j hooks and hold th rod) I've but some mileage on that reel and the ceramics I put in are still spinning very well no corrsion anywhere in the reel and i used tsi on all bearings. I've used tsi on off shore trolling reels and no issues either. I even use it on my bfs reels and it's great. After seeing how it works when being cut and how it works in the salt.i stoped paying attention to other oils that need replacement after 20 casts.....I used to use rocket fuel red and yellow. Rocket oil from boca hot sauce you name it. lol
I recently discovered your channel and really like the content. It's a little of topic but I recently tried to get parts for a daiwa I have and was unable to get parts like I can easily for my other reel makes. I had to take it to a repair shop and they had to send it to daiwa. Can you shed a little light on this for me by chance? The shop said it's like that with avet as well. Just curious because I like to service my reels if I can.
Hey Primate -- Daiwa doesn't sell their Magseal oil, making it hard for reel repair shops to service your reels. Magseal is ferrofluid, but it's hard to find a ferrofluid that matches the magnetic props of the magseal fluid.
Try contacting The Tackle Trap or looking at the website to see if they got what you want. Lots of people from Tackle Tour use them to upgrade and change their Daiwas. Edit: I don't think The Tackle Trap is able to get the ferrofluid for magseal stuff and the only reason Tackle Advisors messes with his is because he was given some iirc, so that might be a "send to Daiwa no matter what" issue.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll check that out. It's kind of made me not want to buy daiwa from here on honestly. That may not sound like a good enough reason to not buy a brand that I really otherwise like but I paid a local shop $65 and still ended up with the same problem so I just figured I'd start servicing them myself and save a few bucks.
How do you feel about the sephia ci4+, I been thinking about getting one just mainly for the fact of how sexy the eva double handle is. I wish they would just sell the Eva double handle by itself lol
Dude....that sephia bb was on my list for over a decade as it was the cheapest to have that double handle....I never pulled th etrigger though lol....The first thing i did when i got my stella was get a double....and i want to get one for the tatula and ballistic....but feel stupd paying 69$ for a crappy stock double handle.....I also love the low gear ratio of some of the SDH reels. If i sell my fi stella 4k...i'm getting the jdm fj with the double....I don't get how the baitcater market is huge....yet no spinner have the double...yet the 50$ crappy spirex had it back in the day
Tackle Advisors I been thinking real hard if I wanna get one, but I kinda worry about the reel durability since I know some of the jdm saltwater reel have inferior gearing
Personally i prefer the FJ1000. The Stella has a lower/slower gearing that i like, is smaller and a lot lighter. Black reels are cool but the FJ takes the cake with looks too, a timeless elegant finish.
what about reviewing RODs? I have seen many reel reviews, now I wanna see rod reviews.... Specially, after you posted the comment on John Skinner's slow pitch video... Do you think slow pitch works around Long Island Sound and NJ? Specially I purchased Major Craft Slow Jigging Rod......
I'll be doing some more rod reviews...I'm rebuilding my work area so I can turn the camera around and do some live streams...that will make things a bit easier. I think slow pitch depends on whats around...and here's why.....often you need to drop a jig down and crawl it back....reel too fast you get dogfish, jig it....and you get bluefish. It'll catch no doubt...but when other fish are in the area....I've found a slow crawl to be best....more often than not..I'd like to see skinner go further down the slow pitch rabbit hole
There is a newer exsense BB 2020 with 5+1, the Hagane gears and X protect plus a few other shimano features. The C3000MHG model is 6.1:1 and weighs 240 grams and can be had for $155 overseas Malaysian vintage. Do you know exactly what they put in to bring down the price ? It weighs about 45g more than the exsence CI4+. Thank you
The new Exsense C3000MHG(Japan) is Slightly over $400 at Digitaka as is the C3000M. The reel is superb. However the Stradic Fl(Malaysia) can be had for $150 and is the best reel made, all elements included bar none. Doc 1/5 Cav RVN69-70. We're all waiting for your return.
If you want super light the Tatula /ballistic are awesome and you can go with the 2500or 2000 size and come in crazy light (make sure they're smooth out of the box as I've seen some defects) . Stradic FL 1000 would be where I'd go if I wanted shimano... But prefer the otw of a 2500 spool over a 1k
Tackle Advisors The 2500 Ballistic at 6.3oz throws the balance point off. Has a Stradic ci4 on it which works at 5.6oz. Was thinking the exist 2000 at 5.5oz but the 4:9:1 gear ratio threw me off.
I saw that when i did the web review when it was announced.......I don't recall all the differnces but i remember the spool was shaped a tad differently......I guess in certain situations you could get more distance...I can't remember if it had a slower oscillation thant he FI....that could add distance a tad. too if it did
So, when you are fishing tournaments, 3 days in a row a strong but light magnesium frame doesn’t make a difference? And if you take a big bass out of weeds, with 5 lb of grass in addition to bass weight, a metal rotor as in Stella, which doesn’t flexes, and haul them into the boat, it doesn’t give you a longer bail(usually first item to fail) life? Don’t think so.
Not sure what point you're trying to make? Rotor flex when doing what you describe isn't an issue with a good reel. You're not winching up 5lbs of weight...Hell my Stella/ saltiga/ zeebaas reels would have trouble winching up 5lbs of weight :) The main isue with rotor flex is a slight inconsistency in drag...with the rotor arms hitting the spool being a major issue....I've not heard of that outside of tuna, amberjack or GT fishing. Bail mechanisms fail due to metal fatigue or debris ((ooor debris in the trip causing the trip ramp to wear down. Weight may or may not play a role depending on the rod and how you hold the rod and where. Alon with it's balance point and whether you need a tip up or can fish horizontal. I fish every day, tournaments or not.. :)
They really should just bring all the sizes over here or at least most of them. I love the C2500SXG and the C2500SHG in the Stella line up. I think they should also just have the vanquish over here with more models instead of the exsence. The exsence is a nice reel but limited in sizes.
There is a worm and a worm wheel combining to make a worm drive. There is no worm gear in that fishing reel. But it has what they call a worm. The Penn Z series has a worm drive. Module It is the ratio of the reference diameter of the gear divided by the number of teeth. From what I saw on an add Shimano took out the nice helical gears and replaced them with cheaper spur gears and gave them the fancy name of NEW Micro Module gears. This in turn making people think they improved the reel but in reality they made it cheaper with gear cost cuts.
The only high gear ratio spinner I use is my 1000 size Ultegra (the newer model) which I really really adore as a creek browntrout reel. Dunked it like five times already wading and nothing happened yet. Despite it looking a atiny bit beat up. Else, I'd really love to get my hands on some better reels with like 4.5:1 ratio, no need for 35 inch retrieve speed on a freshwater reel.
I fished a friends 1000 ultegra side by side with a tatula lt........I'll tell ya what....stepping up to the larger spool diameter was wonderful and it weighs less.....but yeah..the low gear is so nice....I swapped gear sets out of my xg metanium dc's to brass 6.3's....I don't understand this stupid trend for marketing fast reels to the masses.
Tackle Advisors ok wait - just so I don't misunderstand anything. Did you prefer the Ultegra over the Tatula or the other way around? Because I'm usually a friend of reels a little bigger than the Shimano 1k size. So like 2k Daiwa since 2500 Shimanos tend to be a bit big for a 6' rod rated up to 1/4oz
I dig the tatula.....things soooo light...paired with a 5' ultralight loomis imx and then use it on an 8'2 tailwalk taigame and a steez ags 7'6 m-ml for bass....the size and weight make it very versatile.
So was I....and I didn't like the way it came out.........I couldn't figure out what direction I wanted to go... I love both reels...but I'm pissed I burned out 2 stellas after returning two a two years ago.....And I'm a bit peeved they came out with a new one so soon...burned out the gear, main shaft bearing and worm pawl.....in 2 years of moderate use.....had an original magnesium stradic that was like new for 10 years. Sooooo....yeah.....lol
Man, I was wondering when the next fanboy video was coming... Lol. My BG is still going strong even after getting dumped in the beach break for awhile when I wasn't paying attention. But, I am about to spend a morgage payment on an Avet TRX 80W.
#shimanofanboy fo life!!!!!!!!!!! Those T rex's are sweeeet.....The boats I run with use Tiagras 50lrsa's and Dawiwa MP3000s .....another Penn's.....But my other buddy runs 30 and 50 tiagras and T rex's for the big gurls.......that's a helluva reel!!! He's debating on going all avet.
Tackle Advisors I really hesitated with jumping on the Avet bandwagon but there's just no denying their quality and customer service. This one is going to be my land based shark reel. 110lbs of drag.... I'm gonna need to strap myself to the truck. Lol. I eventually will pick up like a Avet 40w raptor series for some offshore work. I just don't do enough of that. I compared the Tiagras and what it came down to was American made and customer service. Avet is really good about taking care of their products with turnaround often being less than a week!
I sound just like you when I’m explaining to my wife why I buy the gear I have and she tells me I caught just as much fish when I used Walmart fishing gear 😂
My wife is the same but i tell her the cheap $35 combo only last one season hence why its just better to spend more on gear that will last you longer. Then when I took her fishing and let her use the gear. It made sense to her in a way but still thinks im over spending. So i come back telling her, then whats the difference between a cheap handbag vs an expensive one. Both carry your stuff so whats the deal? And then theres that moment of silence
Hello Tackle Advisors, can you respond as fast as possible to this comment? I need help to choose between daiwa certate 3000 and shimano exsence 4000mxg, which one is better? more durable and stronger?
I like the excense but never used a 4k.(only the 3k)It's one of the nicest reels made. In terms of the certate. Great reel but heard rumblings of Something wicked for 2019
The name stems from back in 08 when i started buildng a forum to beat up on the Industry mouthpieces on tackle tour......but It became cost prohibitive......
you can do the same thing with a shimano sienna, blows my mind people buying these reels for freshwater or even light saltwater fishing, but i guess some people just like to show off...lol
It is pretty cool rockin a stella on the river bank that's fo show lololol Thats what my friend used to outfish me 35 to 15 yesterday......and a st croix bass x...I was rocking a steez and steez ags rod.....gear don't matter.....Although he did go through about 20$ in kietechs to my 2$ in fakos :)
haaaaa...whats up man!!! Bantam im working on...need a little more time.....(but i gotta say.....antares who???? lol Bantam is a sweeeeeet reel) Concept Z I have all the info and time on it I need just gotta tear it down and do the needful. Abu STX, Speed demon those are in the oven...plus some others
So for a bass fishing guy what real would you recommend? Nobody better then asking a guy that has been in so many reels. NRX rod I was looking at a excist tell you said it wasn't needed I do want a nice reel. If you could help me out I would be grateful.
Same.....haven't owned a fw daiwa in awhile.....used a bunch....but not since the TDZia and TD x and S way back when.....pleasantly surprised at how nice they are....My ballistic is a bit geary.....feel 3 ticks per handle turn.....only under load.....but the tatula is a gem....(friend experiencing the same on his second out of 3 ballistics which is weird) But I dig em!!!
the daiwas dont have a worm shaft like the shimano and they are just as smooth.. so why do you need this worm oscillation ? isnt this just making things more complicated for no special reason?
sorry when you compair the companent and said "they made from same material" ... the question have u been with japanese when they created them ? how u know it's the same material ?
Is one made from forged aluminium and the other not made from forged aluminum with a coating or chemical hardened treatment? It's not bronze or brass...it's not stainless....It's aluminum....you can see clearly by the metal showing through the coating.
fishing.shimano.co.jp/product/reel/5278 vs fishing.shimano.co.jp/product/reel/4657 both are exsence, one with CI4+ on the name and the other doesnt, does anyone know which one is newer? and differences?
I saw a japan exsense ci4+ for about the same price as you would get a sustain reel from the U.S. Is there any difference from the U.S. exsense and the Japan one? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Hi, I will be more than happy if you can do a review for saltwater fishing reels like Shimano Ultegra Ci4 XSA 14000 VS Yuki Amg 12000 VS SHIMANO 2017 FLIEGEN 35. thanks, I Have watched all your videos and I think you so much because I was about to buy star 7000 and when watched your video I was really happy, however, I switched to Daiwa bg.
Hey man! ooooof....you hit a sore spot with me.....The new ultegra was a huge let down.....no seals at the main shaft......which is a shame....The fliegen I tried to get info on.....but to no avail....That is the long cast reel i'm most curious about. It looks like more than a carp reel. And it's priced right. If i get any info on it I'll be sure to post on SOL about it and ping you
Hmmm, Thanks for that. I have never heard of Yuki before. I am not looking to run out and buy anything ATM; but it gave me some "down-time" research to do on what they offer. ;-) Is it a Spanish company using Japanese names? The online catalog isn't very clear about that (granted, I have only quickly skimmed over it thus far). Regards.
I dont understand your constant issue with Aluminum vs any fancy plastic composite mixture,, for the most part i like your part comp;arisons but you do have a few subjective points that you have repeatably gone on about to extreme,,not everyone prefers plastic no matter how much of this or that is baked into it,,,lol,, I dont see alot said about ultralight reel design in general where water causes alot issues for wase fishermen and stream fishing .but this type of fishing exposes reels to alot of water as well as dirt and all kinds of reel destroying grime,,saltwater isnt the only type of fishing in need of better quality seals etc etc yet most ultralight reels completely miss the mark in this respect. Most hardcore smallmouth fishermen that wadefish know this all tol well.
Awesome to hear about the exist... And definitely sucks about your Stella but it's something I've heard quite a bit
You just came out of the closet Congrats
It's not just the rotor material, asymmetric rotor design shaves off additional weight as well, which Stella FI doesn't have incorporated.
Loved the video, just got myself a 2500 stella and I'm loving it. They are heavy but they feel solid as a rock. Was interesting to see the innards!
How does the vanquish compare to the stella and exsence?
I wonder what you would think of the BB JDM option for the Exsence. Much lower price
I held the Exsence recently and holy shit it's AMAZING!!!
Can you do a full maintenance video on the stella
I'm good with my daiwa back bay, thanks to you. I watched that video about 15 times.
Can you do shimano stella 14k vs twinpower 14k
I absolutely love my 17' Exsence C3000MHG. So much I purchased a second. Like them better than my Stella's. It's only 7 oz., has a Strong/responsive drag, the blacked out look is cool and balances great with all my Bass rods. I use it for all my soft plastic applications to inshore. Bulletproof! Just put some 10-15LB braid on it and you're ready to go.
I haven't bought a Stella only because they don't have a Baitrunner model. I am using the Thunnus Ci4 12000 until they do.
Does the Exsence have the same problem as the Stella FJ, the bail wire won't clear the spool when the spool is at the top of its oscillation stroke?
ua-cam.com/video/Hii-TZE8WNY/v-deo.html
Have you try putting that mgl rotor on the Stella?
Which is better bargain? Exsence or Exsence Ci4+?
Question which shimano stella model is the best ever made for big game fishing . Which year model ?
I have 3 FIs. I got all on sale and one for $350 which was a floor model. They are very reliable and great to fish.
Tackle Advisors Thanks a ton! I will hold out. I want something more versatile than the curado 70 but I don’t have aldebaran money...
You're welcome ....I hear ya....as soon as i can leak anything I'l do just that lol
Tackle Advisors omg what reel
Hey man! Where do i get parts to upgrade reels. Also what parts should i upgrade first? Also what is the best oil and greases to use on them?
Have you not seen his other videos?
No prob man....I get bogged down so I may miss some....acutally..the past month i received 1700 emails and 1000 comments/ questions via youtube instagram facebook and forum pm's....I can't even answer many....actually burned myself out a bit lol....
But yeah man....the fancy stuff is just that.......fancy........stuff....the only fancy baitcaster that i feel is worth it is the steez because it can do everything and do it well and it's a tank.....For spinners....anything over a twinpower or certate is just not needed.......and even still that's pushin it....same with your tat.....anything over that is not gaining you much
How did you get the bottom plate off?
Thanks for the comparison on these two. Im a steelheader, these are the holy grail of reels in my opinion. I do believe reels made in Japan are better made than Indonesia or China or where ever.
Would you buy a Lexus made in China?
I spent much of my steelheading using braided mono and slinkies chuck and duckin....but I spent 500 hours chasing yardstick browns using these.....and yeah............nothin better.....Curious how the ultra lightweight exist cmpares....A subscriber from Austrailia just shipped me his to play with so I'll be able to get some quality time on it.
Can you do a review on the new exist vs the shimano stella??
Trust me my friend... I'm trying :)
HEY do u know the differences between the Exsence vs the Exsence CI4+? looks like the ci4+ is cheaper than the regular Exsence? did they changed the material and lower the price?
Great video. Could you please tell me the difference between all the Exsense models? Can’t find out the difference between their models
Do you plan on reviewing the new daiwa exsict i would love to hear your thoughts about it
I want to . We'll see once i finish the next round of reviews.
Hi! Tell me please, what kind of grease do you use for the micromodule so that it does not buzz? Thanks! PS Nice compare, like! :)
Thanks Ed... You talking spinning or casting? And are you talking about the high pitch whirring sound of the spinner or the gritty feel of a dead micro module baitcaster gear set?
@@TackleAdvisors I talk about spinning reels, who have a first generation micromodule. Twinpower 15 for example
If it's anything like my stella fi the buzz isn't a grease issue.....my gears went on it. That and if you have been inside it..you must make sure the top ar clutch cap is perfectly centered...otherwise youll feel buzzing. Could also be the pawl for the oscillation or bearing.
@@TackleAdvisors try IOS Gear Grease on micro module and you hear it =)
Could you see if you could do a maintenance video on the diawa bg 8000?
Wow. Everything i’ve ever said. Every single reel i own is japan import. Not for the quality, but for the lower gear ratio that is not available in US. Lower drag being better than high drag. The sarcasm towards bass anglers. Everything.
LOLOL.....get outta my brain!!!
What's the difference between the Exsence made in Japan vs Malaysia?
Another great vid! Have you done a Saltiga vs Stella SW comparison? And a Van Staal vs Penn Torque vs Zeebass? If not, please do one dude
Tackle Advisors c’mon, do it, do it, do it!! Please!!
Can you do a review on the shimano exsence ci4 3000m? Great video btw.
is the exsence worth it for a kid like me to buy it and have it for a long time
i notice there is a Shimano Exsence and a Shimano Exsence ci4+, why is the Shimano Exsence more expensive?
The Ci4 is made in Malasia. Non ci4 is made in Japan. Ci4 Exsence is similar to Stradic ci4. Non Ci4 similar to Stella. I believe both have same spool and interchangable. Non ci4 is slightly better finish and blacker color and has black line roller.
Magnesium body on the Exsence
Just came across your channel this weekend and I’ve already watched way too many! They are completely awesome! I was wondering if you have and future plans to take a look at the Penn Conflict II? I got the Conflict I a while back and really like it but I think I want to replace it with a conflict II and I’d be curious on your thoughts! If not, no worries! Thanks again for the great info!! 👍🏼
What is it you don’t like about the 2015 Exist. I was looking at getting one because I like my Daiwa Presso so much.
Can you do a review on Van Staal VR50?
are there any available???? I've been hearing of massive shortages for quite awhile. But I bet it's a great reel as the VR is awesome!
Tackle Advisors they have been going out in small batches to dealers. Also have you done a review for Penn Squall 15 star drag reel?
Rocket oil from boca hot sauce you name it. lol
Love my Exsence with the Steez Unicorn combination
I've been fishin it with the Exsence and tatula 2000.....duuuuuude......that's a niccccccccccccccce setup.
Vanquish vs. Twin Power? Pls make a review!
Hey Primate --
Daiwa doesn't sell their Magseal oil, making it hard for reel repair shops to service your reels.
Can you do a video about the saltiga
The first ever vid I put out was of the saltiga... Just a slide show but I'll put together a review at some point
Tackle Advisors oh well my bad and I'll look forward to it
How do you feel about the sephia ci4+, I been thinking about getting one just mainly for the fact of how sexy the eva double handle is.
I wish I knew how far it permiates the line up......But shimano is putting cold forged alu in so man reels now....
Hi there is the Shimano Exsence Bb 14 C3000HGM comparable with the model on this video? Thanks a lot great content
This one? www.ebay.com/p/1534469568 not even remotely close
What’s the best 1000 sized reel in your opinion. Looking for light too to balance on a GLX 820s DSR. Thanks in advance
Might be cheaper to keep the Ballistic and get the NRX 822 DSR that I prefer anyway ;)
wht was the name of ur rod there ?
tailwalk hi tide tz 9'
The new Stella FJ has been marketed as having a "long cast spool". It looks no different than the FI spool.
And if you take a big bass out of weeds, with 5 lb of grass in addition to bass weight, a metal rotor as in Stella, which doesn’t flexes,
and haul them into the boat, it doesn’t give you a longer bail(usually first item to fail) life?
Module
It is the ratio of the reference diameter of the gear divided by the number of teeth.
Tackle Advisors Wish I could have gotten one of the LT Tatulas btw. They aren't on the German market tho sadly.
Tackle Advisors alrighty so I got that right, thanks mate!
Yeah I’ve been waiting for this forever
So was I....and I didn't like the way it came out.........I couldn't figure out what direction I wanted to go... I love both reels...but I'm pissed I burned out 2 stellas after returning two a two years ago.....And I'm a bit peeved they came out with a new one so soon...burned out the gear, main shaft bearing and worm pawl.....in 2 years of moderate use.....had an original magnesium stradic that was like new for 10 years. Sooooo....yeah.....lol
Tackle Advisors well when that happens my favorite egg beater is the twin power
Excense 2019 vs certate 2019 which one opinion master??please give me answer to make a best choice to buy
I gotta go with exsence. It is a tic above and has more options.
Great reel but heard rumblings of Something wicked for 2019
@@TackleAdvisors thank you!
Which is more durable from the 2 reels? I mean the gear
@Tackle Advisors hello, can you please tell me if the Excense can rival the old 15' exist or the 14' stella?(FI)
Great video! I like your logic and presentation style! I subbed :)
Having Stella FI, FG and Exsence I will tell you buy fishing experience:
1. Stella FG
2. Exsence
3. Stella FI
And put the Exist LT on top of the others. Gear noise is Much less than the Exsence and smoother sound. Less measured start up required on Exist.
TLDR, get the cheapest Stradic you can get.
8:47 what was that sound
Mic cable swinging against table
@@TackleAdvisors Ok. Great vids keep up the good work
Hahaha these videos are great. Keep up the good work
You should change your name to tackle advisor
The name stems from back in 08 when i started buildng a forum to beat up on the Industry mouthpieces on tackle tour......but It became cost prohibitive......
you can do the same thing with a shimano sienna, blows my mind people buying these reels for freshwater or even light saltwater fishing, but i guess some people just like to show off...lol
It is pretty cool rockin a stella on the river bank that's fo show lololol
Thats what my friend used to outfish me 35 to 15 yesterday......and a st croix bass x...I was rocking a steez and steez ags rod.....gear don't matter.....Although he did go through about 20$ in kietechs to my 2$ in fakos :)
I use a Stella on my ugly Stik to catch bullhead...makes em bite harder
I use mine for inshore saltwater and it’s held up perfectly
So I was under the impression that these are OK for salt?????
Tackle advisors has a hard on for Stella.😂
does nick still reply back ?
I try too...
Does Flatzout reply back?
Yes Sir !!
Do you have anymore baitcaster reviews in the oven ? bantam mgl , cough , cough... ; )
haaaaa...whats up man!!! Bantam im working on...need a little more time.....(but i gotta say.....antares who???? lol Bantam is a sweeeeeet reel) Concept Z I have all the info and time on it I need just gotta tear it down and do the needful. Abu STX, Speed demon those are in the oven...plus some others
sweeeeet !!! throw that orange turd in garbage , lol...looking forward to the new vids ! tight lines brudda.
Stop bashing SHIMANO. The Reel Test doesn't appreciate it.
I'm a Shimano fan boy but what they are doing is baffling. Some consistency would be nice.
does he even fish or just cast on grass? He should spool his reels with weedwhacker cord.....it'd make more sense
Tackle Advisors 😂
So for a bass fishing guy what real would you recommend? Nobody better then asking a guy that has been in so many reels. NRX rod I was looking at a excist tell you said it wasn't needed I do want a nice reel. If you could help me out I would be grateful.
Switched to Diawa for 2018😉 l love the new Lt line up.
@@TackleAdvisors Had the same ticks under load on my first ballistic lt, sent it back to vendor and got a new one, that is butter smoot, so far
So you’re telling me that a $700+ reel has the same amount of water resistant as my $106 nasci? That’s... depressing...
It is a much better reel in every way mate
the daiwas dont have a worm shaft like the shimano and they are just as smooth.. so why do you need this worm oscillation ? isnt this just making things more complicated for no special reason?
sorry when you compair the companent and said "they made from same material" ...
the question have u been with japanese when they created them ? how u know it's the same material ?
Is one made from forged aluminium and the other not made from forged aluminum with a coating or chemical hardened treatment? It's not bronze or brass...it's not stainless....It's aluminum....you can see clearly by the metal showing through the coating.
Just great stuff. Thnks for sharing
fishing.shimano.co.jp/product/reel/5278 vs fishing.shimano.co.jp/product/reel/4657 both are exsence, one with CI4+ on the name and the other doesnt, does anyone know which one is newer? and differences?
The exsence is really just a stradic ci4+ Which makes it a very good reel...But it's not the standard Exsence which is the more premium reel.
My Stella SWC 30000 has 4.4:1 ratio :)
Regards.
Hi, I believe It a Korean model that competes against Shimano
I'd buy an Exsence if they were ever in stock.
I dont understand your constant issue with Aluminum vs any fancy plastic composite mixture,, for the most part i like your part comp;arisons but you do have a few subjective points that you have repeatably gone on about to extreme,,not everyone prefers plastic no matter how much of this or that is baked into it,,,lol,,
I dont see alot said about ultralight reel design in general where water causes alot issues for wase fishermen and stream fishing .but this type of fishing exposes reels to alot of water as well as dirt and all kinds of reel destroying grime,,saltwater isnt the only type of fishing in need of better quality seals etc etc yet most ultralight reels completely miss the mark in this respect. Most hardcore smallmouth fishermen that wadefish know this all tol well.
