Thanks for the review. The review is decent but not balanced. Especially in relation to the features of LG since it seems that enough time was not taken to actually use the LG V40 and learn it's features with the actual LG skin. I will touch on things you mentioned as your deciding factors (although I don't believe the regular consumer focuses on those things primarily) Camera: Pixel is known for its awesome camera however I wasn't impressed with the stills other than the night shot more still. Most importantly the audio recording of the pixel is poorer than most high end flag ship and poor to the extent that it is not usuable for high quality blogging or videos. The LG however has the best audio recording capabilities of any smartphone. Thus for the regular consumer it is easier to use the LG V40 over the Pixel 3XL. Also in tests I've found the day light selfies of the pixel to be unnatural, especially with light complexions. Night selfies are pretty good though. Software: The pixel software was riddled with bugs at it's launch. Also stock Android lacks essential features that a skinned Android phone has. Stock is perfect for those who prefer a simple phone like the iPhone. However it is boring and at times inconvenient since you have to search for an app that is suitable.
@@doobedi people have a habit of trying to say phones have a better screen than the Note 9. This has been said about the iPhone Max, XZ3, Pixel and LG V40. The only thing that I want to point out that is wrong as a 9.0 pie user (on a different phone) and a previous pixel 3xl user ( I returned it) you can turn off gestures: Go under settings, go to system, go to the gesture button, you'll see a setting called "Swipe up on Home Button" click on it and turn it off and your on screen buttons are back.
i have only one question why do all pixel phones underclock the procesor ? for more smooth ,batery life or more long lasting becouse none of this has worked for them
Bigger and better features on the pixel ? i just do not see it , google call screening to me seems like a huge gimmick , if you have time to waste to sit there listening to an incoming caller , and then sending machine voice responses during the call , you might as well just answer the call and not stuff around , or leave it on voice call that is on every phone service and has spam settings already and continue using your time for other things . . How is a single lens camera that does not cut the mustard in zoom better ? How is not having a dedicated headphone jack better , not too mention a very good DAC ? How is not having a vast array of camera and video options on the LG not better ? Vanilla android , 4 gb of ram 👎 . Then the thing that stops either being even considered for many would be the battery size , these are both being sold as camera centric devices which if used for such activities can suck through battery very quickly . LG does not usually put bigger batteries in phones , but why google put a smaller battery in the 3 xl this year ????
I was really excited for this head to head review, because one of these two phones will be my next one (currently have the LG V20). Night Shot aka manual camera controls with a longer exposure time(LG). Night shot tells you to hold still and if you don't then you end up with a blurry image. Your welcome!
Another guy repeating the same shit of the paid articles glorifying Pixel - a crappy phone being always overrated. But it's LG fault not doing the proper marketing, at least for the fact they're the best camera and audio phones for years, but being always underrated.
The lack of a headphone jack to on the Pixel was a deal breaker for me because I need to use external mikes. Battery power is not so much an issue as I power the phone from the power supply on the gimbal if I have a long shoot. The more I use the LG 40 the more I like it.
There's only one reason I don't buy LG phones if they did updates to the Google operating system for three years after you bought their phones and see everybody buying LG
is it only me or does this guy deserve a medal. I've been watching videos on UA-cam about phones but most of the popular phone channels ignore LG and their phone. LG is awesome to me i mean it's not overrated like Apple, Samsung or Huawei. it's affordable and awesome. Love LG
Out of the box, this review reflects pretty much what I believe regarding both these smartphones, apart from some minor details: - in speakers, the V40 has Boombox that is far superior in some ways, to the P3 & any other brand's flagship; - in video, I heard in another review that the V40 had sometimes lower noise but not sure & the other guy might be wrong...; - I know it's generally not tackled in those types of review, & understand why, yet I still point out that in manual, the V40 destroys the Pixel due to better hardware, more options & flexibility, leading to better low light pictures (well Night Sight makes the fight tough here & I find it great. Night Sight is sometimes superior, espcly in low light + high dynamic range subjects... the killer feature with NS is the ability to do it without tripod thx to IA! Awesome), RAWs, & ultimately, video (the only line to integrate manuals in videos?). - audio input is not only better, but allows to plug headphones to monitor + visualize your capture, or an external mic easily through 3,5 jack, with 24bits 192khz support, which is never gonna happen on Pixel & any non 3,5 jack friendly models... For sure it's a very niche feature, more destined to audio-visual creators. Ok, that was "out of the box". Now, add Root to the story (which, again, I know everyone is not into), & you get access to all the margin of improvements the V40 has: better batterylife (well the Pixel could also benefit from that the same way), some more options, but most importantly to me, GCAM port. From there, you have the best of both worlds in 1 device: better hardware, + all the soft magic of Google (minus the gap of slight incompatibility, leading to glitches or misperformance...). Actually this already works on previous models (LG V30 by excellence), & this son of a gun is probably superior to the Pixel 2 & Pixel 3 sometimes! Well, I have none of those devices in hand, so this is just assumptions speculations & reported experiences from other users/reviewers, still I wanted to share it in case some would fimd any interest in any of that. 😁
LG cameras are so far behind everything these days, buggy software, batteries that grenade after a year or 2. Fans are holding on to hopes and dreams with these phones
The V40 is an all-round better phone than the pixel. More photography options plus better video audio recording, actual pro-grade manual controls. A higher clocked CPU, more RAM, expandable storage. A better display, a headphone jack and way better in ear audio quality experience at a cheaper price tag. Sounds like no competition to me.
The only downside from v40 was a lack of os support even to flash it still find it difficult on XDA forum. If everything complete, could be a huge competitor vs Samsung and demolish pixel as easy as possible due to nova launcher that can be implemented on any Android device 😂
LG V40 hands down. Better build quality, better audio, better screen brightness, more RAM, 3.5mm headphone jack, expandable storage. Yea, the Pixel 3 has faster updates but that just means you're a bug-tester for Android.
Good phone comparison, but your photo-taking skills need work. Your two photos vary a TON and it's not good for comparing the cameras. Plus it looks like you set the colors differently on the LG V40. You should set them so the colors are closer so it's a better comparison. Other videos with better photo composition and proper color settings make the two cameras seem a lot more similar.
Reviewers love phones that give you the fewest features and lack of manual camera controls. The VSeriers phones are for photographers I guess, not appreciated as no one reviews them in manual pro modes. It’s always snap in auto and proclaim a winner. Missing chapters from your story.
I got the g7 and m gonna switch my phone for the g8 when it comes out. I'm not worried about any other phone. Maybe the s10 but that's it. LG is so underrated it's crazy. The display is better the audio is way better and camera is just great and just a good or better

Plus will be starting to take videos of my horses, so would like to chose best phone for that. Plus, I talk to my husband via speakerphone, how does sound come thru on these phones? Clear? I know I'm long winded here, sorry, but if ones out there who have either of these phones, give me your pros and cons about your phone. Thanks!!
I just returned my galaxys10 simply because the front camera sucks, it still got the blurry effect I hate so much. It also don't work for night time mode. So, I got an LG v40 and it fuckn rocks!!
Did you guys forget to tap the screen so the V40 knew what it was photographing?!
LG make great hardware but everytime their software let's their phones down.
and I bought a V30 for 400 when V40 came out. was a great deal
Whats the wallpaper of pixel
I dont care i love my v40 watching this in lg v40
Can you review the Mi 8 lite ?
Lg v40 actually has stereo boombox speakers
No it's mono, it just so loud the whole phone sounds like a speaker. Running at 80% volume you get usable volume from 100hz-8000hz
@@bobbecker2046 there is more than one website that shows that it has stero boombox speakers so I do understand that the phone resonates the sound through out the phone but it is stereo.
That's a negative ghost rider, i checked using a file that alternates from left to right and it only fires from the bottom speaker.
V40 does have the caller notification tho?
There are 60+ free apps that can do so
I bought a refurbished LG v40 3 months ago. . mainly because of the sound DAC which is really impressive. The cameras tho it has lots of controls to play with is no match for the pixel 6 I'm using.
Is refurbished V40 good? What about the battery and camera?
@@ifacedownworship very bad battery would not last 5 hrs. Mediocre canera. Audio is nice
@@centurytuna100 Oh that's bad
the problem withthe 3xl no sd card slot. they want you to use their cloud ( free at first) then pay for it or lose gmail access.
Each phones have its own features. Funny that you said lg has to play catch up when the pixel lack some features that lg has also. As far as camera.... Nowadays these camera and speed test are pointless when it is only a very micro difference that the average consumers will not know the difference. All I want from these expensive flagship is the best battery life possible
Yeah same
just get the note 9 or mate 20 pro then
You got that SOUL GLO!!!
I bought a v40 last week. It just froze on me and refused to go on no matter what I did until I charged it when it had 50%. I hope this doesnt happen again or its going back . ibe been overall happy but this is something I dont need to worry about happening again like my old phome
Night Shot aka manual camera controls with a longer exposure time(LG). Night shot tells you to hold still and if you don't then you end up with a blurry image. Your welcome!
Another guy repeating the same shit of the paid articles glorifying Pixel - a crappy phone being always overrated. But it's LG fault not doing the proper marketing, at least for the fact they're the best camera and audio phones for years, but being always underrated.
and V40 has awesome audio as well as expandable memory. pixels are crap.
The lack of a headphone jack to on the Pixel was a deal breaker for me because I need to use external mikes. Battery power is not so much an issue as I power the phone from the power supply on the gimbal if I have a long shoot. The more I use the LG 40 the more I like it.
These are both favorable equally but that Night Sight mode and call screening gives the Pixel the slight edge.
i have the v50 but thinking of getting the pixel 3 xl also just to play with custom ROMs
Damn he almost dropped that LG V40THINQ before the video even started 😂
V40 has Manuel mode for photos too which takes much better pictures in the right hands... Big miss here since you didn't mention that
$400 unlocked at Costco for the LG v40. I had the V30 and hated the off angle blue hue to it.
Hold up, the V40 has less nits than the G6?! Why the hell did I upgrade, the G6 is barely visible in sunlight.
There's only one reason I don't buy LG phones if they did updates to the Google operating system for three years after you bought their phones and see everybody buying LG
I got update several months ago for my V20, I was surprised because this phone is from October 2016...
LG v40 all the way. These new Pixels are hideous. And android Pie, with its stock gesture navigation is borderline unusable.
You're as biased as that black guy.
5:11 thumbs up for V-Moda
is it only me or does this guy deserve a medal. I've been watching videos on UA-cam about phones but most of the popular phone channels ignore LG and their phone. LG is awesome to me i mean it's not overrated like Apple, Samsung or Huawei. it's affordable and awesome.
Love LG
Out of the box, this review reflects pretty much what I believe regarding both these smartphones, apart from some minor details:
- in speakers, the V40 has Boombox that is far superior in some ways, to the P3 & any other brand's flagship;
- in video, I heard in another review that the V40 had sometimes lower noise but not sure & the other guy might be wrong...;
- I know it's generally not tackled in those types of review, & understand why, yet I still point out that in manual, the V40 destroys the Pixel due to better hardware, more options & flexibility, leading to better low light pictures (well Night Sight makes the fight tough here & I find it great.
You havent mentioned a word about HDR video recording feat. Rec2020
Great review
I bought the v40 and i love it. Its the best smart phone ive ever owned thus far
LG still has that Knock on cause its Usefull and its one way to turn on a phone if you don't use power button
The v40 is a bit lacking in image quality than Pixel 3, but I think it is the most advantageous to be able to take pictures from three angles of view.
LG cameras are so far behind everything these days, buggy software, batteries that grenade after a year or 2. Fans are holding on to hopes and dreams with these phones
The LG all the way. Total manual control with the photo, video, and audio during recording? Absolutely.
Watching on my v40 hands down I've had my time with the Pixel phones v40 specs and manual mode stomps out the Pixel phones
Other videos with better photo composition and proper color settings make the two cameras seem a lot more similar.
watch majority of the video THANKS BROTHER
The V40 destroys the competition
For the last time duel front facing speakers.
Dual? Or you want them fighting each other?
Sorry... I jumped to 5:16 to fulfill my curiosity.. 😁
I have the LG V40 and i would never go back to anything different. The V40 is hands down better the only down side is the battery
Seems like a biased review, I like LG V40 thinq over Google pixel 3xl...overall
Copping v40 tomorrow 😊
Reviewers love phones that give you the fewest features and lack of manual camera controls. The VSeriers phones are for photographers I guess, not appreciated as no one reviews them in manual pro modes. It’s always snap in auto and proclaim a winner. Missing chapters from your story.
I got the g7 and m gonna switch my phone for the g8 when it comes out. I'm not worried about any other phone. Maybe the s10 but that's it. LG is so underrated it's crazy. The display is better the audio is way better and camera is just great and just a good or better
Pixel 3 XL overpriced and overrated. The V40 is a much better deal. No headphone jack and no storage expansion are major dealbrakers in the Pixel.
I was actually gonna get the pixal 3, until i learned about no head phone jack. Please. That alone changed my mind. Meh.
Oh my goodness what a biased conclusion.
This review was not made to genuinely assess the phone, but came with a conclusion that was ready made, with little basis and no objectivity.
Rubbish.
