    I realized for the first time in this video how fast the forage Harvester move through the field, visible when you film it from the side when filling the truck, the older John Deere tractors is very special, another great video

      Thank you for watching. It takes allot of waiting to get that side shot because you can only see the chopper on the last pass. The rest of the time as you noted the truck covers it up.

    The 8630 sounds like a beast. I'm sure in its heyday it was a blast to drive. A lot has changed in tractor technology since the '70s, of course, but that doesn't diminish what machines of that era could (and still can) do.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  6 років тому +2

      They were the biggest tractor Deere offered in 1975. All mechanical and all steel back then. Computers and digital displays started going into the tractors in the 80s. These iron horses will last a long time.

      Glad you liked the video. This file was a few days worth of chopping and still had a day to go to top it off. The empty pit was an example of how big the pile gets from the ground. Hopefully some day I can film a bunker when they bring the first truck load in.

    You grind the corn before it's fully mature? Is it "corn grass" or are the cobs already developed and with grain? In Farming Simulator I think almost everybody waits until the plant is fully mature and dry to chop, like when it's ready for a grain harvest, which from this video is clearly wrong, after all silage is green and still moist instead of beige and dry like straw.

    Hi that John Deere 4650 looks like a mechanical 4wd drive not the hydraulic 4wd assist correct me if i am wrong in the UK we would not class it as assist

    • @davidrowley8251
      @davidrowley8251 6 років тому +1

      In the video on the pile, you can see the front drive shaft, and the front differential. It definitely is mechanical front wheel drive. 8:34 The announcer said front wheel assist, he did not say hydraulic.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  6 років тому

      You are correct.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  6 років тому

      The hydraulic front assist option was only available in the 60’s and 70’s. You would see the hydraulic front wheel drive on models like the 4620, 4630 and 4640. The 50 series were all mechanical front wheel drive. It was a big new feature for the 50 series.

    Why not use a dozer

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  6 років тому +2

      You could use a bull dozer. I have seen it done that way but a wheeled tractor moves much faster and is easier to maneuver and turn around in a pile than a bull dozer.
